The Fight Pt. 1

AN: For this chapter I had to do some research into the Shinto religion to try and be accurate, I was thorough as I could be but in case I missed or got something wrong like what one of the kami represent I apologize in advance.

Kuma laid awake in bed in the early morning of Monday, there were a lot of thoughts on his mind in regards to his first week at U.A. that weren't so much tied to the academics he had learned while there. First there was Midoriya and his connection to All Might, how he had somehow passed on a quirk to the boy who was at one point just as powerless as he was. He could hardly believe it if he hadn't overheard All Might talking about it without his heart so much as skipping a beat. Then there was him keeping his blindness a secret from everyone, something that could easily be spilled by Aizawa if he deemed it 'logical' for him to do.

And finally there was the whole situation with Crusher and the Yakuza, that was what really was keeping him awake. His dad had two choices, he could either keep his mouth shut about Kreel, play innocent and pretend he never knew anything about it which might work out even if Kreel got outed one day. But if that also meant his dad's head could be on the chopping block if they suspected that his dad knew.

Or he could secure his own safety by giving Kreel up, however that would be like signing a death warrant for him. Sitting up in bed, his hearing pinged across the apartment and focused in on his dad snoring soundly asleep in his room. Reaching his hand to his bedside table, he took the watch off it and ran his thumb over it's face, It's Four A.M. School doesn't start for another five hours. he thought as he stood up and walked to his closet, reaching inside his hand brushed against the various fabrics until he found a light but comfortable hoodie that he slipped over his bare torso.

Grabbing a pair of pants and his sneakers, he adjusted his glasses on his face before walking to the window and opening it. He was greeted with the early morning breeze, the sun wasn't up from the lack of warmth he felt but that was perfectly fine for what he was doing.

Closing his window behind him, he stepped up onto the railing of the fire escape and leapt up, grabbing the level above him and swnging himself up onto the next level and beginning to climb his way up towards the roof.

He needed to move, he needed to not be trapped inside his room with his thoughts.

Kuma always thought better like this, with the wind blowing through his hair as he leapt across the rooftops, the outlines of the blocks in front of him highlighted a path for him. Jumping across the road, his foot balcing on a telephone wire that strung between buildings sprung him the rest of the way across for him to grab onto the support of a neon sign hanging off the wall of a building.

Swinging off it, he flipping forward onto the rooftop of another apartment building.

Can't wait for the next exercise at school. he thought excitedly, there was something planned today as he recalled the itinerary for him had planned out. However he didn't know specifically what it entailed he was nevertheless hoping for something like this, something that he could show off in, landing atop a water tower, Kuma took a moment to rest.

Sitting down and letting his feet slide out down the slope in front of him, the water inside the basin he sat on reverberated from his movements. School's not a problem for one…..but Kreel is. he thought sadly. Ultimately it did come down to whatever his father decided to do, but he didn't know what the right thing to do was. Kreel did this to himself, why should I loose sleep over some idiot's stupid idea? he thought with a bitter tone. He lowered his head, Because you care…..doesn't matter what he was thinking he could die if things are screwed up. he thought.

I've wanted to be a hero my entire life but the first time I face something they deal with, legal issues, I can't think of anything? God what a joke. he thought bitterly. It wasn't entirely air, he knew that, he had a week of hero courses under his belt and it wasn't like he was prepared for this. He needed advice, Who the hell do I ask? Iida, Uraraka, and Izuku are my friends but they know as much as I do. Aizawa might be a better shot….no, wait if any heroes get involved they might suspect dad! I'm the one going to a damn hero school! he thought in frustration.

As he ran dry on names however, the sound of a loud bell being run made him loo up, the sound was from a few blocks away towards the part but he knew that sound anywhere. It was the morning kane bell at the local Shinto Temple. When he was a kid his dad would drop him off for there during the summers since no one else could watch him at home.

….no. No that's stupid….that's….. he thought before standing up. …ok then. he decided before leaping from the water tower and taking off across the rooftops towards the temple.

Crossing the road from above a few times, he dropped down into an alley on the street across from the stairway leading up to the temple. Pivoting off the wall to slow his decent, he landed in the alley and walked across the empty street to the staircase that led further into the park and to the temple. Been a while since I've been here. he thought.

