Levi

Days after lunch at the newly opened garden, Levi kept himself active in assisting Yeager's new titan hardening skills. He spent all his time in training to forget about the things that him a headache. It helped him a lot.

He was too occupied to remember the scene that transpired at the garden. The Rals, Gideon, Erwin and Hange, and Historia who was wearing that blue dress.

These days, he's too occupied to think back to the things that transpired that day, since he's always up for planning things and the gravity of the preparation for the next operation kept the commander and Hange out of his way. He didn't anticipate that facing the Rals would happen that day, he was way too unprepared to face them and answer all their questions and request.

Right now, he's resting at the training hall, preparing himself to leave. He was cooling down his body after sweating himself for three hours at the boxing range, sparring with the scout who had the nerve to stand against him at the ring. He removed the fabric that covers his hands, while sweat was leaking from his forehead and to his bared chest.

Until he noticed Erwin entered the room and all of the scouts in the place stopped to give their attention to the commander. As Levi observed, Erwin didn't come here to train obviously, since he's wearing his usual brown jacket uniform. The commander roamed his cold eyes around until it stopped in his direction. He saw him.

Levi immediately turned his head away, for not wanting to be found. As far as he can remember, if the commander is here to talk about some progress about Eren, then he would just tell him to talk in his office, he was about to report to the commander to share their activities with Eren, but this time was different. If the Commander ever comes to you, it means that he had something to talk to you about something else. Something that was not related to the plans...

Something personal.

The scouts in the training room turned to the Commander, he knew that Erwin signaled them to leave since they all nodded and packed their things and left the room in a matter of seconds.

Levi just acted as if it was all nothing. He didn't bother to meet the Commander's eyes.

"There you are, I thought you went somewhere else." he stood beside from where he is sitting. "Hange told me you skipped your meal again this morning. I didn't see you grabbing your food at the mess hall." He smirked while his eyes were steady on him.

"I'm way too full to eat a lot these days. . ." He replied while wiping his neck with a towel.

"Hmm, well, I hope it wouldn't bother you if we discuss other things this time?" Erwin marked a half-smile on his stern face...

"My ears are open." he continued to wipe his shoulders with a towel.

"I see that this is the right time to bring the other things up, Levi, Since the day you left us in the garden, you made sure not to see me and Hange for four days. And you just made Historia wonder what's going on with you and the Rals," he said.

Levi lowered his head to hide his guilty face.

"What did she say" it might be embarrassing to ask, but the Queen's opinion matters to him. He was supposed to be there until the lunch end.

"She left eventually and didn't ask questions. But she was bothered. I spoke with Pedro and Wena and they said that you're not interested in their request."

"Blaming me wouldn't change the fact that you set me up with them without informing me. I thought you're fond of talking things over before making the next move and that was notifying me about what's going to happen." He stood and glanced up to Erwin who is now looking down at him with that

"I know you will refuse. we've been busy these days that we almost forgot about the people we owed a lot outside the regiments.

But Levi, they're not just ordinary people to you. Don't ignore them because they're not like us who had to endure every pain after a sudden death. So they feel more vulnerable and can't go on if they can't find closure."

Ever since he was a child, he grew being ruthless in killing people, he treats everyone cold, but he's not that hard as a stone to not feel sympathy. He wants to talk with the Rals and establish a good relationship with them, but because of his misfortunes, he had no choice but to turn himself away from them. There's a good reason why he fell for this woman and he wants to keep their promise even if she was already gone. "I can't."

Erwin's face softens and smiled gently at him.

"Then just talk to them and explain that your intentions are good."

"My explanation will not be enough to convince them, I don't want to argue, that was why I avoided them. I want to avoid discussing their pleas because, in the end, I will surely give in on their request to cut ties with me. But I can't do that, I hope you understand." Levi immediately walked straight towards the door without glancing at Erwin. "I'll just see you at your office, Erwin."

"There's only one way to solve your problem," Erwin said in a serious tone, Levi stopped before he passes through the door to listen..."Talk to the Queen and ask her to execute a hearing concerning this issue, before it goes out of hand..." He continued

Levi's eyes widened when he heard his answer.

"First of all, my situation was never a problem. You're just making it sound complicated." he turned to say directly to Erwin "I can't open up with Historia, she's way too young to handle my issue..." He explained. "And she won't comprehend if that's what you expect. I would rather be dismissed from being a captain than removing the Rals from their residence." he crossed his arms and leaned at the wall.

