Chapter 8
Mai was currently lying on her back on a hill and looking out over the horizon. She had just crushed another opponent that underestimated her. Mai narrowed her eyes in frustrated, I don't like this, not long ago the thing I enjoyed the most was to look the devastated look on the opponent's I dueled the pants off, so why doesn't I enjoy crushing these losers anymore?
The second later Mai saw Joey's smiling face in front of her. She sat up frustrated and bit her lower lip and growled, "It's all that fool Joey's fault, how could I lose to such an amateur!?"
She clenched her fists in anger over her defeat, The fact that I lost to that dork is the reason I can't enjoy crushing these weaklings. And the only reason he won was because Yugi was there to give him advices. If he hadn't done that he would never have figured out my card trick and would have just kept making mistakes and I would've crushed him with ease. Mai thought while she gritted her teeth.
Another thing that frustrated her was the thing Joey had said to her after he won the duel, "He said that he was supported by something that can be seen but can't be seen at the same time? What the heck is that supposed to mean? Damn it, I really hate riddles, especially those that don't make any sense at all!" Mai began scratching her head in frustration.
However she then heard footsteps behind her. She turned around and saw Rex Raptor behind her. Unlike the last time Rex didn't seemed attracted and instead glared angrily at her, "Remember me Valentine? Well I want a rematch so that I can get revenge for what happened on the ship."
Mai sighed tired and rubbed her forehead like she had a massive headache, "Oh no, not this loser." She muttered to herself before she glared at Rex, "Look Raptor, why would I want to face a pathetic loser that had no chance against me the first time we dueled? Now get lost." She then waved her head like she was shoeing him away.
Rex gritted his teeth and his rage could be heard in his voice, "Pathetic loser huh? Just for your information I just underestimated you during our last duel. But in case you forgot I was the runner up in the National Championship." He then held up his Duel Glove before he continued, "And as you can see, I have already gathered six star chips."
Mai sighed and held up her own Duel Glove and turned it around and revealed the only empty hole in it. Rex widened his eyes in shock when he saw that, "Nine? How could you possibly have gathered nine star chips already?" He couldn't believe that Mai was only one star chip away from getting in to Pegasus's castle.
Mai stood up and glared at Rex before she answered him in an annoyed tone, "I won them from people like you who expect me to be an easy prey just because I'm a girl."
She then pointed at the empty hole in her glove, "Just so you know, I have only lost one duel since I came here and it was against Joey Wheeler, and I plan on winning my last star chip from him."
Rex narrowed his eyes when he heard that, "Wheeler? You mean that dork who was with Yugi Muto? Come on he can't be that tough to defeat."
Mai narrowed her eyes, "I would like to see you…" However she then got quiet for a second before she got a smirk on her face.
Of course, I can use Rex to get my revenge! Why should I have to waste my time challenging Wheeler again when I can have Rex to do it for me instead and then I can defeat him instead which I know I can since I have already done it once before. Mai thought while her smirk grew bigger.
Mai then looked at Rex, "Alright Rex, I'm going to make you a deal, if you defeat Wheeler for me then I will accept your challenge."
Rex narrowed his eyes, "For real? You will really accept my challenge if I just crush Wheeler?" He asked her to make sure.
Mai nodded her head and continued, "Of course, after all, if you defeat him then you will have defeated the one who beat me, which means you will be worth my time not to mention that you will have a few more star chips. So what do you say?" She already knew what he would decide but still asked him.
Rex looked down for a second before he looked at her with a smirk and confidently said, "Sure why not? I can waste a few minutes on a duel with him if that's what I need to do in order to duel you. Let's go and find that loser." Mai nodded her head and the two of them left.
A half hour later Yugi and the gang was walking around and looking at different arenas around then on the field in front of them.
Tea looked around her and said, "Considering that the first day of the tournament will be over in a few hours, it isn't surprising to see so many duels going on since the participates needs to have gathered ten star chips within 48 hours after the tournament began or else they will be disqualified."
Joey sighed and his shoulders dropped and he then said with a depressed tone, "Yeah, however the last four duelists we ran in to since Yugi crushed Masquerade ran away from us in fear."
Yugi scratched his right cheek and apologized to Joey with a troubled voice, "I'm sorry Joey, it's because I'm with you that no one wants to challenge you. Most of these participants were part of the National Championship but most of them didn't advance far in it and so they get scared when they see me, the person who defeated Kaiba together with you."
Joey sighed and gave him a small smile, "It's not your fault Yug, we just have to continue searching for a duelist who is willing to face me so I can get more star chips."
Tristan looked around, "Yeah, Joey need to win eight more star chips, however we must make sure that we don't choose a too tough opponent for him to defeat considering that he barely managed to defeat Mai a lot of it was because of luck." Joey glared at Tristan but didn't say anything.
However the four of them then heard a familiar mocking laugh behind Joey whose face stiffened while the others got shocked, "No… it can't be…" Joey slowly turned around and saw Mai standing there with a smirk on her face.
"Hello Joey, did you miss me?" Mai enjoyed seeing Joey's expression. Joey narrowed his eyes, "Yeah right, like I would." Joey's voice clearly said how he didn't want to see Mai again.
Mai looked at Joey's glove and saw that he still only had two star chips and her smirk grew bigger, "Looks like you haven't gotten anymore star chips you loser. I thought many duelists would've tried to take you on since dueling you are pretty much someone giving out their star chips for free."
Joey gritted his teeth and glared at Mai, "Oh yeah!? If I remember correctly, I defeated you in our duel."
Mai looked at him for a second before she looked at Yugi and said, "You might have won but not because of your own skills, you won because of pure luck and because Yugi was there to help you during the duel, I mean without him you wouldn't be able to defeat a beginner, don't you agree Yugi?"
Yugi narrowed his eyes and looked at Mai, "That's not true, he won against you since he had something more important to fight for."
Mai's chuckled and then looked at Joey again, "Is that so? In that cause, I guess that you won't have a problem with him facing an opponent that I've fixed for him."
Joey narrowed his eyes in suspicion, "An opponent that you have fixed?" He didn't like how confident Mai were.
Mai chuckled and then took a step to the right and the gang saw Rex Raptor standing there. Rex got a smirk on his face as he looked at Joey, "I'll be dueling you in Mai's place."
Yugi's eyes widened in his shock, "Rex Raptor!?" Mai looked at Yugi with a smirk, "That's right, also Yugi, you won't be allowed to give Wheeler any advice during the duel. That way we will see if he's truly able to win a duel on his own."
