Chapter 8: Jacob
Nessie's POV.
"Um have we met before?" I asked him. I was sure that I'd remember seeing this guy before. Dead or alive.
"We met out in the forest before. You might not recognize me because I was a wolf then. But yes, we have encountered each other before,"
I gasped. "You're the werewolf that Bella was telling me about. You're Jacob Black aren't you?"
"You've seen Bella?" he asked me, eyes going wide.
"Yes. You didn't see her? She looked for you earlier after I told her of our encounter,"
"No," he shook his head. "I didn't see her,"
How very odd. I was sure that Bella had found him. Then again I never got the chance to ask her if she'd found Jacob or not.
"What's your name?" he asked me.
"Renesmee. Err but just call me Nessie. My name is kind of a mouthful,"
"How is it that you can see me?"
I sighed. It was always the same question with these ghosts. "I suppose that you can say I'm gifted. How is it that you can turn into a wolf? Or ghost wolf I guess," I chuckled.
"Genetics," he answered cryptically.
"That's something anybody can inherit?" I asked letting my curiosity get the better of me.
Now it was him that laughed. "That particular gene could only be inherited within my tribe,"
"Wow. That's...fascinating," You really do learn something new every day. "So what are you doing here? Did you need my help with something?"
He grinned. "How'd you know?"
I rolled my eyes. "Usually when ghosts find out that I can see and communicate with them they seek out my help. You're far from being the first to ask for something. So what do you want me to do?"
"Come with me?" he phrased it like a question rather than a demand.
"Okay?" I was confused but I went along with it anyway.
I was already thinking of ways to explain why I was leaving to the Cullens when I realized that it wasn't necessary. They were gone. They'd left a note on the table that read We went hunting. We will be back shortly.
So we were alone. I followed Jacob. "So if you don't mind my asking. How did you die?"
He stopped and closed his for a few seconds. "It happened a few weeks ago. I was in the woods by myself when I was ambushed,"
"What ambushed you?" I asked.
"Bloodsuckers that's what!" " Damn leeches! There was ten of them and only one of me. I tried to fight them off but I was no match for them. Thankfully it was over quickly,"
"I'm sorry Jacob," I shuddered as I tried to imagine what the end was like for him. "But what are you still doing here?"
"What do you mean? Is there somewhere else I should go?"
"You didn't go to heaven or hell. If you're still lingering here on Earth there's a reason for it. What is that reason?"
"Truthfully I don't know," he answered sadly. "I'm just...stuck. Yes I think that's the best word to describe it. I'm stuck,"
"But you need my help with something,"
"Yes. I need help finding my son. He's only a few months old. He disappeared right before I was killed. That's why I was in the woods alone that day. I was looking for him,"
Poor Jacob. Killed while searching for his missing baby. My eyes watered with tears. As much as I tried not stop the tears from flowing I couldn't help it.
"Nessie why are you crying?" his voice sounded alarmed.
"Your situation. It's heartbreaking. I wish there was more that I could do to help you,"
"I'm sorry Nessie,"
"What are you apologizing for?"
"Making you sad,"
"It's not your fault. I just want to find my son before anything bad happens to him,"
"Does his mother know he's missing?"
"She died giving birth to him three months ago. I was all he had left,"
Now I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. "Where have you searched?"
"The woods and the surrounding area," he answered. "I can't think of any other place to look,"
"Are we looking for a baby human or a baby wolf?"
"Could be either honestly. Normally we don't start making the change until we're teenagers. But he made the change the day he was born. His transformations are uncontrollable. Man this is so frustrating! Usually I could track him by scent but I can't smell a damn thing anymore,"
I sighed. "So what are you going to do after you find him?"
"What do you mean?"
"I mean you're dead. His mom is dead. Who is going to take care of him then since his parents are dead?"
"Shit!" he shouted. "I haven't even thought about that. I've been so focused on finding him that I haven't thought about much else,"
"Oh well. Let's just find him," I hoped that he was okay. Then an idea hit me. "I got an idea on how we can find him,"
"Really? What?"
"Bella told me that vampires have a really good sense of smell and are exceptionally good at tracking scents. I'm staying with the Cullens right now. I could ask-"
"Oh hell no!" he shouted so loud that he scared me. "That'll be the day!"
"The day that what?" I asked.
"The day I ever accept help from a damn leech that's what! Especially from the Cullens!" he continued to shout. He shook uncontrollably. "As if I'd ever accept help from my enemy!"
"Enemy?"
"Bloodsuckers are my natural enemy! I hate-"
"Hold on! Are you-"
"You don't understand!" he seethed.
"Your damn right I don't understand! Your three month old baby has been missing for weeks and you won't accept help from people who might just be able to help find him because of what exactly?! Hatred for vampires?! Is that it? You won't accept their help simply because you hate what they are?!! You know you're lucky you're dead because if you were alive I'd slap the crap out of you right now! You're unbelievable!
