Friday night Owen took Teddy out, grateful that Megan was there and more than happy to babysit for the evening. Megan loved her niece and nephew and spending time with them. She was missing her own son and happy to go home on Sunday and see him but Owen and Teddy had needed her this week. Both were tentative about the new relationship and being together.

"Go take your girlfriend for a date," Megan said.

"Are you okay to babysit both kids," Owen asked.

"Go," Megan said, "dinner, wine, a moonlit stroll."

Owen knocked on Teddy's door, he had seen her a couple hours earlier at work, in her scrubs then her uniform he was not prepared for the vision that answered the door.

"You look amazing," Owen said, taking in Teddy's purple dress with her hair curled and her makeup that made her bright green eyes pop.

"You clean up pretty good yourself," Teddy smiled.

"Should we go," Owen said.

"Let me say good night to the kids," Teddy said.

"We both should," Owen said.

Teddy and Owen both kissed the kids goodnight and told them they loved them before Meghan shoed them out the door.

Walking down the street Owen took Teddy's hand, it was such a simple gesture but it gave her butterflies. Owen was holding her hand. Owen noticed her tense.

"You okay," Owen asked.

"I'm good," Teddy said, "I like this."

"So do I," Owen agreed.

They continued walking until they reached the restaurant where Owen had made reservations, it was cozy and candle lit. They were shown to their table and took a seat making small talk about their days and surgery stories.

"It's our first date," Owen said.

"Our first date," Teddy said, "really?"

"Just us, no kids, no sister," Owen said.

"We've gone for dinner a few times over the years," Teddy said.

"Not like this," Owen said, "not a real date."

"Owen we have two kids," Teddy said.

"We did things a bit out of order," Owen agreed.

"Does this mean a kiss goodnight and walking me to my door," Teddy asked.

"It does," Owen promised, "maybe make out on the front porch."

"Then get caught by your sister," Teddy giggled.

"Probably," Owen said, "Megan would be merciless."

"She has been all week," Teddy said, "why did she just fly here? What's going on with her and Riggs?"

"She says their fine," Owen said, "but they were always fiery."

"They were," Teddy agreed, "all over eachother so we had to schedule them in separate areas or screaming rarely inbetween."

"She wants to stay in LA," Owen said.

"Shes going to talk to Riggs," Teddy said.

"They have to talk to each other," Owen said.

"So do we," Teddy said.

"We are," Owen said, "two weeks."

"It is," Teddy beamed taking his hand.

"We should have done this years ago," Owen said.

"Time wasn't right," Teddy said.

"We might have saved ourselves a lot of heart ache," Owen said.

"Let's focus on now," Teddy said.

They kept chatting and flirting over their meal. A few people recognized Teddy from work but have them their space. They weren't used to seeing their boss look relaxed and happy. To onlookers it was clear they were on a date. They finished their meal and Teddy lead the way to one of her favorite bakeries for dessert and hot cocoa. They walked arm in arm through the snowy streets of the little city as the snow fell catching on their eyelashes and in her hair. Owen walked her to the door of her apartment at the end of the night.

"I guess this is the end of our date," Teddy sighed.

"My sister and our kids are in there," Owen said looking disappointed.

"You did promise me a good night kiss," Teddy said.

"That is a promise I plan to keep," Owen said pulling her in close and kissing her gently at first but soon her hands were in his hair pulling him closer and her lips parted letting his tongue explore her mouth. They kissed like they had never kissed anyone before. 20 years of desire and love for the other in one kiss there was no holding back this time. Teddy broke of the kiss gasping for breath her cheeks flushed.

"If we don't stop now," Teddy whispered.

"I know," Owen said, "I want to."

"I want you," Teddy whispered, "soon I see the OB on Tuesday."

"Then what," Owen asked.

"It's a full cycle before it's effective," Teddy said, "patience."

"I don't want to be patient," Owen admitted.

"It's good for us," Teddy said, "think how good it will be when we finally can."

"I know," Owen said resting his forehead against hers. He was completely in love with his best friend, but last time he came off too strong he rushed her and scared her. This time it would be different. He would take his time. He would do it right.

Teddy leaned into him, "I love you."

"I love you too," Owen replied.

Teddy stood on tiptoe and kissed him, soft and gentle. Owen returned her kiss matching the softness and love.

"We should go in," Teddy sighed.

"We should," Owen agreed, "I need to get Leo to bed."

"Meg was going to put him down in mine," Teddy said.

They walked in and Megan's head snapped up from her phone, she had been texting someone but her eyes were red she had been crying.

"Kids are asleep," Meghan said, "how was your date?"

