Yay, I redid the cover for this fic. It's probably always going to be constantly changing. I'm never happy with them for some reason.
Guest: This story is like Key Master but will not have the same coupling (I'm very sure about that) or story that I had going for that one. I lost the next three chapters of that one and couldn't remember what was being typed for it, but I want to finish this one before returning to that and trying to figure out where I was goin with it. So, yes this does share many similarities, but is not the same story. That will become more apparent as the story progressing, I understand the confusion! Thank you for bringing it up!

"Ah, duel monster cards!" Yugi exclaimed as they hung out in his family shop after school.
"Tou-San is expanding the reach of duel monsters to Japan," Amelia said as her friends looked at the cards on sale, "I think it might become really popular here."
"I remember playing with an old friend a few years back," Sugoroku informed them, "the rules have changed quite a bit."
"Yes, he's still trying new things with them," She quietly agreed, "but at least we get more effect cards out of it."
"Wow, the artwork on these cards is amazing, if not a little grotesque," Anzu stated as she looked at the different types.
She came across a card called Kuriboh and noted who was credited with the illustration. She looked over at the redhead who was looking over the cards that Yugi had pulled. No wonder their classmates were starting to give her strange looks. The other girl was becoming well known due to her father. She had a feeling that the game was going to cause them grief, and she frowned. What a strange sensation.
"How do you play, Mia?" Jounouchi asked.
"Well, the cards are meant for trading," Amelia stated as she scratched at her cheek in thought, "but, two players take turns putting their cards forward and whichever one has the higher attack points wins and the other player loses life points. There's also spell and trap cards that have special effects and can power up monsters or remove them from the playing field completely while inflicting damage to your opponent."
"You sure know a lot about this game, Mia-chan," Ryou said, and he watched her blush in embarrassment.
"Ha-ha, I guess I do," She sheepishly laughed, "though, there are some rare cards out in circulation that I have yet to see in person."
"Ji-chan has a rare card," Yugi stated, and his friends blinked in surprise.
"Ho-ho, I guess I have no choice but to show you now," Sugoroku stated as he gave them all a wink to show there was no hard feelings.
Ryou placed a figurine down that he had been looking at and moved closer so he could see the rare card. Yugi wasn't surprise when Honda and Jounouchi crowded the others around him. Hands appeared on his shoulders and he looked up see a frowning Amelia looking at Jounouchi with slight annoyance. His cheek warmed up a little when she turned to him with an apologetic smile.
"Here, my treasure!" Sugoroku said as he brought the card out from under the counter.
Amelia blinked at the sight of the Blue Eyes White Dragon card. It looked like the original version that she had grown up with. The version that had made her jokingly call it the Blue Eyes Blue Dragon for years. She somewhat listened into Sugoroku talking about the card and informing them of its history. She knew exactly what was going to happen. Kaiba Seto was going to make his grand entrance and she was dreading it. As much as she had enjoyed him as a character, and honestly, he had been a mood every time she watched his scenes in the Dub, but she didn't enjoy him as a person. He had created so many problems just for a single card. Such a thing bothered her, and she wondered if it was because she was the daughter of the game's creator. He didn't like cheating, even if he could with the millennium eye.
"Why don't we play duel monsters tomorrow?" Jounouchi suggested as he turned towards the three that usually played games together, "I'll take some cards, Gramps!"
"I'll consider helping you put together a usable deck and not one that's just strong monsters," Amelia stated, smirking slightly when he shot her a dirty look.
"Welcome," Sugoroku greeted as someone entered the shop.
"Is this where you live, Yugi-kun," Seto's voice caused Amelia to look back at the entrance, "oh, Crawford-san you shop here?"
"Of course, Mutou-san has some interesting and older games for sale," She stated and Yugi looked between the two.
"Are you guys playing duel monsters?" Seto asked as he ignored her words, much to her annoyance.
"Yeah! Kaiba, do you play it?" Jounouchi asked, "Maybe you should play with us tomorrow."
"With you?" Seto questioned as he looked to the side, "I don't think you are good enough to play against me."
"Oh?" Amelia quietly asked and Ryou wisely moved away and back to the figures.
"There's no way beginners can win against me, you aren't cut out to duel me," Kaiba said as he moved towards the counter, "I was the champion in the duel monsters tournament! And I have collected nothing but strong cards."
