Annabeth POV
I was simply frozen for a few moments as I stared at Percy's bleeding arm. I didn't mean to stab him; he just moved his arm in the way.
Almost like he did it on purpose, but why would he do that.
Suddenly, several individuals came forward to help Percy. I went forward as well.
"Oh my god, Percy, are you okay?" I asked.
I felt the thickness in my throat as I stared at Percy's arm. He groaned slightly, but I could tell that his body was used to pain. Injuries and bleeding were a part of the job.
"I think that I'm fine, but my arm hurts and I'm bleeding," Percy said.
"All right, how about we get you to the clinic," Agent Frank said. "Recruits please make room, and let us go."
"Agent Zhang, I will come with you," I said firmly.
Frank simply nodded as we made our way to the infirmary. Percy was quiet, and he didn't seem that affected by the stab wound. Or, he could be in shock.
"Are you really okay?" I asked as I held pressure on his arm.
The knife was still sticking into his arm, but it was crucial to not remove it. You shouldn't remove a penetrating object because it could be stopping the bleed. I tightly held the cloth to his arm to stop the excess blood.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I feel like this body is used to pain," Percy said softly.
We were quickly walking towards the east wing of the building. The clinic (where Dr. Solace was waiting already) was situated on the opposite side of the training facility.
In my opinion, this was a design flaw for the otherwise extraordinary Lake Valor headquarters.
Yeah, Percy probably was used to pain.
It was evident that Percy was probably tortured by BlodgeHarm during his captivity. After all, he had injuries all over his body when we found him.
As such, his mandated therapy would start this week.
"You're going to be okay, Percy. This is pretty superficial," I said.
Percy chuckled. "Are you saying that because you stabbed me?"
"Actually, this was your fault. We performed that drill a dozen times, and you moved when you weren't supposed to," I said firmly.
I guess that I was a little angry at him.
Percy sighed as he kept his head forward. His expressions were unreadable.
However, Percy wasn't denying that he moved on purpose, and that caused my suspicious to multiply drastically. Something was going on here.
"It was probably a mistake," Agent Frank said in a hurry. "After all, this is your first time training with close combat weapons after your accident."
Percy nodded at Agent Zhang. I could see the gratitude in his sea-green eyes.
Once we made it to the familiar clinic, Percy was escorted to the trauma room even though it wasn't that serious. Percy would need an arm x-ray just in case.
However, this injury didn't require an x-ray.
It was surprising that Percy suggested it rather than Dr. Solace. Percy was always smarter than he looked.
Of course, everyone agreed with him.
...
"Annabeth, there was an accident in the training facility?" Chiron asked boldly.
I was still sitting in the clinic. Percy was in the other room getting an x-ray for his arm. While they said that I could leave, I didn't want to.
I felt a little bit guilty about Percy's injury even though it was an innocent mistake. At least, that's what I thought.
"Err, yes, Chiron. However, Dr. Solace said that he'd be fine," I said quickly.
"Don't worry, Annabeth, injuries are common during training, especially for new recruits," Chiron reassured.
It felt weird to call Percy a 'new recruit.'
Percy Jackson was anything but a new recruit at Lake Valor.
"Yeah, thanks, Chiron," I said softly.
Thalia, Chiron, and I waited together for Percy to be checked out. Piper was still at training for today while Jason had to go out on a small mission.
The clinic was empty today.
Besides the staff, we were the only ones sitting in the open room. The clinic was usually busy after the agents/soldiers came back from important missions, which wasn't now.
Finally, Dr. Solace and a nurse came outside with Percy.
"Has everything checked out all right?" Thalia asked immediately.
"Actually no. We have some distressful news," Dr. Solace said firmly.
"What's the matter, Will?" Chiron asked.
"The x-ray picked up on a sensor chip in Percy's arm. It looks like an audio chip that transmits signals and information," Dr. Solace said.
I simply stared at him. Honestly, I wasn't that surprised.
