Chapter 8 Things Don't Go As Planned.

Loki didn't think it was possible to be as happy as he felt right now; he was King of Asgard at the moment, Thor was stuck on Midgard, and the love of his life was lying next to him peacefully sleeping. Not much more he could want. Loki turned his head and looked at Saphira; she was lying on her side facing him, her arm was barely lying around his waist, she had fallen asleep snuggled to him, but had moved a little during the night. Saphira was sleeping in one of Loki's pajama tops, his black silk one; it was the top to the bottoms Loki was wearing; taken from him once again, Loki smiled and reached over and pushed Saphira's hair out of her face.

Some people might not understand how he and Saphira could still be so much in love after spending so much time apart, but they were, and Loki had been worried about how Saphira would take him being a Frost Gaint. He should have known it wouldn't have bothered her. Saphira has always accepted him for who he was, never tried to change him; one of the things that were so wonderful about her. Saphira was the first person outside his family he ever told about his female form, about being genderfluid, and she accepted that. But still, he didn't know what he would have done if he had lost her over being jotuun. He doesn't have to worry over that now, though. Saphira has helped him with accepting everything, he still had his nightmare sometimes, but she was always there to comfort him when he wakes, and she reminded him every day, he was still him, the same Loki he's always been.

Loki wasn't sure what was keeping him awake; he didn't feel sleepy, maybe it was because he had a lot on his mind, or the fact tomorrow Loki and Saphira were going to lore Laufey here to kill him; Loki didn't know, didn't worry too much about it, sitting up all night wasn't new to Loki, when he was younger; Loki would get caught up reading and never get to bed; after Saphira had to leave Asgard, Loki sat up at night missing her, and rereading the letters Saphira sent him. When Loki found out about who he was, he had a hard time sleeping with that on his mind. Not to mention when he did sleep, he had nightmares about it.

"You know, watching me sleep is a little creepy." Saphira suddenly mumbled, then opened her eyes and smiled at him, "Why are you awake?" She moved closer to him and tightened her hold to his waist.

"Just not sleepy, darling," Loki said, putting his arm around her.

"Are you worried about tomorrow?" Saphira asked.

"No, sweetheart, just too much on my mind, I think," Loki answered.

"Well, I am too sleepy to think about anything," Saphira said, then yawned.

"Then go back to sleep, love," Loki told her as Saphira snuggled to him and closed her eyes.

"I love you, handsome," Saphira said.

"And I love you, beautiful," Loki told her, smiling a little.

Saphira's slow, steady breathing told Loki she had fallen back to sleep. After a few more minutes of not being able to fall asleep himself, Loki decided he needed to get up for a bit; he was tired of just lying there. So, he carefully slipped out from under Saphira and carefully got out of bed; then he stood there a moment smiling down at her. Moonlight shining in from a window shinned on her copper hair, making it look like it was glowing. She looked so peaceful and beautiful. What she saw in him, he'd never know.

Remembering what Saphira said about him watching her, Loki turned away; and went over and sat down in a chair; his eyes went to the table sitting next to it, sitting on it was two small photographs Saphira had sent him of her from Midgard, one taken many years ago when she had won an acting award, an Oscar, Loki believed she called it, the second was a photo that was newer than that one, but still from years ago. Saphira had won some beauty pageant, she looked gorgeous in both pictures, and Loki had loved looking at them when Saphira was still on Midgard.

Lying in front of the pictures was the weird device Saphira had brought with her from Midgard, she called it a smartphone, Saphira had played with it until its battery went dead; Loki picked it up and looked at it, then had a thought, he laid his other hand over it, and the light glowed green for a moment. When he pulled his hand away from the device, it popped on, and Loki was staring at a picture of a black cat. He had put some of his magical energy into the machine, so it should never go dead.

