Klaus made his way through the throng of people enjoying their day at the beach and stormed directly up to Dave, arms crossed. For his part, Dave hadn't seen him coming and looked up in surprise where he'd been kneeling helping a little kid pick out a tiny shovel and bucket. He grinned in greeting when he spotted him, eyebrow raised when he saw his grim expression. Klaus waited patiently, not at all endeared by how soft Dave was with the kid until he could finally get away from customers.
"What's that look for?"
"So, who the hell are you, anyway?" Klaus demanded.
"Uh, Dave, remember? Dave Katz. This isn't the first time we've met." Dave glanced around nervously, and Klaus continued quickly, not wanting him to think he was about to reveal his secret or anything.
"And why, exactly, was last night so fun?"
"Oh good, here I thought I'd done something wrong," Dave laughed.
That didn't really answer his question, but then, there was no real way Dave could guess what he was really getting at. He wasn't really angry, he had just let himself be open in a way he didn't think he'd ever really been, and that scared him. But Dave was so open too, so easy to read, it was hard to think he was doing anything intentionally nefarious. Klaus would just have to be cautious.
"Same time tonight?" he asked, because he really did have fun. He hadn't stopped thinking about the things they'd talked about, or how Dave's hand had felt in his own.
"I can swing that," Dave said with a soft smile. No one had ever smiled at him like that before.
"Good," was all Klaus could really say in response. He really wanted this conversation directed at anything other than himself. "Just a heads up, the back right tent pole isn't in all the way. It'd be a shame if someone didn't do something about that."
"Oh," Dave exclaimed, looking back over his shoulder.
That part of the tent was dedicated to a little office-like setup where a man, presumably the boss, was currently sleeping, leaning back in his chair with a newspaper over his face. Klaus patted Dave on the shoulder and headed off, leaving him to cause some chaos.