It seemed logical for a terrorist organization like BlodgeHarm to tag their hostages, especially valuable personal like Percy.
"Wait, I don't understand," Percy said in alarm.
"No, it's nothing for you to worry about," Dr. Solace reassured. "We're going to remove the chip from your arm using a simple procedure. Then, we'll hand it over to the tech crew."
I turned towards Thalia. She was a member of the intelligence and technology sector of Lake Valor. Analyzing tech and coding were parts of her job.
"Yes, I'll be involved with this," Thalia said firmly.
"Wait, so someone could track and hear me all this time?" Percy asked in shock.
"It's looking that way, Percy," Chiron said.
Percy simply looked around the room before nodding. Before the nurse could guide Percy back to the procedure room, his gaze locked onto mine.
"Well, I guess that you stabbing me was a good thing," he said slyly.
Of course, he'd look at the bright side of this.
However, I was a little bit off-put by the whole thing. Percy purposefully making a mistake during combat training. My suspicions were on high alert for some reason.
Regardless, I smiled at Percy. I was glad that he was back and okay.
"Can you not say it like that?" I exclaimed brightly.
...
The chip was removed from Percy's arm in less than an hour. It was a very simple procedure.
Thalia said that the chip was (in fact) a BlodgeHarm technology. They were using it to monitor the audio around Percy.
It was weird to think that some random criminal could hear everything that was going on around Percy.
However, he was relieved to have the chip out.
Lake Valor was working to secure the entire facility now. It was alarming that a terrorist chip could breach the walls of Lake Valor.
However, no one blamed Percy for it.
Logic dictated that Percy probably didn't even know. Because of his injury, Percy stayed home for a few days. It was the protocol that recruits healed before getting back to training, especially after medical procedures.
I watched Piper smile as she came out of the interrogation simulation room.
All of the recruits were practicing our interrogation and hostage skills. The hostages couldn't release a trigger word while the interrogators tried to extract the information.
"You're so good at this skill," I told Piper.
She simply waved off the compliment.
Piper was very good with communications and interrogation. She had an extraordinary ability to convince people of things, which included extracting information.
Her voice dictated attention, power, and influence.
"All right, recruits, you all are doing great work so far. The next interrogator and hostage pair in Connor Stoll and Annabeth Chase," Agent La Rue said firmly.
Connor and I both stood up and gave each other a nod.
This was gonna be fun, especially if I was the interrogator.
However, our walk to the simulation room was interrupted by Chiron's arrival. He seemed slightly alarmed as he stopped our training drill.
"Director, what's going on?" Agent Frank asked.
"The recruits have another impromptu mission. I just received word of it. Unfortunately, it's not a mission that is good news," the director explained.
"However, I suppose that it is relatively safe," Chiron finished
"What's the mission?" Agent La Rue asked.
Director Chiron had everyone's attention, especially since the recruits desired to go on missions. Any mission was important for us to gain experience in the field.
"A black site has been breached, and the terrorist leader has escaped. This is a very big deal, and it could have drastic effects in the criminal world," Chiron said firmly.
My mind raced with thoughts and experiences.
This was not good news. The black sites were where Lake Valor held the worst of the criminal leaders. If one of them escaped, then, he or she could reunite a terrorist operation that could greatly harm our world and its people.
The tension spread throughout the room as we waited for more information.
"What are we responsible for at the black site?" Katie asked.
"Scope out the area and bring back some answers. We don't know how the black site was breached, but the leader that escaped is deadly," Chirons said.
I gulped as I took in the information.
This was a relatively safe mission. However, I didn't understand how a black site could be breached. Black site locations were top secret.
My mind raced with different possibilities: some of which had very bad implications on the security and integrity of Lake Valor.
"Which black site and who's kept there?" multiple recruits asked.
Chiron looked around the room. His gaze caught on each person, which emphasized how bad this problem was.
"Blacksite X25. Kronos of WiCKeD has escaped captivity."
I try to update at least once every day. Enjoy!
