"Are you sure it was The Kraken and not just a kraken?" Wanda questions.
"Yes. Remember, I've seen it myself. You need to stop doubting me, Wanda."
"Sorry. What are we going to do?"
"It can't be killed so we'll have to put it back to sleep."
The word sleep hints at something in Wanda's mind. When she woke up from the nightmare where the world was destroyed, she heard a splash. That must have been when it woke up. What else would create a splash so loud that she would hear it when she was in that state? Yes—it must have been The Kraken. But what could have woken it up? Then she realizes—she is the most powerful being around here. She had woken this monster up.
Wanda pales and starts breathing faster. She thought all the repercussions of her actions were over, but apparently not. She can't even sleep without something bad happening. She can't do it. She can't put it to sleep. It will destroy the cottage, the island. It willdestroy Wanda's new life when she is finally happy.
Wanda wraps her arms around herself and squeezes, carefully restraining the magic trying to break free from herself.
"...and we'll put The Kraken to sleep together." Agatha was talking to Wanda while she was lost in her thoughts.
"Agatha, I can't." Wanda gasps for air. Tears streamed out of her eyes. "I think—I think I woke… it up when I was dreaming. The worst dream. You know."
"Wanda, it wasn't your fault. You can't believe it was your fault. You were literally sleeping." Agatha reassures Wanda. "Just because this happened doesn't mean that you have lost all the progress you have made. You are powerful and strong and you can control your magic. You can do this, Wanda."
Wanda nods, but she bites her lip and still looks unsure.
"Look—it's almost at the cottage. We have to go." Agatha grabs Wanda's hand and the two witches fly over the lake, purple and red magic entwining behind them.
"Were you listening to the plan?"
"What?" The wind roars in Wanda's ears and she can't hear a word Agatha says.
"Were you listening to the plan?"
"There was a plan?"
"Oh, Wanda." Agatha shakes her head. "Okay, let me try something." Agatha creates a tunnel of purple magic from her mouth to Wanda's ear. "Can you hear me?"
"Loud and clear."
"I'm going to distract it first. I'll lead it away from the cottage. Then you have to prepare yourself to help me. I can't put it to sleep on my own, but we can do it together."
Wanda creates her own tunnel to Agatha's ear.
"But your own coven could hardly put it to sleep. How are just the two of us going to do it?"
Agatha puts her hand on her chest and raises an eyebrow. "Wanda! Personally, I have grown much more powerful since then. And you're the Scarlet Witch. You underestimate yourself."
"Oh, right."
They dissolved the connections between their mouths and ears. It is time to fight The Kraken.
Wanda searches for a place she can get a good vantage point to battle The Kraken, but there isn't any kind of place high up and the only close ground is near her cottage. She will have to fight from the air. Wanda flies further above the lake and crosses her legs and closes her eyes. She takes deep breaths, preparing herself for the magic she is about to use.
Meanwhile, Agatha is working on distracting The Kraken from destroying the cottage. The beast must have sensed that the runes in the cottage contain the same type of magic that had woken it, and it is mad.
The Kraken is at the shore of the lake, slamming its tentacles into the ground as it tries to drag itself closer to the cottage.
"Hey! Stop that!" Agatha used magic to amplify her voice. The Kraken turned around and swung its great tentacle at Agatha. She flew up, easily dodging the clumsy swing.
"Come and get me!" Agatha waved her hands in the air. The Kraken roared and threw its body back into the deeper part of the lake. A large wave washed up on the shore but Agatha couldn't see how far it reached. The Kraken started spinning in circles, getting higher with each spin. The waters of the lake are draining away from the beaches to join The Kraken in whatever it is doing.
The Kraken has only gotten the top half of its head out of the water when Agatha shoots a stream of purple magic into its eye. The Kraken roars even louder and lets go of all its water, which washes up on the shores in incredibly large waves. Now The Kraken is even more enraged and the magic hasn't even blinded its eye. Two giant arms slowly lift out of the water, dripping water from all of the suckers. But Agatha is looking to see where Wanda is. The magic she used so far has tired her out and she needs Wanda's help now.
A tentacle smacks her back and she falls out of the air.
"Wanda!" Agatha shrieks.
Wanda quickly opens her eyes and she sees Agatha splash into the lake.
"No!" Wanda's eyes widen in shock and she drops a few feet in the air before regaining her position. Now she doesn't even have Agatha to help her. Wanda narrows her eyes. She will not allow this filthy creature to kill Agatha or destroy her cottage. The Kraken doesn't know who it is messing with.
Wanda stands up in the air. Every part of her is glowing red.
"What did you just do?" Wanda's eyes glow even brighter and she wants to hit The Kraken with the most powerful stream of magic she had ever used.
