District 5 Reapings
Addax Jensen, 15, District 5 Female
Ever since we were eight years old, we've been with Nico. Me and Donny don't have a mom or dad. She left right away but he tried. Then when we were eight, he decided we weren't worth it. He dumped us with Nico and we've been with him ever since. Life isn't great, but I'd rather live in filth and squalor than deal with him again. My dad, I mean. Nico is acceptable. Donny is the only one I really care about, though I'll never tell him that. I'm notorious across the district for my bad attitude and arguing with anybody over small problems. I was on my way to the gym, when I bumped into a kid. He couldn't be older than ten but he was in my way. So I yelled at him. He ran off crying and I continued on my way.
I figured I was gonna be late so I started crab walking, zooming along to the gym. I hit people's legs and made them fall over or drop their stuff, but I didn't care, I had to get to the gym and work out. I had to become the strongest and most muscular girl in the district. I scuttled up to the gym door and stood up. I opened the door and went inside. There was hardly anybody, probably due to most of five being eggheads. I didn't care about them though. They were no match for me. I stood only 5'8 and I'm skinny but my muscles are huge. If all else fails I can use my words. I don't like talking to people but I can if I have to and people tend to listen to me. I start my workout with the treadmill, putting it up high and crab walking. I'm really fast but I can always get faster. I move on to the bench press, with the gym instructor spotting me. I keep moving through my cycle lifting the kettlebell, then the barbels, and I keep going until it starts to get to our time. I have to find Donny because we have something big planned for tonight.

I'm looking for Addax, but it's hard with all the kids and the fact she was wearing all black, just like the uniforms of the power plant workers. I'm wearing white, which nobody else really wears. It's Edison Day, so there's people everywhere. I lift kids up to look past them but I don't see her anywhere.
"Hey, uhh could you put me down?" the kid above my head says. I toss him aside, scanning the crowd. Something bumps into my leg, and I look down and see Addax crab walking. I crouch down and we crab walk through the crowd, occasionally knocking people over. We make it through the crowd and to the alleyway where we stored the supplies. We have stick-on tiles. We leave art around the district, depicting various things. We always switch up the medium and today we're making a mosaic.
We kick around a soccer ball while we wait for the crowd to thin. Addax is more skilled than me, but I'm faster and more agile, so I can hold my own. As the sun starts to go down, people go home. And we gather our materials and go out into the night. We make it to our location. This is our most ambitious project yet, as proven by the fact that we are outside the mayor's house. We start putting tiles up, knowing we have to be quick. Just as the sun appears over the horizon, and we finish up, a light turns on in the house. We grab our stuff and crabwalk under the gate, gone in a blink. And soon the whole district will see the mosaic of a beautiful sunset, something we don't get in five, but we see on TV. And we retreat home, ready to feign surprise.
Hey guys I know it's been a while but I have been really distracted with school. However, I never planned on abandoning this story. Sorry it's late and thanks Marie and Rafael for these two!