A sour memory crossed his mind, one of when he was a boy and how when his dad would drop him off here and kids his age would show off his quirk he would have nothing to show. It's what led to some kids saying his family was cursed by a Kami on his family. And how that would eventually lead to kids teasing him for not playing with him, calling him Daredevil. God I hate children. he thought dryly as he approached the entrance to the temple, the outline of the Shinto gate above him registering in his vision from the wind. Stopping beneath it, he bowed with his left foot extended forward slightly before entering the grounds.

He pulled his cane out from his hoodie pocket and unfolded it, tapping it along the ground as he approached the small structure where he heard the waves of water from. Walking up to the smaller shrine, he leaned his cane against the pillar before reaching out to one of the numerous scoops for water. Left hand, right hand, mouth, then left again. he recalled as he proceeded with the motions. Drying the scoop off, he grabbed his cane and walked towards the main shrine.

Walking up to the shrine, he dug around his pocket and thumbed over some spare change he had before offering it, bowing twice before the shrine and then clapping twice. I…I need some guidance. My father faces a decision that could end in tragedy for another man's life, or it could lead his own life to be risked. I want to help guide him to the right decision but…..I don't even know what that is. he thought before bowing twice again.

….I'm not alone. Kuma realized as he picked up on a heartbeat a few feet behind him. "Is someone there?" he asked.

It was a woman, she was middle aged, and he could hear the outline of her robe she was wearing, she was one of the temple maidens, "Forgive me young man. I simply came to ready the fortune basket." she said, giving him a bow before walking over to a small table on the other side of the gate way of the shrine and setting down a basket of folded up fortunes. "I can read you one if you like." she offered kindly.

Kuma smiled, the woman was nice to offer but he politely shook his head, "Thank your priestess, but not today." he declined as he grabbed his cane.

"Of course. Is there….any way I can help you?" she asked, her voice sounding almost pleading.

….well I did want some advice. Kuma thought, "Well…..Priestess, would you mind if I asked you something? I'm…..I'm facing a difficult choice in my life right now." he asked.

He could hear the woman's heartbeat speed up a little, "Of course young man."

He raised a hand, "Please, call me Kuma." he said as he walked out of the shrine with the priestess walking beside him, matching his slow pace.

"Then call me Mai." she replied welcomingly.

Kuma smiled briefly, "Well Mai…..my father has come to a difficult choice." he said, he could hear her body tense up at the mention of his father. "He's a good man, a good father…..he tries to do right by everyone and he's taught me to be the same way." he explained, the priestess gently touched his arm and guided them to a nearby bench to sit at.

"It sounds that you've been blessed by Amaterasu, the kami of love." she said fondly. Kuma smiled and nodded, his dad did love him, they were the only family they had. "So what is this choice?" she asked.

Kuma pursed his lips together before speaking, "He….he knows a man is cheating to prosper in life. If he says nothing, then he might condemn this man to a cruel fate or possibly himself. If he tells the truth, he'll be spared but the man will no doubt have a cruel fate." he explained. He clasped his hands together and folded them beneath his chin, "I want to do what is right…but what is the right thing to do here?" he asked.

Mai was quiet as she let the information sink in, he could hear her heartrate accelerate in concern, "That….is a difficult question." she admitted. She folded her hands in her lap, "It sounds as though your father holds the fate of a man's well being in his hands." she observed, seeming to understand his actual predicament. Mai's head looked off in thought before speaking. "What do you think so far?" she asked.

Kuma rubbed the back of his head, "Well…..it would be one thing if this man made a mistake. But he cheated on purpose, knowing the consequences of his actions would be….severe." he explained.

Mai nodded, "So you believe that he deserves punishment for his actions?" she reasoned.

"Yes but…..not this severe a punishment." he explained. If the Yakuza just broke his arm or something as a message? Then he wouldn't be anywhere near concerned about it. But the last time someone tried this, the guy was found dead in his bed at home. "What….what you do?" he asked.

Mai thought over her answer before giving it, "Aside from praying to Omoikane, asking for wisdom…..I would ask myself what is the right thing to do. What is right for everyone, not just me and this man." she replied as she turned to the blind teen. "Every action we take affects the world around us, what some may sacrifice can cause others to be happy. What causes us to be satisfied can bring misfortune onto others….and I think the best thing one can do is try and be good, and send good out into the world because of it." she answered.

