I do not own any of these characters besides, Andy, his friends, Pablo's father, and Mrs. Stevenston.
"Ok, class, you shall open up your lunch boxes and enjoy your lunch." The teacher Mrs. Stevenston announced from her desk.
The entire class was all relieved as they were actually able to dig into whatever they bought from the school, or whatever they got from home. Especially the A-PLUS crew, who were seated in the front of the class. Umari dug into the sweet samosas his mother made, Simon's father made the best buffalo wings around, Linus just settled in a few sandwiches, Andy settled in some Slushy Dawg his father bought him for lunch. He didn't know what his uncle Ferb was talking about when he said that Slushy Dawg never gets better. In Andy's mind, the food tasted great.
As everyone dug into their favorite cuisines, Pablo sat at his desk with his hand over his stomach, feeling his grumbling. He wished he could eat, but things have been tight for him and his father.
Everybody, besides Pablo's friends and their families, didn't know about his struggles. When he and his father immigrated to America and left his mother, they settled in a nice house, but job struggles caused them to lose it and move to the apartment building nearby just so Pablo could be near his friends.
Pablo's father's boss was never a fan of giving employees raises, so Raul was left with whatever salary he had to provide his son. While his friends had expensive and ginormous presents for Christmas, Pablo would just have the basics such as clothes or some eggnog.
What's worse is that Pablo's father barely had any money to buy school lunch. And even if Pablo would bring food from home to school, it would rot before lunchtime.
it sucked. It REALLY sucked. And to Pablo, it wasn't fair. There were times where he would envy his friends. Andy's father Phineas made a lot of money as a public innovator. Andy's mother Isabella, Linus's mother Milly, and Simon's mother Katie all thoroughly enjoyed their jobs as the co-founders of the new Girls Troop organization. Lastly, Umari's parents own a business selling goods.
While Pablo's father is barely getting by working at a factory...that Linus's father now bought and owned...blech.
"Hey, poor boy! What's wrong, you got nothing to eat?" Otis teased from behind the seat before cackling.
Pablo shut the lunchbox before leaving it before he could march out of the classroom.
Mrs. Stevenston glared at Otis, "That three days of detention for you, Mister. Head to the principal's right now."
Otis scoffed before grabbing his things and heading out the classroom, ignoring the stern glared from all four of Pablo's friends.
Andy then looked at his right and frowned sadly at Pablo's empty lunchbox. Honestly, no one has to go through something like this. Especially someone as soft as Pablo.
"Mrs. Stevenston, may I be excused to head to the vending machine," Andy suggested, raising his hand. "There's something else I want to get for lunch.
Mrs. Stevenston looked up from her book and smiled, giving Andy the approval. Andy got up from his seat and exited the classroom. He hurried down the hallway until he reached the vending machine. He narrowed his eyes. What would Pablo like?
Back in the classroom, the rest of the A-PLUS boys decided to chip in. Umari gladly spared of one his samosas for Pablo, Simon laid three chicken wings in his lunchbox, and Linus added just one sandwich into the box.
The three hurried back into their seats just as Andy came in with a carton of Nesquik Strawberry milk, Fruit gummies, and a bag of Doritos.
He set the milk next to Pablo's box and the chips and gummies inside next to the wings.
He hurried back into his own seat just as he heard footsteps coming closer towards the classroom.
Pablo sniffled and wiped out the last of his tears. He felt so ashamed. Like an absolute outcast. His friends have huge houses, while he lives in...well the apartment is not SMALL, but the building does have underground parking, a gym, and a pool nearby, but Pablo always wished that things would be easier.
He simply walked in total shame into the classroom. He looked confused as his friends gave him eager smiles. He just walked over to his seat and decided to just put his lunchbox away. What was the point of having an empty box out? He saw the milk that was left for him. Great. Milk. That DEFINITELY makes him feel a lot better. Pfft.
But then...he felt something inside. This box felt a lot heavier than it should be. He decided to open it and the array of food that was stuffed inside took his breath away. Simon's wings, one of Linus's sandwiches, one of Umari's samosas, and there were also gummies and chips, which Pablo could guess it came from Andy, along with the milk.
Pablo was at a loss for words. He knew he couldn't give his friends back for this. In fact, they knew he couldn't afford to give them back for what they had done.
"Oh, Pablo, there's one more thing," Andy spoke up. He pulled out a card from his pocket and handed it over to Pablo. "That's a lunch pass I bought. It cost 50 dollars, but it offers you 3 months of free lunch here at school, which is perhaps all we have left before summer starts."
Pablo's hand was shaking as he slowly took the card from Andy. He looked over at it and the emotions were too much for him. Soon enough, he was crying. He just buried his head into his hands and cried. The rest of the class and the teacher let out an 'aw' as all four of Pablo's friends got up from their seats to come over and embrace him.
Pablo made his stroll home with a smile etched on his face. His stomach was full, and the food was great, though Simon's wings were a tad too spicy. No kidding, Pablo was holler in pain as the sauce reached the back of his tongue.
Andy and Umari went along with him and Pablo couldn't express his gratitude enough for what they and the others did.
"I'm still kind of surprised Umari pitched in," Pablo spoke hysterically.
Umari rolled his eyes. "I gave you the samosa that had some mold on it."
Pablo stopped in his tracks. "Ohhh, so that's why I had a bad ache for the rest of the day."
Umari laughed as they reached Pablo's building.
"Later, guys."
"Later." Both Umari and Andy replied.
Pablo went up a few flights before reaching his apartment. He unlocked the door and walked in.
"Hello? Dad?"
"I'm here, Hijo," Raul spoke from the living room. He was on sitting on the couch with his arms crossed. He had an eager smile on his face.
Pablo smiled back. "Wow, you're in a good mood. What's up?"
"Oh, nothing," Raul scoffed, "besides the fact that I got promoted at my job and my income got doubled..."
"YOU GOT PROMOTED!" Pablo shrieked excitedly. Raul nodded and laughed as Pablo ran over and flung himself into his father's arms. "Dad! Oh my goodness, I'm so happy for you!"
"You can go ahead and thank Mr. Madison for that."
Pablo pulled from the hug and Raul knelt to his son's level. His expression turned solemn. "Pablo, Hijo, I'm so sorry you couldn't eat today. There's some food in the fridge if you..."
"It's fine, dad. I ate."
"What?"
Pablo pulled out the card from his pocket. "Andy and the others got me food today, and Andy even got this lunch pass so I wouldn't be hungry anymore."
Raul smiled wide and hugged his son. "Oh, Pablo, that's amazing! Perhaps I should give Phineas a call."
Just then, Pablo's stomach began to grumble again. Not from hunger, but of course the rotten samosa Umari gave him.
He pushed his father away before turning and rushing to the bathroom. Oh god, he was about to EXPLODE.
There, a sweet chapter with Pablo. Don't eat rotten food, and don't accept any food from Umari. HAHA
See you in the next chapter.
