Spyro and Cynder both walked across the hallways of white color with the glowing blue lines running through them, they both had learned how to navigate through the corridors for the past week. They had learned a bit of how the place was on the inside, and they had been "put on the system", which meant that now the doors recognized them and would open to grant them passage.
Well, most of the doors, since apparently there were some areas that were "out of their clearance range", as one of the military officers with who they talked had explained to them. The two got that it meant that there were places where they were not allow to go and so they doors would not open for them. Although both of them wondered why there were places they were not allowed to go, they both went along with it and they found out that they didn't really needed that at all.
"I still wonder how the doors just recognize us." Cynder said, looking at Spyro. "You think it has to do with the 'surveillance system' that they spoke about? The thing about these lines on the walls seeing everything that happens in the hallways?"
"Maybe." Spyro said, "Honestly, it still creeps me out. Thinking that the building is watching us all the time."
It was a thing that Spyro had learned to deal with in the week that they had been in there. However, it was still something that he found unsettling, as well as something that he didn't quite understood. You could say the same about many of the new gadgets and technologies that he and Cynder were present in the past week, starting with the "Aethernet" that Asher introduced to them.
The concept of an "invisible web covering the world the entire world", which was "real and not real at the same time", was something that still puzzled Spyro. He did understood, however, that it was some kind of giant storage where stories and information were place. Like a giant library, which you could access with the help of a thing like a "terminal" like the one that Asher showed them, which displayed the specific information they wanted in an "hologram".
Spyro was still trying to precisely understand all of these terms, but he did understood enough to know that, if he had a doubt or wanted to find out more about the modern world, he could use it to get some information.
It already helped him learn about his own legend.
Or what the ones of the future thought his legend was.
Did they actually believed that Spyro leveled an entire mountain to get to the other side of it? Or that he boiled an entire river with the fire element to prevent himself from drowning?
It seemed that they thought that Spyro was nearly a god of so powerful. Although Asher had said that that specific version of his legend was one that many considered quite far-fetched, although not completely out of the realm of reality to a purple dragon as famous as Spyro clearly was.
"Seriously, there is even cartoons about you." Asher said to the other purple dragon, "As well as live action series, but all of them are with adults playing you, except the ones that have flashbacks of your childhood, and... some of them don't have a very positive depiction of Cynder."
Spyro even had the chance to watch one of these "live action series" that Asher spoke about, which apparently was one that had aired no more than a year before. This one showed Spyro and Cynder already as adults emerging from the crystal. Spyro was surprised for seeing an adult purple dragon playing him in the series. Asher, however, explained to him that this dragon was not really a purple dragon, but was just using a chameleon crystal to change the color of his scales, just like the other dragoness was using one to change hers' to the same coloration as Cynder in the stories.
The story itself had a fast pace and was full of action. In fact, it had a lot more action than Spyro actually remembered having faced. He was pretty sure that they faced only one giant stone being, and not five of them, like they showed on the first episode.
Asher said to them that they could watch the rest of the episodes later if he wanted, and that he was free to use his terminal to access the Aethernet at any time that he wanted until he got one for himself. Spyro thanked him, of course, but he doubted that he would be able to actually use it. The thing was nearly as complex and confusing as the rest of the technology that Spyro had to face.
Of course, some of it was straight forward, like the doors that recognized him, and the systems that answered to voice. However, there was a lot more of things that were quite complex, and would often catch both him and Cynder by surprise.
"You learn to deal with it in time." Asher assured them both, "All of the others had trouble at the beginning, especially the ones who came further from the past. Well, none of them came from as far in the past as you did, but you will get the hang of it. You will learn how the play video games and how to browse on the web, and I'll be getting the best gadgets to show you when I go out shopping again."
Well, Asher would certainly be the one to bring things to them, since Spyro and Cynder were not allow to leave the place.
For some reason, the ones in charge of the place were sure to make it as clear as possible for the two dragons that they were not to leave the building under any circumstance. When they asked why, they answered that it was for "security reasons", and added that the same was a rule for all the other purple dragons, save for Asher.