The option that Erwin was suggesting was great, but Levi doesn't think that it will be a good idea to reveal his issues to her. He's not ready to open up about his concerns with the Rals, given that if he won't take action, the Rals will surely still extend their concern to Zackary or the Queen themselves.

"If you will open up to the Queen, she won't allow them to leave and you won't be dismissed." Erwin leaned on the wall beside the doorstep where Levi was standing. "Talk to her, Levi. The officials may not understand, but the Queen may. She can help you."

"so you want me to tell the dear queen about my relationship with Petra?"

"Yes."

Levi shook his head. "That sounds bad "

"Why are you holding back?" Erwin raised an eyebrow with that sarcastic look on his face.

"It's biased. Erwin, in my opinion, asking for the Queen's consideration without giving regards to the bureaucrats above me won't give me a good impression, they will feel disrespected. I don't need her help." He placed the towel on his shoulders while placing his one hand on the door frame.

"That's right, But even if you let the officials know, they would never give a damn about your situation. You will end up removing the Rals in their residence, and you will be dismissed. You forgot that Historia can conduct a hearing for cases like this. The Queen can hear any pleadings as long as she likes and officials can't do anything about it if we don't let other people know... The Queen is allowed to execute hearings exclusively in her chamber if she chose to. We can bring this matter in the presence of Her Majesty, and it will be a win-win situation. No scandal, no hassle." Erwin raised an eyebrow; he's expecting him to agree.

"Does the Queen handle military business concerns? I even doubt if she has read all the books that you recommended." He remembered that he caught her reading a novel book one time in the conference room instead of listening at the meeting.

"Judgment doesn't just rely on the book of law itself, Levi."

"I also believe that. But she's too young to understand, I don't want to burden the kid-"

"Historia's not that young in the eyes of the people who looked up to her Levi. I thought you had thought about it before you pushed her to sit as a queen? You didn't mind that she's too young, all we did was to place a rightful leader who had true royal blood on their veins above all else, despite the lack of experience and being just a kid in your eyes." the Commander slapped all the words on his face. Ok, he gets his point, but he doesn't have to be so deep to remind him that he fought with Historia to place her on the throne.

"I remember all of it, Commander--"

"Or are you afraid that she might hear about Petra?" Erwin cut him off, his eyes wondered with suspicion...

"Yeah Erwin, how absurd.." He looked away; here they are again, saying nonsense about his involvement with her.

"Ok...Then here it is. Take my advice and talk to her." Erwin placed his hand on Levi's shoulder. Levi glanced at it and thought about what he said.

Will he agree to bring things up to Historia?

"Well, for now, I will think about that. But still, I am not sure about telling her personally. There must be another way to solve this without the Queen getting involved." Levi sighed.

"Things are different in my point of view Levi. I don't want the Rals to ruin your name for it will also ruin our regiment. How do you think will officials from other regiments react when they know that you allowed a pregnant woman to be killed in the field? The consequences still reflect on the Survey Corps."

Of course, it's about it all this time. Then he must have been so thoughtless all this time, thinking that they were just meddling in with his problems.

" I see. I will try my chance."

"Whatever you may think is better. You don't have to attend the meeting tomorrow. You have to see her." Erwin reminded him.

"The squad will go without me. I'm staying for the meeting."

Erwin raised a brow "so when are you going to talk to her?"

Levi makes a tch sound and squared his jaw.

"I don't know, maybe after killing Reiner and Bertolt?"

"Levi. . ." Again he glanced at him with a dark serious face, he didn't agree with his answer. "I don't have much time to spare for helping you this and for you to manage this, I want you to get things done right away, and I mean, tomorrow. While we're all here, living and breathing." Erwin said in front of his face with that commanding face of him.

Then walked down the corridor, leaving him at the doorstep of the training hall... Levi felt strange upon hearing what he said but in his own opinion, he is desperate to settle this matter in his way.

"I heard that Pedro will give her a visit one of these days. So it will be better if you'll talk to Historia before the Rals can explain their side. Wena's a little bit desperate this time. ." The Commander continued to walk and turn his head to him, revealing his pointy nose. After saying these things, Levi can see the dimples on Erwin's cheek and mild laughter.

Levi was curling his fist while following the commander's footsteps. Erwin was smirking on his way outside the training hall.