I…what IS the best for everyone? Kuma thought to himself.

"Forgive me Kuma, I know that it's not a straight answer-"Mai tried to apologize.

"No it's…it's fine…..I think that's the right question to ask." he replied before standing up and taking his cane with him. "Thank you Mai. I think…..I think this helped." he said gratefully before bowing to her, which she did back to him before he walked off down the steps of the Temple. I'm trying to be a hero…..a hero helps everyone. So how do I help everyone here?

Returning home as his dad woke up for the day, he could pick up a few mutters from his father in regards to Kreel. Such words as 'jackass' 'idiot', and 'stupid goddamn kid' were only some of what Kuma heard as he ate his protein bar, unlike most food in wrappers this one wasn't doused with chemicals to high heaven so he could actually enjoy it. "Dad." he said, drawing his father out of his tirade in the living room, "Are you ok?" he asked.

His father's body loosened as he walked over to the counter across from his son in the kitchen, Bato's eyes had bags under them from the little sleep he managed to get. "Yeah…..yeah I'm just…..thinking Akuma…" he replied evasively.

"About Kreel." Kuma said knowingly.

He shook his head, "Don't you worry about Kreel." he replied firmly as he ran a hand down his face, "Just focus on school." he said.

"But dad-"

"Kuma Enough!" Bato barked, making his son flinch at the octave, "Listen this isn't something you need to worry about, just worry about yourself." he ordered, Kuma could tell he was angry from the heartrate his father had.

But Kuma was incredulous at what his father had just told him, "Worry about-Dad I'm going to a hero school! What do you think I'm going to do when I leave there?" he asked skeptically. Bato blew a gust of air out his nostrils, "Dad I'm not stupid, I know what will happen if you turn Kreel in. They'll kill him, just like they did to the last guy who tried to welsh on a deal with them!" he argued back as his father stood up.

"This discussion is over Kuma." he declared.

His son stood up at well, his glasses looking back into his father's eyes, "This isn't a discussion! This isn't the right thing to do. And you know it." he retorted firmly.

BANG!

His father's fist hit the countertop, "What do you want?! Huh?! Yes! Alright? He fucked up and he's gonna get what he has coming! I'm not about to put my neck on the line for some jackass!" he shouted, his son didn't so much as flinch from the sound of his fist hitting the counter. "Christ Akuma have you even-have you even thought of what happens? If I go against them? Maybe they'll break my legs, if I'm lucky! And then what? What about you?"

Kuma's jaw clenched. "Don't you use ME as an excuse!"

"I'm not!"

"Then why? What's the real reason?" He asked his father before pointing his hand up to the ceiling. "I remember when I was eight, you sat down with me on the roof, you told me that we have to follow the rules, the law. I believe in the law dad, you raised me to believe in it. You believed in me to be a hero when no one else would." he said, his father's head bowed low. Bato couldn't answer, confirming what Kuma thought, "You think that because I'm quirkless, it's reason enough for you to sell out someone?! You think I can't take care of myself? I've been fine on my own for years! I worked hard! Even before the accident when I got beaten up by the other guys my age, and I never hit them back. Even with that stupid name they kept calling me, Daredevil….I took it. Because you told me to, so don't even TRY to use me as an excuse." he replied coldly.

"Akuma….stop…." His dad said through his teeth.

"Why? Because I'm right?" Kuma shot back.

"Because I need to be here for you!" His father shouted back, his eyes staring into the red glasses that covered his son's shocked face..

Kuma's teeth grinded against each other, pity from strangers he could take but his own father?! The words formed in his throat before he could even think to hold them back, "Is that what you told yourself when you took dives?" he spitefully shot out. His dad's entire body tensed, "Surprised?! I'm blind, not stupid. I know you could have taken half the guys you fought when I was growing up no problem. But you took dives to support us. And…..get that….but I also know HOW you know Gills and Fixer." he added angrly, his father's head bowing in shame. "I know you worked for them, you busted some things up for them to send a message…..and if your saying that you did that for me?"

He scoffed as he grabbed his bag, "I don't think I even WANT what you've done for me." he said before stomping towards the door, throwing it open as his father took a few steps towards him before slamming it shut in his face.

