Chapter 8: Exodus 20:16

I had been sitting in this tub for the past two hours. Reheating it when the water hand went cold. I was avoiding the Miko. She had had nothing but questions since she had woken up. She wanted answers that I could not provide her. I pinched the bridge of my nose. This was supposed to be a simple game between me and my old man. Now it has become something much more.

"The Goddess of creation of death," I said out loud to myself.

I groaned dragging my hand across my face. I couldn't tell her about this not yet. Not until I had more information. How was it possible that there were other Gods? Is this why their father tried to take her? How did he know they existed? How did he know about her? So many questions and not one answer. Never in all of my thousands of years have I ever been so out of the loop. I let out a deep sigh, arising out of the tub. I stepped out wrapping the towel around my waist. I pushed open the bathroom door, seeing her sitting on the bed. Her hand chained to the wall. With a much stronger chain this time. I had the maids bathe and bring her to my room. I could not leave her alone after the stunt my father had pulled. She sat there on the bed, with her knees pulled to her chest; sulking as if she was some child. Our eyes met for a brief moment before she noticed the state of my dress. I grinned seeing it made her blush. She quickly looked away, trying to avert her gaze out the window. With this recent stress, I had come under. I decided that I should have a bit of fun. I went over to her, towering over her. Droplets of water falling from me dropped on her skin. She turned to me with the full intent of telling me off. I could tell, but instead, she was stunned. Possibly by me, definitely by the closeness. I could feel her shallow breaths on my chin. Her doe-like eyes were wide with shock. His damp hair still clinging to her. One would go as far as to say that she was quite attractive for a mortal.

I grinned, not moving away. "Are you alright Miko? You seem to have lost your tongue." I whispered.

The nerve of him having me dragged here. Not to mention chained a wall; again! I sat there sulking staring up at the moon. It was fake but it sure looked real. I heard the door open, my head snapping in its direction. I was ready to give him a piece of my mind, but then the cat had got my tongue; or more like a dog. He stood there dripping wet with nothing on but a towel. I met his eyes for just a second and I looked away not even a second later; staring out the window. I could hear his feet tapping against the floor. The next thing I knew is that he was towering over me, his face only an inch away from my own. I could see his eyes lingering all over my face.

He smiled. "Are you alright Miko? You seem to have lost your tongue." He whispered.

I clenched my jaw. I cocked back my arm and thrust it forward. He caught the punch with ease. A look of shock on his face. Looking at my fist in his hand then back up at me.

"What do you think you are doing?"

I snatched my hand away from him. "Don't yell at me, and me! What are you doing!? Did you have me brought here so you could have your way with me?"

"My way with you?" He sighed. "Are you out of your mind? I just wanted to have a bit of fun."

I threw the pillow at him. "I do not want to have that kind of fun; or any kind of fun and especially not with you!"

I slid off the bed and went over to the corner, and sitting down. I heard something hit the floor. I looked and it was a towel. I could hear him getting into the bed, but I didn't dare look.

"Did you find what you were looking for in my memories today?" I asked, trying to ease the awkward tension.

There was a slight pause. "No. Nothing yet."

"I see," I said under my breath.

I kept my eyes closed leaning my head against the wall. I could feel the sleep taking over. I drifted off into a peaceful sleep. The last thing I heard was scuffling sounds.

I stretched limbs rolling onto my back. My eyes cracking open, slightly squinting at the faux sunlight. I sat up and straight and that is when I realized that I wasn't in the corner. Nor, was I chained to the wall. How did I get on the bed, and who put me here? I looked around the room and Sesshomaru was nowhere to be seen. Only a single note sat beside me. I picked it up and it read,

"I have a business to attend to today. Make yourself scarce."

I scoffed. "Jerk," I mumbled.

I took a step out of bed and as if on cue the door opened. The maid who had attended to me before came in.

"Good morning my lady. My name is Sango and starting today I was appointed your head maid, by his highness. I am at your service."

I went over to her holding out my head. "My name is Kagome, not my lady. So, please use it."

She shook her head. "I'm sorry, that is not allowed, my lady."

"Well, you're job is to help me right? So, could you please maybe try to be a little less formal and possibly even be my friend? I could use one of those right now." I said honestly.

Yet again she shook her head. Not taking my outstretched hand. I sighed dropping my hand to my side. I guess it was going to take some time for her to warm up to me. I had time; who knew when I was going to get out of here?

"Okay, fine. Instead of a dress and corset, I would like some pants." Her eyes went wide."

