Hello Internet
Meet my newest OC Nyla Dawn Evergreen
This is the Bait
FINALLY, we're here
I just saw the movie A Whisker Away and...I loved it and cried
SO this first half is inspired by some of the scenes
I've decided to use the lines to indicate that a certain amount of time has passed (and I'm lazy)
CALLUM FROM DRAGON PRINCE IS THE REINCARNATION OF SOKKA FROM AVATAR I SWEAR
Now enjoy
I woke up and turned the AC off. It was the first day of winter and I didn't want to have a runny nose. I got up from my bed and went over to lock my bedroom door. Then I went to the "plant" section of my room.
You see I have this...power where I can control plants. I found this out when I was six and I was playing outside of the barn. I tripped and was about to fall face-first into the ground but I didn't. Instead, the grass rose from the ground and caught my fall. I spent the next hour trying out this new trick.
Now I'm 14 and I've almost perfected this new ability. But I can't show my parents or my brothers because they would freak out and call me a witch. I walked over to the sickest one of my plants and healed it. It bloomed into a beautiful rose and it made me feel happy.
I put my uniform on and went to the bathroom to do my hair. At school, girls were only allowed to have 5 types of hairstyles: down, ponytail, pigtails, braids, and half up half down.
I ran down the stairs and saw my mom cooking breakfast, my dad reading the newspaper, and my brothers fighting each other with their food. I sat down across from the and my mom handed me a plate.
"Good morning Ny," She said as she went back to the kitchen "Morning," I said, stuffing my face so I could get to school on time. "Charley, Chase stop playing with your food," she said.
The boys stopped and looked at me "Hi Ny-Ny." Charley said, playing with one of my pigtails. I was always annoyed at his nickname for me. "Stop calling me that," I said He pouted and asked, "Why not?" I was going to throw my pancake at him but before I could our alarm sounded which meant it was time for all of us to go to school.
"Ok," my mom said as we got up from the table "Charley walk your sister to the bus stop. Chase get to class and please don't be rude to your teacher again." Chase groaned and Charley pushed us out the door "By mom" I said. She blew me a kiss as we went out the door.
"Time for you to go," Charley said as Chase grabbed his bag from our nook. I did the same as Chase left. "Come on, let's get you to class," Charley said as we went to the bus stop.
When we got there Charley ran to his high school and I met my friend Flora there. "Hello Flora," I said, dramatically. She looked at me and a small smile escaped her lips "Hello Nyla" she said. I sat down next to her on the bench and said "Today is the day. I know it"
She rolled her eyes at me and said "You still think that one of the boys you flirt with daily will notice you" I giggled and said "Of course" Just then our other friend Oliver came over on his crutches.
"Hey guys," He said, as he sat down on the bench with us. "Hi, Oliver" Flora said as I kept talking. Flora interrupted me by putting her hand over my mouth. "Shush," she said "Annoy me when we get to class" I nodded and she took her hand off my mouth.
"Now Oliver," she said, turning her focus to him. "Yeah?" he said looking a little taken back from her change of tone. "How come you run faster with your crutches when something you like is happening and not when something normal is happening?"
He started sweating but lucky for him the bus came. I jumped off the bus and said "C'mon guys" Flora gave Oliver a suspicious look and said "You're lucky" before getting on the bus. Oliver sighed and mouthed 'Thanks' to me. I smiled and went onto the bus.
On the bus, the not-so-fun part of school began. The kids in the seat in front of us turned around and looked at us. I hated these girls. They teased and picked on me ever since elementary school.
They're known as the 'Popular girls' because they scare everyone and they're so awesome at everything. They are sisters so they have each other's backs but not in a way that's good for me.
"Well isn't it the ugliest girl in the world," Kennedy said. I looked down at the floor so no one could see the tears forming in my eyes. At least I had Flora to help me with them. "How is she uglier if you guys are wearing the same thing" I looked up and saw Tiffany roll her eyes and the two girls sat back down.
"Thanks," I said, fidgeting with one of my pigtails. "I know what'll cheer you up," Oliver said, reaching into his pocket. He pulled three bags of bite-size Poptarts. I laughed as we each took a bag and sneakily ate one on our way to school.
I had homeroom with Flora because Oliver had a different one. Everyone around us was talking about the talent show that was going to happen in three months. "If today isn't my day then it will happen during the talent show," I told Flora. She sighed and said, "You're that desperate aren't you?" I nodded as Mrs. Kennelly walked in.
"Good morning class," Mrs. Kennelly said "I'm going to take attendance and then we'll review for your vocab quiz" I covered my face in my hands and sighed. I was diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD so I already know that I'm going to fail this.