Kuma's argument with his father remained in the back of his mind all the way to school, he and his dad had their disagreements before but they were nothing compared to this. Did I go too far? he thought as he walked down the street towards the gates of the school. He had known dad did some lowly work for the Yakuza but the extent of his activities to roughing up some people who didn't pay for protection. Maybe that's why he doesn't want to get the police involved…..they could have something on him…...I mean I still don't want Kreel to bite it but…..this whole mess is just complicated. he thought as he walked through the gates of the school, his radar picking up that the school had now replaced the damaged security gate as he walked over it.

"Hey Kuma!" The blind teen stopped at the familiar voice and turned his head back to Izuku who walked up to him, "No reporters today." he said in relief, Kuma managing a smile as he thought of how well Izuku of all people might do if he was cornered by the vultures.

"Yeah, guess Aizawa must have scared them off." he said as the two entered the school, "So you ready for our trip today?" he asked.

Izuku nodded, "Yeah! Although, the note to the class said to wear our costumes while we go out, but mine is still in need of repairs since Kachan blew mine up so bad." he admitted sheepishly. He probably would already have a spare if he had gotten one through the support agencies that associate with U.A for that sort of thing, however his mom made it for him. And getting rid of the base felt….wrong to him.

"Oh damn, well I don't think wearing your uniform is gonna fly. Especially with Aizawa." Kuma said. Their teacher was probably the most practical man in the world, and wearing a school uniform to a training exercise probably wouldn't be 'practical'.

Izuku waved his hand, "Actually I already asked about that and he said I could wear my gym outfit. I did have to bring some stuff from home that I have on my actual costume, faceplate, belt, and gloves." he said as he shifted his backpack Kuma hearing the plastic of the face mask rattle inside.

Kuma turned to him in interest, "Hey, is there anything about using weapons to help us fight? I looked over the documents for our costumes but I didn't see anything about it." he asked as they reached the second floor of the school and walked to their classroom where Idia was outside the door waiting.

"Kuma! Midoriya! Good to see you both punctually early!" the class rep greeted with his usual exuberance.

Izuku bowed his head in greeting, "Thanks Iida," he looked back to Kuma and shook his head, "And no, I don't think so. Iida, do you know if we're allowed to request weapons with our costumes?" he asked.

The younger brother cupped his chin as he thought it over, "I recall there being restrictions on what support items we can request. But since you don't possess a quirk, I think you can reasonably ask for anything that's not too extreme." he estimated.

Kuma titled his head, "Support items? Oh like Aizawa's scarf." he realized.

Iida nodded, "Yes, though both costumes and those items are made by the support course so I can understand the confusion. Do you have something in mind Kuma?" he asked curiously.

"Escrema sticks." he replied with a shrug. However from the way Iida and Izuku didn't seem to react to his answer he felt the need to explain, "They're two feet long sticks made of wood or metal that I use as weapons. I've had some training with them but I broke one of my wooden pair before the school year started." he said, thinking back to when he was training at the gym in the middle of the night and broke one of them by accident. He had the other hidden away in his locker there, he would have brought it with his hero gear if he knew it was allowed but he wanted to find a replacement first.

Izuku's eyes widened in awe, "Woah! I never heard of that!".

Iida hummed, "I see, it allows you to deal damage to people with quirks who might be able to harm you if you physically touch them, such as Kirishima's hardening." he reasoned.

Kuma nodded, "Partially, it also just helps take villains down quicker. I mean if you get hit in the face with a wooden stick, it's gonna hurt." he reasoned, recalling the times Stick had beaten him with his own pair and sent him home with ice packs covering his head. Iida and Izuku both winced from the idea of getting hit in the head with a stick. "I know that the hero Snipe is allowed to use firearms, but I can't imagine they'll let a student just have a weapon." he explained as they entered the classroom.

"Well U.A. is one of the best hero schools for a reason, they trust that their students are capable and responsible, and if not help them become so." Iida explained. Kuma was a little skeptical of that reasoning, what if he was having a bad day and was a little too hard with his punches and gave one of the students a black eye? He'd feel awful about it!

Well not if it was Bakugou….or Mineta, he was saying some things that made him want to smack the smaller student upside the head.

