viii. adventure

It happened in a blink of an eye. One swing of his rod and the two bandits that tried to ambush them were toast. They didn't know who they were messing with. It was late, nearly three a.m. and everyone in the slums knows nothing good walks those streets after midnight.

"That'll teach 'em."

Reno kicks the unconscious goon in the side for shits and giggles. He wipes the left over blood against one of the hooligan's' shirts.

"C'mon princess, let's go home."

He swings the weapon over his shoulders with a feral grin. He's damn proud of his work. Even though Reno was with her, Aerith was startled from the attack. Her hands are still shaking. She tucks them in her dress pockets so the Turk doesn't notice.

"Yo, the train is leaving."

"Reno," she huffs, struggling to conceal the crack in her voice. "I'm feeling very emotionally vulnerable right now so just hold my damn hand."

He reaches his fingers to grasp hers without hesitation.

"All good princess."

She takes it and Reno pulls her into his arms. Aerith lets out a sigh and sobs against his bare chest.