Loki grinned and sat back and started fooling around on the phone, trying to figure the thing out; he touched the tiny camera at the bottom of the screen and was suddenly looking at pictures; the first one was him sitting on the throne, Gungnir in his hand, he wasn't sure when Saphira took it, but she also had pictures of him and her together, one of Saphira and Frigga, then Loki asleep in bed, Heimdall down on the rainbow bridge, after that one it was all older ones, Enid was on it (her hair a lot shorter than she wore it on Asgard) some of Saphira. Many cat pictures, including lions, some of the other animals, and plants, the last photo was of Saphira holding up a winning hand in cards.

Loki flipped back through the photos, again, thinking about how if his plan worked tomorrow, then Odin would have to see him just as good as Thor, if not better, then one day he may be King for good; Loki smiled as he thought about Saphira becoming Queen. Unlike Odin, he would make sure there was a throne next to his for her. They would rule Asgard together as a team. Like they were doing now. All of Asgard would have to respect them, respect him then. And if Thor wants to come back, he'll let him, mainly cause Saphira would like to have her sister with her, but he'll have to respect and listen to Loki, like his King, not little brother, but finally his equal, if not above him.

Loki propped his elbow on the chair arm and put his head in his hand, getting lost in his thoughts and not noticing that Saphira had woken again and walked over to him, so when Saphira ran her hand through his hair, Loki jumped a little startled.

"Oops, sorry, baby," Saphira said. "Didn't realize you hadn't noticed me."

"What are you doing up, darling?" Loki asked, holding his hand out to her.

"The bed gets too warm when you are not lying next to me," Saphira answered as she sat down in Loki's lap. "Besides, I should be asking you that "

"Just could not lay there any longer," Loki answered, putting his arm around Saphira's waist. She frowned at her phone in Loki's hand.

"Are we being nosey?" She teased; taking her phone out of his hand, she brought the camera back up and held it out. "Smile," She said before taken a photo. "We are the best looking gods in all of Asgard."

"I disagree. You are the most beautiful in any of the realms." Loki told her.

"You are too," Saphira said. "How did you get this to turn on anyway? The battery was dead?"

"Magic." Loki winked at her; Saphira smiled at him and stood up; he watched as she got on her phone, done something on it, then sat it on the table, and music started coming from it, then she reached her hand out to Loki.

"May I have this dance?" Saphira asked. Loki raised his eyebrow at her, then grinned and took Saphira's hand and stood; Saphira led him away from the chair, put one hand on Loki's shoulder, and her other one in his hand, as Loki laid his other hand on her waist, Saphira and Loki began to slow dance, grinning at each other.

Loki laid his forehead against Saphira's as he looked into her eyes; there wasn't anyone in the whole galaxy he loved more than her. It always amazed him to see that same love for him in her eyes every time she looked at him; Loki honestly believes that the only one who he can trust, only one who understands him, who doesn't judge him, to love him for him, the only person ever to give a damn about him, was in his arms right now, dancing with him, to some Midgardain song singing about it almost being paradise.

Saphira laughed as Loki twirled her around, then she laughed more as he dipped her. When she raised back up, they just stared at each other a moment before kissing. When they broke apart, Saphira laid her head on Loki's shoulder, and they stood there holding each other for a long moment.

After their dance Loki led her back to the chair, Saphira picked up her phone and sat back down in Loki's lap, then snuggled into him and starting playing her favorite game on her phone, Plants VS Zombies. Loki watched the game for a while, then, understanding what you were supposed to do, started getting into it too.

At some point, Loki somehow ended up with the phone playing the game, Saphira smiled as she snuggled into him, her eyes closed, and she soon fell back to sleep for the second time. After a while, Loki set the phone aside and carefully picked Saphira up as he stood and laid her in bed, then covered her up before going around to his side of the bed and lying down. He then put his arm around Saphira's side and snuggled to her; it wasn't long until Loki, too, finally fell asleep.

The next day Loki was out on his balcony, already dressed in his armor, looking out at Asgard, waiting for Saphira to get dressed, so they could go through their plan to kill Laufey

"So, how do I look?" Saphira asked from behind him; Loki turned around to look; Saphira had on light blue trousers that had pink flames going up the leg, trimmed in silver; diamond sets were inside the sliver outline, she wore matching armbands, top and boots, and had chosen to wear her hair pulled back in a ponytail. The light blue made her eyes stand out. And it was hard for Loki not to stand there and stare into them.