Yugi looked at her in disbelief, he then looked at Joey troubled, "I'm not sure you should face him Joey, but in the end, this is your choice."
Joey looked at his friends who looked at him worried. He then closed his eyes and then opened them with a determined expression, "I need to do this, I need to prove that I can hold my own." He then looked at his friends with a smile, "And hey don't worry, even if Yugi can't give me any advice during the duel, as long as you guys support me it will still help me."
Yugi looked at him for a few seconds before a smile appeared on his face, "Alright, go and get him Joey."
Tristan looked at Yugi worried, "Are you sure this is a good idea Yugi? I mean if Joey loses…" However Yugi looked at him and said with a serious expression, "Joey will have to learn how to duel against people without me giving him advices, and the best way is to face tough opponents, which will force you to think more and to pay attention to your cards." Tristan looked at Yugi troubled and then looked at Joey who nodded his head.
Tristan sighed and looked at Joey, "Joey, I know better than trying to stop you, just be careful, you're facing the second best duelist in Japan." Tea nodded head and agreed with Tristan.
Joey smiled and nodded his head, "Thanks guys, and yeah I'll be careful." Joey then turned towards Rex and took out his deck, "Alright Rex, let's duel." A confident smirk appeared Rex's face and he turned around and began walking towards a Duel Arena with Mai following him.
Joey was about them when Yugi called out to him, "Wait a second Joey." Joey turned around confused and saw Yugi take out the Millennium Puzzle's old box out of his backpack and looked through it and took out a card it and held it towards Joey, "This is a powerful warrior monster that I planned on giving you as a triumph card when you had gained some more experience, however considering the opponent's you're facing now, it should be able to help you in a crisis if you need it."
Joey took the card and looked at it and his eyes widened in shock, he then looked at Yugi with a smile, "Thanks Yug, maybe I will be able to use it." Joey looked through his deck and took out a card and gave it to Yugi before he placed the card Yugi had given him in his deck.
Joey then turned around and walked towards Mai and Rex who had stopped and looked at the gang wondering what was taking them so long.
Soon so did they reach a Duel Arena and Yugi immediately notice that the field would benefit both players since it was almost perfectly split between wasteland and meadow.
Joey and Rex got up on the platforms and they got lifted up to the duel table. Rex held up his Duel Glove with a smirk, "So, how many star chips do you want to lose Wheeler?"
Joey took out his two star chips and held up, "I have two star chips, however once this duel is over I will have four." Rex didn't respond to that comment and just took out two chips out of his glove and placed them on the table.
Both of them then shuffled their decks and placed them on the table and drew their first five cards. Rex then looked at Joey, "Alright Wheeler, I'll let you make the first move since you need all the advantage you can get." Joey got really ticked when he heard the mocking tone in Rex's voice.
"My turn, I draw." Joey took and drew his next and looked at it and his eyes widened in shock when he saw that it was Time Wizard. He then looked at his hand and saw that he also had Baby Dragon in his hand.
Alright! I have the two cards I need to Thousand Dragon. If I manage to use Time Wizard right, I can get a monster with 2400 and weaken Raptor's monsters. Joey thought to himself with a smile on his face.
Joey then grabbed Baby Dragon's card and placed it on the table, "Now I summon Dragon Baby in defense mode." Baby Dragon then appeared on the field with his arms crossed, Def: 700.
Joey looked at Rex with a smirk, "And with that I end my turn." Joey looked at Time Wizard in his hand, Now I just have to wait one turn in order to summon Thousand Dragon with Time Wizard, Joey thought to himself.
Rex chuckled as he drew his next card, "I heard about how you beat Mai, and so I can't believe that you left one key part for that strategy completely unprotected. I guess I'll have to punish you for it." Joey looked at him confused and worried when he heard that.
Rex grabbed a card in his hand, "Now I summon Two-Headed King Rex." A two headed T-Rex with wings appeared on the field and it roared with both of its heads, Atk & Def: 1600-2080/1200-1560.
Joey gulped nervously and Rex with a smirk pointed at Baby Dragon, "Now King Rex, crush his Baby Dragon!" Two-Headed King Rex roared and rushed towards Baby Dragon and then lifted his leg and stomped on Baby Dragon, crushing him.
Joey gritted his teeth, "No! Now I can't bring out Thousand Dragon." Rex chuckled and then spoke to Joey in a mocking tone, "Well if you had been any skilled at all then you would've waited with that combo of yours until after I summoned a monster, however you got too excited and summoned one of the two parts of the combo which let me ruin it." Joey growled in anger when he heard that.
Tea looked at Yugi worried, "Yugi, will Joey be okay?" She really hoped that Yugi would be able to calm her down a little.
Yugi looked at Joey worried, "Joey did mess up a little, but Time Wizard can still be used even without Baby Dragon. However he needs to be careful about when he uses it. He still has more cards that can help him turn things around, however he needs to try and be calm and think carefully." Tea and Tristan looked at him troubled before looking at Joey, hoping that he would be able to remain calm.
Rex then looked at his hand and grabbed a card in his hand and placed it face down on the table, "I end my turn by placing one card face down." The slot behind Two-Headed King Rex lit up.
Joey gritted his teeth and placed his fingers on his deck, "It's my turn now." He drew his next card and looked at it, a smile appeared on his face, "I now summon Axe Raider in attack mode." An armored warrior with a huge axe appeared on the field, Atk & Def: 1700-2210/1150-1495.
Joey then pointed at Two-Headed King Rex and declared an attack with a confident tone, "Alright Axe Raider, attack his King Rex." Axe Raider rushed towards Two-Headed King Rex while he grabbed his axe with both hands.
Rex chuckled as he grabbed his face down, "You really are an amateur. Did you really just walk right in to such an obvious trap?" Joey's eyes widened in shock and Rex revealed a trap with the image of a dinosaur that stood over a defeated opponent with meteors falling from the sky.
"I activate the trap card Survival of the Fittest and equip it to my Two-Headed King Rex. Now my King Rex gains 1000 attack points and once per turn, if he destroys a monster in battle, he can attack another monster." Two-Headed King Rex roared, Atk: 2080-3080.
Two-Headed King Rex blocked Axe Raider's axe with his left wing pushed it back before he turned around and slammed his tail in to Axe Raider destroying him, causing, Joey LP: 4000-3130.
Joey gritted his teeth troubled and looked at his hand, he then grabbed three cards in it, "I… I end my turn by placing three cards face down and end my turn." Three of the spell and trap cards slots in front of Joey lit up.
