Chapter 8 : Unexpected turn of events
"Keep close to me at all times. It's dangerous down here." Levi told Petra. They had left for the Underground City in the cold winter morning and had just past the boarder that served as division for the underground and Sina.
Both were dressed in many layers of clothing as it was freezing cold here definitely more so than in Rose. Petra walked closed to Levi as they took off in the streets. She kept her eyes locked on the floor as she avoided seeing the many poor people that laid in the streets or those who were ready to pick a fight with you if you so much as looked at them. She turned her attention to the surrounding buildings, which were mostly not well-maintained or looked like they were ready to fall off. Their walk, which to her seemed like an eternity, came to an abrupt stop when they came face to face with what looked like as an old tavern.
Levi opened the door to reveal the very lively atmosphere inside of the bar. Most of them were already drunk even though it wasn't even ten in the morning yet, with drinks in their hands, glasses full and those who weren't were being refilled almost immediately. Petra was sicknened to her stomach at the sight.
A man, maybe in his fifties, gave Petra a once over look before yelling loudly. "Hey pretty bird why don't ya swing by our table?" In an instant Levi was in front of him, his boot colliding with the man's stomach. "What is wrong with you midget? The man angrily asked, crunching his stomach in pain. Another man came rushing by his side, talking to him in a small voice. "He's Levi Ackerman you idiot! He can beat you to a bloody pulp if he wants to." The unknown man's eyes widened in realization and fear.
"S-sorry I didn't know she was yours." He said, trying to steer away from any trouble.
Levi gave him a cold glare but didn't bother giving him a reply, instead walking up to Petra and whispering in her ear. "Stay close."
She could do nothing else but nod as she was caught off guard by the proximity between her and Levi. The whole exchange between him and the old man to her had been a moment of pure fear of what might happen next if things escalated. But luckily the man had backed off. This time she walked more closely to Levi as they neared the bar.
"My, my, who do we have here, Levi Ackerman himself." The man behind the bar said. Clearly to Petra he must have known Levi before. And as such confirming her previous assumptions that Levi was somehow connected to this place. "Oh, you've brought a girlfriend. That's a first one." He continued, smirking in Petra's direction.
To her surprise, Levi merely blinked at the man's assumption. "Do you know where Kenny might be Jack?"
"My memory's a bit foggy actually. You know with my age and all." Levi threw a few banknotes to the man's direction. "Oh well, he is always in the South Section this time of the day."
Levi nodded his head and grabbed ahold of Petra's hand, leading her through the door.
Once they were outside he let go of her hand.
Levi and Petra walked together through the streets of the South Section. Honestly she couldn't keep up in which streets where they passing or where were they headed. But she supposed Levi had a pretty good idea even though the bartender hadn't said anything. An abandoned storage building came in to view.
"Wait outside." Levi ordered her. "Find somewhere you can hide. They shouldn't see you here." She nodded once and hid in a small alley nearby.
Levi threw her one last look before proceeding inside. He gripped the pistol in his belt. You could never trust Kenny anyways.
"Levi! I see you haven't changed. Oh, and haven't gotten taller either. What a pity!" Kenny made himself known from the shadows, two loaded guns in his hands. "To what do I own such a surprise? Or have you maybe returned to join me again?"
"Sorry to disappoint but I only came to ask you a few questions."
"Little rascal, ya think I'll obey to your orders?!"
"That's why I'm here to make a deal."
"What do you even have to offer me? Your monthly wage? HA! That's laughable!"
"I know they did you dirty Kenny. The Sina dealers right? Don't you want your revenge?" Levi spoke calmly as if completely sure that Kenny would agree with his proposition. He had made some research, asked a few still reliable sources in the underground and came to know that the same guys that worked with Ral had set up for Kenny and stole more than half of his ammonitions. No way in hell would Kenny let them go so easily.
"I give up. You've become to good at this. Spit it what do you want to know."
"Peter Ral and Henry Bossard. You did business with them. Have you come in to contact with any other person from their circle?"
"I see you're really behind with this boy. Ral and Bossard are mere puppets. The real deal is the King himself!"
