"WAAAAHHH." Brittany stirs to the noise, Camilla is crying again. She sits up and sees Santana about to go get her, she looks so tired and it makes Brittany sad. This is the fourth time she's woken up and it's five am. Santana got barley any sleep after falling asleep during Cars. She couldn't bear seeing her get up again. They had one hour until school and Brittany wanted her to get at least a bit of restful sleep.
"Santana, go back to sleep, I got her, okay?" Brittany sees Santana sleepily nod before laying back down on the couch.
She walks into the room and picks up Camilla, she can't really tell what's wrong. It seems like she's just being fussy. Brittany checks her diaper and it's clean, Santana fed her the last time she woke up 30 minutes ago so she can't be hungry.
She rocks her and shushes her but nothing seems to be working. She starts singing as a last resort, maybe her voice isn't as good as Santana's but it might work. She quickly thinks of nursery rhymes. She never got sung them as a child, but she does remember part of one she used to sing to Ashley when she was a toddler and had nightmares.
Hush, little baby don't say a word
Mama's gonna buy you a mocking bird
And if that mocking bird don't sing
Mama's gonna buy you a diamond ring
She repeats the same lyrics as she slightly bounces Camilla as she walks around the tiny room. As she gets her to sleep she walks around Santana's room. She never really got to spend an extensive period of time in it. The walls were black, and she had a tiny lamp dimly illuminating the room. There was one window which out looked the backyard. She sees a picture on the nightstand, it looks like Camilla's ultrasound picture. She looks really cute….for a tiny, splotchy blob that didn't really look like a human.
She was about to look around a bit more but her stomach started to rumble really loudly. Like, loud enough that Camilla started to fuss. She pulls out her phone and looks at the time, It's 5:40, maybe she could start making breakfast.
She walks out of Santana's bedroom, Camilla still asleep on her shoulder, and sees Santana's parents standing outside their door a couple feet away. Brittany gulps, Santana doesn't really talk about her parents, she just knows they're always working late shifts and they rest and watch Camilla during the day. She kinda needs to walk past them to get to the kitchen so she might as well introduce herself.
"Hi, you must be Mr. and Mrs. Lopez, I'm Brittany!" She offers her hand for them to shake, they both take it with a small smile on their lips.
"Nice to finally be able to speak with the famous Brittany." Mr. Lopez chuckles softly. Brittany looks at them with confusion, how do they know who she is? Has Santana been talking to them about her?
"We've seen you around here a couple of times, and Santana hasn't had anyone over but you, she must really trust you." Mrs. Lopez says.
"Yeah, Santana is really, really sweet."
"Why are you up? It's a bit early to be isn't it?" Mr. Lopez asked
"Well, Santana has been caring for Camilla all night, she hasn't gotten more than an hour of uninterrupted sleep. I let her rest a bit and I got Camilla to fall asleep. So now, it's really too late for me to go back to bed so I decided to make breakfast!" She grins.
Santana's parents give her an approving nod before she goes into the kitchen.
After rummaging through that cabinets, Brittany ends up making French toast (really just pan fried bread with sugar and cinnamon on top), with canned cherries on top. She was proud of herself doing all this while Camilla sleeps soundly on her shoulder. She should definitely put her down soon.
While she was cooking, she talked with Santana's parents a bit. Honestly, in the cheesy, romance hallmark movies she's seen, meeting the parents was a big and scary deal. But to her, it was pretty easy.
As she was about to leave the kitchen to put Camilla down and wake Santana and Ashley up, her parents ask her something that makes her stop.
"Brittany, is your eye okay?"
The question startles her for a second. Her eye is pretty much almost healed, it's now just a light ugly yellow color with a couple of purple splotches. No one's asked her about it in a while, besides Santana of course.
"Ye-yeah, It's fine!" She says, almost dashing out of the room after responding.
Brittany gently places Camilla in her crib, she just stares at her for a few moments. She pretty much is just a carbon copy of Santana. She thinks that she might be one of the cutest babies ever. (Maybe she's a little biased but…)
She walks out to the living room and softly shakes Santana awake. Santana groans audibly.
"Sannnn, I know your tired but you gotta get up." Santana sits up on the couch and yawns.
"Is it time? I swear it felt like I just fell asleep an hour ago." Santana says softly, with a smirk placed on her face. She gropes around the side table for her glasses without looking. Eventually, she grabs them and puts them on her face.
"Because you DID just fall asleep an hour ago." Brittany giggles. "Santana, I made breakfast, so YOU need to go get ready so you can eat with me and Ash. Also your parents are in there too."
"My parents are awake?"
"They might have woken up from Camilla crying earlier, but yeah, I got to talk to them for a bit."
