Reader's Note: Alright folks… it is time for a major clue. If you've read all my linked stories, you will know that in my version of events Endymion had a sister who died before she could be born, along with his mother. In some of my stories I have hinted at the identity of that sister. Now I am giving you the biggest clue to who it is. Of all Usagi and Mamoru's friends… which one is most definitely NOT in this story? By the end of this chapter you will have seen many of them. Look for one who is important, but not spoken of at all in the Silver Millennium and you will be able to figure out who it is.

Author's Note: For those of you who are waiting for my book to come out… I am still waiting on the title's approval. I am hoping it will come any day now, but I've been told it could take another couple weeks. I am hoping to leave a code in one of my author's notes to give my fanfiction readers a free e-copy on Amazon, since it is only because of you that I am brave enough to publish it. If I can't do a code, I will post it for free for a week to give everyone a chance to get a copy. I will let you know as soon as it is up.

Chapter Seven
Prisoners

***Princess Serenity (Age 14)***

"Let me go with them Mother," Serenity pleaded. "Let me fight with my warriors."

"That will be up to Master Kenji," the Queen said, her smile kind. "If he says you are ready, then of course you will go. If he says you would be unsafe however…" her mother let the sentence go unfinished.

"I will go and speak with him then," Serenity said, considering what her mother was saying. If she was not skilled enough she would only endanger the girl they were going to save.

"I am here Majesty, Highness," Master Kenji said, stepping out from the shadows and nodding to the queen and her daughter. "I believe you should go with the others," he continued, his eyes distant as he paced forward. "But not to fight. Not this time. Your biggest gift lies not in your skill with a sword Princess, but in the kindness of your heart. I ask you to remain with your Senshi, safe within a protective circle, and that you be there for young Veronica, who must have been frightened, so long away from her family."

Serenity considered his words. As much as she wanted to be Sailor Moon, like her mother before her, Serenity knew that Veronica was probably lonely and frightened. Her entire solar system had been overrun, they had fled to the Silver Millennium, and then she had been kidnapped only a few months later. It was an awful chain of events, and not one Serentity could completely understand. But she knew loss, and fear, and sadness.

"I will do as you ask Master Kenji. I promise not to leave my Senshi, and not to order them to fight unless Dimande and Endymion approve."

"Very wise Highness," Master Kenji said. "You learn wisdom early. This old heart could not be more proud," he added with a smile that crinkled the corners of his eyes.

Serenity blushed under his gaze. His respect was something she valued greatly, and she would do her best not to lose it. Her mother had taught her early the cost of the crown, and she would not fail her people. Determined, Serenity turned and curtsied to her mother before backing away and turning to the younger Senshi, all of whom were saying their goodbyes to their own mothers.

Soon all five girls left the Throne Room and made their way along the corridors to the Teleportation Room. Serenity could hardly feel her feet on the floor. Everything seemed brighter than normal, and more clear. Her senses grew more heightened with each step, something that had not happened to her during training. Looking at the others she noticed their eyes were brighter, and constantly moving as they watched in every direction.

"Serenity!" Endymion's voice sounded shocked as he spied her from the doorway to the Teleporation Room. He hurried out to meet them. The other Senshi hurried past to take their places inside, but Serenity slowed, reaching out a hand to her Prince.

"Peace," she whispered, keeping her voice low. "I am not going as a fighter," she explained. "Master Kenji knows I can defend myself, should it become necessary, but he has asked that instead of fighting, I go as a help to Veronica, who must be frightened."

Endymion's jaw clenched tightly twice before he nodded. Then, fully relaxing, he pulled her close and wrapped both his arms around her. "Be careful," he whispered. "I think we will face a stronger evil than our parents sense. They feel we can overcome whatever has taken Veronica, but I am sensing… something. A presence far stronger than can be imagined."

Serenity let herself rest against Endymion's hard chest for a long moment, breathing in his spicy, earthy scent as she sent out her own senses. For the first time in memory, she pushed beyond the walls of the palace with her mind, searching for the presence Endymion spoke of. She felt several massive waves of bitter hatred coming from deep in the north of Terra. The imprisoned witch was stirring. There was also a feeling of immense power coming from the High Palace of Terra. Endymion's father.