Tristan grabbed his head with a worried expression, "Joey has no monsters on his field, if Rex attacks him directly with King Rex then Joey will have less than 100 life points left, and if he summon another then he's finished." The panic in his voice was clear and Tea also looked at Joey worried.
Yami appeared next to Yugi in spirit form with his arms crossed looking at Joey. Yugi looked at Yami worried, "Do you think Joey will make him out of this situation? I mean we both know that he wasn't really ready to face someone on Rex's level yet."
Yami looked at Yugi with a confident smile on his face, "I'm sure Joey has a way to get out of this situation. Sure Joey still have a lot to learn before he's at Rex's level of skill, however he is not the beginner he used to be, as long as he can somewhat remain calm he should be calm." Yami looked at Joey again and continued, "I'm sure that at least one of those face downs should be able to save him."
Rex placed his fingers on his deck, "It's my turn now." He drew his next card and looked at it and a smirk appeared on his face, "Now I summon Hyper Hammerhead in attack mode." A velocity raptor with a nose shaped as a hammer appeared on the field, Atk & Def: 1500-1950/1200-1560.
Rex then pointed at Joey, "This was a really short duel, it's time to end this, now King Rex…"
However Joey grabbed one of the cards he had flipped face down, "Now I activate Sixth Sense! I get to choose two numbers from 1 to 6 and then you roll a dice. If it lands on one of the numbers I chose, I get to draw that many, if not I send the amount you role to the grave."
Joey took out a dice from his pocket and then threw it down to Tristan who caught it and ran over Rex's side and threw it towards him.
Rex caught the dice and looked at Joey, "So, what numbers do you choose?" He wanted Joey to hurry up so he could finish this already.
Joey took a deep breath to calm down and thought for a second before he answered, "I choose 4 and 5." Rex nodded his head and rolled the dice, and as he did a holographic dice appeared and it rolled and then landed on…5.
Joey got an excited expression on his face, "Alright! I get to draw five cards!" Joey drew five cards from his deck and looked at them.
Rex gritted his teeth and tossed the dice back to Tristan who caught it and walked back towards his friends. Rex however got a smirk on his face, "So you got to draw a few more cards, big deal. This duel is already over, now King Rex, attack his life points directly."
Two-Headed King Rex roared and rushed towards Joey. However flipped another one card face up and it were Fairy Box.
"Not so fast, now I activate the continuous trap card Fairy Box! Now I get to flip a coin and then if I call it right, then your attacking monster's attack points will be reduced to zero until the end of the battle phase."
Joey took out a coin and held it up for Rex, "I pick heads." He then flipped the coin and then caught it and flipped it on his hand, he then removed his hand and a smirk appeared on his face when he saw the result, "It is head!" Two-Headed King Rex lowered both of his head as his power got drained, Atk: 3080-0.
He then slammed his tail in to Joey's platform however no damage was done to Joey. Rex gritted his teeth and then pointed at Joey, "Now Hyper Hammerhead, attack his life points directly". Hyper Hammerhead roared and rushed towards Joey.
Joey took and flipped the coin again, "I choose tails." He then caught the coin and flipped it on the back of his hand. He removed his hand and his smirk grew bigger, "It is tails." Hyper Hammerhead lowered his head lowered his head, Atk: 1950-0.
Hyper Hammerhead then rammed his head in to Joey's platform, however he didn't do any damage to Joey as well.
Rex gritted his teeth in frustration, "Just how damn lucky can you be? I guess my battle phase is over now." Two-Headed King Rex & Hyper Hammerhead, Atk: 0-3080/0-1950.
Rex looked at his hand and grabbed two of the cards, "Now I place two cards face down and end my turn." Two slots lit up behind Two-Headed King Rex and Hyper Hammerhead.
Joey placed his fingers on his deck, "It's my turn now, I draw." He drew his next card before he spoke, "Now since it's my standby phase, I need to pay 500 life points to keep Fairy Box on the field." Joey LP: 3130-2630.
Joey then looked at the card he had drawn before he placed it in his hand and flipped up his remaining face down, "I activate my spell card Warrior Returning Alive, and with it I can add back one warrior from my grave to my hand, and I choose my Axe Raider."
Joey took Axe Raider from his graveyard and looked at his hand carefully, to see what he could do. He then saw something that could help him, something he had done against Mai.
Joey grabbed three cards in his hand and revealed them, "Now by using Polymerization I can fuse together my Dark Blade and my Pitch-Dark Dragon to Fusion summon Dark Blade the Dragon Knight in attack mode." Dark Blade and Pitch-Dark Dragon appeared on the field and got sucked in to the vortex that appeared and out came Dark Blade the Dragon Knight, Atk & Def: 2200-2860/1500-1950.
Joey then grabbed Axe Raider's card again, "Next, I once again summon Axe Raider in attack mode." Axe Raider once again appeared on the field, Atk & Def: 1700-2210/1150-1495.
Rex snorted mockingly before he began making fun of Joey, "You really are a moron aren't you? Even with the Field Power Bonus, none of your monsters can beat my Two-Headed King Rex."
Joey however grabbed another card in his hand, "That might be, however I have a spell card to fix that, I now activate the spell card Forbidden Lance from my hand."
Rex widened his eyes when he heard that and a spell with the image of a woman holding a lance appeared on the field. Joey looked at him with a smirk, "For the longest time I never understood why Yugi said it could be useful to use on your own monsters, but after a lot of practice duels I finally learned that."
Joey then pointed at Two-Headed King Rex, "Now I target your Two-Headed King Rex with Forbidden Lance's effect! Now for this turn, he loses 800 attack points, and he's also unaffected by the effects of other spells and traps." Rex gritted his teeth as Two-Headed King Rex lowered both of his heads, Atk: 3080-1280.
Tea looked at Yugi confused, asking about what Joey had said before, "Yugi, what does he mean that a card like that could be useful on his own monsters? I mean all of its effects are negative ones."
Yugi looked at her with a smile, "It might look like it is only bad at first, but remember, while it makes the affected monster unaffected by its owner's spells and traps, it is also unaffected by the opponent's too."
Tristan who had listened to Yugi's explanation widened his eyes as he understood what Yugi was saying, "So if the opponent tries to destroy a monster you want to keep with a spell or trap during either your own or your opponent's turn you can just protect it by just lowering its attack by 800 for just one turn."
Yugi looked at him and nodded before continuing, "Or other spell or traps that can mess up your plan like Shrink or Megamorph which is an equip spell which either doubles or halves the equipped monster's attack depending if your life points are higher or lower than your opponent's." Tristan and Tea looked at each other, now understanding what Yugi meant that it could be useful even if used on your own monster.