"Thanks for that Britt, she's been a bit fussy these past couple of days at night. Some of her top teeth are coming in and she's in some pain."
"It's no problem Santana…I'd do anything for you." The room goes silent when she says that. Brittany looks into Santana's mocha eyes. Usually she can read Santana's expressions clearly, but right now she can't.
"I'm sorry I- " Santana's lips crash into hers passionately. They kiss and kiss roughly and sloppily until they separate for air.
"Don't ever apologize for being so sweet." Brittany feels like Santana's eyes are piercing into her soul as the Latina gets up and goes to get ready, leaving Brittany panting and speechless.
Today's been good.
Yeah she's getting looks and leers and whispers.
Yeah it's making her slightly uncomfortable.
But the glee kids have been making it bearable, they've been walking her around each of the classes she's had this morning. Giving mean stares to anyone who even tries to look at her the wrong way. It's made the day bearable.
Today's the rare day in each month where her schedule is all wonky, so she has glee at the end of the day. She was on her way to the classroom when she walks by the halls and sees Brittany fighting someone.
Brittany fighting Quinn.
Santana doesn't think she's ever seen Brittany that mad, or that violent either.
Brittany just shoved Quinn into a locker and slapped her across the face.
She zooms over there and manages to pull Brittany off Quinn as she drags her to the glee room, which is empty.
"Brittany, what the fuck are you doing? Why were you fighting her?" Santana says softly.
"She hurt you San, and I couldn't let her get away with it."
"Brittany you didn't have to do that, she isn't worth tha-"
"I couldn't let her get away with her doing that to you, she needs to know that the things she does has consequences." Brittany's balls her fist up as she taps them on the side of her leg.
"You, need to calm down Brittany, please, I'm telling you she isn't worth fighting for."
"She FUCKING hurt you Santana, I don't know how you can be so civil with her when she did that to you." Brittany yells.
It takes Santana aback, Brittany's never yelled at her like that. Brittany's never been aggressive with her like that. Her eyes widen as tears start to slowly fall, she doesn't like this, she doesn't like how Brittany's making her feel. She knows this feeling all too well.
All of a sudden she sees Brittany's face soften at her reaction. "Santana.." Brittany tries to touch her shoulder but she flinches back. It was automatic. She slowly walks backwards before running out of the room, pushing the glee kids on the way out.
Santana runs and runs and runs, her feet never stop running until they stop at her house. She storms into her room and starts crying. She knows what just happened is stupid. She's being stupid, if only she could just move on from….move on from him. Santana knows Brittany isn't him, but the way Brittany just made her just feel is reminding her about how he treated her.
The mix of sheer exhaustion from running so far and her crying pulls her into a deep dark sleep.
Brittany knows she's messed up, like really badly.
She's so ashamed of herself, she just lost control. She doesn't get angry a lot, but when she does, it's really hard for to cool down quickly.
She doesn't think she'll ever forget the look on Santana's face before she left the room. She…she looked afraid…afraid of her. Did Santana think she would have hit her?
She's still in glee practice, but it's really just background noise, all she's focusing is how she hurt someone.
She hurt someone she….loves.
Or at least that's what she thinks that feeling is. She isn't 100% yet. But it's true that she does really care about Santana. Right after Ashley, Santana and Camilla are the most important people in Brittany's life right now.
And she's might have just lost them.
Before Brittany realizes what she's doing, she gets up and leaves the choir room. She can hear Mr. Schue and glee kids calling for her, but she doesn't bother to respond.
Santana wakes up on the floor. She wipes her eyes groggily as she looks at the time on her clock.
It's three, it looks like she only slept an hour a and half.
She gets up and sees a note placed on her nightstand.
Dear Mija,
Estábamos a punto de irnos y nos dimos cuenta de que estabas dormido. Solo para hacerte saber que nos hemos ido! Te quiero mucho, abrazos y besos. - Mami y Papa (We were about to leave and we realized you were asleep. Just letting you know that we're gone! Love you so much, hugs and kisses- Mom and Dad)
It makes her smile, they are trying, trying to make her happy. Even if they don't have a clue they try.
She hears babbling and realizes Camilla must be awake. She gets up and goes to her crib.
"Hello my Princess!" Santana picks the baby and lavishes her with kisses. "Did you miss Mama?" Camilla gives a sloppy kiss on her cheek. "It seems like you did huh, I missed you too." She lays a kiss on the baby's forehead before heading off to the kitchen.
She looks around in the cabinets before settling for ramen to eat. As she puts the pot on the stove she hears the doorbell ring. Santana's confused, because nobody really visits besides Brittany, and the blonde is supposed to be a cheerios practice right now. She slowly opens the door and sees another blonde.