Entering the room, he noticed that the wall on the other side of the room was open with the briefcases containing their costumes. Walking over, he retrieved the one he owned from where he got it last time. "Guess we gotta go change now." he said.

Iida's shape was looking at the board, "It does say to suit up in our hero clothes and meet out in front of the school within the hour." he noted, making Kuma tense up. "It's decided then! As Class 1A representative, I shall stay here and make sure our fellow students are informed!" he declared, making Kuma and Izuku shake their heads fondly at their friend's encouragement.

…..ok yeah note to self. All black clothes in the sunlight? Kinda warm. Kuma thought as he took the gloves off his hands and stuffed them into his pocket before rolling his sleeves up to get more cool air on him. His Radar senses went over the bus that was sopped in front of the school, it smelled like exhaust fumes and the city. It was a little strange compared to the surrounding smell and sounds of nature.

"Allright everyone! Line up according your I.D. numbers and fill the seats in an orderly fashion!" Iida instructed everyone.

Kuma tapped him on the shoulder, "Um, Iida-" he started.

He felt Iida raise his hand up politely, "Sorry Kuma but I must make sure that our seating is optimal for our journey to the rescue training compound." he said politely.

"But Iida…..have you looked inside the bus?" he asked. The Class rep opened his mouth and closed it before taking two steps up onto the bus. Kuma heard him stiffen up before letting his shoulders shrink in defeat upon realizing it was an open layout bus. "Sorry man." he said, patting the class rep on the shoulder as he hung his head low in defeat and took a seat.

Minutes later the whole of Class 1A was loaded up into the bus and on it's way to where the Rescue training would take place.

However Kuma's mind had a hard time focusing on it, his argument with his father just kept playing over and over in his mind. He knew the right thing was to try and save Kreel, even if that put their necks on the line, he listened to Aizawa's heartbeat, calm and steady as it usually was. He's probably the only one here who I could ask and get a realistic answer from. he dryly thought.

"Hey Midoriya," Kuma heard Asui say to the student sitting between him and her, "I usually I speak what's on my mind." she began, making the nervous boy turn to her.

"Oh?! What is it Asui?" he asked.

"Just call me Tsuyu." She said nonchalantly, Midoriya stiffened before awkwardly bowing his head in apology. "But I was sorta thinking that your Quirk is kind of like All Might's." she observed. Both Kuma and Midoriya had similar shocked reactions, Izuku's however was the most visible as his hair seemed to stand up on end from her astute observation.

"Well hold up Tsuyu." Kirishima interrupted, "All Might doesn't get hurt when he uses his quirk." he pointed out, making Izuku let out a large breath he inhaled. "But simple strength enhancing quirks are awesome. You can do a lot of cool stuff with it." he said before lifting his arm up, Kuma heard the outer skin of his arm become jagged and hard from the way sound sharply bounced off it. "I'm good in a fight, but it's real boring." he said sheepishly.

Izuku leaned out from his seat excitedly, "I think it's pretty neat! I mean it's more than enough if you want to go pro." he said encouragingly.

Aoyama set his chin in his hands as he looked across the Isle, "Qui Masseur, but don't forget, heroes have to a popular appeal to them!" he added in before gesturing to his stomach area, "My navel laser is strong, and cool! Perfect for a pro." he boasted proudly before Mina turned to him.

"As long as you don't get a tummy ache right?" she reminded him good naturedly.

Kirishima nodded, "Yeah that's true, if we're taking about strength and popularity, I think that'd be Todoroki and Bakugo." he said, Kuma hearing the blonde turn to them.

"Yeah but Bakugo's so unhinged I can't imagine he'd be popular." Tsuyu said casually, making Kuma snort.

Bakugo grit his teeth as he leaned on the railing in front of his seat, "WHAT'D YOU SAY FROG FACE?!"

The frog girl simply pointed at him, "See?"

Kuma couldn't help but chime in, "I mean when your vocabulary is limited to 'die', 'bastard', 'kill you', and 'nerd'? It's easy to see how he'd come off as psycho." he added, smirking over towards Bakugo. He could smell the rotten egg stench on the explosive user's hands.

"You want to go Shades?! I'll blow you to hell!" The fiery student shot back.