Joey then with a smirk pointed at Hyper Hammerhead, "I think Axe Raider deservers revenge on your King Rex, so Dark Blade the Dragon Knight, attack his Hyper Hammerhead." Yugi got a troubled expression when he heard that.
Dark Blade flew towards Hyper Hammerhead and slashed him with both of his swords causing the dinosaur to roar, however the next moment it swung with its head and slammed its hammer shaped nose in to Dark Blade and he vanished before Hyper Hammerhead got destroyed, Rex LP: 4000-2420.
Joey got a shocked and confused expression. However he looked at Rex when he heard him start laughing. Rex looked at Joey with a smirk and began mocking him, "You really are a third rate loser aren't you? If you had been smart you would've attacked Hyper Hammerhead with Axe Raider. You see Hyper Hammerhead has the ability that if he battles another monster it gets returned to the opponent's hand. And since Dark Blade the Dragon Knight is a Fusion monster, he gets returned to the extra deck instead."
Joey gritted his teeth in frustration as he grabbed Dark Blade the Dragon Knight and returned him to his extra deck. He then pointed at Two-Headed King Rex, "Axe Raider, destroy his King Rex." Axe Raider ran towards Two-Headed King Rex and swung his axe down between his two heads and sliced in half, Rex LP: 2420-1490.
Joey then looked at his hand, What now? What is my next move now when I've lost Dark Blade the Dragon Knight? Joey thought to himself and then noticed Time Wizard.
He grabbed Time Wizard, That's right, I still have Time Wizard, I wish I could still use it together with Baby Dragon, but I can't, I just need to wait and see if a moment to use it will appear, Joey thought to himself and placed Time Wizard face down on the field and a slot lit up behind Axe Raider.
Mai looked at Joey, a smile appeared on her face, The look on Wheeler's face told me that he most likely placed Time Wizard, the card that helped him beat me face down, I guess I should tell Rex about it. Mai looked at Rex, "Be on your guard Rex, Wheeler just placed Time Wizard face down." Joey looked at Mai, shocked over that Mai knew that he had just placed Time Wizard down.
Rex just smirked and answered without sounded worried, "Wheeler might have defeated you because of it, however that's only because Yugi helped him, and now that he's not allowed to give any advices, I doubt Wheeler will be able to use it properly."
Joey gritted his teeth and glared at Rex, "I end my turn now, so make your move Raptor."
Rex placed his fingers on his deck, "It's my turn now." He drew his next card and looked at it, "I play Pot of Greed which lets me draw two cards." Rex then drew two more cards and looked at them.
A smirk appeared on Rex's face as he placed them in his hand before he grabbed a card in his hand, "Now I summon Balloon Lizard in attack mode." A lizard with a blown up body appeared on the field, Atk: 500.
Rex then grabbed another card in his hand, "And next, I activate the spell card Ultra evolution Pill!" A spell card with the image of a lizard devolve back in to a dinosaur appeared on the field.
Rex looked at Joey with a smirk and explained his card while he grabbed a card in his hand, "This card now allows me to sacrifice one reptile monster on my side of the field in order to special summon a dinosaur monster, so appear now Jurrac Tyrannus!" A red and blue tyrannosaurus with green arms and legs and yellow fur on its head, around its neck and across its back appeared on the field with a roar, Atk & Def: 2500-3250/1400-1820.
Joey swallowed nervously when he saw Jurrac Tyrannus, "It has 3250 attack points now?" It was even higher than what Two-Headed King Rex had had before.
Rex then grabbed one of the remaining three cards in his hand, "Now I activate the spell card Mystical Space Typhoon which lets me destroy one spell or trap on the field, so say good bye to your Fairy Box Wheeler!"
Joey got a nervous expression on his face when he saw his Fairy Box get destroyed. Rex then pointed at Axe Raider with a smirk, "Now Jurrac Tyrannus, attack his Axe Raider!" Jurrac Tyrannus opened his mouth and gathered fire in it before he fired a fire ball at Axe Raider which hit him and he got surrounded by fire before he got destroyed, Joey LP: 2630-1590.
Rex then pointed at Jurrac Tyrannus who was surrounded by a red aura, "Now Tyrannus' special ability activates! When he destroys a monster in battle and sends it to the graveyard, he gains 300 attack points." Jurrac Tyrannus, Atk: 3250-3550.
Joey gritted his teeth, right now he didn't have anything that could match 3550 attack points.
Rex then looked at the remaining two cards in his hand and grabbed one of them with a smirk and placed it face down on the table, "Next I place one card face down and end my turn." The slot behind Jurrac Tyrannus lit up.
Joey placed his fingers on his deck with a troubled expression, "It's my turn now, I draw." He drew his next card and looked at it and his eyes widened when he saw that he had just drawn Metalmorph.
Joey could just barely keep his face straight to not warn Rex, however on the inside he was super excited, Alright! I drew Metalmorph! Now if I just have a monster who with the Field Power Bonus will have enough attack that once I use this when he attacks…
However Joey stopped there with a troubled expression. He had just remembered what Yugi told him on the ship there, That's right, Yug told me that Metalmorph's effect only activates when the equipped monster attacks, not when the opponent's monster does, I need to calm down so I don't make hasty mistakes like I was just about to do.
Joey took a deep breath before he placed Metalmorph face down on the field and then grabbed another card in his hand and placed it face down in defense mode, "I… I end my turn by summoning a monster in defense mode." A monster slot lit up in front of him before the slot lit up behind it.
Tristan closed his eyes and gritted his teeth in frustration, "Damn it, is this the end?" Tea didn't say anything, however she was as worried as Tristan was.
Yugi looked at Yami who appeared next to him with a worried expression, "Yami, I know that if Joey play his cards well that he could survive this turn, but do you think he has what he need to survive?"
Yami looked at him with a confident expression on his face, "I have a feeling that Joey will survive this turn, let's believe in him." Yugi looked at him, he then got a smile on his face and then looked at Joey again.
Rex placed his fingers on his deck, "It's my turn, I draw". He drew his next card and looked at it, "Now I activate Graceful Charity which allows me to draw three cards and then discard two."
Rex drew three more cards and looked at them before he grabbed two cards and placed them in to his graveyard. Rex then flipped his face down card face up and revealed it to be a trap card with the image of meteors raining down on dinosaurs.
"I activate Survival Instinct! Now with this trap card I can remove as many dinosaurs in my graveyard from play as I want and for each one I gain 400 life points."
