Newt's classes had been a hit among the students. From first to seventh years, all loved going to defense, including my fellow Slytherins. Newt didn't only teach magical defense. Through his experience with war, he proved to everyone that knowing muggle defense may save their lives. The other Slytherins put up a fight, but Newt eventually won them over.
In the meantime, my friend group became popular. We were known as The Pack, as we fully supported inter house unity. I had been teaching my friends some of the stuff I had learnt in auror training. Bella wanted to be a duelist, Dora a spell crafter, Alice and Melia aurors. Me, I wanted to be an Unspeakable. While Bella wasn't in the group, I still spent a lot of time with her, and consider her my best friend
I had finished writing my book, and had sent it to the publishing place Newt sent his to. I had been planning a fancy gala for the official publishing of the book which would take place over Yule. Bella had sent letters to her aunt, Walburga Black and mother, Druella Black nee' Rosier asking for help with the planning. Over Yule break, which started three days before Yule, I would go meet Walburga and Druella in person.
The invitations were sent to all the publishing agencies, my family and friends, ministry employees, and foreign diplomats. The color scheme was the same as the color of the book, and the event was being payed for with money from my trust vault. My friends and I have written speeches, mine explaining the book and it's purpose, and theirs to reassure people that it works.
We were sitting in the library when Lily Evans came to sit down. "What are you reading?" she asked Alice, grabbing the copy of my manuscript Alice was gathering material for her speech from, "knowledge belongs to everyone. Everyone should have the rights to any book, no matter what."
"Accio!" I yelled. My book flew out of her hands and she said, "Hey, I just want to join your group, I promote unity too. I'm the brightest witch of our age, everyone says so, I won't have trouble understanding it."
I quickly used legillemency on my friends, and brought them to my mind palace. "I don't trust her," I said, "she's rude, arrogant, and is biased to all Slytherins minus Snape. Alice, for your own safety, I suggest you stay far away from her. Anyways, next time we should just work on this in my case."
I released everyone from my mind, and I said to Evans. "You are an arrogant little toad. If you did not pay money for a book or borrow it from a library, you can't just expect everyone to give you the knowledge for free. Who's the everyone that says your the brightest? Was it your friends? Of course it was, because it's public knowledge that me and my friends are top four of the year, with Gabe Rowle in fifth. Now get away before I hex you."
Evans ran away, and we continued working. After an hour, we all went to my case(minus Bella she had detention.) I started teaching my friends how to perform a disarming charm and a stunner. Dora got surprisingly quickly, and easily modified it to disarm all of us at once, changing the incantation to detramones from the Latin words detrahere arma omnes, which meant disarm them all. She had to do some complicated motions, weaving the very nature of the spell, to a completely new, but similar, spell.
We all enjoyed this time, but also made room for our classwork. Professor Slughorn was a kindhearted man, who wanted to have power and influence, but stay out of the spotlight. He taught the potions very well, and was pleased I had the Potter potions talent. He was disheartened, by the fact that James stunk at potions. Professor Sinistra, the astronomy teacher, was a simple woman, who taught not only where the stars were in the sky, but where they lie in mythology.
Professor Flitwick was, minus Newt, by far my favorite teacher. He was energetic and passionate about his subject, and was also readily available to answer questions. I sometimes would go up to him to ask about dueling tips and his own dueling career. He made such an impression on me, that I invited him to my book gala.
McGonagall was by far the most annoying. She had her blind devotion to the headmaster, prejudice to Gryffindor, and lack of volunteering help to students. Other than that, she was good at her subject, being an animagus as proof, and taught well. Professor Sprout was a delight, and would often talk to me about her plants.
History of Magic was self studied, as Binns had no clue how to teach. Tina had sent me her American textbooks, and my friends and I learnt out of them. Professor Dumbledore was his annoying self.
It was approaching Yule, and I couldn't wait.