I uncovered my face as she went through the names and looked out the window. They were working on adding a second floor to our middle school but they needed supplies so they were cutting down the trees.
I hated seeing an innocent tree die just for the second floor to an already crappy school. I was so lost in thought that Flora had to tap my shoulder so I could snap back to reality."Oh um here," I said as a wave of embarrassment fell over me. Everyone in the class laughed as Mrs. Kennelly continued the attendance.
Once she was done, as promised, we were studying for our vocab quiz and luck wasn't on my side because she called on me. Everyone at school knows I have dyslexia but she still calls on me despite that.
I squinted and looked at the board. The words were moving around the board making my mind dizzy. "Um is it...extraordinary diaper?" Everyone laughed out loud and Mrs. Kennelly sighed "No," she said "Mr. Young please answer"
Mrs. Kennelly continued but I was getting bored. I grabbed a piece of paper and wrote something on it. I then passed it to Flora who took it and wrote in it as well. This kept going until Tiffany caught us doing it and said "Mrs. Kennelly, Flora is passing notes"
Mrs. Kennelly extended her hand and Flora gave her the note. "Since you were so desperate to give this to Miss Evergreen, I'll read it so she can hear it." I looked over at Flora and she winked at me.
"Well I can tell her right now," Flora said. Mrs. Kennelly nodded and she continued in a louder voice. "In the note I said: Mrs. Kennelly is so annoying. Why would she call on you when she knew you had dyslexia"
Some kids laughed but that wasn't the best part. She was talking louder right when the assistant was walking through the hallway. Mrs. Faith walked in and asked "Is that true" I happily watched the color drain from Mrs. Kennelly's face. As the two of them were talking I gave Flora a small yet meaningful high-five.
Besides math, P.E. is the most unwanted school subject at my school. I don't know if it's because of the teacher or the exercises. Today before lunch, we had to run laps around the gym but Oliver had it easy because of his crutches.
"What you did today in homeroom was awesome," I said between breaths. "Thanks" Flora replied completely out of breath. Our gym teacher Mr. Loy blew his whistle and we all collapsed tired and out of breath.
"Y'all did terribly," he said chewing his gum "But it's lunch so I can't yell at y'all anymore. Get outta here" Everyone obeyed without hesitation and we were on our way to the cafeteria.
Oliver caught up with us in the hallway which brought Flora's suspicion back. "How did you run that fast?" she asked him. "Uh practice?" he said it more like a question. I saved him again by saying "Look we're at the cafeteria wow"
The cafeteria is the size of the whole barn. The place is divided into three sections because we share lunch with the 9th and 10th graders but everyone gets food from the same place.
I looked up to see the menu as we walked. The three options were fish sticks, meatloaf, and chicken nuggets. They all looked disgusting especially to me, a vegetarian. I just got a salad and gave half of it to Oliver because he forgot to bring money today.
At our table, we talked about the homeroom incident and other stupid things but then Flora had early dismissal. I started to feel scared and unsafe. She usually helped me with the kids like Kennedy but she was gone so I had to avoid them at all costs.
But that wasn't the only reason I was scared. Even though I flirt with almost every boy in middle school, I've always had a crush on Oliver. I don't know why but something about him was just so cute.
Since Flora left, Tiffany found this as a perfect opportunity to annoy me. In the corner of my eye, I saw her walking towards our table. I looked at the floor to avoid eye contact but then I heard a thud and the cafeteria went silent.
I looked up and saw that Oliver ever so slightly moved his crutches in the way and Tiffany trip and fell face forward onto the ground near us. She stood up awkwardly obviously embarrassed and gave Oliver a death stare.
In a fit, she grabbed his crutches and snapped them in half against our table. One of the parts flew at me and knocked me on the head. I felt dizzy and wanted to cry but I didn't. The lunch monitors came and dragged Tiffany away from us while almost all the kids had their phones out recording this.
The next two classes passed like seconds and we got somewhat special treatment from the teachers because I got hit in the head with a crutch piece and Oliver needed his crutches to walk.
In my last class of the day, we learned about Greek Mythology and I, for some reason, excelled at it. We were learning about the Labyrinth and I felt like I heard the story before. Like it actually happened. I pushed these thoughts out of my head and tried to pay attention.
As the teacher talked I started to hear this annoying ringing sound which was the painful sound of the dismissal bell. A tornado of kids ran out of the classroom and into the hallway dragging Oliver and me with them.
I walked with Oliver back to the bus station and stopped. "Why don't we walk the longer way today?"
ANNNNNNNND that's it for this chapter