Sending out her senses, Serenity found something quite interesting. She felt a power similar to what Barnabas had, though much stronger, but it was entirely surrounded by powers that echoed Endymion's. "You might be right," she said softly. "I think we might have a different surprise in store."

"I think you must be right," Endymion breathed, having followed her journey. "You've led us right to Veronica. I had no idea you were so strong. How have you trained yourself so quickly?"

"What do you mean?"

"You Searched," Endymion explained. "My father says it is a rare gift."

Serenity stared at him, confused. "I don't know," she said softly. "I just know how to find powers, and when I've found them once, I can always find them again." Blushing, she ducked her head.

"I think there is much more both of us must learn. But first, we must save Veronica. Come, Demande and Sapphir have brought friends."

"Who?" Serenity asked, excited.

"Esmeraude, Dimande's soulmate, as well as Rubeus, who is his cousin, and a few others who refused to be left behind. Very much like your Senshi, or my Shittennou. They are the protectors of the next ruler of the Dark of the Moon, and are just as loyal. They will keep the others safe."

"Good," Serenity said, catching sight of Minako, who was staring at Kunzite, running her fingers back and forth over the heavy practice blade she wore everywhere. She even slept with the blade beside her on the bed. Minako said she would know when she was ready to accept the Holy Sword, though Serenity didn't completely understand. She loved her Senshi, and would do anything for them, but all too often the lessons they learned were different.

"I have another surprise," Endymion added, grinning. "I took the liberty of calling in a friend."

***Veronica (Age 13)***

"Where are you?" Veronica yelled, her face pressed against the three metal bars in the doorway of the stone chamber. "Who are you?" she called a moment later.

She had been in the small, circular, stone prison for more than a full rotation of the Silver Moon around Terra, the planet that looked like her favorite Sho'shi game from home. The planet was like a beautiful Sho'shi orb shimmering in the sky.

She could see the earth and the moon from her prison, but Veronica did not know the planets of her new solar system well. She did not know which she was on, or how far away her brother was. She wished she was older. The Pegasus system had long been known for the ability of the people to work with metal. Unfortunately, the ability didn't appear until late in puberty, and Veronica was not yet a woman.

With a heavy sigh, she turned from the door and the lonely, empty hallway, and back to the room, which was full of things she loved. Her favorite books from this solar system lined the shelves that circled the room. A very pink bed with a large white canopy took up most of the space. And she had been gifted a wardrobe that matched her fondest fantasies.

It all meant nothing, trapped alone in a room, with no one to talk to, or to hug. She wanted to go home. Her brother, Barnabas, must already be searching for her, but what hope did he have in this new place? She had been taken off the moon they had settled. The soil of the planet she now rested on was black. She had never seen a single hint of light on the surface. She could see so much of the solar system, but she had no hope they could see her.

"Why is this happening?" she whispered, sitting in the lovely chair beside the small table that was already set with food. That was another question she wanted answered. How had she never even seen her captor? She had woken in the room, never having met whomever had moved her. Food simply appeared on the table the moment she was the least bit hungry, and whenever she wanted something, it materialized almost immediately.

But she had seen no one.

Veronica was more alone than she had ever been in her life. More than when her planet had been overtaken, and many of the people she had loved so much had been slaughtered in the streets on a whim by the invader queen. Even then, Barnabas had held her in his arms and carried her away as fast as he could run, to the escape pods, while their parents stayed behind to save as many other children as they could. All their efforts had saved less than a million people from three planets with trillions each.

There was no Barnabas to hold her hand and tell her stories of the Silver Queen of the Millennial Kingdom, and her Senshi, who had come to rescue them as they raced across the galaxy away from the following armies. There were no smaller children she could comfort. She was alone, truly, for the first time in her life.

Veronica went into the small washroom and splashed her face with cool water from the fountain. Catching sight of herself in the mirror, she stared into her own eyes, which were changing as she came closer and closer to accessing her powers. They had once been the bright blue of small children. Now they were nearly bronze, and growing more golden by the day. It had been a shock, that.

Among the people of the Pegasus system, the eye color indicated what your strongest metal affiliation would be. Hers would apparently be among the most precious of the metals, something that had not happened in her family for three generations. Her family were soldiers, protectors of the realm. They worked with steel and iron. Gold was meant for royalty.

