[2 Weeks later]
So far Bella wasn't experiencing too many issues, just the slight dizziness from time to time, but her blood tests came back great, and she had no deficiencies. Robert was imprisoned after seeing the Silent Brothers. Adriel had been silent, and Bella was starting to get worried. Demon activity was starting to pick up again, and that meant that Alec was away from the Institute more, and that worried her more than anything. She just wanted him to come back home to her. She was nine weeks pregnant according to Carlisle, and she was due October 1st. Everyone in the Institute knew. Izabell was ecstatic to become an auntie, and Clary was just as excited. Since she agreed to marry Alec, Clary, Alice and Izabell had been planning a wedding, even though Alec and Bella both begged for them to not go crazy, and plan something large.
It was close to midnight now, and Alec hadn't made it back from patrol, but things were quiet in the Institute. Bella wandered into the library. She spent a lot of time there, studying up on Shadowhunter history, and understanding the runes more. She could read them, but the application of particular runes were still something of uncertainty.
Simon wandered into the library to check on her. "Hey, shouldn't you be in bed?"
"Hmm. Well, I can't sleep well at night when Alec isn't here." She said, and leaned back in the chair.
"He's fine." Simon showed her the tablet. "Vitals are strong, no demon activity on his side for patrol. His patrol is over in an hour."
"Thanks," Bella said, offering a smile. Simon was always in command. Since Victor's visit, Simon was working hard on the program, and the tech behind it, and it was nearly ready to apply in the field across all Institutes.
Suddenly an alarm started going off, and Simon frowned, looking at the tablet, heading back towards command quickly. Bella jumped up, rushing out after Simon. "What's happening?"
"There's a breech in the Institute." Simon said, pulling up cameras in different areas of the Institute, looking for the breech. He sent alerts to Alec, Izabell, Clary, and Jace first, then alerted the others. "Bella, you need-"
A portal ripped open in command. A man stepped out of it. His hair was a brilliant shade of blonde, and his eyes were like pitch.
"Jonathan." Bella breathed.
The man snapped his attention over to Bella. "Isabella." He said. "You're coming with me."
"You're dead." She said, shaking her head. Jonathan didn't show any emotion on his face, and his accented voice reminded her from her childhood. He reached out and grabbed Bella's arm but snapped his attention towards Jasper and Jake who rushed into command. "Make a move and I will kill her." He threatened and everyone stopped. "Good. I already have the painting. I just need to borrow my sister for a bit. Ciao." He said, and then he pulled Bella with him through the portal.
They were enveloped by darkness briefly, before appearing on the deck of a ship. Bella looked around, her eyes widen with shock. "Jonathan, what are you doing?"
"I need you to retrieve the cup from the painting sister. Mother is in a slumber, and we can't wake her." Jonathan said, walking towards some stairs that lead to below the deck.
"What? Jonathan you can't be working for Valentine." Bella said, walking after her brother.
Jonathan turned and looked at her. "You're right. I'm not working for him."
"But….but the fire, you were killed."
"I wasn't killed, and neither was our father." Jonathan said.
Valentine appeared then. He was the same, from Bella's memory of him. His dark eyes were like Bella's, and even though his hair was gone now, his dark beard was proof that he once had dark hair too. It was true that Bella favored Valentine more than she favored her own mother. "My angel."
Bella stared at Valentine. "Where is my mother?"
"She's safe. That's not important right now."
[The Institute]
Alec rushed into command. "What happened?" His voice was angry.
"A man, he referred to Bella as his sister." Jasper said immediately.
"Jonathan Morgenstern is dead." Alec said, looking at Jasper.
Simon shook his head. "Bella called him Jonathan. She was shocked to see him. He came here in a portal. He took her and the painting. He threatened to kill her if any of us moved."
Alec felt the anger swell inside him. Felt the fear of what was happening to her right now. He had to get to her. "Find her."
Simon nodded. "Already did. They're out on the water. The ship that he's using has to be cloaked. He's been right in front of us the entire time." He said, pulling up the screen.
"How are her vitals?" Alec asked, looking at the screen.
"Steady. She's calm." Simon said.
"I need to get on that ship. Someone get Magnus Bane here." Alec said, and tried to keep his anger in check, as he stared at the screen. He wanted on that ship. He was going to get Bella back, and his unborn children.
[Valentine's Ship]
"I won't let you have the cup." Bella said defiantly.
Valentine made a tsking sound. "My dear daughter. It wasn't a request. I need the cup."
Jonathan looked at his sister. "Listen to our father Isabella."
