"Its weird right?" Ava asked aloud leaning tiredly over the stone balcony. The sun was setting giving an eerie glow across the city. Though the smoke and dust from the destructive battle had dissipated, the emotions of the day still weighed heavily on her. This was her city, she prayed nobody she knew was effected by this impact.

"Hmm?" Levi yawned propped against one of the pillars arms lazily crossed against his chest. His eyes staying downcast, seemingly looking unbothered by everything.

"The Titans. Literally inside the wall." She whispered continuing to stare off towards the walls, the Scouts lining the top could be seen throwing a thick tarp concealing the beast to the outside world.

"It isn't what id expect to be inside all that stone. But I have a feeling somebody knows more than what they are letting on." He grumbled pushing off the pillar, Ava noticed him give a silent sneer to a few bypassers.

"My father believed that the government was hiding secrets." Ava frowned thinking back to all the times with her father. He was one of the main reasons she strived to continue her education. Briefly she wanted to follow in his footsteps, teaching the youth was something she could have seen herself doing. But with all the unsolved history, and literature, that became priority to her. "Erwin believes his death wasn't an accident but was murdered for his theories."

"We live in a dark world. I wish I could tell you that our government wasn't corrupt. But I'd only be lying." Levi stepped closer to the blonde. "It will be best if you have any of those same beliefs to keep it quiet." He stated firmly eyeing as multiple MPs continued to pass by them.

"I'm aware." She sighed pushing off the wall turning fully towards him. They have been waiting patiently for her brother to get out of the meeting with all the officials to try and convince them why he went through with his mission, though it didn't go anywhere near how they wanted it to go. "When do you think he'll be done?"

"No idea. All those old bastards will need more than simple convincing."

"If anyone can sway ones beliefs it would be Erwin." Ava stepped closer towards the man who was still eyeing her critically. "Do you think I could maybe-"

She was about to ask if she could sneak away, possibly go visit her home. She could even pick up some much needed belongings that she has went far too long without.

"No." Levi snorted turning away heading down the opened hallway.

"But-"

"CAPTAIN!"

A young Stationary Guard ran up to the pair breathing heavily as he gasped for air.

"Well?" Levi turned his attention to the kid who held a terrifying look in his eyes.

"We just got word - titans," he took in a deep breath standing to his full height which was almost two heads taller then Ava. "They have been spotted inside Wall Rose."

"How?" Ava replied first, stepping in front of Levi. The guard inspected her weirdly as he looked between the pair. Mentally slapping herself she stepped back behind Levi avoiding eye contact. She was suppose to be in disguise, a lowly solider would never speak before their superior, or step in front of them.

"Do we have eyes on the outer walls? Can we spot where they had entered from?" Levi continued not bothered by her.

"I - I don't know sir. I was ordered to inform you of the situation and to report to Commander Erwin in the east board room."

"Tch." Levi turned sharply walking briskly down the hall, Ava following closely behind ignoring the questioning eyes of the soilder.

"Your ankle can't be feeling that good." Ava judged as she tried to keep pace with his fast strides. "Do you think the colossal or armored Titan is behind this?"

It's true that they caught the female, which will no longer hold a threat. But they still had two very powerful ones that still needed to be apprehended immediately.

"I don't know." Levi answered turning down a darkened hall, even with the simple candles lit it was basked in darkness. "But something seems off about this whole thing."

"Do you even know where your going? It's so dark, and it feels like we are going down-"

Ava yelped as she walked right into his side as he abruptly stopped in front of a door.

"Why did you stop. Where are we?" She reached out gripping the side of his black jacket. "Levi." She hissed stepping into him tugging.

"Your going to wait here." He grunted as he forcibly opened the ancient wooden door. The creaking of old hinges echoed down the hall.

"Oh. No way." She peeked to the side seeing nothing but darkness. "Why can't I go see Erwin. You wouldn't let me when they first brought him in. So why can't I now? They've obviously released him." She stepped away from him.

"I have no idea who else will be attending this meeting. And if you haven't seen yourself lately you are no solider, which also has zero experience in proper authoritative etiquette." Levi rolled his eyes reaching out grasping her wrist pulling her fully into him. "I'll be back. Just wait here. I'm sure Erwin will have orders to put you up somewhere."

Silently arguing with herself she decide agreeing with the Captain would be the best course of action. It's not like he'd take no for an answer.

"Okay. But don't forget where you left me. Alone in the basement of a corrupted government." She poked him in his chest pushing impossibly closer to him.