The Commander was stirring his personal life. What a man.

Levi leaned at the doorstep when he felt that he's finally alone. He felt hopeless realizing that things about him and the Rals had gone too far this time. Now he has to go and talk to the Young Queen about a certain consideration to save his ass and the Rals.

Honestly, he hates opening this up to anyone because this is his private life, he can't imagine sharing this with Historia. He can't afford to see that she's going to hear such an issue about her so-called Captain who's been so hard on subordinates when it comes to responsibilities. He doesn't want to ruin his image... Or his pride either.

Especially to the person who looks up to him.

He can't imagine how Historia will stare at him when he opens up about how reckless her former Captain was. She had her problems to face and he won't add his shit for the kid to manage.

Levi believed that he's a capable person; he helped many people and dedicated his life to humanity, he keeps himself away from personal conflicts, he never imagined himself getting caught in a mess but here he was, getting to see the Queen ask for support.

He scraped his finger on his hair. "Damn it."

He went back inside the gym and went straight to the heavy bag. He needs to punch on something to cool and relax his head because tomorrow will be another hell for him.

Levi didn't sleep that night until it was already sunrise. He's thinking again and again. And as he tried to to close his eyes and sleep, all he could think about was his anxiety in telling Historia about Petra, and Erwin's concern just gave him a headache all night long since he told him that there's no other option. He thought about it all night since he doesn't want another conflict to arise after he decides to move for a solution.

So he has to go and see Historia today to discuss his reckless history with his squad member.

As the sun heats his room, he prepared his things and went to shower. After thirty minutes he was already at the stable and so was his new set of the squad.

"Goodmorning Captain."Arlert greeted him with a smile on his smart face, looks like they were in a good mood except for him.

"Hmm..." he flatly replied as he was not in a mood to be polite this day. It will be a difficult shitty day for him to manage.

Everybody's here, they were buckling up, the others were busy preparing themselves while Eren just sat on the top of a sack starring at his palms. Levi can see how Mikasa steals a glance at the green eyes brat while doing her task, he knows that Ackerman was always on guard on her so-called brother or whatever the two of them could be. Too bad that it's a one-sided interest for these brats.

He felt bad for her since Yeager doesn't give a damn about how the girl looks at him this entire time. On the other side, he caught Kirstein's glimpse of Mikasa. Well, the same goes for Jean, he showed concern to Ackerman but ends up fighting with Eren. They were all fighting for their way, while his pathway as a Captain was different.

Been there, done that. He had the girl and fucked with her, and now, he's picking up the pieces from the mess that he made.

Levi narrowed his gaze to the shifter who was so silent at the corner since he's always spacing out whenever he has time to spare.

"Eren! Prepare your horse." Levi made sure that his voice would reach Eren's ears, loud enough to shake his bones since he was startled by his sudden call. Levi was seating at the wooden box while drinking his tea. All of his squad was preparing their horses as if they had any idea where will they go this day.

All of them were here now so Levi decided to brief them for today's activity. "Prepare your horses. We will visit the Queen today at the orphanage."

Suddenly all of the six brats paused and looked at him with a confused look on their face. "But Captain, you said that we will attend the meeting with the Commander, it's about the strategy, right?" Connie spoke behind Jean.

"The Commander told us to visit Historia. Had a problem with that?" He replied without looking at them. He stood up and glanced at them giving them a dark look.

"N-no, not at all Captain!" Connie replied with a tone of regret in his voice. But Levi felt annoyed now that they were still looking at him as if they were still waiting for his command.

"Well, don't delay! We don't have all day!" He yelled to them.

"Got it, sir!" They all responded and scrambled back to their tasks. Eren went to his horse beside Mikasa. Sasha placed the potato on her mouth while her hands were on the straps of her uniform. At least, she's still productive.

Levi went inside the HQ and placed the cup on the sink. He guessed that he can't disguise his mood for today, he's in a bad shape and distracted, he admits that he was never out of his composure before, but right now, he was fucking nervous.

But. . he remembered that Erwin told him. He must try to talk to Historia...

"Hey!! You out to see the Queen now!!!!" Levi heard a voice from the outside. It seemed to lighten up the mood of everyone from his squad except him. Great, now he thought that he could leave the headquarters peacefully.

