My Wolf
Ch 8
"I can't believe her..."
"She can't even help her sister..."
"It's always the quiet ones..."
I hid in the bathroom during lunch time as I was tired of the comments. I couldn't help my sister as she didn't want help. She's ignored me ever since she got here. She got the attention from everyone like she was the newest collectible toy that was just released in stores. Bella was in the almost accident a week ago and I'm still hearing the comments.
Paul texted me finally, after I texted him to come get me. I looked and saw that he said he was outside. I picked up my bag and left the stall I was in. Not caring that Alice had walked in. I kept my head down.
"Christine..." I heard her whisper. I kept walking until I was in the parking lot and met Paul by my truck. He picked me up and put me in the passenger seat before climbing in to drive. I handed him the keys and scooted til I was up on him. He wrapped his arm around me and held me as he drove to Emily's.
It was once we got there and out of the truck when he asked, "What happened this time?"
"Everyone already dislikes me for unknown reasons... Today was nothing but comments on how I didn't help Bella when she was almost hit with the van. How am I suppose to help someone who doesn't want help? She ignores me at home, at school... Only time we interact with each other is when we make dinner or let each other know when we're showering..." I told him, sitting on the porch, wrapping my arms around my legs.
"Maybe I could talk to Billy about you finishing school here," Sam said as he and Emily came out with a tray of sandwiches, chips, cans of soda, and cookies.
"As much as I would like that... I already talked to my counselor. I'm taking my exams next week and getting my diploma early... I have enough credits to graduate early so I am..." I said, looking to Paul, who looked surprised. I smiled, "Surprise?"
"That means you can stay here on the res with me more!" He exclaimed loudly. I giggled and nodded, taking a sandwich and can of soda from the trays. "We need a bonfire on you graduating."
"There's no need to celebrate, Paul," I told him, taking a bite of my sandwich.
"Of course there is. Because now I can do this." Paul pulled out something from his pocket and walked over to me. "I know it's only been a few months, but I want to give you something to wear to show that you're mine forever, if you have me." He held out a leather bracelet with black, white, and purple beads surrounding a stitched in silver wolf.
Emily covered her mouth as she gasped. Sam wrapped his arms around her with a smile on his face. I could only stare at the beauty of the bracelet before reaching out and touching it. It was soft to the touch. I looked to Paul and shot myself at him, shouting "YES!". Having caught him off guard, he stumbled as he caught me with a laugh. "Help me put it on!"
I held my left arm out as he put the bracelet on me and secured it. Once he was done, I kissed him. He kissed me back and pulled back, "So... Bonfire?"
"Bonfire. But we have to have dad come down since it's for me 'graduating'," I told him as he held me to him. We both looked to Sam.
"I don't see why not. I'm sure Billy wouldn't mind the company," He said with a grin. Emily squealed and came off the porch to hug me before racing inside the house to begin phone calls. I rolled my eyes with a smile and kissed Paul's cheek before finishing my sandwich quickly to go help Emily inside.
Paul and Sam came back in after a few minutes.
"Are the Cullens doing with Bella being here?" Sam asked. I shrugged.
"Okay I guess... Edward saved Bella last week and so she's on this kick on trying to figure them out... The day after the accident was their field trip day, if I remember correctly... and she was a little upset... She's going to the beach tomorrow with a group of friends so hopefully it'll keep her mind off of the Cullens," I told them. Paul scoffed, growling out, "A leech saving a human..." Then looked sheepish, "Sorry Lottie..."
"It's fine... Alice was the only one who cared until Bella showed up so..." I whispered looking down. His warm hand lifted my head up by my chin.
"You have me and the gang here on the res, you don't need them anymore..." Paul told me quietly. I nodded and kissed him gently. He walked up behind me and hugged me. I melted in his embrace and watched Emily go flying across the kitchen while on the phone.
"Hey Emily?" I called out to her. She paused her dialing of the phone, "Yeah?"
"Could...We have a girl night tonight?" I asked, "It's just, I don't want to go home to Bella being in a mood an-"
"Sure we can! We'll make brownies and order in some chinese or pizza, while we watch a rom-com!" She said with excitement. Sam rolled his eyes with a grin.
"Looks like we're outside tonight Paul."
"You guys can stay too... I didn't mean to kick you out," I said with a small blush. Sam only shook his head.
"It's fine. Emily needs a night to chill and it's my turn tonight anyway."
"Only if you're sure.."
"Lottie, it's okay, sweetheart. Besides, I need to talk to Sam anyway," Paul said, kissing my cheek before walking out of the house. I watched him go to my truck and grabbed purse and bag and looked through them. He grabbed my phone out of my purse and placed both bags back in the truck before coming back inside.
"Call Charlie and let him know of your plans. Don't need him freaking out. Plus, you need some clothes to change into," he said as he handed me my phone.
"Good thinking, thank you my wolf," I said and kissed his cheek before going outside and called my dad.
"Chief Swan."
I rolled my eyes at him with a smile even though he couldn't see me.
"Hey, daddy. I'm gonna stay with Emily tonight, if that's okay..." I told him quickly.
"Lottie? Yeah that's fine. I'll be late tonight anyway," he told me.