"Its impossible to forget about you." Levi spoke completely serious grabbing her dainty abusive finger.

Nervously she looked down to their locked hands, then back to his face. Even though it was dark she was still able to see him, and had a look on his face that confused her.

Was he going to kiss her? No that would be absurd. He clearly told her that he was not interested.

Not sure what to say she just continued to look at his calloused hand, part of her not wanting to let it go. Every time he touched, or held her it immediately made her feel safe.

"Just. Stay quiet. Preferably hidden." Levi broke the silence releasing her hand but remaining close.

"Mhm." She wanted to say more, ask him what the hell he was doing, this Levi wasn't suppose to exist anymore.

"I'll be back." He whispered stepping away putting much needed distance between them. She noticed he gave her one last look over before turning and leaving her alone in the damp dark hallway.

Ava wanted to shout out for him, her heart lurched, her words dying in her mouth.

Sighing she watched until his frame completely disappeared into the darkness before slowly entering the dark room sealing the door behind her.

It had been an hour.

An hour of darkness.

An hour alone lost in her thoughts.

It's not like she purposely sat in the dark. First thing she did was blindly search the area for a candle. Which was found quickly in a small desk located deeper in the room.

But of course with her luck stretched thin at this point she found nothing to start a flame.

Pulling her legs to her chest she sat scrunched into a corner of the room. She knew Levi would be back, but it was starting to feel too cramped.

Too quiet.

Groaning she dropped her head atop her knees. She was exhausted, from today's events with the Female Titan, to right now sitting in a dark room, her brain was starting to play tricks on her, she has convinced herself she's seeing and hearing things...

She needed sleep..

Though she couldn't get her mind to shut off, Ava wanted to know what was happening in that private meeting? Is the Titans really inside Wall Rose? Have they been able to save as many civilians as possible.

"Ava." The familiar voice and the unnatural creaking of the wooden door opened slowly. The small amount of light from the hallway slightly leaking through.

"Here." Ava blinked her eyes adjusting to the minimal light. Pushing herself up to her feet she looked over towards the door spotting Levi holding a stack of papers.

"What the hell are you doing in the dark? Did your brain finally burn out?" Levi smirked opening the door more allowing light in. Helping Ava as she moved around the room careful not to hit anything.

"No. I couldn't find anything to light the candle. If anything it was your fault. Why couldn't I have just went to the mess, or even the garden." She spat back annoyed with his teasing.

She caught him rolling his eyes in the dim lighting making her want to throttle him. "You could have just took a candle from the hall."

"I - uh.."

He was right.

Sighing she made her way across the room even though she always straightened her posture trying to make her seem taller she still had to look up to the man.

"I can now see what a higher education looks like." He grinned in the darkness putting the folder under is arm.

"Shut up." She growled pushing past him immediately leaving in the same direction they came down earlier.

"This way." Levi walked by her taking a sharp left at the end of the hall. "Erwin wants to speak with you. He will be waiting at the barracks."

It was Avas turn to roll her eyes as the once teasing Levi turned cold again. "So.. Are you going to tell me what happened? Are we leaving to inspect the wall?"

"You won't be leaving." Levi answered making his way back topside the fresh night air chilling Ava. "And before you start to act like a brat and try to argue this, it was my idea. You will only be in the way. We don't have any solid information on the Titan encounters. So it will be best if you stay behind."

"Hmph." She breathed crossing her arms across her chest as she followed the Captain through the quad that led straight to the MP barracks. "You know I'm only four years younger than you. How would you feel if I called you a brat. Your behavior is childish at times."

"Hmm. Feisty I see." Levi snorted leading them through the entrance multiple soldiers ran passed them frantically trying to understand the situation.

"Tch. The moment something real happens on their turf they lose their minds. Idiots."

"Levi." Ava hissed grabbing a hand full of his jacket that laid loosely over his shoulders. "The MPs.. why are they running around like they are being sent to war?" She didn't know much about the branches but Ava knew enough from her brother that the MPs were the ones who lived the comfortable easy life, never having to see a Titan.

"Cowards are finally going to have to show what they are made of." Levi shrugged casually admitting all branches will be sent out. "But you -" He stopped in front of another door opening it quickly. "Will stay right here."

"Fantastic." She growled out releasing his jacket pushing past him not too kindly. "You know I could wait at my home. It's a short walk away. I'll be fine."

"We still don't know who sent that letter to begin with. And I don't trust you to stay put."

