Chapter 8
Revelations
Today is Sunday, the only day when the U.A. High students don't go to school. The day before, Arisa and Felicia saw they were low on certain necessities. So, they decided that today they would go shopping at the Kiyashi Ward Shopping Mall.
"It's great to be back here," Arisa said.
"I never get tired of this view," Felicia commented.
Both girls arrived at the entrance to the Kiyashi Ward Shopping Mall via the bullet train.
"So, what do you need to get Arisa?" Felicia asked.
"I really need some food and drinks. I would like to get some books to read when there's nothing good to watch on TV," Arisa responded. "What about you?"
"I too need some nosh and drinks," Felicia replied.
"Nosh?" Arisa asked. "What's that?"
"Nosh means food in England," Felicia clarified.
"Oh," Arisa nodded that she understood.
"I also need some new paint tubes and brushes for my Quirk," Felicia stated. "I'm running low on them because of the training we've been doing."
"How about we split up for now and meet up at the grocery store?" Arisa suggested.
"That sounds like a cracking plan," Felicia commented.
"Does cracking mean good?" Arisa guessed.
"Yes, it does," Felicia clarified.
"Alright then. See you later then," Arisa waved goodbye.
"Ta ta," Felicia replied as they went their separate ways.
-My Hero Academia-
After a bit of walking, Arisa arrived at the bookstore. She bought the book 'Paper Towns' since she is a big fan of John Green and his finest works.
When Felicia arrived at the art store, she was impressed with what she saw. The store had many different types of color paints, different sized paint brushes, and other art supplies. The sight of all that made Felicia feel so joyous that she grinned with glee, and that confused the customers and workers nearby. When she saw the people staring at, she quickly regained her composure and began perusing. She almost couldn't decide what to buy with so many choices to pick from. Eventually, she bought some small paint brushes, small paint tubes, pencils, and erasers. Then she left the store so she can meet up with Arisa.
Just as they planned, Felicia and Arisa met up at the grocery store and went in together.
"This store looks nice," Arisa said. Both girls saw how organized it was with its aisles of foods, drinks, and other items.
"Yes, it feels quite quaint," Felicia added on.
The girls walked together with their shopping baskets through the many aisles to get what they needed. They both picked out some of the same fruits, vegetables, and bread. Arisa got some orange juice and cranberry juice to help give her energy to use her Quirk. Felicia got some tea bags (herbal, earl grey, and green tea) and milk because she enjoys their taste and they remind her of home.
"It seems we might be here a while," Felicia said.
The girls finished picking their groceries, but now had to wait in a long line of customers to get to the cashier.
"Well, if we have to wait this line any longer, we should get some lunch after this," Arisa suggested "Because I'm getting a little hungry."
"I agree," Felicia responded.
Soon, another customer joined the line behind the two girls. Felicia got a little bored waiting, so she looked around the store to pass the time. When she saw the customer behind her, she felt like the customer looked familiar.
"Arisa," Felicia whispered to her friend. "I think the guy behind us might go to U.A. High, but I'm not quite sure."
"Really?" Arisa asked, and Felicia responded with a slight nod.
When Arisa looked behind to see the guy, she was shocked to see who it is.
"Shoto Todoroki?" Arisa asked.
"Yes?" Todoroki answered.
Felicia turned around to find out what was going on.
"Wait. Arisa, you know him?" Felicia asked.
When Todoroki heard that name, he spoke before Arisa could reply.
"Arisa? Arisa Kawasaki?" Todoroki asked.
"Yes, Todoroki, it's me," Arisa admitted to him. "It's been a long time since we last saw each other."
"Yes, it has," he answered.
"How do you know each other?" Felicia asked as she looked at them back and forth.
"Did you two meet at U.A. High? Or did Usagi tell you about him Arisa?" Felicia guessed.
"Neither, Felicia," Arisa answered.
"We're actually childhood friends," Todoroki revealed with a straight face.
"Blimey!" Felicia was surprised by that revelation. Her reaction also caught the attention of the other customers in line.
Later, the girls and Todoroki went to a nearby restaurant to eat lunch and discuss about the recent revelation. The group sat at a table booth, with Felicia sitting across from Arisa and Todoroki.