"Strong cards are good and all, but they are worthless when there's no strategy involved," Amelia stated, "remember that Kaiba-san."
Blue eyes narrowed at her and she easily kept eye contact with him. She wouldn't back down from him, it didn't matter if he slightly towered over her. She was used to Jounouchi, so the extra height didn't mean much. She narrowed her eyes and he seemed surprised at the silent challenge. She had defeated a third year in a game of strength, she could possibly beat Seto in a game of wills. Her deck could beat the Blue Eyes with relative ease. Wall of Disruption, if he had all three Blue Eyes on the field then they lost 800 attack points for each one. For a total of three that would take them from 3000 each to 600. He'd end up defeated if he went against her. It was a deck of power against one of traps and spells. Pure strategy.
"Tch, he ticks me off," Jounouchi growled and Anzu frowned at the brunette who was glaring at Amelia.
"Old man, do you sell card here? And do you buy cards?" Seto asked as he pushed his way through the friends.
"Say excuse me, it costs you nothing," Amelia hissed and Anzu pulled her friend away from a possible fight.
"Don't start a fight with him," Anzu warned, and Amelia deflated a bit, "you're usually calmer than this, what's wrong?"
"His manners are deplorable," Amelia quietly answered, "I guess the way he treats other duellists bothers me."
The sudden slam of the metal briefcase on the counter caused the two girls to jump in surprise. Amelia frowned, it seemed as though Seto had noticed the Blue Eyes card. He was sweating as he looked at the card and she raised a slight brow. She didn't understand his obsession with owning all Blue Eyes cards. Did it come from buried memories in his soul? She wondered about that. Kuriboh flew around Seto and pulled at his uniform and did its best to make him uncomfortable.
"Old man, for that Blue Eyes White Dragon card I will trade all of mine!" Seto exclaimed.
"Amazing!" Anzu and Ryou said in unison.
"Nah," Sugoroku declined Seto's offer.
"A worthy declination," Amelia said in amusement.
"It was even more amazing," Jounouchi and Honda stated.
"Why not?" Seto asked Sugoroku as he ignored the peanut gallery.
"You must really want this card, Kaiba-kun," Sugoroku stated, "the reason why I want to keep this card has nothing to do with how strong it is. This card was a gift from one of my dearest friends and as such it is important to me, I would never part with it."
Seto was quiet for a few seconds before snapping the briefcase close and removing it from the counter. Yugi was a little surprised when Amelia pulled him back from the taller teens path. Her expression was one of caution. She didn't trust Seto as far as she could throw him and judging by the lack of muscle and the thin frame, he had she could possibly throw him quite far. She had her suspicions that he would go too far like he did in the manga and anime. Death-T was going to cause her some trouble, she didn't know if he'd change things or have them remain the same.
"I understand, goodbye," Seto stated as he briskly walked out of the store.
"Ji-chan doesn't need rare cards to win," Yugi happily said.
"Hey, how come you don't like Kaiba?" Jounouchi questioned Amelia as she started to help him figure out a strategic deck out of the booster packs he had purchased.
"There's something off about him, sort of like the shop owner of the Junk Scorpion," She answered as she added Mirror Force to his deck with a thoughtful expression, "I might ask Tou-san if he knows anything about Kaiba-san, something about him never losing rubs me the wrong way."
"Oh, is it because you and Yugi never seem to lose at games?" Jounouchi teased and Honda muttered in thought as he looked through his own cards.
"No, we lose all the time," She stated with a frown sent his way as she added a Warrior card to his deck, "it's the way that we would handle the loss that makes me worry about him. He seems like the type to never take a loss with grace."
"Kind of like Jounouchi," Honda joked and the blonde in question sent him a glare.
Amelia gave a light laugh at that and Jounouchi elbowed her in the side, which made her laughter worse instead of stopping it. He huffed and grabbed the finished deck from her and looked through it. His trap cards were ones that lowered the attack of his opponent's monsters or sent the attack back at them. His spells gave his monsters more attack points and defence points. She geared him a tactical warrior deck with dragons mixed in, she couldn't believe that he had pulled so many cards from the booster packs. She remembered getting four cards from booster packs as a kid, she would've lost her shit as a kid if she'd been able to create decks with just boosters.
"Mia-chan, does this deck work?" Ryou asked as he looked over his fiend deck.