"I don't get any of this," she whispered to herself, staring at the shimmering golden rings ringing her irises. They would grow larger and larger, until her adult eye color was complete. She hoped it would take many years. She did not want to marry some royal she didn't know. The royals of her own world had been slaughtered in front of everyone as soon as the battle was lost. None were left.

What was left for her now however? Who had taken her, and why?

"I hate this place," she said sadly, turning from the window and wiping away the tears she didn't want to shed. "I want to go home."

***Motoki (Age 17)***

"She weeps," Reika hissed, passing Motoki on the stairs.

"The little one?" Motoki asked, looking up as though he could see the tower bedroom from where he stood.

"Yes. She wishes to return to her home. She wishes for her brother."

"You know the Master has forbidden us from granting such wishes," Motoki answered her sadly. "I would return her this moment, but so long as he holds our souls we cannot disobey."

"You know," Reika said, leaning much closer to his ear, "the girl will one day be able to work metal of the strongest caliber. She could break the SoulTraps and free us."

"She is far too young to risk endangering her," Motoki answered sadly. "She could not begin to understand the consequences to herself should she break them. He might kill her instead of taking her as a bride."

Reika shuddered, her face a mirror of disgust at the thought of the man who had captured their souls, and the souls of every man, woman, and child, in their entire village. Now they were here, on some asteroid hidden behind Pluto, unable to go home, or to fight back against the SoulTraps, which forced them to obey the commands of their "Master" who had taken them. He was almost completely a mystery to the Terrans, who had known little of magic beyond the small skills of their own people, which were kept a closely guarded secret.

"What of your little sister?" Reika asked, looking worried. "Has she reappeared?"

"No," Motoki said, shaking his head sadly. "We have been forbidden from searching for her. I fear, by now, she is dead, out there somewhere," he added, waving his hand at the surface of the asteroid neither could see from the darkened stairwell.

"I am sorry Toki," Reika said, taking his hand in her much softer ones. "It will be as it will be. We can only sing her spirit to the next cycle and ask the Sun King to watch for her."

"Yes," Motoki agreed, swallowing heavily to avoid letting tears flow. He missed his happy, bright, cheerful younger sister, who had made even living on the miserable astroid that was their prison a happy affair with her exuberance. He shook his head. "How are you feeling?" he asked, resting his hand on her forehead. "Any more headaches?"

"No," Reika said, obviously lying. Her skill was reading the past, and the Master often made her spend hours telling him what the young girl in the tower had been thinking or feeling when she touched something. "Don't worry," she added, smiling for him, "I will rest through the day." She bent down and kissed his cheek before hurrying up the rest of the stairs.

Motoki watched her leave before walking down the steps and into the kitchen. Umino looked up from where he was chopping vegetables in the kitchen. They all acted as servants when the Master wasn't using their powers for some purpose, and Umino had became a rather good cook in the months since.

The look of relief on Umino's face when Motoki walked in the room made him cautious. "What is it?" he asked, careful to keep his voice low.

"I've had a vision," Umino blurted out, practically vibrating with excitement. "Help is coming."

"What?" Motoki asked, wondering how anyone had known to look for them. The entire village had been ordered to keep their silence when the Gifted among them were taken. "When? How?"

"Our Prince and his men have joined those searching for the prisoner. Even if the Master forces me to tell him what I've seen, he cannot stop them from taking the girl, and when the Prince sees Terrans enslaved he will become," Umino paused as though searching for the right word. "Complete," he said finally.

"I do not understand your meaning," Motoki admitted.

"The Crystal he carries will wake to it's power. He will become as strong as he can be, until he merges it with the Golden Earth Crystal. The rage and anger he feels at the SoulTraps will wake the sleeping Warrior."

Motoki felt a rush of excitement. He had seen the Prince once, when he had been in the High City. The young man had smiled at Motoki and given Unazuki a sweet roll. Thinking of his sister dampened his spirits. He wished he had been able to find her. What had possessed her to leave the protection of the Master's castle?

"Una's fine," Umino said softly.

"What?"

"Just now I had another vision. She is still within the Castle. She will return to us."

