Author's Note: I took a couple liberties with FBI procedure to make the story work better. (Don't own anything related to the show)

Chapter Seven

1:30 P.M.

FBI war room….

Don and Colby were still going through potential suspects when the mail arrived and Megan got all of their mail and found something strange in one of the packages.

'That's strange,' She thought to herself, 'It's not addressed to anyone in particular and there is no return address.'

Don noticed her puzzled look at the package she was holding and went over, concerned as to what it could be.

"Something wrong with the package?" He asked

"That's the thing, I don't know, as it's not addressed to anyone here and there is no return address." She told him

"I think we should take it to security, just in case." Don said, before Megan stopped him

"I don't think it's something like that, but maybe we should talk to Merrick before we even think about what is in the package."

"Okay, I'll hold off until we find out more." Don said, though still he wondered why she didn't want to take to security.

"Megan…"

"Look Don, I know that it might be something suspicious but security personnel are in training today so we wouldn't be able to do so anyway."

"I thought there was backup personnel while the main ones were doing the training." Don said

"I saw them dealing with someone who was trying to get into the FBI building without an ID, so it will be a little before they would be able to do anything else." Megan answered, "You and Colby just didn't hear anything about it because they took the guy into interrogation and you two were still working the case."

"Ok, I'll call Merrick and we will head to his office if he is available." Don said, as he went to his phone to call the Director.

"Colby, find anything new?" Megan asked.

"Yeah, Mark Walaker and Agent Lorenson knew each other in high school due to Lorenson being there for a year due to her father's military deployment to South Dakota and going to the same high school."

"How well did they know each other at the time?" Don asked after finishing his phone call with Merrick.

"Well enough that they continued to correspondent with each other when Sofia transferred to a new school at the end of freshman year to Minnesota." Colby said with a knowing look.

"Did they still talk to each other after high school?" Don asked

"From what I can tell, they still talk occasionally, last having talked was about several months ago, before they were killed along with Agent Menendez." Colby said

"What about Menedez's connections to them? Did he know them besides any cases with them or have any of the same friends and acquaintances as any of the other two?"

"He and Lorensen worked on several cases but those don't mean much with ours since those were mainly procedures and the people involved don't have the resources and/or the loyalty of some to go after them." Colby said

"How about personally?" Don asked, as he looked through his notes

"Dead end, as the two have had a purely professional relationship and, besides the occasional email due to a case, there has been nothing between Lorensen and Menendez." Colby said

"How about him and Walaker?" Megan asked

"I had better luck there, as after one of the cases they worked on together, they emailed each other and continued to work together, and formed a friendship." Colby said.

"Anything else?"

"That's all I got now, but I will continue to look for any other links." Colby answered

"That's a good start thanks." Megan said before she turned to Don, "Is Merrick ready to meet with us?"

"Yes, he wants us to meet with him now and that a specialist will have a look at the package before someone opens it."

"We head out now, need any help Colby?" Megan asked

"I'm good, see you guys later." Colby said, wondering what was with the package and why would someone send it to no one in particular.