Joey narrowed his eyes, "However, since you only have two dinosaurs in your graveyard, you'll only gain 800 life points."
Rex chuckled and looked at Joey with a smirk before he corrected Joey with a mocking tone, "You really are a fool aren't you? What cards do you think I discarded before?"
Rex grabbed the two cards he had discarded and revealed them and continued, "I sent my Giant Rex and Souleating Oviraptor to the graveyard earlier and now I remove them from play alongside my Two-Headed King Rex and my Hyper Hammerhead."
Rex then took and placed all four of the monsters next to his graveyard, Rex LP: 1490-3090. Joey gritted his teeth in frustration since most of the damage he had managed to do to Rex had been undone in an instant by his trap card.
However Rex then grabbed one of the cards he had removed from play and then revealed it to be Giant Rex, "And now, Giant Rex's special ability activates! You see, when he is removed from play, I can special summon him to the field." The giant spinosaurus then appeared on the field, Atk & Def: 2000-2600/ 1200-1560.
Next Rex pointed at Giant Rex, "And next, Giant Rex's other special ability activates! When Giant Rex's special summoned through its own ability, it gains 200 attack points for every dinosaur monster that's removed from game." Giant Rex let out a mighty roar, Atk: 2600-3200.
Tristan got a worried expression on his face, "Oh man, now he has two monsters on the field with over 3000 attack points! I hope that Joey will be fine, even so, that Giant Rex is too much."
Tea nodded her head, agreeing with Tristan before adding her thoughts, "Yeah, not only can that monster special summon itself but it also gain attack points? Is there any negative parts of that card?"
Yugi narrowed his eyes and decided to explain for them, "Giant Rex may seem like a card that's too strong, but it has one drawback, it can't attack the opponent directly, which means it can only attack monsters."
Tristan looked at Yugi and nodded his head as he understood, "I see, that would make sense, however…" He then looked at Joey with a worried expression on his face, "That won't help Joey right now, unless his face down card can help him, he's going to lose."
Rex's smirk grew bigger as he pointed at Joey's face down monster and ordered his Giant Rex to strike, "Alright Giant Rex, attack his face down monster now." Giant Rex ran towards Joey's and sank his teeth in to the glowing slot.
Rex had a smirk on his face, certain that the duel was over now. However he got shocked when he saw the monster appearing to be Little Trooper, Atk & Def: 900-1170/500-650. Giant Rex then snapped his jaws together, destroying Little Trooper.
Rex gritted his teeth and glared at Joey and said in irritation, "You damned… you face down monster was Little Trooper?"
Joey looked at him with a smirk, "That's right, and that means that I now can summon a level 2 or below warrior monster from my deck in defense mode." Joey grabbed his deck and looked through it and then grabbed a card before he revealed it to be a second Little Trooper, "And so I choose to place a second Little Trooper in defense mode."
Joey placed his second Little Trooper in face down defense mode before he shuffled his deck and placed back on its slot.
Rex narrowed his eyes and said with an irritated tone in his voice his suspicion, "And I guess that you have a third Little Trooper that will be summoned once I attack your second one, and then you might also have a few low level warriors to be summoned with the third Little Trooper's ability." Joey got a smirk on his face over how frustrated Rex was over the fact that he had survived again.
However a smirk then appeared on Rex's face, "However, the destruction of your Little Trooper will only make my monster stronger, now Jurrac Tyrannus attack his second Little Trooper."
Jurrac Tyrannus gathered fire in his mouth before he fired a fire ball at the face down Little Trooper and destroyed him before Jurrac Tyrannus got surrounded by a red aura, Atk: 3550-3850.
Joey grabbed his deck, "And just like you said, I can now special summon my third Little Trooper in defense." Joey grabbed his deck and looked through it and revealed Little Trooper before he shuffled his deck again and then placed Little Trooper in face down defense mode.
Rex looked at the two cards in his hand before he grabbed both of hem and placed them face down, "Now I end my turn by placing two cards face down." The spell and trap slots behind Giant Rex and Jurrac Tyrannus lit up as Rex ended his turn.
Joey looked at his deck and sighed, Alright this is it, I need to draw a card that can help me, I have one that I think should be able to save me, but I need to draw it now, please Heart of the Cards, show me some love, Joey thought to himself as he drew his next card.
Joey looked at the card he had drawn and a smirk appeared on his face, "Alright I got it! Now I summon Blue Flame Swordsman in attack mode." Blue Flames appeared on the field and a warrior dressed in blue armor with a blue sword appeared on the field, Atk & Def: 1800-2340/1600-2080.
Rex chuckled and looked at Blue Flame Swordsman with a mocking expression on his face, "I was a little worried when I saw that smirk on your face, wondering if you had drawn something that could save you, however even with the Field Power Bonus, Blue Flame Swordsman only has 2340 attack points."
Joey grabbed one of the three cards in his hand, "yeah well I'm not done yet, next I activate Salamandra which gives a fire attribute monster another 700 extra attack points!" A serpent of blue flames circled wrapped itself around Blue Flame Swordsman's sword, Atk: 2340-3040.
Rex shook his head and laughed before he mocked Joey even more, "I guess you failed your math class Wheeler, my Giant Rex have 3200 attack points and my Jurrac Tyrannus has 3850 attack points. Blue Flame Swordsman can't beat either of them."
Joey however grabbed his face down card, "Like I told you, I'm not done yet, so now I equip my Blue Flame Swordsman with the trap card Metalmorph!" Rex's eyes widened in shock when he heard that and saw how Blue Flame Swordsman's entire body got covered by blue metal, Atk & Def: 3040-3340/2080-2380.
Yugi got an excited expression on his face, "So that's why he got so excited expression on his face last turn." Tristan and Tea looked at him confused and Yugi decided to explain what he meant.
"You see, by equipping Metalmorph to a monster, the equipped monster not only gains 300 attack and defense points, but it also gains the ability that if it attacks a monster it gains half of the opponent's attack points during that battle."
Tea's eyes widened in understanding, "But then, that means that if Joey attacks Jurrac Tyrannus, then Blue Flame Swordsman will gain 1925 attack points, which means that Blue Flame Swordsman will have 5265 attack points during the battle between them."
A wide grin appeared on Tristan's face when he heard that, "And since he has over 3300 attack points now, Giant Rex won't be able to destroy him during Rex's next turn." Yugi nodded his head with a smile on his face.
Yami then appeared next to Yugi with a troubled smile on his face, "I did suspect that Joey had drawn Metalmorph earlier based on how excited he first got and then how troubled he got a few seconds later, I suspect he was planning on activating Metalmorph when Rex attacked at first before he remembered that Metalmorph's other effect only activates when he attacks."