Spyro and Cynder found this condition for their stay to be a little strange, and Cynder even mentioned that it actually made it seem like they were prisoners. However, they were well-treated by everyone, and none of them was put into cells, or chained, or linked to each other with magic necklaces this time.
Also, the two dragons didn't worried much about getting out, as it seemed that everyone in the place had already adjusted a schedule to keep them busy as they were staying in there.
Most of which including training sessions.
Like the one that they had just half an hour ago, and that finished with both of them panting and feeling a bit sweaty and grimy. The training had become an important part of their routine, and it was something that Spyro and Cynder were growing used to by now. They were quickly recovering their swing, as they have fully warmed up and were once more on the same shape they were back on the day. It had been rather fast, and it was good, for the training was not an easy one.
After today training, which was particularly hard and involved fighting into difficulty, muddy terrain, Spyro and Cynder both felt like they could use a shower. Of course, the mud was false, and it vanished from their bodies along with the rest of the simulation as soon as the training ended, but the two dragons still could feel the mud on their scales.
"It is psychological." Aquarius said to them, "Your body gets convinced that what happens is real, and it still brings about the physical sensations of the simulation even after the simulation ended. When I was beginning, I made a simulation that involved a long crawl over a tunnel that was fill with worms. By the end of it, I could still feel worms crawling over his limbs for two days. Had a lot of trouble to sleep."
The dragons took his word. Still, they felt like they should take a bath, to help clean away their sweat from their bodies, as this training had truly caused them to transpire, and that was not just a simulation.
As a result, Spyro and Cynder soon were moving to "the showers", where they could clean themselves from the sweat and the tiredness in one of the sonic showers.
The two dragons had been a bit confuse by the concept of being clean without using water. Asher explained to them about the technology that used "focalized sound vibration" as a manner of cleaning dirty, grime and other contaminants from the body, even loose and dead scales. The concept was a bit hard to understand, but they got that it used sound to clean them instead of water.
The dragons were a bit skeptical that something like that could work. At least until they tried it themselves.
It was a truly amazing experience! It felt like water was pouring over their bodies, but they were not getting any wet, and by the end of it, they smelled as if they had just got out from a regular bath and they didn't needed to dry up.
"It is more of a practical option than anything." Asher said to them, "A way of saving water by using this as an option, but a lot of people still like to bath in water, especially when they want to go for an actual swim."
The dragons could understand that, they too would prefer an actual bath, with hot water on a tub, but the sonic showers were not a bad deal, especially since they gave a relaxing feeling that was very similar to the one of having water pouring at you from above. It was not a bad thing in the slightest.
As they both got out of the male and female showers, the two dragons now were walking into another part of the facility, to do something else that was part of the routine, and that the ones in there seemed to encourage a lot: socializing with the other purple dragons.
They even gave them an entire room that was actually very similar to a "café", as some had said, with the sole purpose of giving the purple dragons a space where they could socialize.
"You are all a team now." Aquarius said to them. "It is important that you all learn to get along and trust each other; and what better way than by just talking and getting to know each other better?"
Spyro and Cynder went along with it, and they started to attend to the "Purple Café", as Asher called it, and they were talking and conversing with the other purple dragons, and they soon found out that some of them really made for good conversations.
Jocasta was a very good one to converse with, as she would often answer to all of their questions with a kind tone, and she was someone who was very polite when it came to talking and having a nice cup of tea. Her voice was also pleasant to hear as well, it almost seemed to be musical.
Another one(s) with who they liked to talk was (were?) Soren and Randy, the ones known as "Star of the Double". The two-headed dragon was a nice conversation as well, with both heads making several commentaries, sometimes one completing the other's phrases, and they were funny as well. They were the kind with whom you could go to talk if you were after a relaxed conversation, without worrying very much about the serious things that happened around you. They seemed to have a deep knowledge of magic, which impressed the young dragons, and had good jokes as well, which were better for the two dragons than the dirty jokes that the Lover liked to share with the other adults.
All in all, Spyro and Cynder were both getting pretty well along with the others. With a certain exception...
Adamaius, also known as "Star of the Burglar" still didn't got along very well with the two. He had kept his distance from them after the outburst in their first training session. Spyro and Cynder themselves didn't really tried to start anything, and just kept their distance as well, even because the Burglar gave them some glares on the brief times that their eyes met. Spyro, in particular, had the impression that the slightly older purple dragon was glaring at him as if he hoped that he would spontaneously combust.
