Anna shivered as Kristoff cradled her in his arms, riding as fast as he could towards Arendelle. He took off his hat and put it on her head in a vain attempt to keep her warm. When they finally arrived at the castle gates, he dismounted and helped her stand upright. He knocked on the door, and a servant answered.
"Princess Anna!" Gerda said, gasping at the sight of the princess. "Are you all right? Where is Queen Elsa?"
"Get the Princess to Prince Hans," Kristoff said. "Make sure she's safe."
"Of course," Gerda said. She escorted Anna inside the gates. Anna stared back at Kristoff until the doors closed and she could no longer see him. Kristoff stared back at her sadly.
Once inside the castle, the servants lit a fire in the drawing room fireplace and brought Hans to Anna. He, too, was shocked at her condition.
"Anna," he said. "What happened?"
"Hans," said Anna. "You have to kiss me."
"What?" Hans asked.
"Elsa froze my heart," Anna said. "Only an act of true love can save me."
"A true love's kiss," Hans said. The servants left the room, leaving Anna and Hans alone. Anna lay down on the sofa in front of the fireplace, and Hans bent down to kiss her. Suddenly he stopped, and a cruel smile flashed across his face.
"Oh, Anna," he said. "If only there was someone out there who loved you."
"What?" Anna whispered in horror. "Y-you said you did."
"Well, I never actually said that," Hans said. He put out the fire with a jug of water and began walking around the room. "As thirteenth in line, I didn't stand a chance in my own kingdom. I knew I needed to marry into the throne somewhere. As heir, Elsa was preferable of course, but no one was getting anywhere with her. But you - you were so desperate for love, you were willing to marry me just like that!" He chuckled evilly and snuffed out a candle with his bare fingers. "After we were married, I figured I'd have to stage a little 'accident' for Elsa. But then she doomed herself, and you were dumb enough to go after her! Now all that's left is to kill Elsa, and bring back summer."
Kill Elsa. Maybe that would bring back summer. Elsa clearly had no idea how to control her powers, so maybe killing her was the only way. No. Anna banished the traitorous thought from her head. Elsa may have frozen the kingdom and her heart, but she was still her sister, the only family she had left. She couldn't condone Hans killing her.
But Hans was right that Anna had been a fool to agree to marry him after only one day, just like Elsa and Kristoff had told her. And he was right that she had been dumb to go after Elsa. Look where it had gotten her.
"You're no match for Elsa," Anna said grimly. She didn't know if it was a warning or a threat.
"No," Hans said. "You're no match for Elsa. I, on the other hand, am the hero who is going to save Arendelle from destruction."
"You won't get away with this," Anna said, lying on the floor as Hans was about to leave.
"Oh," said Hans smugly, locking the door behind him. "I already have."
