"ARIZONA" Callie screamed.
"I-I fell" the blonde popped her head up over the side of the bed and Callie could see her again, her heart was beating out of her chest, "I didn't mean to wake you"
Thank god it was not a dream. "You fell? Are you hurt? Did you hit your head again?" Callie fired questions climbing out of the bed and walking around to Arizona who was blushing, Callie frowned.
"I um, I" Arizona had already noticed Callie looking down at the wet patch on her shorts, "I needed the bathroom". Arizona was flushed with embarrassment, "I guess I forgot I can't just get up and go whenever I want"
"You should have woken me-"
"I didn't want to wake you-" the pair spoke in unison and gave a small laugh.
"Are you okay though'' Callie smiled, still looking down to the blonde on the floor raising an eyebrow. Arizona would be hating this, she was too independent for her own good.
"I'm okay, I think"
"Let me help you, I'll put you in the shower" Callie gently lifted Arizona up onto her feet and tried to steady her.
"I feel dizzy" Arizona squeezed her eyes shut.
Callie felt Arizona's body go limp in her arms, she lifted her up onto the bed, Arizona's skin was paler than usual and she seemed to be running a small fever. She had missed a dosage of her pain medication and this was probably her body's way of telling her to slow down, not that she was doing a lot in the first place.
When Arizona opened her eyes she found herself laying on bed,Callie was leaning over her stroking her forehead softly, "you fainted sweetheart", Arizona's eyes darted around the room as she tried to sit up but was quickly met with Callie's hands on her shoulders, "don't sit up yet, you have a fever and I can feel your pulse racing, you're okay, you're safe with me" Arizona took a few controlled breaths and felt her pulse begin to slow down. "Let me check you over." Callie pleaded.
"No, Callie please" Arizona whimpered, hating being a patient.
"Only quickly, what day is it?" Callie asked.
"It's Monday night, or Tuesday morning, I actually don't know how long we slept" Arizona replied. Callie laughed, she wasn't too sure either.
"And what's the last thing you remember?"
"You were going to put me in the shower" Arizona flushed again remembering she hadn't made it to the toilet.
"Right, well you seem okay, but no getting up"
"Callie I need a shower, I'm better now" Arizona was laying there with her hand placed in between her eyes, her pain was visible to Callie which saddened her.
"You're a terrible liar Arizona, Wait here, do not get up" Callie said before going into the bathroom.
"It's not like I can go anywhere, " Arizona shouted after her. Her head was still spinning, she hadn't hit it on her fall but her whole body had taken an impact, she was realising how weak she actually was and it was starting to really break her.
Callie came back in with a bucket of hot soapy water and two washcloths. "Callie what are you doing?" Arizona frowned, which only worsened the pain in her head. Without a reply Callie dipped one of the washcloths into the water and rang it out, folded it into a thick strip and placed it on Arizona's forehead. "You're in too much pain for me to put you in the shower, so I'm giving you a bed bath and you're not going to argue with me" Arizona knew not to argue back, her ego was a little bruised and as much as she hated being a patient she didn't mind Callie looking after her.
Arizona laid completely still as Callie began to wash her body, she'd started around her neck and had rolled her top up to clean her stomach and back. Arizona could feel the sheets underneath her collecting water but the coolness against her skin soothed her. Callie had removed Arizona's shorts and underwear before continuing, her concentration slipping the closer she moved towards Arizona's heat. She hadn't been this close to her in so long, but now was not the time. They weren't even Married, well, technically they still were because Callie had been battling with Arizona to sign the divorce papers but she'd never been able to bring herself to take them to the lawyer. She wanted to have sex with Arizona, her own arousal starting to pulse within, but she couldn't, not until they had talked, Arizona had to remember before they could move on.
Callie went to empty the bucket and bought Arizona some new pyjamas and her medication.
"I am a doctor you know," Arizona scoffed.
"Yes, and as a doctor you should know the importance of taking your medication" Callie fired back. "Take it Arizona"
Arizona looked up into Callie's eyes and then back down to the hand that had 3 pills laid out in it. She let out a sigh before taking the pills into her own hand and the glass of water that was on her nightstand. Callie watched as she swallowed the pills, she didn't want to be forceful but she needed Arizona to get better.
"It's 4am, do you want to go back to sleep or stay up"
"I think I'll try and sleep again, see if I can't get rid of this headache" Arizona pulled the covers over her and nuzzled her face into the pillow, Callie was glad with her choice because she was still tired herself after being woken with a fright. "If you need anything, just wake me" Callie said and Arizona responded with a barely audible hum.
———————————
Callie woke before Arizona, she checked her phone for the time and saw that it was 945am, she had a missed call from Meredith. She climbed out of the bed and walked into Arizona's living room hitting the call button.
"Hey Mer, is everything okay, is Sofia okay?" She said in her groggy morning tone.
"Hey Cal, yes everything is fine, Sofia wants to see you so I told her we can FaceTime, press the green button" Callie looked down at her phone. *incoming FaceTime call from Meredith Grey*. She connected the call and saw Sofia sitting on Meredith's lap, "see there's mommy"
"Hi mommy" Sofia smiled.
"Hey my beautiful baby girl" Callie cooed
"Mommy at mama's house, where is mama"
"Mama is still sleeping"
"Silly mama, I love you mommy"
"I love you too baby" Callie missed Sofia and was sure Arizona missed her too.
"Let's take you to zolas room so you can play while I'll talk to mommy for a second '' Meredith smiled, leading Sofia to Zolas room before coming back down the stairs.
"Mer I don't know what to do"
"What do you mean cal"
"I just feel like it's going to take her a long time to heal" Callie's face dropped, she missed Arizona.
"You don't have to be there you know if it gets to hard and-"
"I love her mer, I know we've been through hell this year, but I've missed her so much, and life without her is just so boring, like all the magic is gone"
"Cal you know she still loves you"
"I know, but I can't do anything because of her memory, and what if she doesn't anymore, what if she's moved on, I'm just pissed it came to this for me to realise, I need her mer, I need her back"
"She'll be back, it's only been a few days, just keep up with her medication, she has her first therapy session soon right?"
"Yeah, on Thursday, and a prosthetic appointment on Friday, which should be fun because we both know how well it went the first time, except she's like a completely different person, she's like the old her, the Arizona i fell in love with and I - I'm falling in love all over again but what if it's a mistake mer, what if I'm just in love with the idea of being in love with her"
"Callie, we can all see it. We know you love her, even before this, you long for each other, you smile when she walks into a room and she frowns when you leave, what was the first thing she told you, all those years ago, the day you first met after she kissed you"
"I think you'll know?"
"Right, and I think you do cal, you're just scared of getting hurt again. She made a mistake, who hasn't, it's just whether you can let yourself love her again, but she hasn't stopped paying for her mistake since the day she made it, it eats her alive and you know that"
"I know, and you're right, thank you!"
"I'll call you tomorrow, speak soon"
Meredith ended the call, and left Callie thinking for a while, she made a coffee and waited for Arizona to wake up.