Spyro did felt discouraged to go talk to the other dragon, because he clearly seemed like he didn't wanted to talk to either of them. So, he was just going to keep his distance.
Well, that certainly didn't happened today, because as soon as Spyro and Cynder walked into the room, Adamaius was the first one who came in direction to them.
It was almost as if he had appeared out of nowhere, and he startled the two dragons a bit. For a long moment, Spyro and Cynder only stared to Adamaius, and the Burglar looked back at the two smaller dragons. His expression was not very friendly, and he just kept looking, and this did put the two dragons on the edge, so much that they were unconsciously adopting fighting positions.
They nearly jumped out of their own scales when someone else popped into view, this time coming from above.
"Kon'nichiwa!" Shiryu said, snaking himself down into view like a snake coming down from a branch right into its unsuspecting victims. If snakes had fur on their heads, purple scales, limbs, and hoovered in the air as if they were unaffected by the laws of gravity.
"Oh... hi." Cynder said, as both she and Spyro recovered from the sudden scare, looking at the flying, smiling noodle-dragon. "Shiryu, right?"
"Un, that's me!" The dragon said, straightening his body and hoovering in the air a little bit, before he landed right by Adamauis' side. He was still smiling, while the Burglar had the same serious and not-friendly expression on his face.
The silence was back, and it was a bit unnerving.
"So... do either of you want something?" Cynder finally asked, looking at the Burglar and the Jester.
"Adam does." Shiryu said, looking at the black dragoness. "He wants to apologize for having been mean to you earlier, and he even brought snacks."
Spyro and Cynder looked at the elongate purple dragon, before turning their gazes to the bigger one. Adamaius looked back at them for a while, before he sighed. His expression changed. It didn't became friendly, but it certainly now seemed less hostile than it was just a few moments before.
"Yes." He said, looking at the two, and only then, the two noticed that the bigger purple dragon was bringing something on one of his arms, and it looked like a sizable box. "Look, I am not really good at this apologizing thing, so here is something." He said, letting them see the box, and the dragons looked at it, before they shared a look among themselves.
"Hmmm, thanks?" Cynder said, and Shiryu then said:
"Let's eat it together!"
Soon, the four dragons were sitting in a corner, in one of the tables that were set in the cafeteria that had been prepare just for the members of the prophecy, and Adamaius placed the box in the table, before he opened it and pulled out some cupcakes. He placed them over the table, and Shiryu was the first one to lunge at them and snatch one, starting to eat right in the moment, letting out sounds of delight as he did.
Spyro and Cynder looked as Shiryu ate with gusto, while Adam calmly picked up a cupcake and ate it with a certain indifference.
Slowly, the two dragons each picked one of the pink cupcakes and tried it.
They were absolutely delicious.
"Oh my gosh!" Cynder said, still chewing on one of the cupcakes. "These are amazing!"
"I know, right?" Shiryu said, as he picked up another, and nearly stuffed it inside of his cheeks, and soon Spyro and Cynder were following his example. They were not shoving cupcakes on their faces, mind you; they were eating in a much more controlled fashion.
For a while, they just continued to eat the cupcakes in silence, with the occasional delighted sounds coming from Shiryu, who seemed just like a small kid eating sweets.
The silence lasted for a while, before Adamaius himself decided that it was time to break it.
"So... how has the future been treating both of you?" He asked, looking at them, and the two looked back at him. It felt a bit awkward to talk to the other purple dragon; however, soon they were both speaking of how the future has been for them.
"And the Aethernet thing is also cool." Spyro said, looking at Adamaius, "It was Asher who shown it to us. He showed me a 'website' that speaks of my legend. Of the things that I did. And also, of the things that everyone thinks that I did."
"Oh?" Adamaius said, leaning forward and looking more intently at the other purple dragon.
"Yeah, it seems that they added a lot of things to my story." Spyro said, looking a bit embarrassed. "Only half of those things really happened, and they didn't happened the way that they described."
