Once Clark was sure that his mom would be okay, he gave the doctors a short list of people who would be allowed to see her while she was in the hospital, since while he was well aware of how many people wanted to see his mom, since he knew how well liked Martha Kent was in Smallville, but at the same time, he didn't want his mom to be overwhelmed while she was still recovering. The only people he'd put on the list were his wife and sons, Kara and her family and Lana Lang in her family, since Lana was one of his oldest friends and that had earned her and her family a ticket inside the room.
"Clark." Lana said as she entered the room and hugged him.
"Hey Lana. It's good to see you, despite the circumstances." Clark said and Lana nodded as Clark turned to face her husband.
"Kyle, can you please put whatever feelings you have about me aside for the moment." Clark said, since he was well aware of how Kyle Cushing felt about him.
"Of course. This isn't the time or place. How are you holding up?" Kyle asked and Clark could tell that he was being sincere.
"Relieved that she's going to be okay. My wife and sons are on their way out here now." Clark said.
"I'm very excited to see them again." Martha said from where she was resting.
"Martha. I'm so happy to see that you're okay." Lana said as rushed to the older woman's side.
"I'm happy to see you Lana. You know there was a time that I thought that you'd be my daughter-in-law." Martha said.
"It wasn't meant to be. But Lois is a great woman and it's nice that Clark found someone with the same aspirations as him." Lana said.
"And Kyle is a great man. If he wasn't, you wouldn't have given him the time of day." Clark said and Kyle nodded.
"So, how long until my actual daughter-in-law and my grandsons arrive?" Martha asked.
"A few hours. Only reason I was able to get here so quickly is because I was already en route." Clark said.
"Why were you coming back here? City life get to be too much for ya?" Kyle asked, only to have his wife smack him.
"Actually, Lois and I were planning on moving back to Smallville this summer, though recent events have forced us to move back here now and I'm not just talking about this." Clark said.
"What happened?" Lana asked.
"Massive layoff at the Daily Planet, Lois and I both lost our jobs, so we decided to move back here at least until we can figure something else out, but now, I know that this is where I need to be, since someone has to run the farm with Ma recovering." Clark said.
"So you're moving back." Lana said.
"Yeah." Clark said.
"Well that's just great." Kyle said, only to have his wife hit him again.
"Kyle, you promised." Lana snapped at him.
"So anyways, Lana, how are Sara and Sophie?" Martha asked, changing the subject.
"They're both good. Both wanted to be here, but they have school tomorrow." Lana said.
"Sara's 14 right?" Clark asked.
"Yeah she is." Lana said.
"Same as my sons Jonathan and Jordan. Sounds like she'll be going to school with them. Maybe she could show them around." Clark said and Lana nodded as the doctor entered the room.
"I'm sorry, but right now Ms. Kent needs to rest." the doctor said and they all nodded as Clark kissed his mother's forehead before following Lana and Kyle out the door.
The next time Clark visited his mom, his wife and sons were with him.
"Grandma." Jordan said as he rushed to his grandmother's side and she smiled at him.
"Hello Jordan. I'm so happy to see you and your brother again so soon. I thought I'd have to wait until the summer to see you again, but I hear that it will be sooner." Martha said with a smile.
"Yeah. I have to admit, moving to Smallville is something I've been looking forward to, since it's very hard for me to control what's happening to me out in Metropolis. Dad told me that moving to Smallville will help me in more ways than just providing me with a place to practice my powers. I hope it's true." Jordan said as Jonathan walked out.
"Is everything okay?" Martha asked.
"Not really. Jonathan wasn't exactly thrilled when we told him that the move was happening sooner than we'd originally planned. I think he's going to have a harder time adjusting to this than any of us." Lois said.
"His whole life was in Metropolis. It will take him some time to adjust to Smallville, but hopefully he'll come to see that it's for the best." Clark said.
"Still, Clark, maybe you should do something to help cheer him up." Martha said and Clark smiled.
"I know exactly what to do." Clark said.
"What?" Lois asked.
"I told Jonathan I'd take him to the Fortress, I think it's time I kept that promise." Clark said and Lois smiled.
"You can take him tomorrow. Right now, we need to focus on your mom." Lois said.
"I'll still be here tomorrow. The doctors are keeping me here for a few days for observation." Martha said.
"Clark, can I talk to you for a second?" Lois asked as she pulled her husband out of the room.
"What is it?" Clark asked.
"How exactly are we going to cover your mom's medical bills? Her health insurance will only cover so much and I don't want her to have to spend any of her savings and we did not get a whole lot from our severance package from the Daily Planet." Lois said.
"Well, we could call Kara." Clark suggested.
"Really?" Lois asked.
"What, we both know she loves my mom as much as we do, not to mention the fact that I now remember that she's dating Mon-El again in this universe and he's rich. They could help us pay off those bills. Maybe she'd even consider giving you a remote job for her paper, since I'm planning on focusing on running the farm, but you, Lois Lane, are a reporter. One of the best in the world. You know Kara would take you in a heartbeat." Clark said.
"Still." Lois said.
"Lois, at the very least, she should know about my mom." Clark said and Lois nodded, since they both knew that Kara would never forgive them if they didn't tell her about this.
"Let's wait until we get settled into the farmhouse first. I really don't want to discuss business here and she probably has a lot going on right now herself." Lois said and Clark nodded in agreement as they walked back into the room.
