Luz was reading her book at Eda's stand, much to Eda's annoyance.

"Kid, why do you have to read that here? You'll drive away all of our customers." Eda said.

"Uh, Eda, what customers?" Luz asked, "We're the only stand."

"This is a bad omen. Something bad must be happening."

Suddenly, Gus and Willow run up to the stand.

"Luz, something great is happening!" Gus said.

"It's the annual Covention. Students get to see all the Covens before they get placed in one."

"So... it's a job fair." Luz said.

"With magic." Gus said.

Luz figured, if her friends wanted her to go, she would go.

"Eda, I'm going with my friends to the Coven. You coming?"

"Please, you want me to go there? That place is just a bunch of propaganda for a corrupt system."

Willow looked at Eda, which didn't go unnoticed.

"But, you know, no judgement from me." Eda said, "Anyway, I haven't been to one since we were girls."

"We?" Luz asked.

"You didn't hear anything!" Eda said.

"I forget what you said, if you go with us to the Covention."

"Nope! Never!"

"There's bound to be something to steal there." Luz said.

Eda stood outside of the Covention Center with annoyance.

"I should've just gone home."

"Calm down Eda, this could be fun." Luz said.

"Yeah, yeah, fun and games, now somebody help me get my hair in this hood."

King and Luz tried to force the mane of gray into Eda's hood.

"Eda, is this really necessary?" Luz asked.

Eda simply pointed to a wanted poster of her. Luz rolled her eyes and went in with Willow and Gus. Willow explained each Coven to Luz as she looked at the nine flags hung up.

"Those are the main nine, but there are hundreds you can join."

Luz looked around and saw something.

"What's that?"

"Oh, that's the Construction Coven, part of the main nine. They use power glyphs to increase their strength."

"Wow! This place is incredible!" She said, "What's this?"

This time, it was Gus' turn to show her his knowledge. He explained the Illusion Coven to her as Eda was avoiding being noticed. King looked up at her.

"So, why did you come here if you hate this?"

"Because... I don't trust her to be alone. With the power she possesses, someone may try and use her power."

In a dark corner behind Eda, a dark figure watched the young Avatar.

"Soon, Avatar. You don't know how important you are."

With Luz, Willow, and Gus; Gus was explaining how Illusions worked.

"And that's how Illusion's work. They are clearly the best form of magic." Gus said.

"Wow. This place is truly amazing!"

"Not so fast Luz. Watch this." Eda said, pointing at an Illusion student, "See that patch? That blocks off his magic. From now on, the only thing he'll be able to do is create Illusions."

"So, he can't do anything except that? That doesn't seem... balanced." Luz said.

Before Eda could say anything else, Willow and Gus got Luz's attention.

"Luz, it's the Emperor's Coven!" Gus said.

"Let's go inside and watch!" Willow said.

"Think they'll sign my forehead?

"Only one way to find out."

Luz was about to go in when she saw something. She went over there and saw Amity speaking with a black haired woman.

"We shall talk about your magic more later Amity, for now, go and enjoy the demonstration." Lilith looked and saw Luz, "Who is this?"

Amity looked and saw Luz.

"What are you doing here?!" Amity said, "This is for real witches only!"

"Nice to see you, too. You still haven't thanked me for saving you a couple days ago."

"The only thing you did, was cause more problems for me!"

Lilith got between them.

"Amity, let me handle this." Lilith said, "So, Human, what are you doing here, and how do you know my star pupil?"

"Well, I came here today because my friends wanted to see it, and I know Amity because I saved her life at Hexside a couple days ago." Luz said.

"Well, I guess I should thank you for saving Amity, but I mostly mean, what are you doing in this world?"

"Well, there was this owl that stole my book and then there was this portal-"

"Edalyn." Lilith mumbled.

"You... know Eda?"

"Well, I was present at her birth." Lilith said, "I am Lilith Clawthorne, Edalyn's older sister."

"Speaking of, hey Lily, why are you talking with my Kid?" Eda said.

"Hello Edalyn, I haven't seen you since I was over to your house during Slither Fest, last winter."

"Yeah, yeah, we can talk about that later, why is Luz talking with you? You aren't trying to bring her to your side are you?"

"Edalyn, please, I have more dignity than that. Everyone knows Human's don't belong in the Emperor's Coven, they're powerless."

"Hey, I'm not powerless." Luz said.

"Really? Then you wouldn't mind having a Witch's Duel?" Amity said.

"Gladly." Luz said, "If I win, you admit that I am just as good as any witch."

"And when I win, you admit that you aren't a real witch and have to stop trying to learn magic."

Luz thought about it for a minute.

"Deal."

Luz held out her hand and Amity made a spell circle around her wrist.

"Deal."

Amity walked away, with a small limp. Luz walked the other direction.

"Well, Edalyn, this should be interesting." Lilith said, "Hopefully you are a good teacher."

"Keep that up, and you won't be getting a birthday present next week." Eda said.

Later, after the demonstration, Luz and Amity are in the arena, ready for their duel. Lilith introduced them.

"Beloved citizens, the Emperor's Coven proudly presents an impromptu demonstration of the sort of witch we seek every year. Introducing Amity Blight." Lilith said.