"He's not my father." Bella said, her eyes not leaving Valentine's. "You'll never get that cup. I can't do what our mother does. Only she has that ability. I don't." She lied.
Valentine narrowed his eyes. "You see, I don't believe you. I think that you can do it."
"Even if I could. I wouldn't. It's my duty to protect this world, and without that cup, that makes you less powerful."
"I could kill you."
"Then you'll definitely, never see that cup again." Bella spat.
Valentine crossed his arms. "Give me the cup, and I won't kill all the family you have left."
"If you would seriously kill your own children for some bastardized claim that Shadowhunters are superior to Downworlders, so that you can be a ruler, then you are already a lost cause, and I will gladly die for the cause." She bluffed. She worried about the babies she was carrying, and she was already formulating a plan to get herself to safety. She had to fight back if it came to it, so that she could survive, so her children could.
Valentine studied his daughter. She was as ferocious as Jocelyn was. It was something that he used to admire in Jocelyn, but now he seen it as a threat. "You will not defy me as your mother did. I will dump her body in the middle of the ocean now, and let her be lost forever."
Bella didn't believe that he would do something that insane. Valentine was many things, but he did love her mother, he had gone insane, but she didn't think that he was that misguided. "I will find her. Nothing will ever stop me from finding her." A rune came to her, and she slipped her stele from her pocket slowly, not making any noticeable movements. "Valentine, you think that you hold all the cards. You don't." She looked at the painting. "I'll retrieve the cup for you."
Valentine's eyes lit up. "I knew you would make the right choice."
Bella walked over to the painting, and reached into the painting, pulling the cup out. She took her stele then and marked the cup with her stele, a rune that was only known to her.
"What are you doing?" Valentine looked panicked.
Bella looked at him. "This rune is like a timebomb. I want my mother. If I don't get her, then I will activate the rune, and it will destroy the cup, and you won't be able to use it. Ever."
Valentine looked at Jonathan. "Go get Jocelyn." He said, his voice quipped.
Jonathan only nodded and disappeared.
"Once I'm away from the ship, safely, with my mother, only then will I let you know the rune that will deactivate this rune." Bella said, her voice calm.
Jonathan returned, Dot with him, and her mother, would was encased in a purple shell that seemed to be protecting her.
"Dot…"Bella murmured. She noticed the physical stress on Dot's body. The poison that seemed to be flowing through her veins. That was how Jonathan got into the Institute. How he was able to take the painting, and her.
"Hand me the cup." Valentine said, reaching for the cup.
Bella looked at the cup, and then walked over to her mother, her floating body moving easy with the brush of her hand. It was an odd sensation to be able to touch her mother without touching her. She moved her mother to the side. She handed Valentine the cup. Then with her stele, she made a rune, a portal rune, and she pushed her mother through it.
"How…" Valentine said, looking at the portal.
"I'm an angel…remember, dad." Bella said, her voice sarcastic. She reached over, grabbing Jonathan's hand, inscribing a rune on it. "That rune will deactivate the rune on the cup. I leave your fate in your son's hands." She said and looked at Jonathan. "I wept for you." She said, fighting the tears. She stepped backwards into the portal and then disappeared.
Bella felt the darkness consume her and her mother and then she was back in the Institute.
Magnus looked up at her shocked as she walked out of a portal. A portal not made by a warlock.
"I don't have time to explain. Get better wards up. We have about ten minutes before the ship explodes on the harbor. We have probably five minutes before Valentine and Jonathan realize that the cup is fake."
Alec grabbed Bella into his arms, hugging her to him. "You were gone…. for hours. We were getting ready to storm the ship." He kissed her hard on the mouth.
"I'm okay. Jonathan has completely lost himself. He's not working for Valentine; he's working with him. There's no saving either of them. Magnus, help my mother. I believe she's under a warlock spell."
Magnus nodded, looking down at Jocelyn. "She used the potion I made her." He said. "I'll have her awake after I get the wards in place."
"Dot is being poisoned and used by Valentine and Jonathan. She can't be allowed to break the ward and portal into the Institute," She explained quickly.
"I'll make sure it can't be breeched again." Magnus said and disappeared.
"You should sit." Alec said, dragging a chair over.
"I'm pregnant, not disabled." Bella said and ran a hand through her hair. "We take-"
A rumble shook the Institute and a light flashed, and suddenly Adriel was there.
"You've got very bad timing." Bella said, looking at Adriel.
Adriel shook his head. "No, I got here as soon as I could. The cup?"
"Safe." Bella said. There was an explosion on the harbor. "Right on time." She said and looked at Adriel. "There's going to be an outpoor of demons."