"You look beautiful, darling. " Loki answered. Saphira smiled.

"I was going for looking badass, but...okay." Saphira joked. Loki smirked.

"You look like a warrior," Loki replied. "That better?" Saphira rolled her eyes with a smile, which turned into a laugh when Loki put his arm around her waist and pulled her to him. Saphira reached up lightly tapped on one of the horns on Loki's helmet.

"Must you wear this thing? The horns always annoyed me." Saphira said. Loki only grinned as he leaned in and kissed her; as they kissed, a bright light stunned from down below, they broke the kiss and looked.

"Is that the Bifrost?" Saphira asked, pointing towards it.

"Those bastards," Loki swore, then turned and took Saphira's hand and led her back into his room, and toward the door, Loki led her out of the room and down the corridor; he stopped outside the vault and asked Saphira to wait in the hall for him; Loki was only in there a few minutes before coming back out and take hold of Saphira's hand and leading her towards the Bifrost.

"I had a feeling you would be showing up here," Heimdall said as they walked up to him.

"Did I not tell you just yesterday that no one leaves without my say?" Loki demanded.

"Tell me, Loki, how did you let the Frost Giants in," Heimdall asked instead of answering Loki's question.

"There are ways of traveling through the realms that even you, with all your gifts, can not see," Loki said, letting go of Saphira's hand. "Of which as King, I no longer need the use of, and for your act of treason are relived from your gatekeeper duty and no longer a citizen of Asgard."

"Then, I no longer need to obey your orders," Heimdall said. He pulled out his sword, but Loki was quick, and as he brought the blade down, Loki was suddenly holding the Casket of Winters and froze Heimdall in place; his sword fell from his hands.

"Loki," Saphira said, taking a step back; Loki looked around at her, with his red eyes, face blue. Saphira looked from Heimdall to Loki in surprise.

"Darling, you know, you do not need to fear me, " Loki said, holding a blue hand out to her. "On my life, I swear, I will never harm you."

"I know that baby," Saphira said, taking his hand. "I'm not scared, just surprised...Heimdall."

"I hated doing it, love," Loki said. "But he gave me no choice, do not worry, he should be fine once; he melts." Loki looked back at Heimdall and added. "I think."

"I hope so." Saphira frowned as she looked at Heimdall.

"Come on, darling; we must go ahead with our plane before those idiots get back with Thor," Loki said, leading her over to the thing that opened the Bifrost; he let go of Saphira's hand long enough to stick the Bifrost sword into it, the Bifrost opened up, and after a moment, Laufey and four frost giants walked in.

"Welcome to Agard." Loki grinned, he then grabbed Saphira's hand and turned and headed down the bridge; with two of the jotuun staying behind, the palace grew colder as Loki led them toward Odin's sleep chambers, Loki and Saphira somehow ended up behind Laufey and the other two as they opened the door to the sleep chamber and walked in.

The room was empty except for the sleeping Odin; as they all gathered into the place, Loki was relieved that his mother wasn't here at the moment, but that relief turned to anger when one of the jotuun stepped up behind Saphira and reached around her and grabbed her neck with his giant hand, ready to either choke her or break it, Saphira went to grab his arm, but stopped, this jotuun wasn't Loki, so, she didn't want to take a chance of touching him, not knowing if it would hurt her or not.

"Let her go." Loki cried and took a step toward them but was stopped by Laufey grabbing his arm. Loki glared at him. "Hurting her was not a part of our deal, only Odin."

"Oh, I will not hurt your little elf," Laufey said. "But if this is a trick and you double-cross me, he will." he then let go of Loki's arm; turned to Odin's sleeping form, and walked toward it; Loki looked at Saphira, feeling angry and fearful for her safety. Loki turned toward Laufey, who had his back turned to him, then back to the two jotuun then without anyone seeing, he made one of his daggers magically appear in Saphira's back pocket, then turned around to Laufey and walked around the other side of Odin, as Laufey was talking to his sleeping form, and started rambling nonsense to Odin.