Yugi looked at him troubled, he had the same suspicion that Yami had, "I think so too Yami, Joey has a tendency to act without thinking, let's just be glad that he remembered that fact before he made a huge mistake by activating Metalmorph during Rex's turn." Yami nodded his head before both of them looked back at Joey.
Joey then pointed at Jurrac Tyrannus with a smirk, "Now Blue Flame Swordsman, attack Jurrac Tyrannus with Salamandra Flame Strike!" Blue flames erupted from Blue Flame Swordsman's sword, Atk 3340-5265.
Blue Flame Swordsman then swung his sword and launched the Salamandra towards Jurrac Tyrannus. Salamandra made contact with Jurrac Tyrannus and he got surrounded by blue flames. Jurrac Tyrannus roared in pain before he got destroyed, Rex LP: 3090-1675. The flames surrounded Blue Flame Swordsman's sword died out as the battle was over, Atk: 5265-3340.
Rex gritted his teeth a little, his Giant Rex couldn't defeat Blue Flame Swordsman now, and if he left Giant Rex in attack mode then he would lose the duel during Joey's next turn, however he did have something that could help him right now.
Joey looked at his hand to see if there was something else he could do before he looked at Rex, "And with that, I now end my…"
However before Joey could finish his sentence Rex grabbed both of his face downs and flipped them face up and both of them were the same trap, "Not so fast, before you end your turn, I activate Reckless Greed! Now for each one I activate I get to draw two cards, which means I now get to draw four cards."
Joey widened his eyes in shock when he heard that and Rex then drew four new cards, "Of course the drawback is that I can't draw any cards during my next two draw phases, and just so you know Wheeler, the side effect doesn't increase for each copy of the card, which means that even though I drew four cards, I only need to skip my next two draw phases."
Joey gritted his teeth, not liking that Rex now had four cards in his hand, "Fine, I end my turn now, make your next move Raptor."
Rex looked at his hand, "It's my turn now." When Rex saw the cards he had drawn, he had to force himself to not smile. He grabbed one of the cards in his hand and placed it face down in defense mode, "First I place one monster face down in defense mode." The monster slot to the left of Giant Rex lit up.
Rex then grabbed Giant Rex's card and changed it to defense mode, "And next I switch Giant Rex to defense mode." Giant Rex lowered his head in a defensive manner.
Rex looked at Joey, "And with that, I end my turn, now make your move Wheeler."
Joey narrowed his eyes and placed his fingers on his deck, "It's my turn now, I draw!" Joey drew his next card and looked at it, a smirk appeared on his face, "Now I sacrifice my face down Little Trooper to summon Total Defense Shogun in defense mode!"
A muscular warrior with long black hair and a large shield in his left hand and a sword in his right with two more swords on his back appeared on the field, Atk & Def: 1550-2015/2500-3250.
Joey looked at Rex with a smirk, "Total Defense Shogun has a special ability which allows him to attack while in defense mode, however I still need to apply his attack points during the battle."
Joey then pointed at Giant Rex, "Now Total Defense Shogun, attack his Giant Rex!" Total Defense Shogun rushed towards Giant Rex and rammed his shield in to him, sending flying before he got destroyed.
Joey then pointed at Rex's face down monster, "And now Blue Flame Swordsman, attack his face down monster with Salamandra Flame Strike!" Blue Flame Swordsman swung his sword and the Salamandra flew out of his sword towards the face down monster.
A small black dragon with red eyes appeared with a tiny roar, Atk & Def: 1200/700. Blue Flame Swordsman, Atk: 3340-3940. The Salamandra opened its mouth wide before it crashed down on to it, surrounding it by a pillar of blue flames, the tiny dragon let out a roar before it got destroyed, Blue Flame Swordsman, Atk: 3940-3340.
Tristan got an excited expression on his face as he shouted, "Alright! Now Rex doesn't have any monsters left. Unless he has another monster in his hand that can withstand Total Defense Shogun's next attack, Joey will win during his next turn!"
Tea was just as excited until she noticed Yugi's worried expression. She looked at confused, "What's wrong Yugi? Joey has the upper hand so why are you looking so worried?"
Tristan also looked at Yugi when he heard that, Yugi answered them while still looking worried, "It's just, that little dragon reminds me of a creature my grandpa told me off that rivals Blue-Eyes, not because of destructive power but because of its potential."
Tristan and Tea looking at each other confused but also worried. They didn't completely understand what Yugi was talking about but they still got worried because of the fact that Yugi seemed so worried.
Rex grabbed his deck with a smirk on his face, "When my Red-Eyes Baby Dragon is destroyed by battle and sent to the graveyard, I can special summon a level7 or below Red-Eyes monster from my deck."
Joey's eyes widened in shock when he heard that, "Wait, did you say Red-Eyes?!" Joey got worried as he watched Rex looking through his deck. Yugi had told him about Red-Eyes who is supposed to be the opposite of Blue-Eyes who instead of depending of overwhelming destructive power, Red-Eyes relies on more support to increase his power and to inflict burn damage.
Rex then grabbed a card from his deck before he shuffled it and placed it down again, "Now I special summon Red-Eyes Black Dragon in attack mode". A large black dragon with red eyes with a roar, Atk: 2400.
Rex then grabbed Red-Eyes Baby Dragon in his graveyard, "And next, since I special summoned a monster using Red-Eyes Baby Dragon's ability, it's equipped from my graveyard to the Red-Eyes I special summoned using its ability, giving it 300 more attack points."
A ghostly image of Red-Eyes Baby Dragon entered Red-Eyes who then roared, Atk: 2400-2700.
Joey gritted his teeth, "I end my turn now." Joey looked at the legendary monster that were standing in front of him, right now it was weaker than both of his monsters but if Rex had drawn any cards that could strengthen Red-Eyes or weaken Blue Flame Swordsman then he would be in trouble.
Rex grabbed a card in his hand with a smirk, "It's my turn and I start by equipping Black Metal Dragon from my hand to my Red-Eyes Black Dragon to give him another 600 attack points." A small black metallic dragon appeared on the field before it flew over to Red-Eyes and landed on his back before it took and changed its shape, covered Red-Eyes' body with a thin layer of metal, Atk: 2700-3300.
Tristan let out a sigh of relief, "Thank god, I was worried for a second, but even with Black Metal Dragon, Red-Eyes is still weaker than Blue Flame Swordsman." However Yugi didn't feel as relieved since Rex wouldn't seem so confident if that was all he had.