"I'll defend the Institute." Adriel said with a nod. "I need the Shadowhunters to stay out of my way."
Bella nodded. "I should-"
"Should stay here."
"I know." Bella said, looking at Adriel. "What I was saying, I should help Magnus with mom. I need her awake."
"Sounds like a solid plan." Adriel said and turned, looking around the room. A lot were shocked to see an angel in person. "Stay put." He said and he extended his wings, and then he was gone.
Magnus returned. "Wards are in place." He said, looking at Jocelyn. "Let's move her to infirmary." He said and Bella helped get her situated in the other room. Alec followed. "Alexander, I need to have room. Leave Bella and me to this. Go back to command."
Alec hesitated, looking at Bella.
"I'll be okay. Go." Bella said and turned her attention on her mother.
[6 hours later]
The demons were all vanquished, and the ship on the harbor had sunk. They knew that Valentine and Jonathan had escaped, only to be caught by Adriel. The imprisonment of Jonathan and Valentine Morgenstern was a shock that went through all of Idris. It was already a shock that Robert Lightwood had something to do with it, and Hodge Starkweather, who was found funneling information to Valentine as well. Jocelyn was awake now, but still very tired.
Bella was exhausted by the end of everything, but she was glad to see her mom awake.
"Mom." Bella said, sitting on the bed next to her. "I was so worried." She leaned her head on her mom's shoulder.
Clary was still in the field, doing round up on some rogue Shadowhunters with Jace and the others.
Alec walked into infirmary, looking tired himself. "Hey."
Bella smiled. "Hey, you okay?"
"Yeah. It got rocky there for a moment." Alec said and looked to Jocelyn. "It's nice to have you back in one piece Ms. Fairchild."
Jocelyn looked at Alec. "Thank you, for keeping my girls safe. I should have told them about this world, but I was just….too afraid."
Bella stood then, kissing the top of her mom's head. "It's okay. What matters is you're here now, and Clary and I are okay."
Alec nodded. "You should lay down. You've been through a lot today. A lot of stress."
"I'm okay. Just tired." She walked over to him and just hugged him, his arms coming around her gently. He kissed the top of her head. She turned and looked at her mom. "I do need to tell you something mom."
"You're both dating?" Jocelyn guessed. Just seeing how Alec looked at her and how Bella looked at him, made her think that the two were involved.
"Yes. It's more than that," Bella said with a smile. "We're getting married."
Jocelyn blinked a few times. "What?"
Bella looked at Alec. "We've been through a lot, that much is true, but we love each other without any doubt. I agreed to marry him." She smiled.
Jocelyn teared up. She didn't realize how long she had been missing, or that she missed so much. "That's so great. Maryse will be thrilled."
Bella smiled, and looked at Alec, who gave her a nod. "We haven't told Maryse yet. About the engagement, but also. Mom," she paused. "Alec and I…. we're pregnant."
"Oh." Jocelyn felt the wave of shock rush over her. She felt a mixture of feelings. "Motherhood is one of the best rewards." She choked up.
"Mom?" Bella frowned and went back over to her. "Are you upset?"
"No no, I'm just. I missed out on a lot being missing. I'm really happy. Bella, you're going to do so great." Jocelyn smiled. "This world was a world I tried to hide from you, and I know that was wrong. You're so fierce and so strong. You're incredible."
Bella got emotional. "Oh mom." She hugged her. "I love you."
"I love you too, my sweet daughter." Jocelyn said, kissing her daughter's cheek, and then she wiped her own face. "A baby is a big step, and of course I'm here every step of the way."
"Good, because we're going to need help. We're having twins."
"Twins!" Jocelyn exclaimed. "That is amazing, truly." She smiled and looked at Alec. "Oh, come here, you get a hug too."
Alec hesitated, but he leaned down, hugging Jocelyn, who planted a kiss on his cheek. "Thank you, Ms. Fairchild."
"Jocelyn. You call me Jocelyn, or whatever, but not Ms. It makes me feel old, and I already feel old becoming a grandmother." She said with a smile.
[2 months later]
"My dress is really tight," Bella complained. Her bump was showing now, and the wedding was today. She would officially be Mrs. Alexander Lightwood. It was something that she was both excited and nervous for. Maryse was going through a lot with Robert's imprisonment, but she was hanging in there. She was thrilled to know that Alec was happy and was marrying Bella. Maryse and Jocelyn were best friends before, and seeing their children together was just amazing, and she couldn't be happier. Despite Alec worrying about what his mother would think, marrying the daughter of Valentine. Maryse didn't see Bella as the daughter of Valentine, but just a daughter, the daughter of her best friend, and a daughter that she was happy to bring into her own little family. And soon, she would be welcoming grandchildren, that she was more than happy to meet once they got here. Bella was nearly eighteen weeks pregnant, with a boy and a girl. It was the one of each that Bella was hoping for.