"So, you two are childhood friends," Felicia started, with Arisa and Todoroki listening carefully. "And for some reason you two haven't seen each other since you were kids?"
Todoroki and Arisa both nodded in agreement.
"What happened to cause you two to lose touch with each other?" Felicia asked with concern.
Arisa and Todoroki looked at each other. She was unsure on how to respond, and he had a straight face.
"Do you want to tell her or should I?" Todoroki asked Arisa.
"Um, I'll tell her," Arisa decided.
Arisa took a breath and exhaled to prepare herself. She then looked at Felicia, who looked a bit concerned with how her friend was acting.
"It started back when were we kids," Arisa began the tale.
Flashback – 10 years ago
5-year-old Arisa skipped merrily down the street after going to the park to play with her friends from kindergarten.
"Hey, you." she heard a voice nearby.
Arisa looked, wondering that voice came from.
"Who said that?" Arisa asked.
"Over here."
The girl turned her head to see Shoto.
"Can you get that ball. My brother Natsuo accidentally threw it so hard it went outside." he said.
"Sure," Arisa replied before picking up the blue ball from the nearby tree.
"I'm Arisa Kawasaki. What's your name?" Arisa asked, approaching Shoto with the ball in hand.
"I'm Shoto Todoroki," Shoto answered as he accepted the ball.
"Can I play with you and your brother?" Arisa asked him with a smile.
"I don't think that's a good idea. My dad doesn't like visitors to enter," Shoto reasoned.
Arisa thought about it and decided to go play with Shoto anyway.
"I'm sure he won't mind one little visitor," Arisa replied, entering the property.
"Wait," Shoto shouted, but Arisa didn't hear him as she was too far away.
When Endeavor found Arisa, he called her parents to pick her up. When she told them about her friendship with Shoto, the parents agreed to let them continue playing together. Arisa's parents completely approved it, and Endeavor begrudgingly accepted it.
Ever since that day, Arisa kept vising Shoto every day after school and on weekends to play with him and sometimes his brothers Toya and Natsuo and sister Fuyumi. Arisa also met Shoto's mom Rei, who she thought was nice and sweet. Sometimes the time Arisa spent with Shoto was short because of his training with his dad. She heard from Shoto's siblings about his training being hard and kind of scary for him. Arisa decided to keep being Shoto's friend to help him through his rough time.
However, all of that changed one day.
"Catch Shoto," Arisa threw the ball to Shoto.
They were playing in a room together.
"Got it," Shoto caught the ball.
Suddenly Arisa's stomach growled, which caught both their attention.
"Sorry about that. I guess I'm a little hungry," Arisa blushed in embarrassment.
"I'll go ask my mom for some snacks. Wait here," Shoto responded as he left the room.
After waiting for a little while, she kept getting hungrier.
"I'm so hungry. What is taking so long," Arisa complained with her hands on her stomach. "I'll just get the snacks myself."
Arisa decided to leave the room and went to the kitchen. There she found Shoto peeking at something inside the kitchen. As she was about to call to him, she witnessed an incident that scarred her for life.
"Ahhhhhhhhh!" Shoto exclaimed in pain as he dropped to the floor. His mother threw scalding water from a tea kettle on his left side of his face.
"Shoto!" Arisa exclaimed as she approached him.
Arisa saw Shoto's mom on her knees, looking scared and guilty from what she did.
"What's going on?" Arisa heard and saw Endeavor come to the scene.
After seeing everything, Endeavor knew what to do.
"Shoto, I'll take you to the hospital right away. Then I'll have a talk with your mother," Endeavor decided.
"And as for you," Endeavor said as he threateningly loomed over Arisa. "You might as well leave now as I'm gonna hurt you more than I hurt my own wife and son."
After that, Arisa told her parents what happened that day. Arisa's parents took action and had a restraining order signed on the Todoroki family because they were afraid for their daughter's safety. Arisa never set foot in the Todoroki house and decided to make friends with the other kids in the neighborhood.
End Flashback
"Blimey! What happened in the past sounded like it was rough for the both of you," Felicia commented.
"It was," Arisa and Todoroki answered together.
"So, what are you two going to do now?" Felicia asked them.