"Section Commander! You're coming with us?" It was Eren's voice from the outside. Levi stayed in the kitchen and stood behind the door. He doesn't feel good about showing himself to four eyes. For sure her babbling mouth would say something annoying to his part.

"Nah, I'm just here to deliver the goods that you'll bring to the orphanage. The children may need it there."

Levi sneaked at the window to look if Hange's telling the truth. Well, at least he can see the loaded wagon parked in front of them.

"So we will get to see Historia today? For real?" Armin sounded excited on Levi's ears.

The kid always shows his regard for Historia, which brings Levi's brows together.

He's too honest to spout out his admiration to their sweet and cute colleague, just like how Armin described her before her identity as Rod's hair loom revealed. "Tch"

Levi thrust outside the door and faced Hange and Armin, to remind them that his existence was still there.

"Definitely for real Arlert. I'm glad you finally realized that it was not a lie." He fed him with his dangerous look. How dare this blonde clever brat don't believe him?

Armin just smiled nervously at him and looked away. Mikasa approach to tap Armin's shoulder, as Levi rolled his eyes away. "Brause, Springer, you have the wagon, Jean and Arlert, you go front base, Ackerman, Yeager, you stay at the back and I'll take the end line. Be sure to carry your packs with you, we'll stay there till tomorrow." He headed to his horse

"Yes, Sir!"

All of them replied.

"Now, now. . . Levi, I got something for you to hand it out to the Queen, I brought a new book for her to read and a special tea. Be sure to hand it to her personally." Hange approached and handed him a box. It was not that large but for sure, there's one book stored inside and with the tea. Levi just took it immediately without glancing at her

"As you wish." He grabbed it harshly.

As Levi was about to turn away, Hange's hand caught his shoulders. It was heavy enough to make him realize that her presence here was not just for nothing.

"They said, tea can help you fall asleep at night and take away migraines, you can share it with her, at night or in the --"

"Noted." He immediately shut her off, shrugging his shoulder to shoo her hands away. As always, she never failed to mock his relationship with the Queen, but for Levi's part, he's too old to accept more unwanted opinions and advice for his visitation in the orphanage.

Everybody was now on their horses and formation, now it's time for them to take off.

"Let's stride," Levi murmured the words and all of his team scrambled to move on their positions. It was one of the things that impressed him about this new set of squad, they were so attentive to his commands that they can even hear his order through whispered words.

"Send my regards to the receiver Levi! I'm counting on you!" Hange shouted as the distance between them increase.

Levi gritted his teeth, he knew that his squad will hear it and as far as he's concerned, he doesn't want them to understand the sarcasm in the section commander's tongue. They were too clever to analyze things, which explains why they became part of Levi's squad in just four months. The group can catch up with his expectations.

After two hours of saddling, Levi can finally spot the building of the orphanage, he thought about the purpose of why he was here while thinking that Historia was waiting inside the orphanage with the children. He has to find a way to talk to her alone because this must be done today and they will all move on with their expedition plans.

But unfortunately, he was not prepared to reveal his issues to Historia as he finds it so weird. His heart was beating so loud as they move closer to the location. He just prays that he will not be dumbfounded when he's in front of her.

As they arrive, he went straight to the stables while his squad went the other way with the wagon. He wants to be alone for a while to brief his mind to tell Historia about his relationship with Petra and how her death affected his relationship with her parents.

Well, he was still trembling.

Until he saw Anna from the back door of the building holding a basket with fabrics in it. He asked about the Queen's whereabouts and was told that she might be at her study. Levi didn't waste his time; he left the horse outside the stables and walked straight to the house while holding the box that Hange handed to him. He was not still so sure about talking to Historia about his concern; he doesn't know how to start the conversation if it happens. Deep inside, he was still undecided about asking the kid if she wants to deal with his problems, Levi hated the idea, he prefers to keep his mouth shut for this matter but Erwin's pushing him for this.

When he got in, he saw Jean coming in front of the kitchen; Levi knew that Kirstein was assigned to unloading the wagon, so he alone would walk in and out of the house. The rest of the squad proceeded to their tasks which are to secure the area.

"Have you seen Historia?"

Jean stopped walking and scratched his head.

"Not yet, Captain. ."

"Ok. Tell the others to see Diana and Anna. Help them out at their tasks or what is needed to be done in this house. I have to report to the Queen." He said then went on his way.