Oh my god this is too easy. Kuma thought in amusement as Izuku seemed to be processing that Kaachan was the one being picked on for a change. "If we're gonna be classmates, can we get a counter going for how many times he swears us out?" he asked jokingly. He heard Bakugo growl in frustration but he sat back down, seeing that he was just adding fuel to the fire.

He heard Uraraka giggle to herself at the scene as the young lady beside her put a hand to her mouth, "Such vulgarity." she muttered in slight surprise.

Mina chuckled, "Well I think Kuma might have everyone beat in the branding department when he hits pro." she said encouragingly, making the blindfolded teen turn to her. "I mean the first quirkless hero? You'll be world famous!" she said excitedly.

The redhead smiled to himself bashfully, "Well…..I never really thought of that." he admitted, "I mean I never really cared about being popular. I just….want to change things." he said with a shrug. Izuku looked at him with a smile, "Izuku, Uraraka and Iida know this but I'm from Hell's Gate. We don't have any heroes around there." he admitted to the rest of the class.

He heard a bevy of reactions from some of the students, most of them were surprise and shock, "Get out! Really?!" Kaminari asked.

Mineta swallowed, "No wonder he's hardcore…" he whispered nervously.

Bakugo seemed to focus on him, from the way Izuku was pushing himself back and seemed to sweat a little, and the way Bakugo's heartrate climbed, he seemed excited by the prospect. "Ok first of all, it's not like it's an apocalyptic wasteland! It's just a ward!" he exclaimed.

Mina seemed to deflate, "Aww man! I thought it was gonna be like one of those old foreign crime movies from way back in the day.." she said in disappointment.

Kuma tilted his head, "Um…..someone tried to mug me on the train home last week but…" he said with a shrug.

Iida, Uraraka, and Izuku's shapes leaned forward, "Wait! Last week?! After we got off?!" Iida asked in shock. "Someone mugged you! While we were on our way home?! Disgraceful!" he barked out in repulsion at the concept.

Kuma lifted a finger, "Um, keyword, tried." he supplied.

The bus was silent for a moment before Aizawa spoke up near the front of the bus, "Goto. What did you do?" he asked, the entire class seemed to hold their breath despite the calmness of their teacher's voice.

"I asked them to leave me alone, they saw I was wearing my school uniform, thought they were safe since I couldn't use 'my quirk', and then they tried to hit me with theirs." he said, putting up air quotes accordingly. "Also I might have beaten them in pool like a week before." he added.

Aizawa sighed, "What did you do?" he asked more tiredly.

"I broke one of their noses. Then they ran away." he said with a shrug. Iida's body seemed to ridged while Izuku was practically shaking in fear beside him. "I mean the law clearly states that it's a crime if you use your quirk in self defense to an excessive extent. But since I don't have a quirk it's only considered self defense. There's no mandate or law that says that acting heroically without a quirk could be counted as vigilantism" he explained to the class.

Aizawa huffed, remembering a certain vigilante who exploited that loophole in the law a few years ago. "He's correct. However-" his hair stood on end as his eyes looked across the class, "-don't think that's an excuse for any of you to do the same. Your heroes in training, you should act like it." he then turned to Kuma. "You acted well in showing restraint. If it happens again, speak to the officers at the station." he said before turning back to the front of the bus.

The entire class breathed a sigh of relief while Kuma shrugged. "Anyway yeah, we got crime, but nothing that can't be fixed with some hard work." he reasoned.

WAS HE NOT AFRAID OF AIZAWA?! the entire class thought.

Tokoyami hummed, "A crusader against injustice." he observed.

Jiro titled her head, "I mean if you set up an agency in Hell's Gate and manage to stop crime there? Forget being quirkless, that might get you into the top ten." she thought aloud.

Kuma 'looked' around questionably, it was somewhat odd hearing his home being thought of like this. "Does it really have that bad a Rep?" he asked. He was aware that his neighborhood had a reputation, when people visited he could overhear them go 'Well this place is nowhere near as bad as I thought!' but he thought it was just some people.

Reiko, the student who could gain strength from eating sugar, rubbed his head, "I mean if you got no heroes around, it sorta makes me think that criminals and villains are allowed to do whatever." he admitted.

"But there's still police!" Kuma said in dismay as he threw his hands up in the air, "It's actually a nice place. It's got character!" he argued defensively. He wasn't upset, in fact he was more amused that his classmates thought Hell's Gate was some sort seedy underbelly of crime and villainy because of a lack of heroes.