Todoroki and Arisa looked at each other, unsure what to say.
"I guess we could be friends again," Arisa suggested to him. "If you want."
"I don't know if we should," Todoroki replied, which made Arisa a bit sad.
"Well, I think you two should be friends again," Felicia stated, which made them both look at her with confusion.
"Even if you two stopped being friends because of Todoroki's father and the restraining order, you shouldn't let that stop you from being friends now," Felicia explained. "Friends don't let anything stop them from hanging out or talking with each other."
What Felicia said sunk into Arisa and Todoroki.
"Perhaps we could at least talk with each other every now and then," Todoroki suggested to Arisa, which made her happy.
"I would like that," Arisa replied.
Soon they both exchanged cell phone numbers, and Felicia was delighted to see them become friends again.
-My Hero Academia-
After lunch, the trio got on the train back to the Tatooine Station. Then, they parted ways, with Todoroki going home and the girls walking back to the Emerald Shade with their groceries in hand.
"Well, you seem happy now that you have your friend back," Felicia noted because of the smile on Arisa's face.
"I don't see how I can't be," Arisa answered. "I never thought I would either see Todoroki or become friends with him again."
"That's good to hear," Felicia smiled.
"But that's not all," Arisa stated, which stumped Felicia.
"What do you mean?" Felicia asked.
"The thing is only my family knows about what happened with Todoroki and me," Arisa explained. "I've never told anyone else about it. Not even my friends back home."
Felicia processed what her friend said and understood it.
"So, you felt comfortable talking about your past because I was there?" Felicia questioned her.
"Yeah, I guess so," Arisa answered.
Felicia was so touched by the response that she stopped walking and suddenly hugged Arisa.
"Oh, okay," Arisa was surprised by the hug.
"My apologies," Felicia said, letting go of Arisa. "I tend to hug when I get a bit emotional."
"No problem," Arisa replied as they continued their walk home.
"Arisa, do you want to come to my room after we put our groceries and stuff away?" Felicia asked.
"Why? Do you want to hang out?" Arisa questioned her.
"Yes, I would like that," Felicia replied with a smile.
"Okay sure," Arisa said.
Once the girls got to their rooms, they put their groceries and other supplies away. Arisa came to Felicia's room and knocked on the door.
"Come in. I'm in the dining room," Felicia said.
Arisa came in, closed the door, and went to the dining room. There she saw Felicia at the table, putting some white teacups, plates, and teacakes on it. The cups and plates had flower designs on them.
"What's this for?" Arisa pointed to the food and drinks as she approached the table.
"Oh, I just figured we can eat and drink while we talk," Felicia suggested.
She then went to the kitchen to get a white tea pot with flower designs.
"Would you like some green tea or something else to drink," Felicia asked with the tea pot in hand.
"Some tea sounds nice," Arisa commented, and then sat down in a chair.
Felicia then poured tea into both their cups and sat in a chair facing Arisa. Both girls then began enjoying their snacks.
"Wow, this tea and teacakes are delicious and soothing," Arisa was amazed by well they are.
"Thanks, I made the tea from the tea bags I bought today, and I had the teacakes for a while now," Felicia stated happily.
While they were snacking, Felicia hesitated a bit to ask Arisa something important.
"Arisa, is there anything else you would like to confide to me," Felicia asked.
The question surprised Arisa so much that she almost choked on her tea cake. Luckily, she drank some tea to wash it down.
"Why ... Why do you ask?" Arisa tried to recover from the shock and almost choking.
"I remember before you said about almost hurting someone in middle school with your Quirk." Felicia explained. "It was before we went to UA High for our first day at school."
"Oh," Arisa remembered that she did tell Felicia that.
"I think you might feel better if you told me about," Felicia stated. "Also, I think that might have to do with you being a pacifist."
When Arisa saw how Felicia probably wouldn't let up on it, she decided to go with it.
"Well, if you insist, I guess I can tell you," Arisa started. "It started a few months before I met Shoto and 5 years before my family and I moved to Los Angeles."
Flashback – 10 years ago
It was another day in preschool. The teacher is teaching Arisa and her classmates about shapes and colors.