The cup had been retrieved from the book that Bella hid it in, which Victor thought was really cleaver, and today at the wedding ceremony, Simon would be drinking from the cup as well, to become a Shadowhunter officially. Luke opted to take the Clave up on their offer of becoming a Shadowhunter again, and so that would be officially happening as well. Another wolf was taking the oath as well, Mia. And she was happy to be apart of something greater.
"Oh, you hush, you look great." Maryse said, helping Jocelyn fluff out Bella's dress at the bottom. They were in Alicante, the capital, and homeland of all the Shadowhunters. It was beautiful here, and Bella really did like visiting here.
Bella smiled, taking in a deep breath. "Okay. Where's Clary?"
"I'm here, I had to get your veil." Clary said, walking into the room with short veil, and wearing the sapphire blue maid of honor dress that Clary picked for the wedding. Then Izabell, Rosalie, and Alice were the other maids. Alec's best man was Jace of course, and then Jasper, Embry, and Jake were his groomsmen.
She situated Bella's veil in her hair and took a step back. "You're beautiful." Clary said with a wide smile.
"Thank you."
Jocelyn teared up. "You're getting married."
"Oh mom." Bella murmured.
Luke knocked on the door. "Oh wow." He murmured, looking at Bella. "You are gorgeous."
"Thank you. Are you ready?"
Luke nodded. "Yes. I am walking the bride down the aisle. I practiced, to make sure I won't trip." He smiled and went to Bella and hugged her, kissing the top of her head.
Jocelyn smiled. Luke was amazing with Bella and Clary. They looked up to him, and Bella had asked Luke to walk her down the aisle, that made Luke get so emotional. He loved the girls, like they were his very own. She knew that Luke was perfect in every way, and she loved him very much. Now with the threat of Valentine over, she could allow herself to be happy, with him.
Bella chuckled. "Just don't let me trip." She said and then she linked her arm in his. "I'm ready."
The music started and Jocelyn and Maryse walked down the aisle, and sat in their spots, and then Victor, and Alec walked down the aisle and stop up at the front. Jace walked Clary down the aisle, smiling at each other. Then Alice and Embry, Rosalie and Jasper, and then Jake and Izabell. Then the music changed, and Simon walked down the aisle, sprinkling petals after jokingly stating he would be the perfect flower boy. Then it was Luke and Bella's turn to walk down the aisle.
Alec watched as Bella glided towards him. His breath hitched in his throat, as he was breathless, and speechless, her beauty radiating as she walked towards him. Luke handed Bella off and winked at Alec.
Victor smiled, looking at Bella and Alec standing before them. The rest of the Clave was situated in the audience, as were other Shadowhunters from all over. "People of Idris. We're gathered here today, in the union of Alexander Lightwood, and Isabella Fairchild. They have made a commitment to each other and to the Clave. Beyond duty for the Mundane world, they have duty and honor to each other." He began the ceremony. "Traditionally there are vows that are prewritten, but we're Alec has prepared some vows of his own, and Bella as well."
Alec smiled, rubbing his thumb over her hands. "Bella, you are…so infuriating at times." He started, and there were some chuckles. "From the moment I laid eyes on you, I couldn't get you out of my head. I know…I fought it for a while…fought you. I don't think I have ever thanked you enough or told you how grateful I am for you. You saved me from myself. You've shown me a light like no other, and I cannot go through life without. I love you with every fiber of my being. I have never been as happy as I am now. With you by my side, I can conquer anything. You make me a better version of myself, so thank you for picking me. For being patient with me, for loving me. For making me a husband and making me a father. I love you…. forever."
Bella teared up, smiling up at him. "Alec. Oh Alec." She let out a shaky breath. "You have no idea; how broken I was before I stumbled across a universe with you in it. I was so hurt, feeling so much pain I could barely breath sometimes, but you fixed me. It was like magic, almost quite literally. I am bratty, temperamental, and sometimes I'm just stubborn but you put up with it. You put up with me." She said with a laugh. "I could never repay the amount of love you have shown me, but I'm going to try my hardest to be the best version of myself, for you, as your wife. You've made me a mother, and I could never be happier than I am now to start a life with you. We not only save the world, but we save each other, each day we live and breathe together. I love you Alec, forever." She wiped her face as tears escaped.