Tooru's shape rubbed her head, "I've heard some places outside Japan are pretty bad with crime but Japan's crime rate is really low." she reasoned.

Kuma shrugged, "I mean it was low before quirks. The conviction rate back in the 2010's was like 98%." he explained. He read a few people perk up at that information, "Am I the only one who listens to documentaries?" he asked.

Iida raised his hand dutifully, "I do! They're very informative." he said. Iida's hands chopped forward, "And he is correct! However due to the nature of Quirks Japan had to re-evaluate how to correctly punish those whom use quirks by providing more substantial evidence to their intent." he explained, Kuma nodding as he pointed at the class rep.

Izuku raised his as well, "I watch ones about heroes." he admitted bashfully, making Kuma smirk.

"Of course you do." he replied

"That's enough. Quiet down. We'll be arriving shortly." Aizawa said, somewhat annoyed with the decent in conversation to something as unproductive as it was. The class quieted down and things returned to as they were before the conversation started, only now Kuma was smiling to himself.

"Is that what you told yourself when you took dives?"

Those words were like a dagger to the heart for Bato. His son always looked to him like he was some sort of idol, someone to aspire to be, someone who was flawless, someone who always knew what the right answer was. And truth be told, Bato enjoyed being seen as something like that. But to know that his son was aware of his faults, knew about the compromises he had to make? All that pride and admiration that Bato felt from his son had turned into cold reality.

He was sitting on the fire escape that he found his son on so many years ago, he was scared to death when a cop was the one who brought his son home. He thought it was a beginning to Kuma's life turning out just as bad as his did. But instead his son as being mocked because of being quirkless, it wasn't right that Kuma found out so young that the world wasn't as equal to those without quirks as it was for those who did.

So he had to make sure that Kuma didn't go down the same path he was on, so he came up here that night, sat down, and told his son that he had to respect the laws, he had to be better than he was. And then months later, when his son said that he wanted to be a hero…he couldn't say the truth to him, he couldn't say that it was impossible. He had to lie to his son and tell him that he could be a hero too.

But then the damnedest of things happened. Kuma proved him wrong.

Even with being blind, he got into U.A., he made friends, he got in trouble, he….he was having a normal life.

He wanted his son to be better than him and he was….and now he saw his father for what he was. He ran a hand down his face, Kuma was right about Kreel, he couldn't just sell him out to save his own skin. If he did? How could his son ever look at him again? Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out his phone and scrolled through his contacts before dialing a number and bringing it up to his ear, "Hey Fogswell, it's Bato….yeah look I need you to help me with something. Can we meet?"

The bus pulled to a stop and Kuma stepped outside, his radar picturing a large dome shaped building in front of him. The class made it's way to the entrance of the building and upon entering through the large doors, Kuma was surprised by what his senses picked up. The ground was vibrating slightly from a central point near the edge of the facility, he could smell smoke but it wasn't natural, it was a sort of chemical in the traces he picked up, along with that he could taste saltwater of all things!

Holy, I mean I know it's rescue training but man, they went all out on this. Kuma thought in awe as he heard a heavier set of footprints approach them. Their shape was….misshapen, it was similar to those big parkas that people would wear in winter but there must have been something special about it as it was impossible for Kuma's hearing to pick up anything beneath it. They walked on two legs, had worker boots on, What the hell? I can't even pick up a heartbeat. he thought as the hero stopped in front of the class as Uraraka let out a small gasp.

"Hello Class 1-A! It's nice to finally meet you all!" a jovial but distorted voice said to the class. "I'm the hero known as Thirteen!" they introduced, "This facility was made to simulate disastrous environments, such as earthquakes, floods, landslides, and others so we can safely practice rescue exercises in a controlled environment." the hero explained proudly. "I designed this facility myself, I call it the "UNFORSEEN SIMULATION JOINT"!" they said proudly.

The entire class, Kuma included looked at the hero blankly, Just like Universal Studios Japan…..

Also. Joint? Is that a proper way to refer to a school facility? Kuma thought.

He could hear Uraraka and Izuku bouncing on their heels in excitement, "It's the Space hero Thirteen! They're a rescue specialist hero!" he said in excitement while Uraraka held her hands up to her chest with a large smile.