"Now children. Unlike the square, the rectangle, and the triangle, the circle doesn't have any sides or any corners." The teacher, Ms. Ayaka, discussed.
As the teacher continued the lesson, Arisa noticed small blue lights on her right shoulder. Wanting to know what's going on, Arisa carefully slinked away to the washrooms at the back of the classroom. Inside the girls' washroom, Arisa rolled up her right sleeve to reveal that a symbol has formed on her right shoulder. She even noticed that her left eye changing from blue to green.
"What's going on?" Arisa asked herself in surprise.
Just then, her hand started to light up as a blue disk of energy appeared floating above it.
"Wow." Arisa breathed in awe. "I can't believe it. My Quirk's finally here. I gotta show this to my classmates."
And she did show her Quirk to her classmates, as well as to Ms. Ayaka. They were all awestruck upon witnessing this.
After school, Arisa told her parents that her Quirk has kicked in.
"That's amazing, Arisa. You finally got your Quirk." Her dad said.
"And you got it from my side of the family." Arisa's mom added.
"What do you mean?" Arisa asked as she and her parents sat down on their living room couch.
"Arisa, you actually got your Quirk from your grandmother. It is one of the rarest Quirks of all time. And you are lucky to finally have it." Mrs. Kawasaki explained.
"Wow…" Replied Arisa before asking. "Was Grandma a Pro Hero before, like All Might and Dad?"
"Yes, she was. Your mother told me that your grandmother was a brave and strong hero known as Hemera." Mr. Kawasaki said. "She saved many people back in her prime and was respected by many. Sadly, she had to leave this world when you were just a baby."
"I guess I know what I want to be: a Pro Hero just like All Might, you, and Grandma." Said Arisa.
Near the end of the first flashback, I think you should put in this:
After that, Arisa told her parents what happened that day. Arisa's parents took action and had a restraining order signed on the Todoroki family because they were afraid for their daughter's safety. Arisa never set foot in the Todoroki house and decided to make friends with the other kids in the neighborhood.
End Flashback
"Blimey! I never would have thought that was how you got your Quirk," Felicia commented.
"Yeah, that's how it happened," Arisa answered sadly.
"Also, I didn't know you had two blue eyes until your Quirk changed one of them to green," Felicia stated. "I assumed you had heterochromia."
"No, it's understandable." Arisa took a sip of tea. "A lot of people back home thought the same thing."
"Oh, okay." Felicia replied.
"Well, that's my story. So, Felicia, how did you get your Quirk?" Arisa asked.
Felicia put her teacup down and spoke up.
"How I got it isn't as traumatic as what happened to you," Felicia admitted. "It started one day when I was four years old."
Flashback – 11 years ago
At the Marvellous Arts Studio, there is a four-year-old Felicia, with medium hair, on the floor, looking at a blank piece of paper with a paint brush in hand. She was having a hard time deciding what to paint. Around her are paint jars of different colors and a cup of water. Her parents are famous artists, and they made enough money to purchase an art studio to work on their artwork.
Right now, Felicia and her parents are in a huge room full of works of art and various painting supplies. The mother, Anna Marvell, is a 5ft tall woman with magenta eyes, tan skin, and long dark-blue hair. The father, Marcus Marvell, is a 5ft 6in tall man with red eyes, tan skin, and short, wavy light-brown hair. She was painting at an easel, and he was working on a sculpture. Felicia's parents decided to bring her because they both had to work today.
"Mother, what do you think I should paint?" Felicia asked her mother.
Her mother stopped painting her portrait of a smiling woman and dog to answer the question.
"I don't know dear," Mrs. Marvell answered.
"What do you think, honey?" Mrs. Marvell asked her husband.
The father stopped his chiseling of a sculpture of a man to answer.
"I suggest you paint whatever makes you happy, sweetie," Mr. Marvell answered Felica's question.
"Okay then, thanks," Felicia smiled.
"You're welcome," Mr. Marvell replied as he and his wife got back to work.
"I have such wonderful parents." Felicia thought as she saw how hard her parents worked on their art. "I hope to one day become a great artist like them."