He knows where the study was, so he went to the stairs, even if he felt heavy inside, he imagined staring at Historia's clueless orbs, while he spouts out his purpose nor coming here...

Now he's standing outside her office, the door was closed. The kid's inside for sure, reading books and mails. He knocked and waited while sweat was starting to form on his forehead. He was preparing himself on how to open up. After waiting, he thought that it took her so long to hear him knocked, so he knocks louder again...

But there was no response.

Instead, the door moved and made a little opening. Upon Levi's curiosity, he moved to get in the door and slowly entered the room. The place was well furnished and the walls including the ceiling were painted in dirty white, across the door was the wide desk of the Queen, with stacked books and papers...

Historia's not here.

He roamed his eyes around. the pieces of furniture were painted in white, there were white bookshelves with all red books in them, and other bookshelves consist of green books and there are another two sets of bookshelves with blue and yellow books in them. Levi wondered what books could this be, but he's impressed about the color organization.

There's the white couch with red leather foams with the lamp at the side with a little center table in front of it. The floor is made of wood just like the other parts of the orphanage but it was properly shined and swept from the rest of the rooms. The fireplace was not lit, and there's with a green sofa in front of it, looks pleasing in Levi's eyes, this type of furniture was perfect to sleep on. He imagined himself settling in this furniture, warming himself with tea or wine. . it looks comfy for his taste.

His gaze continued to explore the room until his eyes caught the portrait that was hanged at the top of the fireplace.

The Queen's youthful face on a painted portrait with her crown and red cape, her hair was in a tidy pleat updo. Her heavenly blue eyes were painted perfectly like the artist emphasized its shape and color, it looks watery and frosty. He felt like he was looking at her eyes in person, she was wearing a smile to show a good impression, and yet, she was graciously stunning and has a face that fits for art portraits...

Levi can't stop looking at her pale blue eyes with that thick eyelashes, it stands out from the rest of her fresh features. Well, he never had the honor to stare at her blue eyes for so long in person, but somehow, he fell thankful that someone made this portrait to feast his eyes with her facial features.

She is beautiful. She got the looks.

He remembered how he met her before at the grandstand, her innocent looks stood out from the rest of the scouts, which made him remember how entertained he was at glaring at her.

But time flies so fast and they were in different positions now. she stands in front of the people with pride and strength. He started to look upon her as she became more respectable on her new military uniforms and dresses. She was already different in the way she moves around with those decent attires, he felt like he was more obliged to guide her in helping more people...

He was proud of her.

The only thing that never changed between them since the day that they held eyes together was the way her azure eyes look at him with words within them. It made him ask himself if are there other reasons that made her look at him that way. The way her eyes shift expression when he enters the room, the way she looks away when he asked her about something. And even if they had this unique bonding after she was crowned as the Queen, he was still not certain about the strange current that brings them together. He was attached to her, like...

A sister?

Tch.

Whatever it may be, He felt that he was not that deserving.

That was the weird part of their relationship, something was unknown between the two of them that draws him to her, and he was comfortable at her presence though they spent time with dead airs, he was used to that, and Levi was not that ignorant to notice that his strings were now attached to this kid.

And hell, he promised to himself to maintain consistent formal gestures with her. Civil as always.

Levi proceeds to walk towards the desk. Levi scowled as he studied the view of her desk; this table needs to be properly arranged. As books were left open and the mails were still scattered at the top of the objects, the kid must be too occupied to clean her desk.

He gathered the books aside and placed the package given by Hange at the little space of the desk, wondering if the Queen has spent her time on sending mails because it seemed that she was busy that she can't arrange her things properly...

As he explores his gaze at the objects he noticed something familiar with these letters.

And the initials just made his mind blown.

His mails. . .

The one that he sent all those weeks. They were gathered like a puzzle, his Initials we're lined up as if it was compared to the other letters. He's confused.

What is she trying to do with his letters?

Where the hell is she right now?

"Historia, I'm here." He announced inside the room, glancing at the door that was connected to her quarters. No one answered. So he continued to look at the scattered objects on the table. He felt weird about this.

Until one paper has caught his eyes.

It was crumpled and flattened, but every scape of the paper just made him realized that the letter was sent by him. He can see the strokes of the letter even if the material was wrinkled. Every, every space, every line of the ink was very familiar to him.

Why would she crumple this one?

He picked up the letter and his brows creased as he read the content.