She got up from the floor and moved to look over his shoulder. He moved through the cards at a speed that she'd be able to read them. Her brows raised in surprise at the well-structured deck but understood that Ryou knew how to strategize. His experience in tabletop RPG's serving him well. She nodded her admiration of his deck and he smiled to himself. If she didn't have anything to say about them, then they were good. She took a quick glance at the clock and excused herself to go home, she needed to do her weekly call with her father. Suzuki was out of the house and as such there was no one there to give background commentary or glares.
"Oh, Hello Amelia darling!" Pegasus greeted in a happy voice and she blanched for a few seconds.
"Hello, dad," She greeted back, "I'm guessing the sales in Japan are above what was predicted?"
"Above and beyond my dear," He answered, and she could almost see the smile on his face, "how is your schooling going?"
"Well, I finally got to meet Kaiba Seto," She said as she opened the fridge and grabbed a cold coffee, "he's…interesting to say the least."
"Oh? Do I have to worry about boys?" He teased and she let out a strange choking sound.
"Not at all, especially not Kaiba," She answered in all seriousness, "has he always been so prideful?"
"Kaiba-boy is one of the best duellists in the world," He answered in a serious tone, "but I suppose all the victories have finally gone to his head."
She nodded her quiet agreement, and she was surprised when the phone was handed to Mr. Crocketts. He was also asking her how her day was going and if Suzuki was satisfactory as a bodyguard. She didn't lie to him, and she knew that her dad had already informed him of her issues. She blanched when she was informed that Crocketts would be spending one week at the house to evaluate how she acted and what she did, just so they could find a better bodyguard. The fact that she spent so much time out of the house and with her friends caused her to worry a bit. What if the new bodyguard stopped her from hanging out with them? She knew her Dad wouldn't let that happen, but it was a valid worry.
"Well, I must be off my dear," Pegasus said, and she gave a slight nod that he couldn't see, "please keep up with your studies, I'm anticipating your grades."
"Of course, by dad," She said.
She hung up and tapped the antennae of the phone against her chin. He really was a supportive father figure. She knew that in the manga he had adopted sons, but she hadn't heard of them at all. In fact, she had searched them up and found they didn't exist. It was such a strange change but an oddly welcomed one. She had siblings, and she didn't want anymore. It was selfish, but she was very aware of that fact. She sighed and headed up to her room. She needed to practice her spell work; she was still working on the shield spell. She was trying to keep it up for more than five minutes, so far, she was able to do so for three and a half. She was a work in progress.
Mahad watched over her practice to make sure she didn't cause any damage with her spell work. She nervously kept up the shield as he tossed small items at it. The items bounced off the kite shield and she flinched at the sounds they made as they clattered to the floor. The clattering was deafening in the silence surrounding them. He held up a hand as he looked at the clock and she slowly disintegrated the shield. She had met her time quota. She sighed in slight relief before he opened the tome up to a different spell.
"Swords of light?" She quietly read out loud, "It sounds like the spell card."
"This spell gave birth to that card," Mahad answered as he brought the tips of his index fingers together before quickly pulling them a part.
Amelia paused as she saw the shimmering sword made of light. It had appeared out of thin air. He placed the sword tip down on the ground and looked to her. Right, she needed to make the spell happen as well. She scoured the page and frowned slightly. It was similar to the shield spell but asked for a different shape to be made. This one also had physical actions appointed to It. It gave her a wonderful, but awful idea. Honda gets stuck by one of the blocks in Death-T. She could save him, but she wouldn't be able to save herself if she did. It was a sacrifice she was willing to pay. Amelia knew her friends would be mad by her actions, but she didn't care. She'd protect them to the best of her abilities like she promised to do for the Pharaoh. She put the tips of her index fingers together and repeated the same jerking motion that Mahad had done. The sword roared the life before quickly fizzling away. She felt lightheaded and braces herself against her desk to try and regain her balance.
"Perhaps light magic would be better," Mahad quietly muttered, "once someone learns light magic, dark magic comes as second nature."
Amelia paused as her mind flashed her images of the small silent magician. In her minds eye the red eyed child looked up at her before giving a cheeky wink and placing her index finger against her lips. What did that mean? She had no clue what the duel monster was insinuating. The small girl then performed the spell she had just tried and then motioned for her to do so.