"Buy his highness-"

"Ordered you to aid me. Correct? So, I would like some pants. With a shirt that I can breathe in. Thank you"

She bowed and ran off to go find what it was I asked for. I felt bad, but I couldn't survive another day in a corset or those shoes. Moments later she returned huffing and puffing. A pair of pants and a blouse in hand. I took them from her.

"Thank you, that's all."

"You misunderstand." She said between breaths." I am to help you get dressed.

I sighed. "Fine could you pass me that?" I asked her.

The moment she turned around I ran into the bathroom, locking it behind me. I wasn't a child I did not need someone to dress me. I quickly threw on the clothes. Opening the door to find a bothered young woman staring back at me.

I flipped my hair over my shoulder. "Let's go, shall we," I said with a smile.

An hour had gone past, and I still had yet to see Sesshomaru. Not that I was looking for him, but I wanted to know why she lied to me last night when I asked him if he had found out anything. Besides, I had a babysitter I could not get rid of and the workers in the palace stared even harder than when they had first seen me. Being given a tore of this place tiring. I wanted to go home. I didn't want to be here. I didn't want to have this stupid power. I just wanted to be normal. Here I was just a prisoner. I couldn't even give her the slip either. After that bathroom trick I had pulled earlier she was watching me like a hawk. I had o figure out a way to get out of here. I asked her if we would be able to visit the town; she said no. I wanted to go outside but still be on palace grounds; she said no. Even when I said that I wanted to be alone in my room; again she said no. Everything was no. I had to be watched at all times. I could feel myself starting to get angry again. I tried to push it down, keep it hidden away, but that only made things worse. My anger had graduated to fury. I spun around on my heel after we had turned the corner, looking her straight in the eye, and said one simple one.

"Stop."

And stop she did. It was as though she had just shut down. She didn't move, she didn't blink; she just stood there. Even then my fury didn't subside. I had gotten close enough to her so that no one would be able to hear what I was saying to her.

"You will leave me alone, and do not come back unless I look for you. I do not need you as a baby sitter. I do not care what his highness says."

I had expected her to tell me off. To tell me that she only followed his orders and no one else's. However, to my surprise, she turned and just walked away. I blinked, staring at the spot where she had just stood.

Why did she listen to me?

I look down at my hand, seeing the white begin to fade away.

Did this power have something to do with it?

Whatever had caused it I was going to stay here and find out. I continued to run down the large corridor. Trying my best to evade the workers that were there. Until I heard a very familiar voice. It was Sesshomaru. I looked at the window. I couldn't jump out because there was no way to open it. I couldn't go back the way I came. The only option I had was a door that sat awkwardly out of place. It was old and wooden, it didn't t look like it belonged. Beggars could not be choosers, I opened it slipping inside. Soon after hearing Sesshomaru pass by. I let out a sigh of relief I didn't know that I had been holding. I turned to see exactly what this room was. It was a library; a very large one at that. I ran my finger across the table. It was so clean, but it looked as though no one had touched this place in years. I ventured further into the library, coming to an empty table with an open book.

Was there someone in here?

I flipped the book over, looking at the cover. The cover read, the year 2020 death records. I looked over at the bookcase, reading their spines. This one started in the year 1900, with one space. I assumed it was for the book that I was holding.

"This is how they kept track of all of the people who died," I said out loud.

A familiar sense of guilt and sadness washed over me. I remembered all of the people who had died because I had pushed Sesshomaru too far. I knew I shouldn't have looked, but my curiosity got the better of me. I flipped it open trying to find them; the people who had lost their lives because of me. I read through the book. The date, time, place, and what killed them were all listed. I read on until there were no more names.

"This can't be it. I'm only halfway through the book."

There wasn't any mention of anyone dying from any kind of devastation. No earthquakes, no fires, no tsunamis. Only old age, murder, and other normal things would cause one's life to end.

"This makes no sense."

"What exactly do you think you are doing?"

"You are egotistical, bothersome, mean, and a dick but I never pegged you for a liar," I said holding up the book.

He narrowed his eyes at me. "Excuse me."

I folded my arms. "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor."

"Do not quote exodus to me. What is it that you think you know, and why the hell are you alone?"

"I know that you have lied to me twice now. I'm alone because I told her to go away and she did."

He grabbed a chair sitting opposite of me. "That's impossible Sango would not disobey me."

"Well, she did. Do avoid my question." I told him.

"Why did she listen to you?"

I scowled. "Answer my question and I will answer yours. I want to know what happened. Why is there no record of the people who died on that day."

"You do not get to negotiate with me woman."

"Then I will not tell you how I made her leave."

He groaned while rolling his eyes. "This is going to be a long day." He mumbled.

I leaned forward. "Start talking." I'd said.

He was going to answer. I had information that he wanted, and this was the only way to get it.
