Rebel? Rebel against Adderstar, and her scary eyes? Was Midnightfeather going crazy? They would be punished severely for even mentioning it, let alone acting on it! Sunflowerstep stopped in her tracks.
"Are you completely mouse-brained?" Midnightfeather looked a little shocked at Sunflowerstep's sharp words, "How would we do it? What if we got caught? We would be murdered!" She pointed out, "How do you think our families would feel if we disappeared? Think of your sister, Midnightfeather-" The black she-cats face flickered with worry at that, "-I'm already starving because of my own frustrations." Sunflowerstep lowered her head, "Do have any idea how it feels to know your own leader is trying to starve you?"
"That's precisely why we should rebel!" Her head shot up, "Adderstar has been a cruel leader for too long!" Midnightfeather stood her ground.
"Are you even listening to me? Why can't we just be content, try and get on her good side and live our lives normally like everyone else? Why do we have to rebel? Why are you even suggesting this to me of all cats?" Sunflowerstep tilted her head, "Sure, we were friends as kits, but we haven't talked since then. You drifted off, got quiet, adsorbed in your own problems, and now you're suggesting to rebel?"
"Aren't you tired of living like this? We live every single day under the control of Adderstar. Don't you want to be free? You just seemed like a cat that was suffering, and I assumed you would agree with the idea." Midnightfeather looked a little exasperated.
"Well I don't." Sunflowerstep's voice cracked, her hard face breaking a little. She wasn't very good at being assertive or stern. In fact, this was the best she had ever been at it, and she had surprised herself. "We shouldn't even be talking about this at all." She brushed past the other she-cat and kept walking. Midnightfeather was not going to ruin her chance to get some fresh air.
Midnightfeather hurried to catch up and fell in step with Sunflowerstep, "I get it, you're nervous-" She began again, "-but taking risks is part of life, and this is for a good cause. If we rebel, we can free dozens of cats from unjust rule. You wouldn't have to be with Brackenflight, and I wouldn't be stuck with Snowfoot!"
"Oh so that is what this is about! You just want to get away from Snowfoot!" Sunflowerstep hissed, she was getting annoyed.
Midnightfeather flattened her ears and her eyes widened, "No!"
"Yes! You've always hated him, it's obvious." Sunflowerstep shook her head, "I'll have no part in it." Midnightfeather surely had feathers in her brain. She would simply have to suffer like the rest of them. Rebelling was fruitless, and she should have known it. They were all simply hopeless. "I'm ready to go back now." She sniffed and lifted her head. "Take me back now."
"Alright." Midnightfeather consented in defeat and turned around leading the way back to camp.
It was a short way, but it was enjoyable with Midnightfeather no longer speaking of rebellion. Sunflowerstep felt ready for a nap, but she couldn't possibly sleep with the thoughts buzzing in her brain like a bunch of bees. They were so noisy! She huffed and sat down in the shade where she had talked with Midnightfeather earlier. She pawed at a small tuft of grass by her paws and settled down, letting herself relax. She could think about the conversation later.
Ehhh, it's a kinda half-baked chapter, but it's what I came up with. I suppose it was kind of interesting.
