Kassandra hadn't budged from her perch, her arms were folded underneath her and her head rested in them like a bird in a nest. Ikaros was planted next to her on the railing of the Adrestia. The magnificent bird cocked its head and began to nudge at its companion, nibbling at her wet brown hair.

"Kassandra, You have been out here all night without any company besides Ikaros, what's troubling you? Barnabas stepped lightly behind his commander. At first, he paid no mind to Kassandra's behavior, but when the rain came and went without sight of her below deck, that he knew something was wrong.

Kassandra ignored Barnabas's question and instead answered with one of her own. "Has the rain stopped for the night, Barnabas?" She reached out and stroked Ikaros without lifting her head.

Barnabas sighed and looked up at the star-lit sky "Yes, there is not a cloud in sight, commander."

Kassandra lifted her head and took in a deep breath of salt air. She tilted her head to the left, and then to the right, low cracks emanating from each movement. She pressed her numb arms firmly on the rail and forced herself to straighten "Do you remember that ship I asked you about when we arrived?" she asked.

"You mean Spirit of the Sea? Don't tell me you've seen it and yet to tell me!" Barnabas' excitement grew and pushed aside the dread of concern.

Kassandra smiled a wicked smile as she turned around to face Barnabas, "oh, I've seen it" she said sarcastically, "and Alera is its commander."

Barnabas took a step back as Kassandra pushed past him. He shook his head in disbelief, "Alera?" he asked rhetorically "We had the Commander of the Spyro on our ship for nearly 3 months and she never said a word!?" He ran his hands over his head and followed Kassandra to the far side of the ship, eager to carry on the conversation. "Why wouldn't she tell us?" he yelled.

Kassandra stood at the steps leading up to the commander's platform. She put her hand on the railing and began ascending slowly "that's not the only thing she hid from us Barnabas, she knows about me and my family," When she reached the top step, Kassandra paused and gripped the wood tighter, it's splinters curling into the underside of her nails. "And she's acquainted with my brother."

The mercenary could feel her blood begin to boil, she couldn't understand why someone she thought was close to would hide such information from her, in every sense she felt betrayed. But Barnabas, who always looked to the brighter side of things, was quick to suggest otherwise. He followed Kassandra's steps and stood by her, overlooking the deck of the ship.

"Perhaps, there is a reason for Alera's secrecy. She is a servant of the God's you know," he noted matter of factly.

"Aren't we all," Kassandra said sarcastically, leaning onto the rail. She didn't think too deeply into Banabases comments as he had a habit of over exaggerating, but if Alera was more than just a servant to the Gods then that would just be another truth she had kept hidden from Kassandra and the thought of that was too much to bear.

Barnabas was about to respond when he heard Kassandra's frustrated sigh. He knew his commander was tired and distraught but it seemed that his excitement and cheerfulness was not enough to soothe her, and he took it upon himself to make a peaceful exit. But before he parted, he patted her on the shoulder and said in a soft voice, "Don't be so hard on those who retain their mysterious ways, Kassandra. They often have a good reason for hiding."

"I'll keep that in mind." Kassandra scoffed.

When she heard Barnabas's footsteps carry themselves down the steps, she rested her elbows on the rail, holding her head in her hands. She looked past the deck of the ship and onward towards the Temple of Artemis and carved out the path to the hidden cave. Her mind drifted away from Alera and rested upon Kyra. She questioned the loyalty of the rebel, not only to Thaletas but to her men.

Kassandra had heard whispers while walking back to her ship. Whispers that implicated that Kyra may be more closely related to Poldarkes than she thought. Regardless of if these were true or not, Kyra wouldn't think twice about killing the pias leader, giving Kassandra more reason to doubt her. The mercenary sighed deeply and lowered her head into her arms.

Barnabas wasn't kidding when he said that the islands were a mysterious place, and with all the mystery and drama, it was becoming harder and harder to find those who Kassandra could actually trust. Could she trust Alera to be there if she needed her? Could she trust Kyra to put aside her pride and do what was right in order to succeed in their mission? With all those questions, it was hard not to question herself and her own judgment, "Should I just kill Poldarkes myself?" She thought.

Kassandra sensed a presence behind her and slowly lifted her head. "Come to give me another lecture Barnabas?"

"I'm hoping it won't end up like one," Alera said with a smile. She walked up next to Kassandra and looked over the railing at the deck of the ship, her hooded cloak flowing in the breeze around her. " But I know you have a lot of questions…"

Kassandra shot up "Questions?!" She snapped, She turned her body to face Alera and tramped intimidatingly close to her " Oh, I have more than just questions, Alera." She wagged her finger at Alera but the woman's eyes never strayed from the horizon.

"Why didn't you tell me you knew my brother? Kassandra continued, her voice growing louder, Why did you wait to tell me about your ship? Why did you lie to me? What else..."

"Kassandra!" Alera yelled, cutting her off. She grabbed the mercenary by her wrists and said in a soothing tone, "Withholding details from the ones we love does not mean that we lied to them. She looked into Kassandra's eyes and slowly stroked the side of her face. "the last thing I wanted to do is lie to you."

" Then why the secrecy?" Kassandra demanded. She turned away abruptly as if to hide the mixed emotions that manifested within her. It was the first time that Alera had spoken of "loved ones" and it took the mercenary off guard. Kassandra could only speculate about whom Alera spoke, and that thought made her cheeks lush with color.

Alera took a deep breath and looked around cautiously. She was eager to tell Kassandra everything she wanted to know, but at the same time, she was wary of who may overhear. There were not many places on the island that the two of them could be alone, and the information Alera wanted to share was for Kassandra's ears only, and she would surely be doomed if anyone were to overhear.

"There is a tomb on the northern side of Delos. Follow me there, and I promise to tell you all you wish to know." Alera's voice was as soft as the sea breeze, she reached her hand from under her thin cloak and placed it on Kassandra's shoulder. But, the mercenary was not pleased and pulled away dramatically.

" Here is a perfectly good place to talk." Kassandra scoffed. She crossed her arms over her chest and turned to face Alera. Her blush tone had faded and her eyes showed a wave of anger that was all too familiar to Alera.

"Kassandra..." Alera began before being strictly cut off.

"Speak!" Kassandra yelled, she raised her hand as if to strike the side of Alera's face.

Alera was stunned by Kassandra's behavior but was not intimidated by her. She kept her hidden eyes soft and her expression neutral. She took a step back and waited for Kassandra to lower her heavy hand.

"If you choose to resort to violence to get the information you need, then you are no better than the Cult." Alera turned her back and began to walk towards the stairwell, leaving Kassandra filled with both rage and guilt.

The mercenary remained silent, processing what she had done. She had no intention of harming Alera, but she couldn't stop her hands from moving. Maybe Alera was right, maybe Kassandra was just as ruthless as the cult, maybe.

"Alera, wait!" Kassandra called over the banister. But the woman in the sheer grey cloak had vanished.

"Malaka!" Kassandra cursed. She ran her hand over her braided hair and looked up at the night sky. She wondered how she could allow herself to be so careless, how she could allow her temper to get the best of her.

Kassandra had trusted Alera and until late she had no reason not to. But was Alera's sudden secrecy enough to combat the countless times that she had aided Kassandra in her fight against the cult? After all, if it weren't for Alera, Kassandra would have never found the cult's secret meeting place nor would she have been able to hunt down Elpenor so easily.

There was no doubt about it, Kassandra had misjudged Alera. Taking her secrecy as a sign of betrayal and deceit. Now, the only thing she could do was listen to what she had to say, whether she would like it or now would be determined at the Tomb of Brizo.
