Ashes and Regret

Chapter 8

Author's Note : I'm thankful and humbled by the support and love. Thank you all. Review!

He felt just like you.

His arms his lips.

His promises were just as smooth.

His fit the grip it fit

But admit that only you.

Could make me feel the way you do.

You love is blind.

And he just caught my eye.

Now i'm fucking lonley

and you didn't want me.

People tend to reveal alot more when they think you aren't listening. When my parents sat us down to reveal that they were divorcing. Penelope fell apart. Carson ran away claiming he had a pick up basketball game to go to or to hang out with his friends he was already running late. But me i saw it first hand my parents were broken down emotionally and mentally even having to tell us this.

My mom went into comforting mode. While she was fighting back her own tears. My dad went into his office and didn't come out into it was late. It was the only time i ever saw my dad's vunerablity unfiltered. My hero without his cape and shield.

With Penelope moved out. Carson and I did what we could to keep spirits going. Even though Carson did all he could to avoid bringing up the subject in anyway.

"You looking for someone to blame is a waste of time. Sometimes relationships don't work out." I reminded him. As we played laid out on the benches at the Rivercourt. Taking advantage of it being empty.

Carson got up from where he was laying. Picked up the basketball and shot it straight into the nearby hoop.

"You haven't been listening close enough B. For months on end their fights have bled over into the walls of our bedrooms. They broke up for a reason i doubt it was just one thing." Carson replied.

Weeks Later

Brian clutched the current novel he was reading.

As Carson drove and paid attention to the road.

When the car stopped at a stoplight.

He gazed over at his brother.

"It be would nice if you put the book down and actually interact at this party tonight." Carson said.

Brian put his book down slowly. "These are you're people not mine. I have my own friends." He clarified.

"We're twins. My friends are you're friends. I thought you could use a night out. Given you're recent news and all." Carson said.

Brian had recently been diagnosed with HCM.

"I appreciate it. But i don't need cheering up. The Scott Athletic gene skipped me so it's no big deal." Brian admitted.

...

Penelope gazed around the walls of her empty bedroom.

As she made her way into the hallway.

"You sure you're okay with me leaving.?" Penelope asked.

Lucas smiled warmly at his daughter.

"Yes. You and i are going to see each other plenty. You going back to live with you're mom is the right decision." Lucas reassured her.

The expression on Penelope's face softened.

"I worry about you. I don't want you to be alone here." She admitted.

"I love you for that and so many other things. But i'm more then capable of taking care of myself. You go be a carefree 14 year old girl. I'm the dad. I worry about you." Lucas replied.

Penelope nodded her head in agreement as she followed her dad's lead out of the home.

A short drive later. The two were in front of the family home.

Penelope pulled her dad into a tight hug.

"I love you too." She confessed. As she exited the vehicle.

Brooke opened arms and engulfed her daughter in a warm hug.

Penelope waved goodbye to her dad. Before entering the home.

Lucas waved goodbye back from the driver's side window.

He was all prepared to drove off. But when Brooke made her way over to driveway and walked over to driver's side window.

He opened the door and looked to her.

"What can i do for Miss Davis.?" He teased.

Brooke smiled shyly. "Come in and hang out if you're free. P will be busy with homework then talking to her friends so we'll have distance. Unless you have a better offer you're waiting to accept.?" She asked.

"Time with you is never a waste." Lucas replied. Before exiting the car and following her inside.
