Chapter 8
So Jill was here now .Kris was maybe not too happy abut it but it was fact and there was nothing she could do about it. Much like there was nothing she could have done about getting raped.
Of course that wasn't fair to Jill. Jill was her big sister and she would never hurt her like those thugs had.
But it was still difficult to have her here.
"Kris?" Jill's voice was uncertain.
"Yeah. Sorry. I was off in my head for a minute there."
"That's understandable."
"Yeah."
"Look, Kris, I know I came here uninvited-"
"You came because Charlie called you and you know you're always welcome."
"I know that. That isn't the issue. The issue is that this could be seen as another unwanted invasion on your part."
Kris abruptly got up from the couch. Jill was getting a little too close for comfort to how she saw things at this point in time.
"Kris?"
"I'm all right. I'm just going to go to my room and read for a bit. Is that all right with you?"
"Yes, yes of course. You know you don't need my permission. You're in your own home."
"Right. Well, I'll see you in the morning."
'If you even make it to morning without nightmares', Jill thought. She obviously knew that saying that would be a bad idea and so she didn't. But she did dial a number.
"Hello, Angel."
"Hello, Charlie."
"How are things going with Kris?"
"Not good at all." She then gave him a rundown.
"I wish I could do something for you both, but I'm afraid my connections are less than useless in this case."
"Yeah." Jill sighed.
"I should never have agreed to letting her go in alone."
"Charlie, you didn't force her, did you?'
"Well, no."
"So, it was her decision."
"Yes."
"And there you have it. Any one of us could have been in her place. We all would have wanted to go undercover and we all knew the risks."
"That doesn't make me feel any better, somehow."
"Me either, but it's the truth."
Which it was. Also was the truth was that they had to somehow deal with thing as they were and help Kris.
Whether that could be done or not remained to be seen.
No! Jill wasn't going to give in to despair. They could help Kris somehow, she was sure of it. She just had to figure out how. That was the real big problem. But she was going to do whatever she could for her beloved kid sister.