Ava quickly turned around raising a questionable brow. "You don't trust me? What in the world did I -"

"It was my shift to escort you home. And even though you had strict orders from your brother to go from work, and home. You decided to go out to that run down pub." He stepped forward closing the distance, eyeing her like she was his pray.

Looking away shyly she mumbled a quick apology memories from that night flashing through her mind. The drinks, the dancing, Levi's punishment after he dragged her home.

Blushing she remembered that was also the first time her and the Captain rolled around naked... In her bed.

"That. Well. Yeah." She coughed clearing her throat, she could feel is eyes burning into the top of her head.

"So when I return and your not in this room, expect to be punished."

Ava could feel the his hot breath on her ear, she knew what he was doing, and she wanted to kick herself for falling for it.

"Stop teasing me." She mumbled pushing him back but leaving her hands pressed firmly into his chest. "You told me that whatever we had didn't mean anything. So why are you being so-" she had no idea what to add as she dragged her hands down his torso letting her finger tips dip slightly inside the front of his pants.

"You make it unbelievably hard to stay away." He sighed placing one of his heavy hands atop her head threading his fingers through it. "Just. Forget what I said. You should know by now I've never been good with feelings."

Ava snorted laying her head on his firm chest. This really couldn't be happening right? She was extremely tired back in that room. Maybe she fell asleep.

"That's for damn sure." She finally grumbled out, stepping forward she was about to wrap both arms around him, determined to get the brooding Captain Levi to cuddle when a sharp several knocks had them pulling apart faster than lighting striking an open field.

"Ava I'm sure Levi has informed you-" Erwin pushed the door open looking up from his folder watching the two critically. "What is wrong?"

The two adults eyed each other, Ava noticed Levi's once pristine shirt was now a bunched up mess, and she didn't need to look into a mirror to know her hair was a mess.

"A rat." Ava spoke up shrugging her shoulders, Erwin was not allowed to know a single thing about her relationship with one of his soliders. So if she had to lie, she would do it.

"Very well." He stepped further into the room taking a seat at the table. "So I'm sure Levi shared that you will remain here for the remainder of this mission. Hange has Minister Nick in custody. We believe he has secret information that will help our cause."

Ava took a seat in front of her brother brushing down her stray hairs. "The Minister? I have met him on multiple occasions through the museum. You know I have been to the Cathedral, I've reviewed their literature. Not once have I came across anything strange."

She thought back, trying to remember exactly all the times she had been to the churches historic library. Pulling off her jacket she looked back up to her brother, "but I can say they were very adamant on where we could be."

"So, they could be hiding it else where in that monstrosity." Levi growled out leaning against the dresser, Ava noticed he had yet to adjust his shirt.

Hiding her smirk, thinking how it must be killing him to look so messy. "Exactly. I can remember one time being escorted through, I noticed one of the books cases opened in the library. It led to a sort of office, but from the quick sight I had of it, you could see journals, and papers of some sort."

"It could have been an office." Erwin stated leaning casually in his chair.

"Could be. But in the library? And with a hidden entrance." She raised a brow at her brother.

"Doesn't matter. There is no way we can get into that building." Levi grumbled out pushing off walking near the siblings.

"Probably. But I know a way in." Ava smirked at the two. This is something she could do, though the church was strict on what they could see, she had accidentally happened across an old map of the building.

"Absolutely Not."

"Hell no."

Both men frowned at her, shooting down her plan before they could even think about it.

"Why not? It's late. Nobody will be walking the halls-"

"We have Niles. Hange will get him to share what we need to know."

"But what if he doesn't. I can find solid proof of whatever they are hiding."

"I said no Ava. You'll remain here." Erwin stood walking towards the door. "We should be back shortly. Keep her head down."

"But-" Ava stood also shoving her chair back in the process.

"I don't want to discuss this more." Erwin sighed turning to face her. "If when we come back and still have yet to get through with the Minister we will discuss it again."

"Be safe." Ava mumbled out sitting annoyingly back in her seat. She knew it was a lost cause with her brother. Her plan would require zero assistance, and casualties. It was only turned down because the plan came from her.

"I'll see you soon." Erwin smiled knowingly at his heated sister. "Levi we will be leaving in an hour."

Ava looked up watching the Captain give a quick nod towards his Commander as Erwin left out the door leaving the two alone once again.