Motoki breathed his first full breath in three days. His sister lived. And soon, they would be rescued. Hope and help. He turned away to hide his face from the younger man, who had his own grief to bear. Tears were private to Motoki, and not to be shared with anyone but Reika, who would one day become his wife.

***Endymion (Age 17)***

"Serenity has found Veronica," Endymion said as he moved up beside Barnabas.

"What?" the young man turned quickly to the Princess, his eyes wide. "Already? How?"

"I can search for people using their powers," Serenity said, obviously frustrated that she hadn't done it sooner. "I didn't realize no one had tried it."

"None of us can do that," a new voice answered.

Serenity turned and let out a squeal of happiness. "Sets! Oh, I'm so glad you're coming with us."

Setsuna let out a light laugh and tapped Serenity's nose with the tip of her finger. "I wish the others could have come. We've wanted to work with the Shitennou for so long. Haruka and Michiru are keeping Rubeus' grandmother busy while we do this." She grinned and bent lower. "I think they have the harder task."

Endymion laughed at the joke, unable to stop watching as Setsuna hugged his favorite warrior Princess. Serenity looked more calm than the other girls, and her eyes had taken on the brighter hue of one sending out their senses before battle. She would be safe. Even should the Senshi fail, and his own men, who had positioned themselves to guard the girls unconsciously, he would teleport Serenity to his mother's garden in order to protect her should it come to that.

Kunzite moved away from the platform and bowed as he came close. "Endymion, the gatekeeper says there is no place to teleport to on the surface of the asteroid, barring one place, which is alarmed carefully."

"We can use Sailor Teleport," Setsuna said softly. "It can only be done with the Princess until the others truly gain their skills, but we can teleport in a much different way using a protective bubble the Silver Crystal supplies."

"I didn't know that," Kunzite said, his eyes caught on the orange flowers woven into Minako's hair. "I've never heard of it before."

Serenity coughed, blushing slightly. "It's kept a secret, usually. It is one of the few things we don't tell all of our allies. But you are more than allies. You are friends. I'm only just able to do it. My mother's Crystal will send help to my Crystal. We do need to go outside however."

"Remember Mars," Ami said, her voice low, "don't use too much power. Last time we broke the courtyard and the fountain. No mistakes."

"You'll have to stay next to me," Rei answered. "Keep me calm."

"Why do you let him rile you so?" Makoto asked, moving closer.

Endymion hid a smile, looking down at Serenity, who was also grinning. Somehow Jadeite always seemed to irritate Rei, and while he wasn't exactly trying, he seemed to enjoy making her lose her temper.

"It has begun," Serenity whispered, pulling him closer. "I tell you, there is more to this than is seen. I've Dreamed."

"You have, my love?" Endymion asked. "What did you dream?"

"A vast battle. Many people dead and dying, their dreams turned against them. And then, hope. I watched a young woman wearing my face defeat some creature made of mist and shadow. And surrounding her were our friends. Endymion, I think we've lived, and loved, before."

"Loved?" Endymion asked, smiling down at the Princess who had stolen his heart. "Do you finally love me then, little Princess?"

Letting out a soft cry, Serenity took up both his hands and looked him in the eye. "Do you not know it?" she asked. "Can you not feel it? I love you more with every breath I take."

Endymion smiled. "Do not speak of it yet," he whispered. "When this is over, I will take you around my mother's garden, and we will speak of happier things."

"So be it," Serenity said, smiling up at him, her silver-hued eyes wide and beautiful in her pale face. "Now let us go and rescue Veronica."

***High Queen Serenity***

The Queen was not accustomed to sending her daughter into danger. It had taken every bit of strength she'd possessed to stop from calling the guards and having them hide her until the mission was complete. It was a horrid thing, knowing your child would be entering a dangerous situation and there was nothing you could do to protect them. Unfortunately, the princess had a destiny that could not be postponed, and that meant events would continue to outpace the queen.

They hadn't been gone long. Mere hours at most. Still, as the Queen walked the long hallway to her own chambers, she wished she had gone with the children. They were so young still, and she wanted to fight all the battles for them, though that couldn't be.

"They'll be alright," Athena said softly, turning to pull Serenity into her arms. After a tight hug she pulled back and met Serenity's eyes. "We know they will survive this battle."

