Tom was quiet as they walked into the room. He wasn't nervous nor his eyes were burning but he knew that he should listen to what this doctor has to say. Tom was sitting on a hard bed, but it felt soft to him a little. He giggled when he ran his hands over it. "So, this is Thomas, yes?" Tom heard a voice ask. It was a kind voice, but it sounded older.
"Hello," Tom said in a quiet voice. However, that is all he said as he ran his hands over the bed again. Tom moved his head when he heard Theseus laugh a little, but it was a nervous laugh.
" Yes, this is Tom. He um, as you can see, he can't see," Theseus said not sure what to say and he hoped that he didn't say anything wrong. Tom smiled a little as if he were proud of this. He then felt something cold on his skin. He flinched but he liked it.
"Ok Thomas, I need you to breathe in and out for me," Tom nodded and did as he was told. Once that was done Tom heard the man write something down. "His breathing is fine but it's damaged. Was he in a fire? Do you know?" Tom heard the doctor ask. Tom however didn't wait for Theseus to answer.
"Yes, snake in room, talking," Tom said slowly. He heard the doctor hum and write something down. Tom felt Theseus's hand in his own.
"Accidental magic it seems," Tom heard Theseus say. He had no idea what that means but it sounded cool even though that he knew that magic was not real. Was it? Tom moved his head to Theseus and smiled a little. "He said that was the last thing he saw was something before fire started in his room at the orphanage where I adopted him from," Tom heard Theseus added. Tom smiled a little at this fact. He heard the doctor hum and let out a breath.
"Yes, it seems that he blinded himself and damaged his lungs, but he seems he alright with it. We should see if we can fix them with magic but I'm not sure if it will work," Tom heard the doctor say.
"Thank you," Tom raised an eyebrow, but he didn't say anything. Soon Tom tuned out Theseus and the doctor for he was getting lost in thought about that toy that Theseus told him about. The softness of it made him happy.
"Yes, that sounds like phantom pains," the doctor's voice cut through Tom's eyes. He didn't know what phantom pains were, but it scared him. However, he didn't ask as he heard Theseus hum. Tom let out a breath and smiled when he picked him up. He giggled.
"Thank you, doctor," Tom heard Theseus say calmly. However, he didn't say anything as Theseus walked out of the room.
"Your welcome captain. Come back when you are ready to give magic on his eyes a try," the doctor's voice said before Tom heard Theseus walk out of the room.
Tom noticed that Theseus was quiet when he heard his feet hit the ground. Tom didn't say anything about it as he started to hum to himself. After a few minutes, he heard Theseus clean his throat. "So, let's get you that teddy bear," Theseus said slowly. Tom heard the pain in his voice behind his cheery one. Tom nodded with a small smile, but he wondered why Theseus was sad. However, he didn't ask him.
"Soft?" Tom asked with a small giggle. He heard Theseus laugh a little.
"Of course," Theseus told him before he walked into a store.