Loki gripped Gungnir in his hands, looked at Saphira, and gave her a wink; as he raised it and pointed toward Laufey, Saphira's hands suddenly turned hot as she reached up and touched the jotuun's arm with both, he cried out in pain and stumbled back, making him let go of Saphira. Laufey looked up, confused, as she pulled the dagger out of her back pocket and turned around, manipulating the air a little so she can jump up and slice his throat; the jotuun fell to the ground dead, just as Loki blasted Laufey away from Odin.

The one remaining jotuun stepped toward him, making Saphira jump into action. First, she threw a fireball at him; catching him on fire, she then ran forward, used the side of Odin's bed as a springboard and did a turn in mid-air, and came back down and drove the dagger through the jotuun's neck; he stumbled then fall dead.

Loki grinned at her when she looked toward him; then he turned to Laufey, who laid on the ground and finished him off with one blast after announcing himself a son of Odin. Saphira waved her hand, and the fire went out, just as Frigga and a couple of guards came running into the room. Frigga looked around, then glanced at Odin before running to Loki and hugged him.

"You saved him." Frigga cried before anyone could say anything else. Thor appeared, and Frigga ran to him, happy to see her eldest son, who glared at Loki over their mother's shoulder as he hugged her back.

"Loki," Thor snapped, gently pulling away from Frigga. "Have you told Mother about sending the destroyer to kill our friends...to kill me...to kill Enid?"

"What?" Frigga demanded, looking at Loki.

"No," Saphira denied, "Loki wouldn't hurt Enid. He has no reason to." Loki looked at Saphira; she looked at him with a confused, hurt expression on her face. Then turned back to Thor. "Was Enid hurt?"

"No, she is fine. I talked her into staying on Midgard to watch over it until I return." Thor answered. "But Enid is fine." Saphira sighed in relief.

"Darling, I swear I told it not to harm your sister," Loki swore. Saphira turned back to him and looked his face over, then nodded.

"I believe you," Saphira said after a moment.

"Well, I do not," Thor said.

"That is your problem, Thor," Loki said. "Now, if you will excuse me, I have to destroy Jotunheim."

He took Gungnir and suddenly blasted Thor out of the palace, then reached his hand out to Saphira, she took it, and Loki turned and headed out of the room, Saphira walking beside him, gripping his hand tightly. Loki let go of her hand and instead wrapped his arm around her waist, and they both disappeared to reappear on the rainbow bridge.

"Would you like to help?" Loki asked, letting go of Saphira's waist and walking over to the Bifrost; Saphira looked Loki over, then after a moment, nodded her head and walked up to the sword, and gripped it next to Loki's hands, together they put it in the machine and turned it, then stepped back as the Bifrost opened up. An ice-like tree thing grew around it; at that moment, Thor appeared.

"You are too late." Loki announced, walking around Saphira to get closer to Thor, "The Bifrost will build until it rips Jotunheim apart," Thor rushed forward and raised Mjolnir, but Loki blasted him away with Gungnir.

"Why are you doing this?" Thor demanded after getting back up.

"To prove to Father, I am a worthy son," Loki said. "When he wakes, I will have saved his life; Saphira and I will have destroyed that race of monsters, and I will be the true heir to the throne, and Saphira will be my queen."

"You can not kill an entire race," Thor demanded.

"Why not?" Loki demanded. Thor turned to Saphira.

"Saphira, you can not truly be going along with this?" Thor said, "Please, try to talk some sense into my brother."

"Were you not the one not too long ago who marched into Jontunheim and started a war?" Loki demanded," You could kill them all with your bare hands."

"My banishment has changed me," Thor said. "I realized I was wrong; I learned from my mistake." Loki rolled his eyes. Then glared at Thor when he turned back to Saphira to plead with her once again.

"Saphira, please, Loki has always usually listened to you." Thor begin. "This is insane; it is murder; please get him to stop."