Adamaius looked very intently at Spyro as he said that, and that was when he spoke:
"You mean things like... the existence of the Dark Master?"
Spyro looked at him, and Adamaius looked back at him.
"Malefor never truly existed, did he?" Adamaius asked, looking at the other purple dragon. "The thing of the 'world breaking apart' was just some kind of natural disaster that you reverted using your elemental powers, wasn't it?"
The way that he looked at Spyro was strange. It was as if he was asking Spyro to agree with him.
However, Spyro could not.
"It would have been nice if Malefor was made up." Cynder said, causing the two purple dragons to look at her. "He wouldn't have ruined so many lives."
Adamaius looked at her for a few moments, before his gaze shifted back to Spyro. The younger purple dragon nodded.
"Yes." He said, looking at the other one. "This part is real. Malefor really existed, and he was very dangerous."
Adamaius looked at the two of them, the younger purple dragon and the black dragoness. For a moment. Both of them could see a shadow pass by his eyes, and for a moment it seemed that he was about to say something else. However, he didn't; instead he just took another bite into the cupcake he had, and it seemed as if he wanted to tear the cupcake apart to see it bleed. It was a little disturbing, however, the two continued to eat.
"Wow, these are really good." Spyro said, after a few more moments of silence as they ate the cupcakes. "We have been coming here in the past week, and we didn't knew that they served these on this cafeteria."
"They don't." Adamaius said, and Spyro looked at him.
"Oh, these came from some other place? Where were they bought?"
"They weren't bought." Adamaius said, and this made both Spyro and Cynder stop to look at him.
These sweets weren't stolen, were they?
"They didn't came from any shop or store." Adamaius said with indifference, as if reading their minds.
"Adam made them himself." Shiryu said, finishing the thought, and surprising the other two dragons, who looked at the older purple dragon on the table, who still had the same look of indifference.
"You made these?" Cynder asked, looking at the Burglar. "For real?"
"What, is it that hard to believe?" Adamaius asked rather coldly, and it made Cynder recoil a little bit. However, the gaze of the purple dragon softened, and he sighed before saying:
"Yes, I did those. It is a thing that I do on my spare time, since they don't let me go out." Adamaius sounded indifferent as he spoke that, and he continued "I make cupcakes, cookies, sometimes I do soufflés and ice cream, and sometimes..."
As he said that, he reached inside of the box from which the cupcakes had come, and he pulled another, smaller box, placing it into the table.
"I do one or two of these." He said, as he opened the smaller box to reveal...
A cake.
A round cake with white and pink frosting, with flowers of pink frosting on top. It looked very pretty.
Shiryu's eyes became comically wide when he caught sight of the cake, and he let out a long gasp as he looked at it.
"Shiryu." Adamaius said, looking at him. "Please, don't make a scandal. It is just a..."
"Kēkiiiiiiiiii!" The noodle dragon squealed, twisting his long body over itself in such a way that he just fell of the chair and onto the ground. Spyro and Cynder both became worried, and they looked at the purple dragon that now was on the floor.
Shiryu didn't seemed like he was having a seizure or anything serious, but his behavior was...
The elongated purple dragon had a dumb smile on his face as he was now moving his body and his legs in a strange rhythm, which was nearly frenetic, but it didn't looked like a nervous crisis, but more like an excited dance. There was also the fact that Shiryu seemed to be singing.
"Kēki! Kēki! Amai kēki! Oishī kēki" He sang as he danced, "Kēki! Kēki! Watashi wa kēki ga daisukidesu!"
Spyro and Cynder just... stared, while Adamaius groaned as he facepalmed.
"What's... he doing?" Spyro asked, looking at the strange dancing and singing that the long purple dragon was doing, and Adamaius said:
"The Cake Dance."
The two dragons looked at him, and were about to ask something more, when Shiryu suddenly raised to the air like a balloon.
"Kēki ga hoshīdesu!" He said, and immediately dove forward. It looked like he was pouncing at the cake, but was stop by Adamaius, who placed a paw in front of him, making Shiryu hit his snout in it and bend his long and flexible body in a comical way, before he slumped back and was once more sitting in place.
Spyro and Cynder blinked, before they shared a look and thought:
Okay... that actually happened.
