NEXT MORNING…
Future Wyatt came out of his room as he heard noises coming from the kitchen. There was Wyatt making the first pot of fresh coffee of the day. He walked to him and sat by the kitchen counter staring at his old self.
"Where's Sam?"
"She's still well out. Our little insight really took it out of her" he sighed and crossed his arms as the coffee maker started to pour down and the microwave clock displayed five am sharp. Awkward silence filled the entire piece, except for the lingering sound of the coffee filling the pot slowly and steady. As the last drops fell in, Wyatt took a couple mugs from the pantry and poured. "I don't think I'll be able to do what you did…"
Future Wyatt considered his old self for a moment before he spoke. "I know it feels that way now" he twirled the mug once or twice on the counter. "After Meghan left" he felt free to use her name now they three knew who she was. "Sam wouldn't get out of bed for a week"
"Not sure I'll react any different if it happens again"
"It doesn't have to" he took a deep breath. "The real reason I came back here, was to give us all one more chance, a do over if you will… not sure if I have, but…"
"You had to try" Wyatt said. It was oddly unsettling to hear his own feelings coming from outside himself.
"Here's a piece of advice though" Wyatt stared at his aging face. Somehow after seeing what he had gone through in the future, it suddenly seemed worn, exhausted. "Don't forget she's in this with you all the way. Don't ever try to keep her in the dark, just to protect her…"
"Is that why I woke up in the living room couch in your memory?" Future Wyatt nodded with a melancholic grin.
"She's with you a thousand and one percent. Don't ever question that"
All of a sudden, Sam landed back first on the entrance floor by the kitchen. Both versions of her husband ran to her.
"Honey, what happened?"
"I've got no idea. I woke up, noticed you weren't there, heard voices and BAM. Now my butt hurts!" she said rubbing it. They helped her up and she sat on one of the tall kitchen chairs by the counter next to her husband. Future Wyatt starting to make her some tea. "Can I have a cup of coffee?" she pleaded. Future Wyatt stared at himself, sitting next to his wife, who nodded.
"Just the one, OK?"
"You got it" said Sam kissing him on the lips.
"I think maybe your feelings and your racing hormones might be messing with your aeroportation"
"My what now?" Future Wyatt sighed as he had forgotten they still weren't aware of that little talent.
"Your abilities will grow in time, but you've been under a lot of pressure lately so… not sure how's that gonna work now"
"So, she's gonna be vanishing into thin air from now on?" joked Wyatt to a playful slap on the chest from his wife. Future Wyatt contained his own laugh.
"Maybe at the beginning" he said truthfully. "I wasn't the one to go to with these type of powers" Sam closed her eyes for a moment, took a deep breath letting a smile from the bottom of her heart slip through as she remembered her brother.
"Ed" she whispered longingly. Wyatt grabbed her shoulder and she took his hand in hers. She nodded reassuring them she was OK. Her pain wasn't going to go anywhere, but she would learn how to tame it and right now her grieve was far greater on other matters even closer to her heart.
"He did a wonderful job teaching our kids too" complimented Future Wyatt. "So, yes, for now you need to be careful when you wish to be somewhere else cause you might end up there without really meaning to" Sam gave an exasperated grunt which had both Wyatt chuckling.
"Whaaaaat?" she whined.
"You sounded like mom"
"You two must be spending too much time together" said Future Wyatt sipping on his coffee, which Sam made him spill on himself with a wave of her pinky. Smiling wide about it.
"Don't mess with me" she threatened him playfully.
"There she is again" said Wyatt. Sam placed her fingertip on the edge of his mug and froze his coffee solid.
"Enjoy your coffee, hun" she said drinking her own, making yummy noises. They had to try and lighten the mood somehow after what they had seen, or the weight of it all would undoubtedly crush the life out of them.
Still, next few days Wyatt caught his wife more than once wiping tears off her face. He pretended he didn't notice, just gave her a hug and a kiss before going about his business as if nothing was wrong. She appreciated him giving her these brief moments to grieve, making sure to let him know, as she held him in bed every night, that she was there for him too.
By the end of the week, they managed to go back to a certain level of normality, where baby teething and dirty laundry were their biggest issues. They all knew it couldn't last, not after what happened around the city, but they were decided to be happy in these little in-betweens life threw at them.
"Don't forget our appointment at 5:00 pm" said Sam as Wyatt kissed her cheek handing her a hot cup of tea before walking back out of the study again.
"Doesn't ring a bell… we're going to…?"