No. Wanda can't do that. She has to deal with problems in the proper order. First, she has to get Agatha out of the lake or she will drown. Working as quickly as she can, Wanda uses her magic to feel where Agatha is. There is something, is it Agatha? No, just a tentacle. But Agatha's limp body is in the tentacle, feebly trying to push it away from herself. Wanda uses her magic to uncurl the tentacle and, with a flick of her hand, Agatha flies back to shore.
"Stay." Wanda calls across the lake. She isn't sure if Agatha can hear her, but if she can, Wanda wants Agatha to stay as far away from here as possible.
Wanda turns her attention back to The Kraken, who is angrily splashing behind her. Each tentacle splashes in the air one at a time, like it is preparing itself for a fight. Wanda flies closer. At a close range, it is easier to use more powerful magic.
Wanda feels like her senses are turned up to the max. She senses a tentacle coming from the left and shoots up in the air, narrowly avoiding another tentacle approaching from behind, trying to give her the same fate as Agatha. At least three tentacles are swinging in the air now. Wanda darts to the left as she sees a tentacle coming from the right. She pauses for a minute, thinking The Kraken has stopped for a moment.
A drop of water runs down Wanda's spine. She slowly looks up and sees a giant sucker speeding toward her face. Wanda flies to the right. She can hear her heart hammering in her chest, but she can't pay attention to that now. She ducks as she sees the hula hoop sized suckers heading toward her again. Another tentacle is coming, this time for the back of her knees. Wanda speeds forward and solidifies the magic before jumping as it flies beneath her.
Wanda doesn't see any more tentacles. Maybe The Kraken is going to try a different method to cause damage. Wanda breathes a sigh of relief. Before she finishes sighing, her eyes widen as she senses large objects approaching from both sides of her vision. She waits until the objects are visible at the edges of her vision, then flies upward as fast as she can.
She tilts her head down, then smiles as she sees the tentacles smash into each other and The Kraken grunts in pain. The tentacles smashed so hard into each other that one split open, leaving globs of its flesh floating on the water. The Kraken slides back under the waves. Now that The Kraken is stunned, Wanda will have to put it to sleep before it continues its destruction.
Wanda narrows her eyes in concentration. She puts her hands in front of her and blasts The Kraken with her glowing red magic. It falls deeper in the water. Its tentacles are splashing and it is stirring up huge waves, trying to stay afloat.
Wanda is furious with The Kraken. She pushes her magic into The Kraken with a grunt. Then she hears a faint voice coming from the water's edge.
"Sleep! Concentrate on putting it to sleep!" It's Agatha! She's alive. Wanda feels relief rushing upon her like a huge wave and the magic streaming out of her hands diminishes. The Kraken starts moving again and Agatha is knocked backwards from a huge wave crashing into her.
Wanda needs to focus. She concentrates on sending sleep to The Kraken. Sleep. You want to sleep. You will sleep. You are so very tired. SLEEP. It seems to be working. The Kraken is spinning again, but it spins slower and slower with each rotation.
The Kraken starts sinking in the water and tries using two tentacles to hold its eyelids open. Another stream of magic—purple, this time—hits the monster. Unable to withstand this added pressure, it lets out a loud snore before sinking into the depths of the lake.
Wanda turns in the air.
"I was handling it fine on my own."
Agatha smiles at her. "I know. I just wanted to help."
"Shall we head back to shore?"
"I'm going to pretend I didn't just hear you say the word 'shall'. I was thinking we could send The Kraken somewhere else. We don't need this big creature in our lake."
"Our lake? Does that mean you're—" Agatha cuts off Wanda with a wave of her hand.
"Come here, you."
Wanda tilts her head. What could Agatha want? She floats closer to Agatha. Once Wanda is within arms' reach, Agatha pulls Wanda in and presses her lips onto Wanda's lips.
Wanda's mind goes completely blank. What is happening? Agatha… is kissing… her? And she… she likes it? A tingle runs down Wanda's spine and she kisses Agatha back. The two women are wrapped up in their embrace, passionately kissing as red and purple magic floats around them.
Finally, Wanda breaks the embrace, and they gasp for air. Wanda smiles, her cheeks glowing pink.
"Do I want to stay? What kind of question is that? I never want to leave you again, Wanda." Agatha leans down and kisses Wanda again. This time, Wanda kisses back right away. It feels amazing to kiss Agatha. Wanda realizes what she hasn't been able to figure out before—she doesn't want Agatha to leave because she is in love with her. It feels so right to be here, kissing Agatha. Like this is what Wanda is meant to do.
But once again, the witches need air and the kiss has to be broken.
Agatha starts laughing, which makes Wanda laugh too.
"What is it, Agatha?"
"I just realized." Agatha gulps for air mid laugh. "We are kissing in the air, in the middle of sending The Kraken of all things away from our lake. We are one strange couple."
Wanda smiles, fondly remembering when she told Vision the exact same thing.
"Well, that's what comes with magic!" She scrunches up her nose in a smile. "Now let's get back to work. Will a regular portal do, if it's large enough, do you think?"