Soon, the cake was being slice, and each one of the dragons was getting a slice for themselves.
The cake tasted divine. Just... divine.
"Wow! This is amazing!" Spyro said, looking at Adamaius, "You made this cake too?"
"Yes." Adamaius said, sounding as if he was a bit annoyed for having to answer what, to him, was an obvious question, while he ate his own slice in silence, unlike Shiryu, who constantly let out sounds of delight as he ate each bite from the cake.
"Your cakes are the best, Adam-san!"
Adamaius said nothing in return, but he looked away, and Cynder could swear that she saw a blush forming on his face.
"Yeah, this is really good." Spyro said, as he took another bite. "Where did you learned to make cakes?"
Adamaius said nothing for a few moments, before he said:
"I learned because of my parents."
"Oh, are they..." Spyro said, but then he rephrased it, "Were they bakers?"
Spyro didn't even knew why he rephrased all of sudden, and he was now thinking that he shouldn't had. Talking in the past tense was an indication that his parents, whoever they might have been, were no longer around. It was not wrong, considering the situation, however it could still be bad thing to remember someone.
Spyro now wished that he had not corrected himself.
"They were assassins." Adamaius said, with a certain indifference, as he ate yet another piece of the cake in complete silence. He looked like he had just spoke something completely casual to say in a conversation. However, the words had an impact on the two dragons.
Spyro and Cynder stared at the older purple dragon.
"A-assassins?" Cynder said, "You mean..."
"That they killed others for money, yes." Adamaius said, still with that indifferent expression and tone, as he simply continued to eat the cake. Spyro and Cynder shared a look among themselves. He was not serious, was he? He was probably joking. I mean, who speaks something like that with such an indifferent face?
"You are kidding, right?" Spyro asked and this time Shiryu spoke:
"No, he is serious." The noodle dragon spoke, causing the other two to look at him. "Adamaius is from a whole family of elite assassins."
Spyro and Cynder blinked, and they looked back at the older one, who simply sighed.
"Yeah, they usually think that I am joking when I say that." Adamaius said, "And then they move away and keep distance when they realize I am not."
Spyro and Cynder both looked at him without saying a word, and the other dragon continued:
"I've come from the Deathclaw family. They are a family that is formed by generations of assassins." Adamaius said, looking away, seeming that he was getting into some reminiscence, and he only continued to talk:
"I'm not sure of when our family formed, but it was centuries ago. Well, centuries on the time when I was born. Everyone in my family was an assassin. My dad, my mother, my grandpa, my siblings, and myself, since I was born into that family. We killed anyone, so long as the payment was good. We were a different family."
Spyro and Cynder shared a look, as neither of them were sure of what to say, and Adamaius simply continued:
"As a Deathclaw, I was destined to be an assassin like all the rest of my family. They had this expectation for every one of my siblings. Of course, none of them was a purple dragon, like myself."
There was a silence, and he then chuckled a little bit.
"Back in the time when I lived, the world was going down the drain. There were political plots, and I didn't knew that at the time, but my family was part of it. They were getting ready for the possibility of a purple dragon being born in answer to that, and they were ready to kill the purple hatchling as soon as they caught sight of it. Of course, they didn't expected the purple dragon to be one of their own."
"They should have destroyed my egg as soon as they saw its color. But for some reason they decided to let me hatch and live. I guess that they assumed that they could use me. I mean, they had the chance of having a purple dragon among their ranks! That was kind of a big thing for them, especially for them being directly connected to..."
Adamaius stopped, and the others looked at him for a few moments, before he continued:
"Anyway, they believed that I was the future of the clan, and that they could turn me into the one who would bring greatness to the family again, the one who would make their legacy and their position in the world finally be what it should." He said, and Spyro and Cynder both looked at him as he had a sour look on his eyes and a smirk on his muzzle.
"They basically had a lot of expectations for me... that was why they let me live. Well, they surely regretted that decision."
Spyro and Cynder looked at the purple dragon, who now had a very strange look on his face. Of course, it only lasted for a few moments, before Adamaius was once more continuing:
"They trained me to be an assassin like the rest of them. They taught me how to infiltrate without being seen, how to hide in the shadows and disappear from sight, and all the best ways to kill others, be it with a poison, with some deadly trap, or with my own claws."