"Yes," Serenity agreed, "but a mother's heart was built for worry. I can handle it."

"I will come to you the moment there is word," Athena answered, staying in the hallway as the queen entered her bedchamber. She nodded and closed the door, blocking the friendly face from her vision.

Thankfully, Serenity, like all other queens before her, had an affinity not only for her own Crystal, but for all the Crystals connected to it. She could feel her daughter, filled with anxiety, but also confidence. For all she knew the girl was practically rescued.

"Just take a nap," she ordered herself. "Worrying won't bring them back any faster." Still, she was thankful Tsukiyomi was yet too young for the mission. Still, even he would soon be required to enter battle. The witch queen was waking in her prison and Serenity feared the peace they had fought so hard for would soon end.

A portrait of Pontus clutched to her chest, Serenity threw herself down on her mattress and closed her eyes, determined to sleep so the time would pass more quickly.

Serenity tossed and turned on the bed, pain wracking her body as she labored to bring forth new life. Her heart beat fast and her entire being ached. Something felt wrong. Her daughter had come with ease, and was already crying in the arms of the nurse that had been chosen to care for the royal children, but the son was a struggle. She didn't understand. Panic and fear welled up inside her, and Serenity screamed as a great pain washed through her body.

"Help him!" It was all she could think of, all she could focus on. She lifted her head to look at Pontus, who lay behind her on the bed, holding her upper body as she struggled. He was feeding her energy through the Crystal, but it wasn't enough. If something didn't happen soon, the baby would die, and very likely Serenity with him.

"I'm going to try something," Athena said, looking into her eyes. "Hold very still." Serenity did as she said and remained as still as possible while Athena reached inside her and also pressed on her belly. "He's breech," she said softly. "Someone send for Polaris."

"Is he alright?" Serenity asked, looking up at her husband as tears filled her eyes.

Pontus reached a hand to her belly and pressed lightly, his power, the ocean, helping him to reach their unborn child. "His heart beats too slow. We must hurry."

Time passed. Serenity couldn't be sure how much, before Solaris was suddenly on the bed, kneeling beside her, hand on her belly. He began to glow, colors of red, orange, yellow, and gold seemed to swirl around him. She felt an easing of the pain and a movement inside her as the baby turned.

"Push now," Solaris ordered.

Serenity bore down, staring into Pontus' eyes for strength and courage, and moments later her son slipped into the world. He didn't cry or scream, merely cooed at the midwife who cleared out his mouth. Soon he was clean and he and his sister both were laid on her breast. "So beautiful," she whispered, looking at her silver-haired twins. "Serenity," she said, gazing at the princess, who was nuzzling at her breast, searching for her first meal. Of course, her daughter didn't seem to fit the name, but it was the name of all the Moon Queens, and all the firstborn females bore it.

She looked to her other child. He was so peaceful. His eyes were open and he stared into her own, looking so calm and serene that she had to smile. "What do you think?" she asked Pontus.

"He's so calm," he whispered. "Much like me. Too much. He will have a temper," he warned. "But his Crystal..." his voice trailed off as he ran a hand gently over the baby's silver hair. "It resonates with mine. That can't be. Shouldn't he have the Blue Moon Crystal?"

"Not necessarily," Solaris answered for her, adjusting the infant so that he was closer to her nipple. She watched as he opened his mouth and took it in, still staring up at her. "Several times in the past boys or girls have been born between the Princess and the Keeper of Chronicles. There is usually a need. Perhaps it is because your father so recently passed Pontus. Your Crystal needs an heir."

Pontus smiled down at the little one. "He looks so tranquil. But I can already see there will be storms with this one," he added.

Serenity, who was still covered with sweat, blood, and birthing fluid, shifted uncomfortably. She wanted to be up and changed quickly, but Solaris had not yet healed her. Then she remembered. She had yet to pass the placenta. She sighed, frustrated. There were still spasms in her belly, but not as strong, nor nearly as painful.

Pontus decided to distract her. "What name would you give our son?" he asked. She looked up at him, staring into the tranquil eyes that so matched the ones of their new born son, and smiled.

"Tranquility," she announced.