Rex then grabbed one of the remaining two cards in his hand his hand and revealed it to be a spell card with an image of a clawed foot crushing a house, "Next I activate Stamping Destruction! Since I have a dragon type monster on my field I can target one spell or trap card on the field and destroy it and then the owner of that card takes 500 points of damage."
Rex then pointed at Blue Flame Swordsman, or rather, the Salamandra surrounding it, "And obviously, I'm targeting your equip spell Salamandra!" Salamandra then let out a roar before it vanished from Blue Flame Swordsman's sword, Atk: 3340-2640. Joey gritted his teeth troubled, LP: 1590-1090.
Rex then with a smirk ordered Red-Eyes to attack, "Now Red-Eyes Black Dragon, destroy Blue Flame Swordsman with Inferno Fire Blast!" Red-Eyes opened his mouth and a fired a large fire ball towards Blue Flame Swordsman and destroyed him, Joey LP: 1090-430.
Joey got a worried expression on his face, "No! Not Blue Flame Swordsman!" He knew that his chances of winning were very low now since he didn't really have a monster that could surpass 3300 attack points.
Rex laughed loudly before looking at Joey, "I'm really surprised that I was forced to summon Red-Eyes against a third rate loser like you, but now since I've done that, this duel is over."
Mai had a smirk on her face, "Finally, looks like Rex wasn't just words. Now if he just defeats Wheeler and then I'll just defeat him to settle the score and win my way in to the castle."
Rex who had heard what Mai had said sent her a glare out of the corner of his eyes, Defeat me to settle the score with Wheeler huh? Just wait Mai Valentine, once I crush this loser I will defeat you and settle my score with you! Rex thought to himself.
Rex then looked at Joey, "I end my turn now, so make your final move Wheeler." Joey gritted his teeth when he heard that, he then placed his trembling fingers on his deck.
"It's not over yet, it's my turn now." He drew his next card and looked at it. He gritted his teeth, "I place a monster face down in defense mode and end my turn." The slot to the left of Total Defense Shogun lit up.
Rex chuckled and placed his fingers on his deck, "It's my turn, I draw." He drew his next card and looked at it, "I summon my Black Brachios in attack mode." Black Brachios appeared on the field with a roar, Atk & Def: 1800-2340/1100-1430.
Rex then pointed at Joey's face down monster, "When Black Brachios is normal summoned, I can target one monster on the field and change it to face up defense, so reveal your face down monster."
Joey gritted his teeth as a black armored werewolf with a sword with a bent tip appeared on the field, Atk & Def: 1600-2080/600-780.
Rex chuckled, "Pitch-Black Werewolf huh? Well it wouldn't have helped you anyway." Rex then pointed at Pitch-Black Werewolf, "Now Black Brachios, destroy his Pitch-Black Werewolf!"
Black Brachios then roared as he ran towards Pitch-Black Werewolf and rammed in to him with his body and destroyed him.
Rex then pointed at Total Defense Shogun, "And now Red-Eyes, destroy his Total Defense Shogun with Inferno Fire Blast!" Red-Eyes then opened his mouth and formed a massive fire ball in it before he fired it at Total Defense Shogun and destroyed him.
Rex looked at Joey with a smirk, "And with that, I end my turn now. I did think that I would end the duel this turn but whatever, I'll just do it next turn, so hurry up and make your final move you loser or do you just want to give up?"
Joey gritted his teeth frustrated, looking at the cards he was holding, nothing he had could defeat Red-Eyes, I this really how it ends for me? Will I lose here and fail to win the prize money for Serenity? I mean I know that Yugi would give it to me without hesitation since I need it, but if possible I want to win it on my own, Joey thought to himself while he were starting to lose hope.
Rex however at the moment noticed a spell and trap card zone that was lit up on Joey's field, That's right, I almost forgot that he still has Time Wizard on the field, he did use it to defeat Mai during their duel, however that were only because of Yugi's help, I doubt that he could use it well on his own, Rex thought to himself with a smirk.
Rex then got an idea and he looked at Joey with a smirk, "Hey Wheeler, how about we make a make a bet?" Joey who had been about to draw his next card looked at Rex confused when he heard that.
Rex then continued with a smirk, "How about we take and bet a few of our own cards alongside with our star chips, and how about we start with the cards we have on the field?"
Joey looked at him confused, "What are you talking about? I don't…" However he got quiet and looked down and saw that he still had Time Wizard on the field which he had forgotten about.
Rex then held up a finger and continued explaining what his idea were, "You see, Red-Eyes was the prize I won in the National Championship for getting to second place. Soon after however a duelist who had a lot of support for Red-Eyes but not the main dragon himself approached me and challenged me for Red-Eyes while betting all of his Red Eyes support cards."
He then pointed at Joey with a smirk, "So I'm willing to bet my Red-Eyes as well as the support I have for him if you bet your Time Wizard as well as some of your powerful warriors."
Joey looked at Rex confused, he could understand why he wanted his Time Wizard but not why he wanted some of his warriors since he used dinosaurs. Rex who saw how confused explained why he wanted some of his warriors, "While I don't use warriors, Red-Eyes has a fusion form that requires warriors for it to be used to its fullest potential which is why I want a few warriors too."
Mai glared at Rex angrily, "What are you doing Rex? This is not what we agreed on! You're only supposed to defeat Wheeler, not trying to improve your own deck!" She was worried if Rex got Time Wizard and a few of Joey's other monsters she would be in trouble.
Rex glared back at Mai, "You got nothing to do with this, so stay out of this."
Joey looked down at Time Wizard, troubled over what to do, he had been taught by both Yugi and his grandfather to treat his card with respect and care and so he hesitated to bet the Time Wizard that Yugi had given him just like that. However if he won the Red-Eyes cards from Rex then it could help him in the tournament.
However, before Joey could make up his mind Yugi called out to him, "Joey, do you want to accept the bet?" Joey looked at Yugi who then continued, "This is your choice to make, so I won't tell you what to do, however I need to ask Rex something."
Rex stopped glaring at Mai and looked at Yugi, "Ask me something?" Yugi nodded his head, "Do you have a Black Skull Dragon which is the fusion of Red-Eyes Black Dragon and Summoned Skull." Rex nodded his head confused and Yugi continued, "If Joey decides to accept the bet them I will add my Summoned Skull to the bet too."
Everyone looked at Yugi shocked, especially his friends since they knew how much he treasured his cards. However Yugi looked at Joey with a look of confidence in his eyes.