"They're my favorite hero!" she whispered back.

Kuma rolled his eyes beneath his blindfold in amusement, These two are just made for each other. he thought as Aizawa approached Thirteen and Kuma's hearing listened in on their conversation.

"Thirteen, where's All Might? He said he was going to meet us here." Aizawa asked.

He heard Thirteen shift their fingers into a 3, "He's just about at his limit, he pushed himself this morning on his commute." they explained in a whisper.

Wait so they know?! he thought in disbelief, No, wait that doesn't make sense, Aizawa didn't keep my secret quiet so I don't think he'd do the same for All Might or Izuku. Maybe it's just about him having a time limit? he pondered. His radar focused on Izuku, the student also paying close attention to what they were saying and watching them closely, though given how quietly they were discussing things, he most likely didn't hear them.

Thirteen turned to the class, "Now before we begin, there's a few points I want to go over regarding your quirks." they said. "Or two…..or three….four…five…..six?" they said, a finger going up with each uncertain number. "As some of you may be aware, my Quirk is called Black Hole, it can suck in air and tear anything apart." they explained. Uraraka nodding with enthusiasm while Kuma swallowed.

He liked to think that with enough time to prepare he could somehow beat any quirk, but how could anyone stand up against something like that?! "Yeah! And you use it to save people in all sorts of disasters!" Izuku said positively.

"Indeed, however my power could easily kill someone if I'm not careful. And I imagine that there's some of you here that have similar abilities which are just as if not more dangerous." they explained. Kuma nodded in understanding, even without quirks if he hit someone a certain way it could really damage someone or possibly even kill them. "In our society, the use of quirks is heavily restricted and monitored, and it may seem like a stable system but if we can't forget it only takes one wrong move with a uncontrollable quirk for someone to die."

Thirteen turned to Aizawa, "During Aizawa's training you brushed the surface of your potential. And through All Might's battle training, you got your first taste of combat and how dangerous your quirks can be to others." the pro hero turned back to the class. "This calls will show you how to utilize your quirks to save lives. Your powers are not meant to inflict harm, so I hope you leave here today with the understanding that your meant to help people." Thirteen took a bow before the class who all clapped at their speech, Kuma smiling a little.

However as the class was about to proceed, Kuma felt something off with his radar sense. Near the base of the stair, a couple feet before where his 'vision' ended, there was a strange….absence. A distortion in the air, a shift in the echo made from the clapping, and then Kuma notices that it's growing. "Um….Sensei?" he began, his head turned to the source.

Aziwa's heartrate suddenly skyrocketed, and it confirmed what Kuma thought as he heard shapes begin to walk out of the hole in the air.

"What the heck's that?! More battle robots? Like during the entrance exam?" Kirishima asked as Kuma's hands balled into fists.

"Huddle up and don't move!" Aizwa ordered, "Thirteen, protect the students. Those are villains!" he shouted as Kuma counted over a dozen figures of various shapes and sizes walk out.

"Thirteen and Eraserhead is it? According to the Staff Schedule I received the other day, All Might is supposed to be here." a distorted voice from the void itself said. For a second he thought it was the leader but it was clear to Kuma it wasn't, one of the dozen villains stood out, his shape was jagged, like there was something protruding out of his arms and front of his face, but it wasn't the shape that his radar pictured which got Kuma's attention, it was the stench.

The same stench from the gates of U.A. but more concentrated, he thought it was staleness but now he knew what it was, it was the scent of a dead animal run over and left in the middle of the road, of rotted wood that's falling apart from the inside, it was the smell of death. "Where is he?" his abrasive voice asked, "We brought all these playmates and All Might isn't even here?" he asked. "Well, I wonder if some dead killed will bring him here?"

TO BE CONTINUED!

AN: And that's a fitting place to end it! I did some looking and oddly enough Thirteen is referred to as a male in the Manga, while the show refers to her as female, but then there's also some quotes saying that they don't identify as either? So I sorta split the difference with the pronouns here until I have clearer confirmation.

But yeah, 308 dropped and HOOOOBOY MHA is a whole new animal now it seems. I've also been thinking of doing another MHA crossover when this is done, though it'll be pretty different considering whose in it.

Anyway until next time everyone! Have an awesome week!