"They also taught me a lot of other things. You see, sometimes, to do your job, you need some skills that don't really have to do with assassination. This is because sometimes you need to approach while being seen, but you need to be able to hide the fact that you are an assassin. You need to convince them that you are a traveling merchant, or some businessman from another country, or even the pizza deliverer."
Spyro and Cynder both remained in silence as they saw the other purple dragon speak, and they both resisted the urge of asking what a "pizza" was. Adamaius continued:
"So, among the things that they taught, which they were 'kind' enough to let me chose, was baking. You know, making cupcakes, bread and cakes." He said, and looked at the two, "Basically, I had everything about baking taught to me only so I could become a better assassin."
"Now, most of the subjects that were taught to me I didn't really paid any mind to. It was just more things for me to learn and later on forget when I never needed that again. But, with baking it was different."
"I realized that baking was really interesting. It was something that really managed to catch my attention, and it was the thing that I most dedicated myself. Actually, it became the only class to which I actually looked forward, and the only one that I decided to study by myself outside of the time for lessons."
They noticed that the dragon had changed his expression as he spoke of that, and he seemed that now he was talking of something that he really liked.
"I discovered that I loved baking. I loved making cakes and sweets, way more than I ever could like being an assassin. It was something that truly made myself and others happy, and it did involve a lot less blood."
Spyro and Cynder didn't knew if this last part was a joke.
"I felt like, with baking, I truly found out something that I could invest my future on." Adamaius said, and he still had the happy look on his face. However, that quickly turned sour. "Of course, my family didn't thought like that."
Spyro and Cynder said nothing, and neither did Shiryu, who continued to eat pawfuls of cake now that no one was truly looking.
"When I went to my dad, and told him that I wanted to give up being an assassin to become a baker, do you know what face he did?" Adamaius said as he looked at the two. Neither of them responded, so the older purple dragon continued:
"Well, he wasn't amused, that much I can tell you!" Adamaius said, "I spent the next two weeks in a dungeon being flogged daily, while they tried to 'get these thoughts out of my head and bring me to my senses'."
Spyro and Cynder flinched at the thought. What kind of parents did that to their own child!?
"Of course, they were losing their time. I had already decided. So, I ended up escaping home and then I was on the run while my family went after me to try to bring me back." Adamaius said, "That, of course, was when I actually started playing my role as the purple dragon. While I was running from my family, I did many things. I destroyed some machineries, set some places on fire, got some guys either killed or exposed for their wrongdoings. I didn't did that because I wanted to help anyone or anything, I was mostly doing that to get my family off my tail."
"But in doing that he ruined the bad guys' plans." Shiryu said with a mouth full of cake, and Adamaius looked like he felt a bit proud of himself for that, despite claiming that he didn't did that to help anyone.
"Yeah, it turns out that the things I was doing pocked a lot of holes on the plan that my family was helping setting up to throw the world in anarchy. Eventually, the holes were so many that the entire thing just collapsed like a house of cards. After that, my family truly looked like they wanted to kill me."
A silence followed these words, which was then broke by Adamaius' next words:
"So I killed them first."
Cynder and Spyro both gasped at this, and they looked at the other purple dragon.
"That's right." Adamaius said, "I killed my entire family. My brothers, my grandpa, my mother and finally my own father. One by one."
The extremely casual way in which he spoke that was probably the more disturbing of it all. He spoke about it as if he didn't felt bad in the slightest. There was no pride or satisfaction on his voice, but he talked in a way that said "yeah, whatever", which made it seem, to the ones hearing, that he didn't even care.
"My father was the last one, and he was the hardest." Adamaius said, ignoring their shocked expressions. "I'll spare you guys the gory details, but I finally managed to kill him by gouging his heart out of his chest. Bet he regretted teaching me how to do that."
"Unfortunately, we were fighting inside of place that did cryogenic research, and we ended up causing some damage to one of the tanks."
"Cryogenic?" Spyro asked.
"It has something to do with ice." Shiryu said, looking at him, and Adamaius nodded.