There weren't many dry eyes in the audience as Bella and Alec exchanged their vows. Victor even felt himself grow emotional. "As per tradition, a unity rune will tie these two together. Even more, they will exchange their rings." He announced, and then Alec took his stele from his pocket. He drew the unity rune on Bella's hand, and in turn, she used the rune on him as well. They exchanged their rings and looked over at Victor. "With the power vested in me by the order of the Clave, and in front of the angels, I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may kiss your bride."
Alec smiled and then pulled her close to him and kissed her softly. People cheered, and clapped, and then they were going back down the aisle, hands linked.
The reception was beautiful, thanks to Alice Cullen. She was really good at party planning it seemed like. The reception was where the ceremony for Luke, Simon, and Mia would take place.
Victor and Clary were standing, talking to each other about the suppression rune for Luke and Mia. Luke already received the month prior, and so far, it was working.
Victor waited until after everyone had finished eating to begin. "Good evening everyone. I hope everyone has been enjoying themselves." He said with a smile. "As some of you know. Clary and Bella have capabilities beyond our own. They create new runes, and Bella herself, is an angel. With that, and the retrieval of the cup, we're able to introduce more Shadowhunters to our ranks. Many of you know of Lucian Graymark." He said and motioned for Luke to stand, and he did. "Luke was a loyal member of our Shadowhunter world, for many years before his unfortunate accident with Werewolves. With Clary and Bella's help we have successfully treated the Lycanism and provided a cure. With that cure, we are now able to use the cup, to gain Luke back to our ranks." He announced and there were some claps for Luke. "Joining him, is Maia Roberts. A werewolf from the Brooklyn pack, that is pledging her allegiance to the Shadowhunters, and has proved to be a dedicated ally in the effort to stop and bring Valentine to justice."
Maia stood at Victor's gesture and smiled, she was nervous and excited to begin this journey with Luke. She would follow him anywhere. Her light ebony skin was brilliantly glowing, and her dark eyes showed the spark of excitement within her.
"Simon Lewis, an unforgettable ally, has brought us the tech that you wear today that allows us to keep up with the Shadowhunters in the field, take care in making sure that everyone gets medical attention quickly in the event something awful does happen. It helps with better training strategies, and much much more. He is irreplaceable, and for that, has been offered to drink from the cup, which he has humbly accepted." Victor motioned to Simon and Simon stood. "Today you stand here, allies in a war, that you did not have to help with. Today you become full members of our society."
People clapped and cheered.
Bella watched as Luke drank from the cup first and received his new Angelic mark. Then Maia, who was marked with her suppression rune before drinking form the cup and gaining her rune. Then was Simon, who drank from the cup, and was marked with his rune. They were all Shadowhunters now.
The ceremony was quick, and Luke spent time talking to his sisters, who were called the Iron sisters. They were part of the reason why they had the weapons they did.
Magnus was allowed passage to Alicante to be there for the wedding. He pulled Bella into a dance. "You are a beautiful bride."
Bella smiled up at him. "Thank you and thank you for everything. Without you…I wouldn't have been able to remember everything, and my mom would still be in that weird slumber."
"Oh biscuit. There isn't anything that I wouldn't do for you." Magnus said with a catlike grin.
"My dreams of you. Were we ever?"
"We were never intimate my dear. Though, maybe if this was a different world, we would have been. Like I told you before. I am a downworlder, never worthy of an angel. "Magnus said, and looked at Alec. "He is exceptional. I'm so very happy and proud for you." He kissed her cheek. "You will be a mother soon, and you will make an excellent one. I am always here for you."
Bella smiled. "I don't know what I would do without you."
The song ended, and so Magnus bowed to Bella slightly. "It is I, who wouldn't know what to do without you." He said with a wink, and then handed her off to Alec, when he walked over. "Congrats you two." He said and disappeared to get some refreshments.
"Hey you." Bella said, smiling up at Alec.
"Hey yourself. You're quite popular, I didn't know if I'd ever get a chance to dance with you again." Alec teased.
"Hmm, well, you're quite popular yourself. Talking to so many clave members." Bella said with a smile.
"Yes, just them congratulating me. Also, condolences on my father, but I'm not too caught up with that. He was sentenced, and he is wrong." Alec said and then leaned in and kissed her. "I can't wait to get you home tonight." He murmured.
Bella smiled. "Me either. I want you to rip this dress off me."
"I think I can do that." He said and kissed her.
Bella was right where she wanted to be. She was so happy that she was finally experiencing all this happiness and love. She was excited to be a mother despite it being a pure accident. She couldn't wait to see what else this journey could bring her.