"That should work. Are you ready?"
"Yes."
Agatha pulls Wanda in front of her and they make a circle with their hands, Wanda's hands in front of Agatha's.
They pull their arms in, then Wanda counts down to cast the spell.
"3… 2… 1… go!"
They push their arms forward and a magenta portal shoots from their hands. Together, they push the portal down to the bottom of the lake until the lake waters decrease. The glowing portal can still be seen, and they clench their hands to destroy it. The Kraken is gone!
Wanda turns around to see Agatha's beaming face. All she could think to do is kiss Agatha's luscious lips, and that's exactly what she did. They kiss each other for what feels like hours, spinning in slow circles over the lake. Agatha's purple magic and Wanda's red magic entwine in a magenta trail of magic behind them, the same colour as the portal was.
Eventually, they get tired from all the magic they had been doing.
"Shall we head back to the cottage now?" Wanda asks Agatha. She is smiling the most she has ever smiled in years.
"You and your 'shall'!" Agatha laughs. "But yes, let's go back now."
Agatha and Wanda fly back to the cottage, holding hands all the while.
When Agatha and Wanda reach the cottage, they are pleasantly surprised to see that it is hardly damaged. The Kraken hasn't been able to touch it at all, there's just some water damage on the side of the house. This is easily fixed by the two witches.
They shoot their purple and red magic at the house and reverse the damage before walking inside.
"So you really mean it? You want to stay?" Wanda looks at Agatha with wide eyes.
"Wanda, what did we just spend the last who-knows-how-long doing?" Agatha shakes her head, a smug smile forming on her face.
Wanda feels heat rising in her cheeks, and she smiles. She glances at Agatha's lips, remembering their previous… activities. She will never forget this day as long as she lives.
After eating a snack—leftover fruit from breakfast—the witches sit down on the couch. Wanda plans to read a book—she started reading a book called Twilight. Agatha has been recommending it to her for a while, but she only started a few days ago.
Before Wanda starts reading, she remembers that Agatha had planned to ask her something before The Kraken showed up.
"What were you going to ask me?"
"Hmmm? Oh yes, I remember."
"And?" Wanda prompts.
"I was going to ask you if you want to be my girlfriend." Agatha replies. Her eyes dart around the room.
Wanda gasps and looks at Agatha.
"Oh!" She smiles. "I was not expecting that, of all things! I thought you wanted to talk about my nightmare or something."
Wanda pauses, thinking. "And is that why you made such an elaborate breakfast?"
"Yes."
"I can't believe you were going to ask me to be your girlfriend. Not in a bad way, I do want to be your girlfriend." Agatha smiles. This was exactly what she was hoping for. Wanda continues. "It's just that… well… I didn't even realize that I liked you until today."
"Oh Wanda. I could tell you liked me ever since you agreed to having me sleep in your room." Agatha chuckles. "I can't tell you just how happy it makes me to be helping you instead of manipulating you, like in Westview."
"I never realized how much I enjoyed your company until now." Wanda smiles at Agatha and moves closer to her. "I always felt… like something was missing here. Then you came—"
"You mean you brought me here."
"Well—yes. Anyway, you came and I felt like a missing part of me had returned."
Agatha wraps her arms around Wanda and kisses her forehead.
"That is just too sweet."
Wanda, not knowing what to say to that, picks up Twilight and starts reading.
Wanda is brushing her teeth when she hears Agatha calling her from the bedroom.
"What?"
Agatha walks into the hallway in front of the bathroom.
"I was thinking that the events of today call for some redecorating of the bedroom."
Wanda's brows furrow and she looks around the bathroom. What can Agatha mean, redecorating? What's wrong with the bedroom?
"Mmmhmmm?"
"I'm going to make some changes and you tell me what you think, dear." Agatha's footsteps retreat back into the bedroom.
Wanda finishes brushing her teeth and rinses out her mouth before walking into the hallway.
"I'm coming! What have you done, Ags?" The door slams closed as soon as Wanda reaches it.
A muffled voice from inside the room says, "Ags? Who's that?"
"You, silly!" Wanda smiles. She's never called Agatha a nickname before, but she kind of likes it. "Now let me in!"
"Just a second!" The voice calls back. "And… done!"
The door opens up and Wanda walks in. "Everything looks the same." Her eyebrows furrow as she looks more closely. "Hold on—there's only one bed! Agatha!"
Agatha smiles smugly. "Ready for cuddles… or something more?"
"Definitely!"
Wanda and Agatha climb into bed and Wanda turns off the light with a flick of her hand.
"I'd like to spend a while here, if that's okay with you." Wanda confesses to Agatha. "It'll be nice to stay out of Avengers matters for a while, if you know what I mean."
"I could spend forever here with you, Wanda."
"So could I."
Agatha wraps her arm around Wanda's waist, and the two witches fall fast asleep.