Queen Serenity bolted upright in bed, automatically reaching for her husband, who had always been her comfort when Dreams hit her. The empty half of the bed was a mocking reminder of his loss and for a moment her heart screamed in pain.

Slowly, as she became more aware, Queen Serenity began to think about the dream, and to remember that it was one she'd had before, several times. Unsure where the dream was coming from, or why it felt so intense now, when it had not for so many years, she gathered her robe and climbed down from the raised bed, her bare feet chilled by the cold marble floor.

"Tranquility," she whispered aloud. She had no son by that name. Surely she would have remembered him. Still, it had felt so clear, and so real, that Serenity felt pulled to learn more. She was a Dreamer, after all, destined Queen of the Moon Kingdom, ruler of the Silver Millennium. The Silver Crystal would go to no other.

That thought sparked something inside her. If the Silver Crystal could go to none but it's own heir, what would happen to the Crystal her husband had carried without an heir? His father had died, and Pontus had no brothers. His only sister had already passed into the next life, taking with her the unborn child she had carried. Her husband had died instantly, of the shock.

So who was left that could carry the Crystal of the Sea? No one. The Sea of the Moon was without protection. Without Tranquility. The image of the tiny boy staring up at her with eyes so calm and peaceful would not disappear.

"What is wrong with me?" she muttered.

An echo of something came from within Serenity. An echo of her husband's crystal, which had melded with her own. Until an heir was found for it, the Crystal would remain within hers. While that added strength to the Crystal, it could not remain connected forever. And what of the need of protection? What would happen to the Sea of Tranquility without it's guardian? Would the waters vanish or become diseased?

Something had to happen, and soon. She would have to find another heir, one that the Crystal connected with. A search would have to be made. Sometimes a person passed without an heir. Usually later in their life, the person would search the solar system for the next person to carry the Crystal. It was a major disruption to go without a protector. The search would have to begin, and soon.

"Tranquility," she whispered again, those familiar eyes haunting her mind. "Where are you?" Again Serenity felt an echo from within her own Crystal. An echo that stretched out away from the moon, pulling towards the next Guardian. "This is madness," Serenity muttered. She needed to speak to someone about what she was considering. Anou would help her, but what if word got out? Her subjects would fear she had gone mad.

***Tranquility (Age 14)***

"Push harder!"

The order came from the Shadow Man. Tranquility had never known another name for the man who had raised him. Even as an infant he had been terrified of the man, whose face he had never seen, though he had spent every moment of the last fourteen years in his presence.

"I'm pushing," Tranquility said softly, brushing his over-long blonde hair out of his face as he focused on the water below. The Shadow Man wanted him to move the water. All of it. An entire lake.

"Not hard enough!" The Shadow Man screamed, spittle flying out of his shadowed hood as he yelled. Ranting and raging, he paced in front of Tranquility. "Always you fail me!" he accused, slapping out with his hand and knocking Tranquility off his feet. He fell, hard, onto the sandy surface of the planet. "I need that stone," he growled, then hurried back toward the small shack they had been sharing.

Watching as Shadow Man stormed away, Tranquility picked himself up. He stared up into the heavens. Not far away, only a few thousand miles really, was the bright, silver, shimmering moon. Home. Shadow Man had never lied about stealing Tranquility and erasing all memory of him from his family. He delighted in telling the boy about his family, and all the goings on in the palace.

Tranquility only wanted one thing and then he would happily die. All his life he had dreamed of a beautiful face, wreathed by silver-white hair, with silver-blue eyes that stared down at his face and whispered his name. He knew it was a memory of his mother, though how he remembered her, he couldn't explain. Tranquility would have given nearly anything, including his own life, to be held once more in the arms of his mother. He could feel her, sometimes, and hear her voice, whispering his name.

"Mother," he whispered, then, hanging his head, he hurried inside the shack as well.

***Beryl (Age 14)***

The clang of metal woke Beryl from her fitful sleep. She listened carefully as slippered feet traveled closer and closer to her cell. Then there was the sound of metal as a key turned in the lock. Beryl groaned as she sat up and turned toward the bars. She was shocked to see her mother stepping into her cell.

"It is time," she said softly, "to tell you the plan your father has created." She let out a little sigh. "I pray it does not lead to your death.