"Are you joking? We barely got the appointment cause we kept cancelling, now you tell me…"
"Oh right, you mean that appointment where we get to see our baby boy for the first time" he hunched down to hug her, resting his head on her shoulder, kissing her cheek.
"I hate you" she joked.
"No, you don't" he pressed his cheek against hers and exhaled.
"Don't forget to text Mom. She said she was coming, but I'm not sure I told her it was at five"
"Does she have to come along?" asked Wyatt sitting down on the chair just behind them, rolling Sam on the desk chair towards him.
"Well, what if I whoosh away from the doctor when he puts that freezing gel on me? Or if he decides to set the ultrasound on fire?" she pointed at her belly. They knew now this baby would be able to manipulate fire like Edward did.
"It'll be fine, but I'm OK with whatever makes you feel comfortable." he stared at his wife and held her hands.
"Maybe just this first time" she caressed his.
"OK" he kissed her lips and then her head before rolling the desk chair back in front of the laptop propped opened on the desk. "What were you doing anyway? I thought Michelle had sent the invoices from the restock a couple days ago"
"She did, which reminds me I need to go through them" she rubbed her hands on her face anxiously. So much magic going on in their lives lately, her business had been run almost completely by her manager, who now she knew would have made a great sister in law. "I was trying to get a couple on-budget antiques for the display. The last one was our fountain and you guys brought it home, so I need new ones. I sent an email to Edward's old boss and he sent me the catalog of the ones we might be able to have shipped over without the price going over the top" Wyatt massaged her shoulders gently as he listened to her.
"Well, I gotta go meet Chris, but I'll be back on time"
"Are you looking for her?" Sam raised her head to face him.
"Yeah, he has been meaning to but… doesn't wanna give a reason for mom and dad to ask too many questions"
"Hasn't told them, huh?"
"Well, it's a little complicated for him"
"Why? Cause he's desperately in love with a woman he met in the 1700s who happens to be related to his brother's wife and apparently reincarnated into a demon?" she said a single breath.
"Yeah" said Wyatt. "Basically" smiled Wyatt leaning against the door frame now. Sam chuckled and went over to steal a kiss. She couldn't help herself though and ended up a bit more heated than she had originally meant to.
"That was… good…" Wyatt cleared his throat after his wife's lips parted from his.
"Glad I can still take your breath away" she smiled kissing him again. His hands on either side of her head holding her to him. Her hands on his lower back sliding slowly down.
"Honey, you better not keep this up or we won't make it to our appointment"
"Eight hours from now, that's… cocky" she smiled and spanked him before he turned to leave. Wyatt shivered for a second, trying to shake off his enthusiasm before meeting his brother. There was loud giggling coming from the baby monitor on Sam's desk.
"I'll check on them before I go" they blew each other a kiss before Wyatt climbed down the stairs. He could see stuffed animals or rubber toys bouncing off across the room. "Come now, no throwing toys around, remember?"
"Boo-boo" said Julian hitting his head with his hand.
"That's right. We can hurt ourselves or your baby sister" he knelt down as he talked to them. "Come on, big hug. Gonna go see Uncle Chris, be right back" as he had them in his arms he saw yet another teddy bounce across the room. He turned to Angela in disbelieve. Her tiny hand opening and closing throwing bursts of air which lifted random toys from where they rested, making the twins laugh and clap once again.
Wyatt crawled to her carrier basket and picked her up. "I guess we know you got some of Mommy's gifts, huh?" Sam was hurrying down the stairs, having heard Wyatt on the monitor.
"What? What is it?" she said reaching them halfway down the living room.
"Take it easy honey, slow down" said Wyatt reaching for her belly. "She did some air control just now"
"She did?" she took her daughter in her arms and kissed her repeatedly. "Oh, Mommy's so proud. Yes, she is" Meghan started pouting at her baby sister getting all the attention so she did what she thought would get her more appraisal from her parents.
"Mama, look" she raised her hand and in a single gush of wind blew most of the furniture in the room up against the wall. Then smiled at Sam completely proud of herself.
"We're proud of you too, sweetheart" frowned Wyatt at her handy work, picking her up as well, leaving little Julian feeling a little left out, so he blew the pile of papers on the kitchen counter, clapping for himself now. "Were those…?"
"The invoices I needed to check" said Sam in defeat. "Come here, you" she called Julian and bent down to hug him, kissing the top of his blond head. "Ouch" she flinched in pain, putting Wyatt on full alert.