Mahad watched as his student paused for a few seconds before retrying the spell. He was about to stop her when the sword roared to life once more but kept its form and glow. The was different than his, magic always did have a personality to it. He could feel the light coming from it. A true white mage, but one that had a connection to the shadows. How? White mages rarely learned dark magic due to their very nature, yet the gods brought his student to him. What need did she have to learn such forms of magic? Those needs worried him a bit before he caught his student by the back of her school blazer. He placed her in her bed and Kuriboh quickly joined her. It was a normal situation simply due to her low magical control. She had a lot of power, but not enough control over it to keep practising for hours.
Amelia looked at the playing field before her and crossed her arms across her chest. Jounouchi had decided to challenge her to Duel Monsters and he was seeing just how difficult of an opponent she was. Black Magician Girl was on the field and she could hear Mana giggling as Jounouchi's zombie card was taken off the field. Ryou looked over her hand as she contemplated the next card to place. It was a decent hand with a few spells and traps that would make it impossible to defeat her. He was glad that he had gone up against Anzu, at least then it was an even fight.
"This is over, Jounouchi-kun," Amelia stated, "adding black pendant to Black Magician Girl gives her an extra five hundred attack points, when attacking your knight, she brings your life points to zero."
"I lost!" Jounouchi exclaimed as he gently placed his forehead against the desk, "How are you this good?"
"I like strategy games," Amelia simply shrugged as Kuriboh flew around in celebration of her victory.
"It might be that you suck at this game," Honda teased Jounouchi as he wrapped an arm around his friends' shoulder, only to start a fight between the two.
Amelia shook her head as she gathered her cards up and placed them into her bag. She didn't miss Seto walking up to Yugi and talking with him. A card came out into play and she narrowed her eyes slightly when it was switched with a fake. Ryou narrowed his eyes as well having noticed the switch. It had been quick, but obvious. He shared a look with his redheaded friend, and she nodded her agreement. They'd get the card back from Seto. There were too many witnesses to the action.
She wondered if it was a good idea as they stood on the roof top. This was more like the Toei animation than the manga. Amelia bit the inside of her cheek in a nervous manner before mustering as much false bravado as she could. Honda and Jounouchi had noticed the switch as well, and they weren't about to let Seto get away with stealing from their friend. The brunette in question seemed somewhat amused by their actions.
"Give back the card you stole from Yugi-kun," Amelia stated, and everyone turned to her in slight disbelief, "I'm not going to beat around the bush, here's a group of witnesses that saw you switch it with a fake."
"I don't know what you're talking about," Seto stated as he tried to play innocent, "I don't know how the public will take knowing that the daughter of Duel Monsters is trying to accuse the duel monsters number one duellist of stealing."
"Oh, I would apologise if I turned out to be wrong, but I'm right in this instance," She stated as she refused to mentally back down from this conversation.
"Just return the card," Jounouchi stated, "we won't say anything to anybody if you do."
"Jounouchi-kun is right, there's no need to get anyone else involved," Ryou added.
"I can't believe you are all making such a bit deal about one card," Seto stated and Jounouchi moved to hit him.
The blonde doubled over in pain as a bodyguard came out of nowhere and slammed a fist into his stomach. The others were just as unlucky. Fists met flesh and Seto smirked at the obvious pain on their face. He narrowed his eyes at the one person he couldn't really harm too much without repercussions. Amelia had been knocked out to stay out of the fight. He was slightly surprised when Yugi appeared and took one look at the state of his friends and frowned.
"Oh, Yugi-kun," Seto tried to greet in a friendly manner.
"They asked you to return my card, didn't they?" Yugi quietly asked as he didn't look away from his friends, "please return it."
"Here I thought you'd be one of the few to understand," Seto smirked as he nodded to his bodyguard.
The large man moved to take care of Yugi and picked him up by the back of his uniform. Seto left the roof before the first blow. Amelia came around just as the first punch landed into her friend's stomach. She slowly got up to her feet and caught her balance as she stumbled slightly. The bodyguard wasn't prepared for the first to his face by the smaller girl and he stumbled backwards as his co-workers moved to intercept the small heiress. She ducked under a pair of hands reaching for her and used the owner's own momentum to throw them into the others. She was surprised when the men stopped and simply dropped to the ground of their own accord.
"Why is it when there's trouble you always seem to be involved?"