Felicia decided to paint a Yorkshire Terrier she saw on the car ride to the art studio. Thanks to years of working on art, she developed the ability to do works of arts rather quickly. So, she finished her dog painting in a matter of minutes.
"Now this looks like a real work of art," Felicia finished her painting of the Yorkshire Terrier.
Suddenly she saw something happen to her painting.
"Mother, father, I think something is happening," Felicia alerted her parents.
They both stopped their work and were surprised by what they saw. The dog from Felicia's painting came out of the paper and it looked real.
"Blimey!" The Marvells exclaimed. The sudden surprise made the parents drop their art tools.
The dog then barked and started to run around the room. The Marvells were too shocked to stop the dog. Suddenly the dog knocked over the jars of paint and the cup of water. As soon as it got wet by the water, the dog started to melt, which also shocked the Marvells.
The dog barked rapidly as it melted. Then it dissolved completely into nothing.
"What just happened?" Felicia asked aloud, confused by the sudden event.
Both her parents approached her and began to explain.
"Sweetie, I think you just got a Quirk," Mr. Marvell stated.
"And it looks like you can bring your paintings to life," Mrs. Marvell joined in. "But it looks like they get destroyed when wet."
"Wow, I never thought I would get one," Felicia said happily.
"Neither did we," Her parents replied at the same time.
"So does this mean I can become a hero?" Felicia asked her parents. "Like the ones I've seen on the telly, and the ones I've drawn and painted before?"
"I guess so, my little artist," her mother responded with a smile. "If that's what you want."
Suddenly, Felicia realized something important.
"But if I become a hero, does that mean I can't be an artist," Felicia questioned, which made her a bit sad.
Her parents looked at each other, and then her father bent down to look at her.
"Sweetie," Mr. Marvell started as his daughter looked at him. "If you want to be a hero, that's fine. If you want to be an artist, that's fine too. Whatever you decide to do, your mother and I will support your decision no matter what."
Her father's response made Felicia happy as she made her decision.
"I think I want to be a hero," Felicia told her parents. "I do like art, but I really like seeing how those heroes use their Quirks to save the day. With my Quirk, I can do the same with my art."
"That sounds like a great decision, sweetie," Mr. Marvell answered with a smile, and that made Felicia happy too.
Mrs. Marvell, who also had a smile, bent down to their level to join the conversation.
"Of course, the way your Quirk works means you might have to stop painting so much," Mrs. Marvell made a good point.
"Oh, that's fine," Felicia answered. "I can just do drawings and sketches from now on."
The family laughed together at Felica's calm answer.
End of Flashback
"That sounds like a great story Felicia," Arisa commented.
"Thanks Arisa," Felicia then went to finish her tea and teacakes.
"You know, I do feel better know that I told you my past," Arisa admitted, and she finished her tea and teacakes too.
"I feel great too," Felicia also admitted. "I think this might be a bit much to say, but it kind of feels like I'm talking to a sister."
"Really?" Arisa asked with a bit of shock, and Felicia nodded in agreement.
"It's strange," Arisa started. "I kind of feel the same way."
Those words delighted Felicia so much that she suddenly hugged Arisa again.
"You're doing it again, Felicia," Arisa sweat dropped, and Felicia then let her go.
"Sorry," Felicia apologized with a smile. "The things is I'm an only child, so I've never had a sister before."
"Really?" Arisa asked, and Felicia nodded. "I only have two younger brothers, so having a sister is new to me."
"Well then, how about a toast to being sort of sisters?" Felicia asked, raising her teacup.
"Sure thing," Arisa agreed, raising her teacup too.
They both clinked their teacups in agreement.
"How about on the last day before the Sports Festival, we spend some time together instead of train?" Arisa suggested. "That way we can relax and prepare ourselves for it."
"That sounds like a smashing idea," Felicia agreed.
"I assume smashing is a good thing," Arisa guessed.
"It is. It means wonderful," Felicia explained.
"Alright then, see you tomorrow for more training." Arisa stated as she got up and went to the door.
"See you tomorrow," Felicia responded as Arisa left.
Arisa went back to her room, and then she and Felicia got ready for bed. Both girls felt better about themselves now that they've told each other their pasts and feel closer than before. Now they just must keep training for when the Sports Festival begins.