"Quinn? How did you get my address…and what are you doing here." Santana sees Quinn, still in her cheerios uniform, carrying not only her backpack, but a baby.
"There's a school directory, though many might not use it or know about it, it's really useful. Also I wanted to talk to you about…you know." Santana nods. "I'm sorry about Beth, I just had to excuse myself from cheerios because my mom left work early and there was no one to watch her."
"No, it's fine, maybe it'll be nice for Camilla to have a friend. Come in." She ushers the blondes in.
"I was kind of in the middle of a making a quick snack so we need to go into the kitchen, is that okay with you?" Quinn just nods in response.
"Alright so now we're here you can go on and speak Quinn."
"Santana, I'm really sorry about what I did, I was being dumb and selfish, point blank. I was basically putting you and your child in harm's way, and as a mother myself I don't know what I'd do if was in your shoes. You didn't deserve it at all." They sit in silence as Santana gets the ramen and dishes some of it for her and some for Camilla. She sits back down and looks Quinn in the eyes.
"I accept your apology Quinn, but this doesn't mean I forgive you. It's gonna take a while for me to be able to fully trust you. To be honest Quinn, it would be really nice to be friends with someone like you, someone who gets some of the shit I went through. But, doing all that for five seconds of popularity was really sick, I just need time. I'm also sorry about Brittany coming at you like that, I never knew that she would even attempt to do that."
"Santana, thank you. Also I think Brittany's coming for me was deserved, you don't have to apologize for something like that"
A semi-awkward period of silence passes by, Santana eats and feeds Camilla as Quinn looks around at Santana's house.
"Your house is small, but it's cozy and…it feels homey." Quinn states softly.
"Thanks?" Santana tells her, but she's confused on how to respond.
"How about we let Camilla and Beth get to know each other." Santana asks.
"Sure! That sounds good.
Santana can't tell how fast the time passed by, but by the time Quinn left, it was 6.
She enjoyed her presence more than she expected, and even she didn't reveal that much about herself (due to the fact she still had her doubts about the girl), it was nice to hear Quinn to talk about what she went through. It makes sense why she acts the way she does. (Santana's not justifying that either, it just makes more sense with the bigger picture.) Meeting Beth was nice too, the baby was pretty smart for almost being five months, she was cute too.
She puts on some Disney Junior on for Camilla as she does her homework. After she washes the girl's hair and gives her a bath. Santana actually puts her down for bed early, maybe all the screaming last night finally got her tired now.
She hears another knock on the door while finishing her work. She thinks its Brittany, actually she knows it is. Who else would show up at the door at 8pm.
Santana opens it and, sees Brittany, looking down at her feet.
"You can come in Britt." She says, almost in a whisper-like tone.
They go to sit on the couch and there's a thick tension in the air. No one speaks, no one makes eye contact with each other.
"I'm sorry Santana. I really am. I just didn't want anyone to hurt you like that. I don't usually get that angry. I just get protective over people I care about….people like you and Ashley and Camilla. I don't want you to ever have to be scared of me or think I'm gonna do anything to you. I would never."
"Britt…I'm sorry too."
"Santana, you shouldn't have to be sorry, it's my fault."
"He really messed me up Brittany. Us, me and you, we're…something, and he would just yell at me be rude whenever he'd see me in the halls. He made be believe all the stuff he was saying was true. Yelling just does something to me, it makes me feel all worthless again. It's really stupid and I should be over this. I'm sorry Brittany." Santana sniffles, trying to keep the tears from coming out.
"San I told you there's nothing to be sorry for."
"I'm sorry I just can't be magically fixed. You don't deserve someone as broken as me." Full on sobs come out of Santana's body as Brittany scooches over on the couch to hold her.
"Hey, hey Santana, listen to me okay? You aren't broken, you are strong. Strong enough to be 16 and dealing with all the shit you have to do. Most kids our age couldn't even muster to be like you. You're special Santana. Nobody's perfect either, you think that all the famous people had got it easy their whole lives, no. People who think other people are perfect never have had to see behind the scenes. Everything you've been through has made you the person you are today, and that's the 'broken' Santana I like and care about."
"Brittany…" Santana tightly hugs the blonde, burying herself into her embrace. Brittany makes her feel safe, accepted, and loved.
She never wants to let go of Brittany, or that feeling.
Yay! So yes Brittana had a little argument, but of course I wouldn't let it last for too long. Also I hope you enjoyed this chapter due to the fact that it is long than usual. So maybe that'll make up for the wait. Anyways, thank you for all the review and I'll see you guys next chapter!