Amelia gave a sheepish laugh at that question and shrugged. Yami shook his head in disbelief before looking over the injuries that his host's friends had. There was less damage done to Amelia than the others. Her face had one bruise and she was rubbing at a spot on her head that felt sore. He poked at the bruise on her face, and she flinched away from his touch. The kuriboh that followed her everywhere gave him a glare before nuzzling into her face.
"I need an officiator," He stated, and she gave him a strange look.
"I…for a game? Because it would take me a while to get the right credentials to be able to officiate marriages," She said and he wondered just how hard her head had been hit, "I…I will definelty need sleep after this."
He simply grabbed her wrist and started to chase after Seto. He was going to game the other boy for the damage done to his friends and the card he stole. She trailed behind him and was amazed at the speed he got. He was shorter than her, but ran just as fast. They hurried down the stairs and Seto turned at the loud noise racing towards him. His eyes narrowed in distaste at the two. He simply put his hand into his pocket and tightened his grip on his briefcase, the action not going unnoticed by Amelia.
"Let's play a game," Yami stated, and the confidence caused Seto to pause for a few seconds.
"Fine, I'll accept your challenge," Seto said and soon the three were sitting in a classroom, "Mia-chan should've warned you against duelling me."
"Keep my pretty name out of your mouth," Amelia hissed at him, "we aren't friends Kaiba-san."
Kaiba laughed and she narrowed her eyes at him. He thought her request was funny. Yami watched as she stopped her mounting anger at the brunette and instead gave him a scrutinizing look. She was finally noticing the darkness that seemed to emanate from the taller teen. How did she miss that? Kuriboh let out a quiet chirp and stared at the brunette as well, it didn't like Seto, and she didn't blame it.
"Please, tell the rules," Yami told Amelia and she spared him a glance before nodding.
"This game will be different than the one you're used to," Amelia informed Seto, "you'll understand the moment you place a card. You two will be playing with the rules from the last tournament, is that all right for everyone here?"
"Fine by me," Seto said and Yami simply nodded.
"Right, each player starts with two thousand life points, the first to zero loses," Amelia stated as the two got out their decks, "the first sign of cheating and you're out."
Yami got a look, and he knew that went for him as well. He gave her a slight smirk and she rolled her eyes in response. Her pale cheeks turned a light pink and Kuriboh bumped against her cheek in amusement. She was glad that someone found her embarrassment entertaining. She blanched when she felt something burning her wrist. She looked own to see the bracelet that Mahad had given her glowing. That was new. Kuriboh stopped bumping into her cheek and looked down at it in confusion. Why was it doing that? Did she need to question Mahad about it next time she practiced magic with him? She decided on doing that and seeing if he knew what his future self had given her. He might have no idea what it was, but could find out what it did.
"I draw," Seto stated as he picked up a new card, "I play the level five card, Gargoyle."
He placed the card down on the table and purple smoke billowed from it as the monster from the illustration rose before them. Two pairs of eyes widened in amazement at the sight. Amelia had known what the shadow game was doing, but she wasn't expecting it to be so amazing. Kuriboh hid behind her at the sight of the larger monster that could easily hurt it, and her nose wrinkled at the horrid stench drifting off the monster. Yami smirked at the shift in emotions and facial features.
"The card came alive?" Seto quietly asked.
"Like I said, this is a whole new game," Yami stated and Seto turned to Amelia, much to the two friend's confusion.
"This would make the game infinitely better," Seto exclaimed, and the redhead seemed taken aback by his attitude, "the amount of profit from this idea would be exponential for both of our companies."
"Er…you aren't wrong about that," She muttered as she thought about it, "I would talk to Tou-san more than me for that."
"My turn," Yami said butting into the conversation, it was obvious that Amelia was a bit uncomfortable by the shift in his emotions, "I play Dark Dagon and attack your gargoyle."
"Why do they all smell?" Amelia muttered to herself in thought and Kuriboh answered her, "Oh, then why do you smell like a warm springs day?"
"Who are you talking to, Mia-chan?" Seto asked with a frown.
"None of your concern I'd be more worried that your card is disappearing," She pointed out as Kuriboh explained the reason why it smelt so nice.
It enjoyed rolling around in flowers and then collecting them, always had. The lamb tokens were like that as well, and she adored it. They were all precious and she didn't even have to explain herself when she sent in the artwork for them. Her Dad just understood it, he got the hype behind cute monsters. It was strange talking to someone who was like her in that department.