Don't show your fucked-up face to me tomorrow, I don't have time to discuss the shit that you want, my answer's "no" so forget about the fucking group plans. Go home and wait for me to visit you, we will talk.

P.s stay safe and leave tonight, don't make me hate you.

C.A

His heart stopped as his mind started to process the history of the letter, and suddenly while looking at the paper there was an image of a familiar girl that emerged behind his handwritings. Gingered color hair with an amber eye starring at him.

Levi caught his breath as he realized what on Earth he is holding.

It was his letter to Petra.

His stomach lurched suddenly and glanced at the other letters; he wants an answer about how the fuck did this letter joined the Queen's mails. He clearly remembered that he placed this letter in Petra's stuff and sent it to her parents.

For sure, the Rals read all the letters that he sent to their daughter.

But this one?

Did they give it to Historia?

Did she know?

"Captain?"

His thoughts were cut off as he heard Historia's voice. Levi gazed at the letter that was not supposed to be included in the Queen's stuff. He switched his gaze just to meet Historia's alarmed features. She was in her usual farm dress. Her hair was ponytail in a low manner.

"What's the meaning of this?" He asked her with a great struggle to hide his pain. The letter brought back all the memories that he had with Petra. There were so many questions in his head that he doesn't know how to spout it one by one.

It was too impossible for his letter to get here and she had read this for thousands of time if he's not wrong.

As Levi stood in his place, he wanted to crumple the paper within his hands, his anger was accumulating inside him but he was controlling it.

Historia was panting while her anxious stare fix on him, Levi can see how she struggled to catch her breath, probably from running.

She was running.

"It's. ." she came near him, closing the door behind. The room was not that light as the only window behind the desk was covered with a white thin curtain, turning her eyes into grayish sky-blue, the shadows of this see-through curtain on her visage. The two of they're facing across each other with the desk filled with books and scattered letters in between.

He raised the letter.

"It's. . ." she muttered as she gazed at the paper nervously. Possibly thinking about what alibi will she use to get away with this. Levi won't go easy on her if she will give him an unacceptable reason.

"What!" He asked lifting his voice, making her small stature stutter from where she is standing. She stared at the floor, tipping down her face to hide the expression that was printed on her disturbed features while breathing heavily.

Levi doesn't want to delay as his mind was in chaos. All these years, he placed a great effort not to reveal his relationship with Petra. He was never careless; he didn't open up to Erwin, that was why he can't believe that an object like this could get passed through his gasp. Why didn't he thought about trusting the Rals in keeping these things from the public?

"I didn't remember that I sent you this letter." He tossed the letter at the desk; the content of the letter was presented in front of her. Levi found it ridiculous to imagine that she placed all the letters together just to compare them with the letter that he sent to Petra.

He doesn't know if the Rals opened up to her, but letting her use the things that belonged to Petra won't threaten him. So if they're doing it again by handing this letter to the Queen to mock him, well they are wrong about playing with his affairs.

She faced him, "I know . . , you never did. . .I. . . I admit that the letter doesn't belong to me either. I'm. . I'm sorry to ask, but are you the recipient of this letter?" she continued to ask with that furrowed eyebrows. This time she turned to him.

He breathed heavily upon hearing that line.

How interesting...

"Isn't it obvious?" He threw another question to cover up his hesitation in answering... Though his heart rate was increasing, he controlled himself from showing an outburst.

He was not certain if how much did she know, but One wrong answer could bring everything into misunderstanding. It's either he would only spill the beans or confirm a doubt. He doesn't know if the answer will bring good to the situation that he was entangled in, but Levi doesn't want to say something about him and petra.

"N-no, I assumed a different person upon seeing the initials..." she was now looking the other way, guilt invaded her face expression.

"You already recognized my handwriting, how can you be so stupid? Is that why you gathered all my mails? To compare them?"

He raised his brows.

"Y-yes." She shyly answered. She bit her lips.

Levi sighed. She was crazily honest to him that it made him think about how foolish she was.

"Tch, Now that you have your answer; it's your turn to answer me, kid. Why is my letter lying on your office desk?" He was conscious and careful about his words. . To play it safe.

"About that, I was driven by my curiosity. I found the letter in a room when Wena led me to change into clean clothes. The letter was stored in a wooden box and it was left half-open. I saw the letter and. . . . I forgot why I kept it." She answered nervously as she paced from where she is standing.