"He doesn't want you to be prosecuted for something that could possibly be a dead end. Though it could be a solid plan." Levi assured her moving closer to her. "And your his little sister. He wouldn't send you out alone."

"If your trying to make me feel better it's not working." She grumbled standing from the chair. "I can do this. On the prints I saw a small passage on the side. It's been well hidden behind a bunch of bushes."

"Ava." Levi sighed closing the distance between them. "Forget about it. If anyone can get an old shit to talk it would be four eyes." He added reaching out to pull on one of her harness straps guiding her closer towards him.

Gasping she raised her arms up bracing for the impact against his chest. She wasn't going to complain about his complete one-eighty shift to being the handsy Levi she use to be so used too. But it was strange how quick things were getting..

"Levi what are we doing?" She relaxed her head as he cradled her face with one hand, and held her waist tightly with the other.

"I don't know." He whispered leaning forward placing his lips softly against her forehead. "But promise me you won't do anything stupid?"

Huffing she pulled back a little glaring up to the man "And what will you do if I ignore your orders, hm?"

"I'll cuff you to that bed till I get back." He vowed releasing her putting space between them. "Now. Be a good girl. And stay put." He smirked turning towards the door.

Gaping at her once lover she followed him across the room. "That's it?" She frowned what was she doing? Did she expect him to swoop her up in his arms and take her to bed.. He had to get across the city.

"For now." Levi shrugged opening the door.

"Come back alive." She nodded crossing her arms across her chest. She meant it. Erwin and Levi are the two most important men to her at the moment. She wouldn't know what to do if she lost them.

"Always." He smiled leaving her once again alone.

It's been three days since the whole military went off to investigate the Titans inside the wall. She has yet to hear from any Scout, or even her brother if they had succeeded with their mission. Ava also has been living off rations that Hange had hurriedly brought her before they left. Which has left her irritable and cranky.

It annoyed her that Erwin was going this far out of his way to keep her locked in the barracks. He didn't even trust her to eat down in the kitchens.

Grumbling tiredly she pulled the sheets up to her chin tucking herself into a ball.

Ava had moments where she was going to leave, either escape to her home, or even attempt to break into the church. But the disgruntled angry face of Levi kept flashing through her mind, proving that he didn't have to be there for her to follow his orders.

With heavy lids she began to close her eyes, listening to rain roll down her window lulling her to sleep. As if a higher power sensed her uncertainty the recognizable sound of her door creaking open slowly, Avas small head slightly peered over the covers seeing the body of a man creep silently into her room.

She observed him silently noticing immediately how his usual straight posture was now hunched over showing signs of fatigue. Though for the past few days he covered his limp well now in his worn state his injury began to show.

"Levi?" She whispered quietly pushing the blankets down rising off the bed. "Is everyone okay?" Sure Ava was curious about the mission details, and what happened with the Titans. But she had a deep feeling that something else was wrong..

"We will talk about it in the morning." Levi's tense voice broke through the night like a knife, Ava began to feel her chest tighten, all the worst possible scenarios flooded through her head. "Just. Let's get some rest." He tore through her subconscious taking a seat on the bed.

"Erwin-" Ava squeezed the sheets in her small fists. She watched as Levi sighed tiredly dragging a slow hand down his face before brushing his fingers through his wet mane.

"I'll explain everything in the morning. But he is alive." Levi promised grasping her hands prying her fingers off the sheets. "Can I stay with you."

Ava snapped her head up shocked, since her unpredicted arrival back into his life it was always her asking to be near him. Nodding slowly she watched as he released her hands standing tall beginning to pull off his Scouts uniform, leaving him only in a tight pair of briefs.

She followed his motions across the room, watching as he folded and placed all his clothes neatly on an open chair. Even though her stomach was in knots thinking about her brother she couldn't stop the heat that flooded her whole body at the sight of the perfect man in front of her.

After Levi finished a brisk clean up of her room he walked around to the free side of the bed pulling the covers down.

Breathing calmly she laid back down facing her back toward him.

It was an awkward several minutes, neither wanted to move or make a sound. Ava began to believe he was going to lay stock still. As she was in the movement of balling herself up she felt him hurriedly turn on his side wrapping his strong arms around her torso pulling her body tightly against him.

"Sleep. Tomorrow will be a long day." He spoke quietly into her hair, she blushed nervously at the feel of him nuzzling into her nape.

Too tense to say anything she released a deep breath backing up, closing all the distance between their bodies. Using her free hands she wrapped her own around his pulling them to her chest cuddling securely into him.