"Stop trying to turn her against me," Loki demanded. "Fight me!"

"I am not going to fight you, brother," Thor replied.

"I'm not your brother," Loki said. "I never was."

"This is madness." Thor cried," You will kill a whole race just to be king?"

"I never wanted the throne; I only wanted to be your equal! But I was never good enough, couldn't compare to you, you the firstborn, his real son, always second best to you." Loki yelled. "Now, I have a chance to prove myself to be better than you.".

Loki raised Gungnir and ran toward Thor, who blocked Loki's attack with Mjolnir; they both fell back. Thor, mad about Loki's attack, got up, twirling the hammer around, and then held it out forward, flying towards Loki.

"Loki!" Saphira cried and pushed Loki out of the way, but she didn't have time to move out of the way herself, as she first felt Mjolnir hit her on the head. Seconds later, crashing through the golden wall, then slamming down on the rainbow bridge, and bouching a bit, Thor went flying off her and landed a few feet away, slid before coming to a stop, as Saphira rolled over on her side and didn't move.

At first, Thor didn't know it had been Saphira instead of Loki; he crashed through the wall until he rose and saw Saphira lying out cold on her side. Thor's eyes widened, and he rushed to her to check on her; he pushed her hair from her face to see blood, then looked down at Mjolnir in his hand to see a little bit of blood on top.

"Saphira?" Thor asked, reaching out and laying a hand on her shoulder.

"Do not touch her!" Loki cried, running up to them; he shoved Thor away from her and dropped to his knees next to Saphira's unmoving form. He took his helmet off and tossed it; it slid across the bridge and over the side. He then gathered Saphira in his arms.

"Brother, it was an accident...I" Thor was at a loss for words. He just watched Loki as he laid Saphira in his lap.

"Saphira, darling, can you hear me?" Loki asked, laying his hand on her cheek. "Please, wake up and say something, please." When she said nothing, nor did she move, Loki kissed her cheek, then hugged her to him and glared up at Thor with pure hatred and anger on his face. "You did this."

"Brother, I am sorry; it was an accident," Thor said. Loki was too angry to notice the guilt and worry on Thor's face.

"You did this!" Loki yelled again, "You hurt her!"

"Loki?" Saphira asked; Loki had never felt so relieved to hear her voice or when he looked back down at Saphira to see her beautiful blue eyes looking up at him; they were glossy looking, and she was confused but awake and talking. "Why are?... My head hurts."

"Saphira," Thor said and took a step toward her. " I'm so sorry."

"Do not come near her," Loki demanded. He gently let go of Saphira and stood, picking up Gungnir as he did so. "Do not look at her; do not talk to her, do not even say her name, not after what you just did."

"Loki," Saphira asked; she reached out for him, but he didn't see her. He was too busy glaring at Thor as he stepped in front of Saphira as if to protect her from his brother.

"You have to know it was an accident. I would not purposely hurt Saphira." Thor said, "She is my friend."

Loki let out an angry cry, lifting Gungnir and rushing forward; Thor was ready and blocked the blow; they went back and forth for a few minutes, trying to get the better of each other.

"Loki, Thor...stop..please." Saphira cried, her head hurt; she was confused, and every time she tried to stand, she felt too dizzy to do so; Saphira felt helpless as she watched the once close brothers fight

Loki came at Thor with Gungnir; Thor ducked and tossed Mjolnir at Loki, it hit his armor, making Loki fall backward, Gungnir flying from his hand. Thor held out his hand and called his hammer back to him. He then walked toward Loki with it.

"Loki." Saphira cried, "Please, Thor, don't hurt him." She held onto her head and tried to stand, but all Thor did was sit Mjolnir on Loki's chest so he couldn't move, then stood and walked toward the Bifrost. Saphira crawled over to Loki and tried to help him left the hammer off him but couldn't move it. Everything felt like it was spinning, and she could feel blood running down her face but ignored it, trying to concentrate on what was happening around her.