"Woo, Amity!" a fan said.

"Versus... some human girl."

Luz listened to the comments of the crowd, some ranging from "A human" to "Humans can't do magic" and even some were "She's not Amity". Luz smirked, she's only been here a week and a half but she found out that the witches here had no Idea what humankind is really like.

"It's not too late to ask for a cheat or two." Eda said.

"I'm not powerless, Eda, I can do this."

"You're pretty confident."

"I know that I can do this. I am a prodigy after all."

She was going to show them what Humans can really do. The bell rang and the crowd started cheering. Amity made a spell circle and an Abomination rose from the ground. Amity looked surprised at the size of it, being that it was almost four times the height it was earlier.

"Show me what you got, Human!" Amity said.

Luz put up a hand and raised two fingers.

"Gladly."

Luz dodged the Abomination's strike and spun around. Sparks started appearing on her fingers. She spun around and shot a bolt of Lightning just to the right of Amity. Amity fell to the ground as the bolt made contact with the wall. Amity, as well as everyone, looked at Luz with surprise. They've always thought Human were weak, that they were powerless, they never knew Humans could command the elements. Luz stood straight up and blew the smoke on her fingers away.

"Show me what you got, Blight!"

"A-A-Abomination, crush!"

The Abomination tried to slam its massive hand on Luz, when she rolled out of the way and sent a stream of blue fire at the goo monster's head. Luz put her hands on the ground and smiled. The floor was made of rock. Luz stomped one leg on the ground and a large rock floated in the air. Luz punched it and it went flying into the Abomination, sending goo all over the ground. Luz turned her attention to Amity and sent a large blast of air at her. Amity was sent to the ground and she growled in anger. She summoned several medium sized Abomination's that surrounded Luz. Luz blasted one with her blue fire, sent a rock spire through another one, and sends a large gust of air at one that knocked it over and made a purple splatter on the ground. She sends a Lightning bolt at another Abomination and smiled as it melted into a purple puddle. Luz looked at Amity and smiled. She quickly brought her arms up in front of her face while simultaneously slamming her foot on the ground. Amity was soon covered to the shoulders in a rock barrier.

"Ready to give up?" Luz asked.

Amity stared at her for a second before lowering her head.

"I give."

Luz lowered the rock and Amity ran out of the arena.

"Amity, wait."

Luz ran after her as Eda taunted Lilith. Luz found Amity sitting in a dark corner, crying.

"Amity-"

"Go away."

"I'm sorry I-"

Amity stood up and got in Luz's face.

"You don't get it do you?! You embarrassed me in front of the Emperor's Coven, my future! They don't take in losers and I just gave up!" Amity slid down the wall, "Do you have any idea what it's like to have a hundred expectations people set on you?"

Luz looked down and slid down the wall.

"Yes, I do."

The pair stayed quite for a second.

"What was that? With the fire and the rocks?" Amity asked.

"In my world, people are able to control one of four elements. Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. We call it Bending."

"Then how did you do multiple?"

"I'm special. You see, I'm the Avatar, a person able to bend all four elements. Every time I die, I get reincarnated and have to learn all the elements again. There's a lot more to it, but that's basically the gist. I'm supposed to keep the world balanced between good and evil. Problem is, no one needs the Avatar anymore, so... I ran away."

Amity made a spell circle and pulled Luz's wrist in in it.

"There, the oath is unbound."

Luz looked at Amity.

"So... I don't have to stop learning magic?"

"No, you don't... do you even know magic?"

Luz pulled out a note pad and drew a light glyph. She pressed it and the glyph activated. Luz held the ball of light and showed it to Amity.

"I know I'm not a witch, but I'm training hard to be one."

Amity got up and started to walk away when Luz saw something.

"Wait, is that... an undercut?" Luz said, "Oh and there's something on your neck, too."

Amity reached and grabbed the thing off her neck.

"A power glyph?" Amity said, "Lilith... Lilith made me cheat."

Amity looked upset and Luz grabbed the glyph.

"Hey, no one needs to know about this." Luz burns the glyph, "It can be our little secret."

Amity rubbed the back of her neck.

"T-t-thanks."

Luz noticed Amity limp again and grabbed her hand.

"What happened to your leg?"

"I... I fell down the stairs."

"Do you have any water on you?"

"Uh, well, I can summon it. Why?"

"Show me where you're injured."

Amity raised her leggings and Luz saw the large dark bruises on her leg. It went all the way from her ankle to her thigh. Amity made a spell circle and Luz started to bend the water. She surrounded her hands with it and pressed them against Amity's leg. Her hands started glowing and after a few seconds, Amity was healed. Amity lowered her pant leg and quickly stood up.

"Thanks." She said quietly.

Amity quickly walked away and Luz thought about it for a minute. Her mother was the greatest Healer in the world, possibly even in this world, so Luz knew that wound wasn't from a simple fall down the stairs, unless that staircase had arms and a metal beam. She was snapped out of her thoughts when Eda and King came running by.

"Come on, Luz! We're going home!"

"What did you do now?"

"I'll tell you later! Let's go before my sister finds out about the Frost Lizard I snuck into her dress!"
