A/N: Hello all I have notes for you at the bottom. Enjoy the chapter! I had a lot of fun writing this one!

Natsu settled in, his arm snaking its way around Lucy's shoulders as Kade sat between them. The movie was half way through, the iconic scene of Toothless and Hiccup learning how to fly together for the first time. Lucy leaned into him, not minding the heavy weight encasing her. Natsu smelled of smoke and cinnamon, like being in front of a campfire. Comforting in a way she couldn't describe. She cuddled closer trying to subtly catch the rich scent again. Kade, unknown to any other presence besides the film in front of him, watched in awe, like the first time his mother had shown him. Reliving the scene as if he were on the back of Toothless himself, feeling the salty air around him and the wind rushing past his ears. He leaned forward as they fell from the sky, helpless to the situation at hand and Hiccup desperate to grab onto Toothless. His breath caught at the music blaring out of the TV as they neared the ground, before they could hit the earth before them, Hiccup latches on and lets instinct guide him out of the rocky area. As they round the last bend, Hiccup belts out, "Yes!" followed by Toothless letting out a plasma bolt and flying through it.

Reseating himself between the two adults, he allows himself to relax and enjoy the moment at hand between his two favorite people and his favorite movie. Natsu smiled down at the boy, caught up in his imagination, it seemed he didn't know how much he hovered over the edge of the couch when the duo were falling through the air. Natsu remenesses about the time he was enthralled into a movie. He lived it as if he himself was the character, he could relate to Kade in experiencing the movie as if he himself was the protagonist. Natsu, Lucy, and Kade stayed like that for the remainder of the movie, falling into a comfortable silence watching the movie. By the time it was over, Kade was dead weight between the two.

Natsu let out a low laugh, the sound throaty and deep. "Poor guy wore himself out."

Lucy smiled at her son, brushing strands of his golden hair out of his face. "If you think he's out now, you should see him after soccer practice or games. That boy is dead to the world."

Natsu let out another chuckle, Lucy enjoying the rumbling vibrating out of his chest and onto her skin. It felt like static against her skin, but in the best way possible. Lucy let out a shiver.

"You cold?" Natsu asked oblivious to her thoughts, or what had caused her to shiver was anything but the cold. Natsu was a walking furnace after all. He began rubbing her arm to generate some heat, but her skin like a live wire of electricity, wherever his hands went goosebumps trailed after.

She shook her head, looking up at him through thick lashes quietly admitted, "No."

"Weirdo."

Lucy huffed at his statement. Seemed either she was weird or strange for anything she did these days. Lucy began lifting Kade off the couch, when Natsu offered, "Allow me." relenting she watched as Natsu gently scooped the boy into his arms and cradled his head in the crook of his neck. Kade sleepily held onto Natsu as he made his way to Kade's room. Lucy took the remote and turned off the TV, following after him. Lightly stepping into the room, she stared at the scene in front of her. Natsu tucked Kade into his bedding and wished him a good night, rubbing his head lightly before looking at her. Lucy did her nightly routine of wishing him sweet dreams.

"Good night my little dragon. I love you."

"G'night mommy." Kade slurred as he fought sleep for a second longer before giving into it dozing soundly in his bed. Natsu walked out of the hall, Lucy following suit after him and closing the door.

They made their way back to the couch and sat next to each other again. "Thank you for inviting me over again. It was nice to have dinner like that."

"Yeah, it was, wasn't it?" Lucy played with his fingers in her lap. Finding the task distracting.

Natsu grabbed her hands and interlaced them, a small blush dusting his cheeks. "Luce," he struggled to get the words out, throat tightening in protest.

"Hmm?" she hummed in question on what was causing him to act so strange all of a sudden.

"There was something I've been meaning to ask you for a while now." His voice taught and body rigid.

"Whatever it is you have my attention now." she tried joking, only to find that he gave a small nod in response. Whatever he wanted to say, it was either serious, or important.