"Please be safe daddy..."
"Always am. Love you, kiddo."
"Love you too, daddy."
We hung up at that, keeping our tradition of no goodbyes and I sighed. I knew what he was looking for... A vampire. But he didn't know that and I hope to keep it that way. I went back inside.
"Hey Paul, want to drive me home long enough to get some clothes?" I called out.
"Sure, give me a sec!" I heard him call from the back of the house. Emily was in the kitchen making more sandwiches.
"For Jared?" I asked her.
"Yeah, he's going to be on break soon, with this rogue vamp coming closer, the guys are wanting to do longer shifts," She told me.
"I just hope no one else gets hurt."
"You and me both."
Paul came in and swooped me up and Sam did the same to Emily.
"Paul put me down!"
"This isn't funny Sam!"
Sam carried Emily up the stairs with a grin and Paul carried me outside. He put me in the truck and climbed in himself and started the truck and drove me to my house. I rolled my eyes at him and playfully hit his arm. He grinned at me and pulled me over to him.
Once we got to the house, Paul walked me from the truck and inside, my back pack on my back. Bella's truck sat in it's spot in the driveway, yet there was no Bella. I raised an eyebrow when I found a note telling Charlie that she was out in Port Angeles with her friends from school.
"She's... shopping?"
"Hey, at least it isn't with the leeches."
"Must be Angela and Jessica..." I said as I went to my room. I grabbed a tank top, some shorts, a underwear set, a long sleeve shirt and some jeans for the next day and threw them into my back pack. I raced back down to Paul who caught me as I jumped off the second step to him. I wrapped my legs around his waist and my arms around his neck.
"Not that I don't like being pounced on, what brought that on?" He asked.
"I just wanted to. Plus I like you holding me this way," I told him. He grinned.
"Better be careful with this, sweetheart... I can't wait for us to actual do something. I promise you'll be begging me for all kinds of positions."
I blushed and hid my face in his neck. He chuckled and took me back to my truck. The ride back to La Push felt short as we talked about our future together. How long to wait on marriage when he truly asks me to marry him. How many kids would we want and that was an iffy subject on him. He stayed quiet for a while after I asked him about kids, telling him why I wanted them. I just nodded and sighed.
We got to Emily's and I grabbed my bags and left Paul at the truck. I knew I wanted kids. At least one or two. Three being the max. I wanted to show them that not all parents weren't there. I would care for my babies and be there for them. But if Paul didn't want them... I guess I would give the idea up for him.
"Hey, you're-, are you okay?" Emily asked.
I put my bags by my feet as I sat next to her.
"Do you want kids one day Em?"
"Well yeah..."
"So do I... I know we're young... But we were talking about the future and I asked Paul about wanting kids and now he won't even say a word..."
"Christine... He didn't have a good childhood..."
"Neither did I... that's why I want kids. To prove to myself that I'm a better parent than my mom was. I want to rock my kids to sleep at night and kiss their booboos when they get hurt. I want to brush their hair and read them stories. Make them lunches for school and give dating advice.
"Granted that this would be a few years down the road, I want my own family... One to call my own. I know I have Bella, my dad, you, Sam, and Paul. But I want to be a wife and a mommy..." I told her, tears falling down my face.
"Did you tell him that?" Emily asked gently, wrapping an arm around me.
"I did, not like that, but in other words..."
"Just give him time to adjust to the idea of wanting kids, sweetie. I'm sure it'll work out."
"If he doesn't want... If he doesn't want kids then I'll give that dream up for him." We jumped when we heard a sad howl right outside the house. I sighed.
"I'm guessing that's Paul and he heard everything..."
"Like I said, give him time. Now... Why don't we go head and start a movie and I'll grab some face masks and nail polish?" Emily asked me. I saw what her tactic was and I took it.
"Sure. What movies do you have?"
"We can go Disney with Princess Diaries, or with Adam Sandler in 50 First Dates, or Reese Whitherspoon in Sweet Home Alabama."
"Hmm. Let's go with... 50 First Dates. I don't think I've seen that one yet," I told her and she just stared at me. "What? I like movies but I don't really watch them all that much."
"That's going to change tonight!" Emily exclaimed as she jumped up and ran upstairs. It was a little after 5 so I went to the half bath that was next to the kitchen and changed into my tank and shorts.
As I walked out of the restroom I ran into a bare chest. I looked to see Paul looking down at me. He pulled me closer to him and kissed me hard. I kissed him back and just as quickly as he kissed me, he pulled back.
"I love you, Christine. I'm sorry that I didn't answer you in the truck... It's just... Something I never really thought of having one day. But I want what you want. I want us to have a family one day. And prove not just to others, but to ourselves that we can do it," He whispered to me. I looked into his eyes, and I knew he was telling the truth.
"I love you too Paul. Thank you for telling me," I whispered back to him, taking his face in my hands and pulling him down for a kiss.
"Not that I'm happy for you guys settling that discussion, but I rather not see you two swallow each other tongues," Emily said, breaking us apart. I looked to her with a weak grin and she smirked at me. I kissed Paul on the cheek.
"You better get going, wolf man. Me and Emily have a girls night out to do!"
