That evening, Hilda is sleeping in her bedroom. At first she looked fine, but suddenly she started having muscle convulsions. It's as if her dream has been turned into a nightmare.
Inside her head, she's having a beautiful dream of standing on stage in the Sparrow Scout Hall where everyone is applauding for her for accomplishing in getting many badges for the year including Johanna who is in the audience, and Frida and David who were on stage with her. She is proud of herself, indeed.
"Bravo, Hilda. Bravo," a familiar voice and a sarcastic clapping are heard at the same time, and Bill appeared in front of her.
"You!" Hilda exclaimed in anger as she opens her right hand to summon a sword to be used against him. She tries attacking him with the weapon, but he dodges her blows and zaps her with a beam to stop her mid-air.
"Now, now is that any way to greet your grandfather?" Bill asked in a condescending tone regarding their connection before tossing her to the ground. Before she could do anything else, the ground she's standing on became like clay that it consumed her but leaving her head sticking out of it. Bill used his power to do just that and he is floating near her head as if he's above her. "You're an amazing creature, Hilda. You and I are not so different."
"I'm not like you. You're insane and a murderer," Hilda retorted.
"To each her own, I see. I chose my path, you chose your path to be a hero. They found you amusing for a while, the people of this city. But do you know what they love more than a hero? It's to see a hero fail, fall, die trying. In spite of everything you've done for them, eventually they will hate you. Why bother?"
It is in this very moment that Hilda thought back on the moments where she was hated. Ranging from Ms. Hallgrim for being disruptive in class, David blaming her for his nightmares that were caused by his Marra, and of course Frida lashing out on her when she failed to get her favorite book back.
Despite not wanting to say it, it made her realize that Bill is right. They're not so different from each other because of the moments where she was hated like him for what she is, even if they had no idea on what's in her blood. She thought back on how she acted in her falling out with Frida days ago; she was acting like she owned her as if she was having delusions of grandeur. The fact that she's Bill's granddaughter made her worry, fearing she may have inherited his traits.
"You're thinking about it, aren't you? I can see it like a movie in your head," Bill said.
"Still, it's the right thing to do," Hilda snapped out of her thoughts and tried to fight back with her ideology.
"Here's the real truth, granddaughter," he puts his arm on her head, making her feel uncomfortable. "Normal people in the world don't understand our talents because they have evolved beyond our thinking. You and me, we're exceptional," he leans in to grab her neck. "I could just squash you like a bug right now, but I'm offering you a choice. Join me. Imagine what we could accomplish together. We could do whatever we want in this whole wide world."
Hilda couldn't fight it anymore.
"Don't worry, you have plenty of time to think in the next day which is coincidentally your camping trip," Bill said as he floats in front of her face. "Wanna hear my impression of you in about three seconds? AAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" Hilda screamed as she woke up from bed with the same expression the following morning.
"Hilda!" Johanna runs to her side to comfort her. "It's okay, it's okay."
"Not when I had a nightmare because of him."
"It's Bill, isn't he?"
Her daughter nodded.
"I believe in you, Hilda. I believe you can overcome him when the time is right," Johanna reassured her.
"I sure hope so, Mum," Hilda said with doubt in her expression, but she has belief in her words.