"Why is my card disappearing?" Seto questioned as sweat began to gather on his brow.
"Those are the rules of a shadow game," Yami answered, "now your life points drop from two thousand to fifteen hundred."
"Whoever loses has to face a penalty game," Amelia added, and she felt her bracelet turn scalding hot, but she couldn't remove it without having to ask some serious questions.
"This is fun!" Seto stated and Amelia backed up a little away from him and towards Yami, "This could be the ultimate duel to the death!"
"…Who hurt you?" Amelia quietly asked and he simply glared at her.
"It's your turn to draw a card!" Yami stated as he got the attention away from her, he shot her a dirty look, and she gave him an apologetic one in response.
"Okay," Seto stated as he drew and then smirked at the card, "I play Minotaurus, the rare beast soldier card!"
The large monster from the card didn't smell half as bad as Yami's or the Gargoyle. Amelia had her arms full of a scared Kuriboh that was trying to get under her uniform blazer to hide. The sudden movement was distracting, and she placed a hand on top of its head. The shadow games involving the card game caused her some distress she couldn't imagine how bad it was for the small monster.
"My Minotaurus is superior to you dark dragon in both defence and attack!" Seto stated, "No matter how much it struggles your card can't beat me! Go! Minotaurus, tear that dragon limb from limb."
Minotaurus's sword went right through Dark Dragon and the monster let out a harsh screech as it started to dissolve. It was horrible to watch, and Amelia fought the need to look away. She believed that fighting with holograms was better than fighting with real monsters. She held Kuriboh closer and found comfort from the small monster. A light mage made more sense now that she thought about it. Maybe Mahad had been right about her.
"This is great!" Seto exclaimed as he watched the card vanish from the table, "Your monster can't even make mine twitch. The difference in attack points was two hundred."
"Then my life points drop by two hundred," Yami said as Seto basically cackled for a few seconds.
"Now, draw your next card!" Seto ordered, "Though I doubt you'll draw anything that can beat my Minotaurus."
Yami drew a card and he placed down the Holy Elf and put it in defence mode. The defence points were higher than Minotaurus's attack points, so he was safe for the next turn, unless Seto drew a card that was stronger. Amelia bit the inside of her cheek and stared at the cards as both monsters were placed in defence mode. She heard the Holy Elf praying to herself and the words made her feel a bit better. The magic or trap card being placed on the field caused her worry to increase. Yami drew Wight and Seto took his turn to activate his magic card Giant Transformation. That brought Minotaurus from 1700 to 2040.
"Now, I attack your Holy Elf!" Seto exclaimed, "I'll make it a blood offering!"
Amelia once again wondered who hurt him. She knew his adoptive father was a horrible person, but just how played down in the manga and show was it? Kuriboh was giving him a strange look and even Yami seemed unnerved by the obvious blood lust coming from the taller teen.
"Next to go is your wight!" Seto stated.
"You can only attack with a single monster once per turn unless the card has a stated effect where it says otherwise," Amelia spoke up and the Minotaurus stopped in it's tracks and knelt.
Seto made an annoyed expression and he sent it her way. She simply stared him down, and he slowly smirked at her. Her nose crinkled and she looked over at Yami, his expression was one of fury. She wondered what had set him off. He had been angry, but the fury emanating from his was palpable. She'd reach over and place a hand on his shoulder to get him to calm down, but that could be seen as outside interference. She caught his attention, and his shoulder slumped a little before he returned his attention back to the duel at hand. She made a face as they took turns and monster after monster fell to Minotaurus. Yami's life points were at 500 while Seto's was still at 1500. Seto was smirking at him, and Amelia tried to remind herself that Yami would pull through like he always did. She smiled when he finally pulled a stronger card.
"I place Deamons Summoning and use it to defeat your Minotaurus!" Yami stated,.
"How can you have one of the rarest cards?!" Seto exclaimed as Deamons Summoning started to charge up it's attack.
"Deamon lightning!" Yami exclaimed.
Amelia watched as the lightening grew brighter as it powered up in the skeletons large hands. She winced as the intensity burned her eyes. Yami seemed unbothered by it as did Seto. She was starting to feel as though neither of them were human. She rubbed at her eyes as she did the mental math. Seto was at 800 life points, all that was needed now was a lower level monster and Yami would win. She frowned in thought. Was she forgetting…right he cheats at this juncture!