Joey realized at that moment that Yugi believed that he could win despite the situation he was in, and were betting his Summoned Skull as a way to tell him that. Joey then widened his eyes in realization as he remembered how Yugi had given him a new powerful monster before the duel, which most likely was his last chance right now.
Joey closed his eyes for a second before opening them and looking at Rex as he made his decision, "Alright, I accept the bet, your Red-Eyes and its support cards against my Time Wizard and a few of my warriors plus Yugi's Summon Skull."
Rex got a smirk on his face while Mai gritted her teeth frustrated. Joey took and placed their fingers on his deck, "It's my turn, I draw!" Joey drew his next card and looked at it.
Joey revealed the card and it was a spell card with the image of a golden cup, "Now I activate the spell card Cup of Ace! Now I get to flip a coin, if it lands on head, I get to draw two cards, but if it lands on tails, you get to draw two cards."
Joey took out a coin and flipped it before catching it and placed it on the back on his left hand, he then removed his hand. A smile then appeared on his face, he revealed it, "It's head, which means that I get to draw two cards."
Rex gritted his teeth over how lucky Joey had been in this duel. Joey took and placed his fingers on his deck while swallowing nervously, Alright this is it, if neither of these two cards is the card I got from Yugi then I'll lose. Come on heart of the cards, show me some love here. Joey thought to himself as he drew his next two cards and looked at them.
A smile appeared on Joey's face when he saw he had drawn the card Yugi had given him. He then got a serious expression on his face as he looked at the effects of the card since he didn't really have time to do it before the duel.
A smile appeared on Joey's face once again as an idea appeared on his head. He then looked through the cards in his graveyard before grabbing Salamandra and revealing it to Rex.
"First of all I remove my Salamandra that's in my graveyard from the game." Rex looked at him confused, not understanding why Joey would do that.
Tristan and Tea looked at Yugi confused, not understanding what Joey were doing. Yugi had a smile on his face, "Looks like he drew it." Yami appeared next to him with a smile on his face as well, "Yes, and with it he will be able to win even without attacking Red-Eyes." However both of them figured that Joey would try and win by defeating Red-Eyes.
Joey grabbed one of the cards he had drawn, "And now immortal warrior of flames, appeared before us. Now come forth Immortal Phoenix Gearfried!" A warrior in red, white and golden armor with a sword and shield with fire coming out of the armor appeared on the field, Atk & Def: 3000-3900/2200-2860.
Rex got a worried expression on his face, "A monster with 3900 attack points? No way!" Rex knew that with how powerful Immortal Phoenix Gearfried was it didn't mattered if he had Red-Eyes on the field right now.
However at that moment Joey grabbed the face down Time Wizard, "But that's not all Rex, I also activate Time Wizard!" Joey flipped Time Wizard face up and he appeared on the field.
Rex got a shocked expression on his face, "What are you doing? Why didn't you activate that before you summoned Immortal Phoenix Gearfried? If you fail with Time Wizard then you'll lose the duel."
Joey once again took out his coin while he looked at Rex, "That might be true, but it's also my only chance of ending the duel right here, right now. Alright Time Roulette go!" The arrow on Time Wizard's wand began to spin and Joey flipped his coin.
Joey caught the coin and placed it on the back of his left hand, "It's heads!" The arrow began to slow down. Joey removed his hand and saw that it was heads just as the arrow stopped on one of the two time machines much to Rex's horror.
"Alright, go Time Warp!" Time Wizard pointed his wand at Red-Eyes and Black Brachios and time around them accelerated. Red-Eyes' scales turned grayish and he went down on all four, Atk: 3300-2500. Brachios went down on all four as well as its body quickly aged, Atk: 2340-1540.
Rex got a worried expression on his face, "No way… if he attacks my Brachios now then I'll lose the duel."
Joey however got a smirk on his face when he heard that, "Actually I have other plans, now Immortal Phoenix Gearfried attack his Red-Eyes Black Dragon with Phoenix Blade Slash!"
Rex widened his eyes in shock when he heard that, however he then saw how Gearfried's sword got covered in flames as it rushed towards Red-Eyes and sent a stream of flames at Black Brachios and surrounded it with flames, "What's going on?"
Joey looked at him with a smirk, "It's just Immortal Phoenix Gearfried's special ability. When he declares an attack I can target one monster on the field during the damage stage and then equip it to him in order to give him 500 extra attack points."
Rex gritted his teeth and the slot that Black Brachios were on got flipped around and then the same zone on Joey's field got flipped around and Black Brachios appeared on his side.
Joey was shocked over the fact that the Duel Arena automatically gave him Black Brachios like that instead of Rex having to hand it over but he quickly recovered and placed him on one of his spell and trap card zones and the flames that surrounded Black Brachios then disintegrated him and got absorbed back in to the blade, Immortal Phoenix Gearfried, Atk: 3900-4400.
Gearfried's sword once again got covered in flames before he took and slashed Red-Eyes with his flaming sword, causing the aged dragon to roar in pain before he got destroyed.
Rex got a look of disbelief and horror on his face, "No way… how could I lose to a loser like you?" Rex LP: 1675-0.
Mai quickly walked away with a slightly frustrated expression but she also for some reason she also looked a little relieved and happy.
The platforms then got lowered and Joey walked over to Rex's platform, "Alright Rex, it's time for you to hand over all of your Red-Eyes cards." Rex lowered his head with a depressed expression.
A little while later Joey walked over to his friends with a smile on his face. He stopped in front of Yugi and thanked him, "Thanks Yug, had you not said that when Rex suggested that bet I might not have accepted since I wouldn't have believed that I could still win."
Yugi smiled at him, "I just indirectly reminded you of Immortal Phoenix Gearfried that I gave you right before the duel. Anyway now we're going to have to work on your deck in order to fit the Red-Eyes cards in to your deck."
Joey nodded his head, looking at the four star chips he now had, I now just need six more, just hang on Serenity, I will win the prize money for you, Joey thought to himself before he walked away with his friends to work on his deck and find more opponents for himself and Yugi.
Yami then appeared next to Yugi and looked at Joey with a smile, "I think we both underestimated Joey's dueling skills a little considering how he quickly understood how to use Immortal Phoenix Gearfried." Yami mentally said with pride in his voice.
Yugi smiled and mentally answered his partner, "You're right, however he still have a few things to learn as he activated Time Wizard after summoning Gearfried instead of doing it before, but no worry, we'll help him become better before we both get in to the castle." Yami nodded his head in agreement as they continued walking to find a peaceful place so they could properly improve Joey's deck.
