Wendy felt itchy all over. Her fur sunk into her skin. Her snout sunk into her face. Within seconds, she was human again.
Wendy held a hand to her wound and crept across the room, being careful not to make a sound.
She started up the stairs.
As soon as she reached the top, the stair creaked.
She paused and listened.
Hoping no one heard. Her hopes were dashed.
"Wendy? Honey? Is that you?" a voice called.
She sighed softly and kept going.
"Yes Mom!" Wendy called back. "Its me!"
"What are you doing up so early sis?" Her brother Brad called out. "School doesn't start until 7:30!"
Wendy paused before entering her room.
"I couldn't sleep!" She said as she shut the door.
Turning the lock, she rushed to her dresser and fumbled through it. She yanked out a belt.
Ripping her shirt off and pressing it to her wound, she headed towards her bathroom. The toilet was broke and her mother Alice needed to call the plumber but everything else worked.
Opening the cabinet doors she reached under the sink and grabbed a bottle of peroxide.
She poured a bunch of the foul liquid onto the shirt and pressed it to the wound.
Immediately she hissed in pain and grabbed the towel rod hard. She kept it pressed and the stinging sensation intensified, but she knew it was necessary to avoid infection.
Pulling the shirt away she noticed that the bleeding had stopped. She was also amazed and knew that many bullets come from a shotgun but was amazed that all but one had missed her and she also realized that the hole in her side was small...she'd live.
Walking back to her bed she took the belt and wrapped it around her, making sure it covered the gunshot wound.
Getting dressed, she pulled on her long jeans and a green t shirt. She pulled her hoodie on again and once more made sure the hood covered her face.
Hiding the bloody shirt with the other one she opened her door and headed downstairs.
Crossing to the living room, she opened the door and called bye.
"Wait! Wendy! Your lunch" John said as Brad tossed it to her. Catching it in mid air, she exited the house and closed the door.
The two stared at the door before rejoining Alice in the kitchen.
