"Hows the pain?" JJ asked Emily, driving back to JJ's as Will had taken the kids whilst they were away on the case and they werent coming back until JJ had finished work the next day. She could tell Emily had been dealing with some pretty bad period pain throughout the case, although she wouldn't dare show it to her team. JJ however knew and didn't need to be told. She didn't want to draw attention to it on the case as it would likely embaress Emily and potentially raise suspicion about their relationship but now she wanted to see how her girlfriend was doing.
"What pain?" Emily asked. Trying not to wince, feeling it resurface. She hated periods and she'd ran out of her pain medication which meant this one had got out of control.
"Emily, I know your on your period. You don't have to hide it now." JJ said, looking at her friend. "How's the pain?" She asked again.
"A bitch." Emily replied, wincing. At least not having to hide it from JJ would save some energy. "I ran out of the prescription. I took a stock of when I came back over from London and I was a week early and now there's not really anything I can get over the counter that even begins to touch it and I can't get my prescription meds because I don't have an American prescription."
JJ looked at her girlfriend concerned. "I am going to make you see my gynaecologist and get you some medication again then." She was aware Emily had been diagnosed with endometriosis when she was younger and although mostly under control she sometimes needed medication and further excision surgeries.
"Ugh. I hate doctors." Emily whined. There was a reason she had been putting off dealing with her painful periods after moving back to the US.
"Oh I know you do," JJ replied. She was so stubborn every time she got hurt in the field about not needing to see doctors because she hated them so much. "What made you see someone in London?"
"I kept passing out and once I passed out in front of my team." She confessed. "It was very embarrassing but after that I has no choice if I wanted to make sure that didn't keep happening."
JJ looked at the brunette and sighed. Why did she have to be so stubborn to have let it get that bad in the first place? "So you'll see my gynaecologist then?"
"Yeah." Emily agreed and closed her eyes. She knew it was the only way she'd get her pain under control again.
"Good," JJ replied. She knew Emily was in so much pain she'd likely barely slept. "I'm going to get you a hot water bottle when we get back to mine and then we can cuddle and you can try and get a few hours sleep. Does that sound good?" JJ asked. JJ had slept a little on the jet but she could still do with a few more hours. It was still the middle of the night.
"That sounds amazing," Emily replied.
"Good," JJ replied. "I'll phone the gynaecologist's office when they open tomorrow and try and get you in with her tomorrow evening." JJ replied.
"Thanks, JJ," Emily replied. What did she do to deserve such a wonderful girlfriend?
"That's okay," JJ replied. She loved Emily and wanted to make sure she was okay. They managed to get a few hours of sleep before work the next day although JJ knew Emily hadn't had much as she was curled up on JJ's sofa when JJ's alarm went off the next morning.
"Still in pain?" She asked, sitting beside her girlfriend. JJ knew the answer was yes. Emily was breathing as if she was in labour. It wasn't a good sign.
"Yeah," Emily replied, getting herself up slowly so she could put makeup on and get dressed for work. The pain hadn't improved in the slightest and both her back and lower abdomen were in agony. She'd gotten up and curled up on the sofa so she wouldn't wake JJ with her tossing, turning and heavy breathing.
"Maybe you should take a sick day?" JJ suggested. She wasn't sure why she knew Emily would say no.
"I'll be fine. We're down Tara and Spencer and I have some case reports that are due in by 5 pm." Emily replied.
"Okay." JJ decided not to argue with Emily on it and gave her a gentle hug. She made a mental note to keep an eye on Emily throughout the day, even if the frequent trips to Emily's office did raise some suspicion about their relationship.
When they got into work, JJ called the doctor from Emily's office so no one else would hear and got Emily an appointment for 6 pm. "Do you want me to come with you?" JJ asked.
"No, you need to spend time with the boys. I'll be okay." Emily replied.
"Okay. Let me know how it goes though." JJ replied before going to her desk to get on with some of her paperwork.
Emily went to the doctor that evening and got a prescription for the medication she was on. It was a lot easier than she thought it would be. She wasn't sure why she put it off thanks JJ she texted after the appointment.
JJ read the text and smiled. She was glad she was able to help and Emily may be feeling a bit better now.