"Perfect," Teddy smiled, "why are you crying?"

"I'm going to get Leo and take him home," Owen said.

"I'll get him," Teddy said, "Megan do you want tea?"

"Please," Megan said.

"I'll get Leo then make it," Teddy said.

Teddy went with Owen to get the kids he gave Allison a quick kiss on the cheek and whispered good night before picking up Leo to carry him across the hall.

When the door was closed behind Owen, Teddy asked, "Megan why are you crying?"

"Nathan isn't too happy with me," Megan said.

"Why," Teddy asked.

"I ran here, we fought about the posting here," Megan said, "now after being her with Owen and you and the kids I think I want to come. But nathan doesn't want to move. He's really happy at UCLA he's running his department he wants to stay but I want the career I dreamed of."

Teddy sat with Megan on the couch, "what's more important? Career or your family?"

"I want both," Megan said.

"What does Riggs say," Teddy asked.

"He doesn't want to uproot again so soon," Megan said, "I wasn't going to consider it but then I saw you and I've been in the hospital this week. I want to be with you guys and work with Owen again."

"We still haven't decided if he's staying beyond his six month contract," Teddy said, "it's been two weeks. And honestly at this moment if he wanted to go back to Seattle and home I would go with him. I would rather step down and into a lesser position and be with him than stay here alone."

"He said he'll stay here if it's offered he won't leave you," Meghan said.

"He's walked away before he's chosen others before," Teddy said.

"So has Nathan," Megan said.

"There will be promotions in LA," Teddy said, "I will take my leaves now that I have reason to and come see you. Bring Allison to see her family. You have 6 or 8 weeks of leave a year come see us for some of them."

"Christmas at Mom's in Seattle," Megan suggested.

"Yes with all three kids," Teddy agreed, "Megan is everything okay with Riggs?"

"Yes," Megan said, "it just scared him when I flew here without him."

"Watching Owen get into a medical vehicle without me scared me for years," Teddy said, "he's worried about you. You leave Sunday, will he pick you up?"

"He will," Megan said.

"I did this wrong Megan," Teddy said, "I should have stayed in Seattle and fought for Owen for our daughter."

"You're working it out now," Megan said, "I miss Nate and I miss my son."

"Go home to them," Teddy said, "stay in LA there will be other promotions coming. Enjoy your fiance and son."

"I will," Megan said, "I wasn't expecting your offer."

"It's an offer," Teddy said, "it's not orders."

"I think this time I need to say no for Nathan and Faroke," Megan said.

"Be with your family and we'll come see you when we can and you'll come see us when you can," Teddy said, "we can face time once a week so the kids know each other."

"When do you have time off," Meghan asked.

"July," Teddy replied.

"You'll bring Allison to see us," Megan asked.

"Always," Teddy said, "if you had asked at any time to come see us I would have said yes."

"I didn't know if you wanted us with a new baby," Megan said.

"I would have loved it," Teddy said.

"I'm going to go to bed," Megan said.

"One more family day for all of us tomorrow," Teddy said.

Megan went to get her shoes, "Teddy theres a note under your door."

"Owen," Teddy smiled.

"You pass notes like teenagers," Megan laughed.

"Just give me the note," Teddy said.

"Good night," Megan said hugging Teddy.

"Night Meg," Teddy said, "don't bug Owen too much."

"I'll try."

When Megan let her self into Owens she saw his bedroom door was closed and there was no light coming from under it. She decided to leave him alone for now. They had looked happy when they came in to get their kids. Teddy's cheeks had been flushed and both had silly smiles. Owen had kept his hand on Teddy's back when he followed her to get Leo.

Teddy read the note before getting ready for bed.

Teddy,

That was some first date! The best first date I've ever had. I love you more than I thought was possible. These last two weeks have been perfect as our family. I love our evenings on your couch with tea and a movie after the kids go to bed and walking to work together in the mornings. Tomorrow let's leave Meg with the kids again and we can take a walk with a cup of coffee. It's supposed to snow again.

I guess this is good night gorgeous. See you in the morning. It's my turn to make breakfast.

I love you,

Owen

Teddy wrote a quick note back and hoped it wouldn't be intercepted by Megan. They both liked their little notes, tucking them under doors or into strollers, even leaving them on each other's desks at work.

Owen,

Tonight was perfect! It was the best first date ever. I loved our moonlit walk in the snow. Owen I still haven't caught my breath from that kiss. I think I know how we have our daughter after 24 hours together. I love you. I'm looking forward to our window seat cuddles while the kids nap tomorrow and all of us reading a bedtime story. Our family feels right.

Good night handsome. I'll see you in the morning.

Love you,

Teddy