"Yeah, more precisely, they researched how to put others to sleep by freezing them so they could wake up later on." The older purple dragon said, "Anyway, we ended up breaking a tank, and the whole place was freezing. I killed my dad on time, but I was not fast enough to get out of there. So, I was turned into a dragonsicle and stayed into that abandoned lab for quite a long time."
"Until they found him." Shiryu said happily.
"Yeah, the guys in here thawed me, and that was when I saw myself in Tomorrowland, forced to put my tail on the line with a bunch of other purple weirdos to save a bunch of idiots who I don't even know."
Spyro and Cynder shared a look, and they looked back at him.
"That's... something." Cynder said, and Adamaius shrugged.
"Yeah, I think it is. I am glad that I am alive, but the whole thing of being forced to save the world sucks, especially because they don't let me out. It kind of feels like I am back living with my parents."
Spyro and Cynder looked at him, before Spyro asked him:
"So... you slept in the ice for a long time?" Spyro asked, and Adamaius looked back at him.
"Enough to be here in the future, just like you guys, and like the rest of our little group."
"Yeah, we all slept until they found us!" Shiryu said, "I was sleeping because of a curse that they placed on me."
"A curse?" Cynder asked, and Adamaius said:
"A curse cast by one of the priest of his family, for what I could understand." He said as he looked at them, "Back on his time, in their homeland, Shiryu's family was a really big and important family."
"We were the daimyos of our land." Shiryu said, "I was to become the daimyo one day, but we got attacked and they started setting our house on fire, so my father took me into a place and made the sorcerer put me to sleep until it was safe for me to wake up. I woke up expected to find my dad, but I only found those dragons in weird armors."
Shiryu remained silent for a few moments, before his spoke:
"Then they told me my entire family died."
He sounded sad, but also resigned, as if he had already come to terms with this revelation. This made Cynder and Spyro's hearts both clench.
No one spoke for a few moments, and then Cynder asked:
"Were you... close to your family?" Cynder asked, unsure of what could be something good to say at that moment, and the younger purple dragon nodded.
"Yeah, I was." He said, looking at them, "Dad was a good leader, even though all of these people wanted to hurt him, including that sorcerer. He wanted to cast a curse that would destroy dad and our country, but I managed to stop him!"
"If it wasn't for Shiryu, the guy would have destroyed half of the world only to get back at a single dude." Adamaius said, "Talk about overdoing it."
"Yeah, but I could not help with his other enemies. I was still recovering from the fight with the sorcerer, so I couldn't help. They put me to sleep in that locked room so they wouldn't come for me as well. I don't get why they would want to hurt us, dad said that my birth was blessed. And my dad was the best guy, always fair and kind with the others."
"Yeah, it sounds like he was actually a nice guy." Shiryu admitted, "Even thought he didn't had a lot of imagination when naming his children."
Spyro and Cynder looked at him, and the purple dragon looked back at them.
"Shiryu's name is from the language of the place he was born, it is divided in two parts. 'Shi', what means 'purple'; and 'ryu' which is the word for 'dragon'." He explained, and the two dragons took a few moments to process it.
"Wait." Cynder said, looking at Shiryu, "So, your name literally means... 'purple dragon'?"
"Yes." The noodle-like dragon said.
"I wonder how many brain cells they used to think of that." Adamaius said, looking to the side.
"It is a good name." Shiryu said, "It is noble and it was the first gift that my family gave me. Names are gifts of love from your family to you."
More silence followed these words, and Spyro and Cynder looked between the two other purple dragons.
"So, you stopped a world domination plot and you prevented a crazy wizard from destroying the world." Spyro said, looking at Adamaius and Shiryu, respectively. "So, this means that purple dragons really do important things."
"Yeah, we do." Adamaius said, looking at Spyro. "If you have any doubt, you can just go asking the guys in here. You will also find out that we have some family stories to share with you. For example..."
Adamaius then pointed at a table, where the purple faun dragon and the two-headed purple dragon were.
"Randall and Soren over there were quite famous back on their time." Adamaius said, "Not only for being a purple dragon with two heads, but also because they were an orphan egg that was hatched by a female unicorn. She raised them as if they were her own. Something impressive, considering that at the time dragons and unicorns were at war and going for each other's throats. They grew up with her their entire lives, and even learned magic from her, they never took part on the war in any way, until she died on an attack from the dragon forces."