"And now the card I drew, the Blue Eyes White Dragon," Seto stated and her eyes widened slightly.
She hadn't been able to stop his cheating and the dragon appeared with a loud roar. She could smell the scent of fresh water and irises. There was also the soft crying of a woman. Amelia looked up towards the dragon and her heart went out to it. The blue eyes was in a similar situation as Mahad, but she couldn't talk or communicate.
"My next attack will be my last!" Seto announced and Amelia closed her eyes before smiling softly at Kisara, "Now Blue Eyes! Attack Deamons Summoning!"
Yami watched as the monster stared down his before refusing to fight. It started to slam its head against the table and he heard a sharp intake of breath from Amelia at the sight. He looked over at her and noted the horrified expression on her face as the dragon continued to slam its head until it dissolved.
"Why did it…" Seto trailed off a strange sadness filling him before he abruptly brushed it away, "What kind of trick is this?!"
"That Blue Eyes didn't have your heart in it, but my Ji-chans," Yami answered, "you foolishly thought this Blue Eyes would disregard its loyalty to my Ji-chan, and destroy me. Did it do a good job?"
Kuriboh let out a soft sound of sorrow as it peeked out from the blazer. Amelia had to agree with it. The way that Blue Eyes had destroyed herself had been horrible to watch. She brought a hand up to her mouth and covered to keep herself from saying anything.
"It's my turn, I had a magic card placed last turn and now I use it," Yami stated as he showed which one it had been, "I use monster reborn to bring back the Blue Eyes White Dragon."
The white dragon reappeared and this time it sent Seto a glare before reaching down to nuzzle Amelia's hair. Right, she once ran a blue eyes deck when she was a child. Did that mean the monster remembered her? She looked up when amused laughter hit her ears. She did! Kisara remembered her where other monsters forgot. That was incredible.
"Considering the fact that he cheated, I'd much rather see him face defeat by this card," Amelia quietly said as the Blue Eyes moved back and let out a roar of agreement.
"As you wish," Yami stated as he then proceeded to attack Seto with the card.
A bright light engulfed the room and she barely caught "now the penalty game" before everything returned to normal. Seto sat in his chair looking like an empty husk and she picked up the card that held his soul. He looked terrified but she didn't feel too bad for him. His own actions brought this down upon him. She placed the card in his pocket before moving towards a silent Yami. Kuriboh was still hiding in her blazer but seemed to have grown comfortable with it inside.
"You all right?" She quietly asked.
"Fine, I just need to make sure Ji-San gets his card back," He said as he turned to look at her.
He narrowed his eyes at the bruise covering her forehead and right cheek. He grabbed onto her wrist again and she was slowly growing tired of being dragged places. She was tempted to put her foot down and have him tell her why he seemed so angry. She watched as he thought to himself before turning her attention towards the empty school yard. He was leaving the school grounds for some reason and she frowned in confusion. He didn't stop until they were halfway towards the game shop and her home. Amelia waited to hear his explanation.
"You don't have to step in and protect me," He stated and her eyes widened in surprise as he looked away from her in embarrassment.
"It's all right, I'd do it for all my friends," Amelia informed him as she placed a gentle hand on his shoulder, "besides, danger likes coming Yugi-kun's way I'm not about to let him face that alone."
"You'll Just break its nose," He said in slight amusement.
She gave a soft chuckle at that before rubbing the back of her head and feeling a nasty bump. Yami picked up her hand again, pulling her in the direction of her house. She didn't mind, but wondered how she was going to explain it to Yugi when the neighbours began tittering and asking when they started dating. Oddly enough, she had never fully formed a crush on Yugi just Atem. It wasn't the looks, but the personality. Yugi was Someone for her to protect at all costs, but he wasn't someone she viewed romantically. It was rather strange how her mind worked.
"Will Kaiba-San learn from this?" Amelia quietly asked as she forced her mind to focus on other things.
"It's up to him, you seem to understand his personality better than I," Yami pointed out.
"Well, then he won't," She sighed, "he comes off as such a good sport but it always falls flat when he starts to sense that he's losing."
Yami nodded at that and came to a stop outside her front door. She gave him a gentle smile before unlocking it and stepping inside. He smirked back and her cheeks became a light pink before the door closed fully. He outwardly chuckled as he left to return to his hosts home. That girl was something else.
