Chapter 8: The Attack Has Failed.
AN: Ok so this chapter will be a bit of a filler type chapter and is meant to answer who sent the letter to Minato. It isn't going to move the story along too much but it will add context to past chapters and later chapters. This will also be a fairly small chapter for this reason.
(Konohagakure: Root Base).
Danzo walked slowly forward. The constant click click click of his cane echoed off the walls in the enclosed space that was one of many underground bases that dotted the village. Minato and that girl had been on that mission of his for weeks and he was sure one of his two assets would've reported back with news and so far he had heard nothing. He wasn't a man known for fits of anxiety but he was starting to feel a bit on edge all the same.
"Lord Danzo we have word from outpost 107 that the attack has failed". The faceless masked root agent said as he handed him the report.
: Targets approached three days before reaching the port of Dor.
: Attack foiled due to a summons. Dragon.
: Ship lost. Targets escaped. Primary target severely injured. Returning to base.
Danzo read through the report growing increasingly more irate. He was hoping that he could remove the up-and-coming prodigy before anybody started having any foolish ideas of gifting him the Hokage hat. That hat was his and he was damn sure going to ensure he had it before he died.
"We shall wait for the report from our second agent. If no word is received in the next 24 hours you are to initiate the backup plan". Danzo ordered before crossing the now worthless report to the side.
"Yes my lord". The Root agent replied before jumping into the darkness without a sound.