"What do you even mean by that? You're not supposed to read letters of other people? Are you out of your mind?!" He slammed his palms on the table that made the books rumble a little. Levi squared his jaw about what Erwin told him yesterday.

The Queen's not too young for this huh? How will Erwin explain this childish behavior?

"I'm sorry; I never thought that it's from you."

"It doesn't matter if I sent that letter. The problem here was you, you can't take things from other people without their permission, and do you expect me to believe that shallow reason? That you took this out of curiosity?" The Rals made her wear the dress, the ring, and now this fucking letter?

"Did they gave this to you?"

Historia's face frowned. "Excuse me? I just told you that I found this letter in a box. I was not thinking that time. I'm sorry."

Levi darken his expression and took one step closer to look her in the eyes. "I don't believe you."

"What else do you want to hear?" her tone was now firm with a nerve to raise her voice back at him like a child talking back to her parents.

He was slightly taken aback by her sudden question. What else did he want to hear from her exactly?

"The truth." he glanced away from her. Why can't she just admit that the Rals handed this letter to her.

"I won't repeat why I said.." she glared t him...

He rolled his eyes and began to press his index finger on the center of his forehead.

He knows that he has to deal with this before the Survey corps proceed to their next operation, there are other important matters that he has to deal with than wasting his time arguing with Historia...

He breathed his frustration as he had no choice but to face her. he tries to recall why he was even here in the first place... Erwin asked him to come to ask Historia for help.

But he didn't expect to see this kind of situation. he doesn't want her to know about his shit, he was against this, but it was too late. He doesn't want to spill the wrong information and at the same time, he cant confront her knowing that she would only discover why he left the garden.

She moved towards the center side of the desk and gathered all the scattered letters, placing them on the wooden box as fast as she can. She left the crumpled letter on where Levi tossed it a while ago.

Now the desk was free with his letters because Historia already placed them inside the box.

Out of nowhere, Levi found his hand gripping on Historia's arm after she closed the box full of his letters. . "What else did you take from that box?" He asked. They were now standing close to each other. Historia froze when he held her hands. He moved closer to her.

He knows that she took the ring, but he wants to know if Historia returned it after he left the garden.

"W-what?" She looked puzzled.

Levi took her right hand and searched from where he saw the ring that she has worn in the garden; He searched for it and found nothing.

"You have the ring do you?"

Historia's eyes widened behind that messy blond hair, Levi can see the grass of hays on her hair and dress, but he's not interested to ask how she had those... It's a little bit distracting about how odd she looks today but Levi can't ignore the fact that she did something awful to him.

She unknowingly offended him.

Her childish face was staring at him again innocently, he felt like he was accusing an innocent person while looking at her wide orbs.

"The ring?" She repeated.

As she stayed silent as if he was recalling something, Levi noticed that something sparked in her eyes. The expression on her face just gave Levi her answer. The way her eyes look so troubled by reminiscing the ring, he can tell that she was horrified about something that would make him more offended.

He gritted his teeth and pulled her forcefully with her arm closer to him, "You." he dragged her so close to her now that her arm brushed on his chest, he doesn't know where he will place his anger because she was making that innocent face again.

"Why would you wear a dress from a dead girl? Why would you insert a ring in your fingers when you know that it was not made for you?" He dug his finger on her skin.

"Cap-captain. . .You're going to break my arm." She begged.

"And how will that answer my question? Do you want me to change the subject, to let you get away?" He heartlessly tightened his hold and stared at her widened blue orbs.

"Captain, you're confusing me already." Levi can feel the fear in her voice as he gripped her arm with anger...

"Do you think that I will buy this? Well, tell them that I won't change my mind. Even if their daughter is gone, I won't allow anyone to wear and use her like he was nothing in this world. Do you understand that Historia?!"

While he was letting out his anger, Historia's terrified gaze suddenly changed into a blaze of bluish orbs of defiance.

"what? What are you saying, Captain? I didn't know anything about the dress, why are you so angry about it?" she replied, pulling her arm back forcefully, she looked challenged this time. But Levi didn't let go even if he loosened his grip. He doesn't want to break her arm.

"It's not just because of that damn dress Historia.." He flatly said it near her face. Her blonde brows twitched as her expression revealed a hint of anger.