"Now, instead of siding with one or the other, the two decided to put on a show for everyone to see and, just like that, they stopped a war that could have stretched for centuries."
Spyro and Cynder looked at him and at the two-headed dragon as he explained that. All of sudden, a memory sparked into their minds, about how Aquarius had told them about the said war, and how they saw the silhouette of the purple dragon who stopped it. A silhouette that had two heads.
"As for Kas, he was born into a family that planned to overthrow the royal family of Warfang, and they raised him to be their weapon. I kind of sympathize with him a little bit." Adamaius said, and they looked at the faun dragon, "Of course, like my family didn't expected me to love baking, they didn't expected him to fall in love for the Warfang princess and ditch them to join her side. He didn't ended up with the girl, but he did saved her family from death and Warfang from a dictatorship."
"There are some amazing stories in here, if you go around asking." Adamaius concluded, and the two dragons thought about what he had just said.
It really seemed that purple dragons only did important things. Saving the world from domination and destruction and ending wars seemed to be the main thing that the purple dragons did.
No wonder it seemed that everyone in there had them all in high-regard.
"Yeah, purple dragons are the best, yahoo." Adamaius said with a faked enthusiasm, "And still, we are not allowed out of this darn building."
"Adam doesn't likes being locked up." Shiryu said to the two, and the other purple dragon nodded.
"It was what my family did with me most of the times. They kept my in a sturdy cell that I called 'bedroom' while they didn't needed me or were punishing me." The purple dragon said, "They thought that this way they would reduce my contact with the world and preventing me from 'losing sight of what was important', or whatever."
"You really don't liked being confined in here, do you?" Cynder asked, and Adamaius said:
"Yeah, that's pretty much what I just said. Anyway, no one likes being confined." He said, looking at the black dragoness. "If someone gets stuck into a place and not allowed to get out, of course that they will get uncomfortable and nervous, until the point where they start flipping. I mean, juts look at the guys."
Spyro and Cynder did. They saw Randall and Soren still chatting with Kas. Allisandra was polishing her lance while Cedric was next to her experimenting what seemed to be a tiara. Jocasta was in a corner playing with Shilloh. Hans was in a distant corner reading a book. Cosmos was in a corner, sitting on his haunches with his eyes closed and a calm smile on his face.
"They seem not to mind it."
"Oh, they do." Adamaius said, looking at them both, "People always get on their nerves if they are stuck too long. The guys are feeling some of the pressure from being in here, they just hide it better. Well, Cosmos might be okay, because he is all Zen and enlightened, but the other guys definitely are feeling some pressure, and don't try and tell me that you two aren't getting nervous from being stuck in here all the time."
Spyro and Cynder were not very sure about this. The other purple dragons all seemed to be okay, even Allisandra, who was scrubbing her lance with a little bit of an exaggerated intensity. However, the purple dragons had to admit one thing: they didn't quite liked being stuck in the place.
They had not been allow to exit ever since day one. They were hardly even allow close to the windows, and that was something that was starting to bother them. Spyro and Cynder wanted to get out. They wanted to feel the sun on their scales and the wind on their wings.
They wanted to go outside and take a look on the city of Warfang, to see how much it had actually changed with time. They wanted to go out and socialized with other dragons.
Cynder, in particular, really wanted to be let out of there.
"We should leave." She said, causing the others on the table to look at her.
"We should take this day to go around the town and spread our legs and wings a while."
"Cynder!" Spyro said.
"What a great idea!" Adamaius said, with feigned excitement, which vanished quickly. "Just one problem: the guards won't let us outside."
Cynder looked at him, and she smiled.
At that moment, Spyro wasn't sure what scared him the most, Cynder's smile, or the words she said next:
"I have a plan."
So, this concludes this chapter, hope you have enjoyed.
The idea for Adamaius' background came from Killua Zoldyck, from the anime "Hunter x Hunter". The idea for the sonic showers was copied from "Star Trek", in case you don't know.
Also, the phrases that Shiryu says are in Japanese, and you can see what they mean on the online google translator.