"Well over the past five months now, I have never had as much fun with anyone else 'sides to my old man. Nor have I caught myself looking forward to hanging out and spending time with someone as much as I have with you. And I don't know when it began, but I know that when I'm with the both of you I feel like I'm at the top of the world and can do almost anything. I have so much fun with the both of you. Don't even get me started on Kade, that boy is one of the sweetest 3 year olds I know and I don't know what you taught him but it just shows what an incredible mother you are." he sucked in a breath and drew it out. Afraid, he looked anywhere but at Lucy, "Luce, whenever I'm with you I always know that an adventure waits and I don't want that feeling to stop. I look forward to our time at the arcade, or picnics, or hell even the soccer tournaments." he ran shaky hands through his hair, "what I'm trying to say, is will- god I sound like such a teenager." He looked at her then, "Will you go out with me?"

Lucy stared at him for a long moment. Processing all that he had said. Her eyes welled up with tears. Here he was giving his all and she just sat there. She opened her mouth, forcing words to escape but nothing happened. His eyes darted to her, searching, pleading.

"Natsu" she finally ground out, her voice wavered. "Natsu. I-I don't know."

He looked at her then, really looked at her. She felt his piercing gaze deciding that she owed him this much. "Kade is and will always be my first priority, but starting a relationship." she took a steading breath. "A commitment. I have loved watching you and Kade grow closer, but Natsu, what you are asking is a big request. Because if you and I grow closer, then so will Kade. He's already attached to you. Do you know that? As much as I want that and I do. I don't want my little boy getting attached to another man that will walk out of our lives-"

"-Who said anything about walking away Lucy?"

"We don't know if this-" she pointed between them "-us will work."

"I think we've done pretty good so far."

"Yes but Natsu what you're asking is something I don't know if I can afford."

"What do you mean by that?" he asked, his voice quieter than she's ever heard.

"I mean that us going out will get his hopes up about having a father, Natsu. You are the single most important person to him besides me. I know you coach kids. But this is different. You would fill the roll as the father figure whether you like it or not, and I don't want him getting hurt if things don't work out." She stood then, arms wrapped around herself squeezing her emotions down. She fought the tears in her eyes but it was a losing battle.

"I still don't see what's wrong with that?" he got up to face her, reaching out to touch her elbow. Lucy flinched away.

"Natsu I need you to take this seriously!" she broke her voice, a razors edge, years of hurt and turmoil reaching the surface.

"You don't think I am." he quietly stated, "Lucy, I don't know what happened to you before you came here but I would never," he placed his palm on his chest, "never, walk out on you guys without a fight."

She turned away, flinching at the past being brought out. Flashes of the man who had caused her to grow up too quickly and make a life changing choice came to the front of her mind. Tears streamed down her face, her eyes becoming red and puffy.

"I won't pry but all I ask is that you give me a chance." he placated. "Please Luce," he pleaded.

Lucy sniffed, "I think it's time for you to leave."

"Luce," he begged.

"Good night Natsu." she croaked.

Natsu walked to the door, quiet and withdrawn. He looked back at where she huddled in the living room, nails biting into her skin. "I'm sorry for ruining the evening. I hope you can forgive me, I didn't mean to make you cry that wasn't my intention. I of all people should know not to pry, when you're not ready. I'll see you at Kades practice. Feel free to text me whenever." regret present in the tenor of his voice, eyes downcast he looked at her one last time. "Goodbye Luce." The door closed with a soft click. Lucy rushed to her room and threw hearse;f on the bed, sobbing into her pillows to not wake Kade. She screamed her heart out, almost convinced that when he left he took it with him. She cried until tears no longer raced down her face.

Crying herself to sleep that night, she wonders what would have happened if she said yes. That night she dreamt of a man with dirty blonde hair and a smile that was full of lies and deceit.

A/N: Well now that was a fun one wasn't it XD not the way either of them expected it to go and Natsu even practiced for the evening. Kade was definitely me as a child in the movie theater, they had me on the edge of my seat during the test drive scene. Well I hope you all enjoyed the chapter! I'll see you all next week where we see where our 2 favorite people cope with the fight.