"I know that there's a problem with you and the Rals, but I didn't take the letter and wore that dress to offend you." She stepped back to make some space between them with her fierce face. " I can't let you hold me like that again. I don't know what's going on here, but I don't deserve to be treated like this.." She was like an angry kid on her gesture.

Being so small and glaring at her like that.

How can she look so childish when she's offended?

Levi didn't reply to that.

But He was aware that he was angry in a way that she can't understand the reason behind it all, and she will never understand why.

Historia opened a compartment under her desk, and Levi saw the ring. Historia grabbed it and showed it to him...

His heartbeat fast.

"You mean this ring?" Historia presented the ring to him, but there's something written on her face that he cannot get. She looked conflicted.

He felt his stomach stirred by the sight of the golden ring that he once held in his palm and presented it to Petra. But her dead face keeps on flashing back by the time he looks at it. It was like a burning sun that he can't stare at it for too long.

"That ring doesn't belong to you." he looked in the other direction...

"And it doesn't belong to you either. The owner's dea--"

"Dead or not, you don't have the right to take someone else's belonging!" His rage ate his patience and he felt his muscles tensed.

"You gave this to her?" She asked

"It's none of your fucking business."

"Then why are you so mad on behalf of her? I don't understand."

"I said it's none of your concern!" he raised his voice, clenching his fist. Though He remembered Erwin's advice it doesn't sound like they were going in that direction.

Again he breathed heavily trying to make himself calm from being furious.

She was now frowning in front of him, clearly puzzled by his anger.

Seriously, Did she deserve to know? "For your information, It's considered stealing, your Majesty."

"Maybe I was out of my mind, but I plan to return this to its original place anyway. It's out of line. But I didn't expect that it would turn out this way." Historia placed her other hand on the desk while looking at him. Her confused face was staring at him as if there were thousands of questions on her mind. "But because of it, you just made me wonder why are you so concerned about Petra, you're angry because I wore her dress and now you're angry because I took something from her. ."

"Let's just say, I won't tolerate you taking other people's stuff." He sighed with boredom oh his tone.

"Well, frankly speaking, I don't see it that way, let's just say you're angry because I took your letter and ring from Petra."

"Oh come on, even her parents won't be pleased if they found out--"

"I'm not stupid Captain. Just tell me the truth. What's your connection with the Rals that made you leave the garden so soon? You left me that time, I was hoping to discuss things with you. Have you forgotten about that? I'm so glad that you came today, but your anger cme so soon. Why?!"

He looks sideways, he was guilty about that.

"I can't tell you why either." he flatly said.

"I see. Petra is someone special to you, isn't it? I would be glad if you could just explain so that I can understand."

Levi wants to cough and gritted his teeth about t. She was so kind but deep inside, guilt was rising within him.

It's too personal.

"So what? How will that make you a better Queen if you stick your nose on other people's shitty business?"

Historia winced. She went speechless on that part. Guess he hit the right word to insult her and shut her mouth... Again.

Historia breathed heavily as she accepted her insult. Hurt was written on her entire face. She brought her hands on her face and wiped away a few strands of hair in an aggressive way... She doesn't look pleased this time

Levi glared in her direction as well. He can't believe that Historia was being too unreasonable about taking Petra's stuff, and his anger just made the young Queen think that something was going on. but does he owe the Queen an explanation?

it just doesn't feel right. It's too difficult to make her understand his relationship with Petra.

She nodded as soon as she found herself wordless on his comment and placed the gold ring on top of the crumpled paper. She strode away towards a door that connects the study to her quarters. She opened the door and stood at the doorstep to glance at him with those distant eyes.

He can tell that she was also angry but she pretended to be calm but levi can see how her nostrils flared...

" let's just talk next time when your anger doesn't eat you up, take the letter and your engagement ring with you,..."

Levi's blood boiled when he heard her, he stepped in rage towards her door, "I'm not engaged!"

But it was too late. Historia slammed the door against his face.

Fuck.

Why does he even bother explaining it to her? So what if she thought that he's engaged with Petra? Does he have to chase Historia to make her understand that?

Tch. . pain in the ass.

Levi sighed while leaning at the door that connects Historia's room and the study.

Wow, he has a successful meeting with the Queen. Now she's upset. Now he took a glance at the desk where the crumpled letter and the ring were left. It was not supposed to be here, it was meant to be buried under the dirt in place of Petra's body.

He walked out of the room and went downstairs, taking the letter and the ring with him.