"You're too late!" Loki yelled tauntingly. "Look at you, the mighty Thor, and what good does it do you now?"

"Loki, please, stop." Saphira cried; he looked up at her; Loki didn't like how she was looking; Mjolnir had to have given her a bad concussion. "Please, my head...it hurts."

Loki reached up and laid his hand across her forehead. Saphira closed her eyes and signed in relief; Loki had his hand colder than usual, and the coldness was helping her pounding head, almost like an ice pack

"I never met for you to get hurt." Loki told her, "You are my world." Saphira opened her eyes and smiled down at Loki.

"You are my world too," Saphira told him, laying her hand on his chest. Loki barely noticed Mjolnir had left him until he heard it slamming onto the bridge; both Loki and Saphira looked to see Thor hammering the Bifrost with it.

"What are you doing?" Loki demanded, dropping his hand from Saphira's forehead and raising. "You break the Bifrost; you will never see Enid again."

"Thor," Saphira said, finally able to stumble to her feet. "Don't; my sister is still on Midgard." Thor ignored them both and kept on hammering. "You can't break the Bifrost, dumbass; Enid will be stranded on Earth alone." Thor stopped and looked at Saphira.

"I hope she can forgive me, but I have no choice," Thor said. He then turned back to the Bifrost and raised Mjolnir; Saphira rushed forward and grabbed his arm; Thor tried gently to get her to let go, not wanting to hurt her farther, but Saphira, already being dizzy, stumbled and fall, Loki shouted at him, grabbed Gungnir and charged at Thor, who raised his hammer to protect himself, lightning and magic blasted from each weapon, hitting together, it went into the air and came back down, striking the bridge, the bridge blew up, water and glass flying in the air, the Bifrost machine broke, top spun around then everything stopped.

Saphira, who was very close to the edge, slowly stood then stumbled as she was still dizzy, her foot slipped, she lost her balance and went falling off the bridge.

"Saphira!" Loki cried out, rushing forward; he grabbed her arm, turned sideways to toss Saphira back up on the bridge; his foot slip, Loki lost his balance, and his eyes widened, and as Saphira slammed down on the bridge, Loki went falling over the edge into the void below.

"Brother!" Thor cried, making it to the edge and reaching for his brother, but it was too late; Loki was already out of reach, then out of sight, disappearing into the darkness.

"Nooo," Saphira yelled; she stood, and if it hadn't been for Thor grabbing her and pulling her back, she would have jumped off after Loki.

Saphira would have fought him off, but everything started spinning more; her eyes suddenly rolled in the back of her head, and her knees buckled; she would have fallen if it hadn't been for Thor catching her; he put his arm under her knees and picked her up, turned back towards the palace to get her help, only to run into Odin, now awake and fully dressed in his armor.

"What happened?" Odin demanded; he glanced at Saphira in Thor's arms, then looked back up at him. "Where is Loki?"

"You should have treated us the same." That was all Thor said, and without another word, he walked past him towards the palace; Saphira needed a healer badly.

After everything Loki had done, the lies, the schemes, the backstabbing, in the end, he gave his life to save someone he loved, and Thor would be damned if that sacrifice was in vain; the two people Thor always cared most about cared deeply for the unconscious women in his arms, and because Thor felt that all this was partly his fault, he vowed to look after Saphira for both Enid and especially Loki.

AN If anyone is reading this and wondering, yes, Loki did tell the destroyer not to hurt Enid, he did it for Saphira; even though she's more of a villain and Enid a good guy, she still loves her sister, they fight, but are still close, like normal siblings.

I don't think I put a time skip in this chapter when this happens, and Loki and Saphira went to Jotunhaim, so we'll say about two weeks passed.

I heard on something that the Thor movie was supposed to all be happening over one weekend, but mine it's longer; Saphira was on Asgard with Loki from early August to about the beginning of December, so around four months. I decided to have Loki accidentally falling Saphira; I know movie he purposely let go, but since he had Saphira standing by him and helping him accept everything, I couldn't see him trying to kill himself, plus he wouldn't hurt Saphira like that.
