Notes: As you will see, I made a slight modifications. This is a better version just because I decided not to write off the White Fang. I assure you, they will die. Just not now. I know I gave you guys until May 1st to say something because no one said anything, I decided to make the edits anyway. Let me know if you think I should have made any other edits.
Three days later, a stealth plane towards Shade Academy
Weiss sighed heavily for what seemed like the hundredth time. They were on a stealth plane flying towards Shade Academy where they would parachute out, make their way into the school, and assassinate the entire teaching staff. Including the headmaster. All without getting caught.
Ren voiced his concern. "Something wrong, Weiss?"
She sighed again. "Just nerves to be honest. We'll be killing them in their sleep so I doubt we'll have to fight them but I'm more worried about some poor student being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Remember what Kakashi said? No witnesses?"
"Yeah, but let us worry about that. We'll make sure the school is taken down and then hightail it out of here." Said Itachi.
"You guys are way too calm." Said Blake. Itachi gave her a look of confusion. "How can you be so calm when we're about to murder people in cold blood?!"
"Because all of us bar Weiss, no offense, have done this before. Not on this scale, but this isn't our first kill. You were once an assassin for the White Fang. A group that will need to be dealt with and soon if they keep this up." Said Itachi.
Blake didn't say anything. The silence was broken when the pilot gave them the 60-second heads up and 60 seconds later, they jumped out of the plane and landed 100 miles away from Shade Academy in the dead of night. Perfect.
30 minutes later
Getting in for the four assassins was child's play. Even though it was wartime, the security was a joke. And so was getting to the professors and headmaster. They all died a painless death when they were stabbed in the heart. Unfortunately, they were only able to rig the headmaster but it was with a fortress grade explosive tag, courtesy of Itachi. Thankfully, they were way out of range when the tag went off. The team of assassins didn't even hear anything.
Another three days later and they were back at Beacon Academy. Aka, HQ. Ren and Wiess appeared to be handling things well but Blake was...less than fine. She had bags under her eyes and looked like she'd been crying. The team entered the kage office and everyone but Blake saluted.
"Hm. Scouts are reporting mass casualties at Shade Academy and 50% of the facility is destroyed so I know for a fact the mission went well, only one of you has guilt in your eyes, and all but one of you is well-rested. That being said congratulations. You have completed for first S-rank Assassination mission. We have a really good guess about what happened but I want a written report from all of you on our desks before tomorrow night. Understand?" Said Onoki.
"Yes, Lord Tsuchikage." Said everyone but Blake.
"Everyone but Blake, please leave us." Said Kakashi. He saw her panicked look as the rest of the team left. "Don't worry, you're not in trouble. You did what you were told but we're taking you off the team and sending you to counseling." Blake looked down in shame. "Do not be ashamed. Assassination is something only 1 in 1,000 shinobi specialize in and even less can handle it for longer than six months."
Blake still couldn't bring herself to look them in the eyes.
Mei sighed. "Please go back to your former dorm here and wait for me." She gave a warning look to the others. "We'll talk later." Blake nodded and left.
"I know exactly what you're doing and", Kakashi took on an untruthful tone. "The rest of us suddenly became absent-minded and didn't hear a word you said. Right?" They nodded. "Good. Now onto business."
"Yes, I agree. Who should be our next target?" Asked Gaara.
"Vacuo was just neutered so it's only a matter of time before they run out of people or just surrender outright. I suppose we can have them go after the squad leaders and commanders but that might be a little advanced for them." Said Onoki.
"I think we should let Itachi be the judge of that. Our spies are giving us targets left and right and they can't be everywhere at once. And I refuse to take people like Naruto and Sasuke off the frontlines." Said Kakashi.
"I have an idea but I need you to hear me out." Said the Mizukage.
"Go on." Said Ay.
"I have a chunin named Saito Fujita who excels at stealth and assassination. He just needs experience and better poisons. The only problem is, he's not strong enough to pull himself out if things get even remotely sticky." Offered Mei.
"That is quite the offer but I think we must decline for now. Once he's at least mid chunin in strength, we'll take him. Deal?" Said Onoki.
"Yes." Replied Mei.
"One more thing. What has Ozpin been doing?" Asked Kakashi.
"Keeping the younger ones in line at Vacuo. Supposedly, the first years are refusing to kill and while it's gotten us valuable information at times, it's also gotten people killed." Said Ay.
"Anyone who stands out?" Asked Gaara.
"RBY and JPN. They always decimate their opponents but can't deliver the final blow and it's cost them multiple times." Replied Ay.
"Okayyyy. We can either force them to kill by threatening to dishonorably discharge them or we can use genjutsu and see what happens." Said Kakashi.
"I'll send Ao to observe them after threatening them and if they still don't kill…" Mei shrugged. "Genjutsu it is, then."
"Agreed. How's our war going?" Asked Gaara.
"Surprisingly well. Our gaseous Nitrogen Cyanide bombs and supersonic planes are decimating them, Grimm included. We only have one major airbase before we get to the capitol." Answered Kakashi.
"Perfect. Suppose we totally dominate them and smash their defenses in both places. What do we do with the people? They won't be POWs but at the same time, we can't let them roam free." Said Ay.
"You make a good point, Lord Raikage but we can't just throw them in some backwater country where they'll be oppressed instead of us." Said Kakashi. He started to think for a moment. "What about Sky Country?"
The Raikage narrowed his eyes. "Yes, they have been rather pushy lately. Another military campaign would be annoying but not unreasonably difficult."
"Care to explain why on earth a minor nation would play chicken with a major military power?" Asked Mei.
"Because of the 1st war. After it ended and the villages were broke, Sky Country, and thus Hidden Sky tried to take advantage of the nearest village. But we still had enough fight in us to slaughter them. We invaded Hidden Sky and thought we stopped them from being anything more than a merchant country but I guess we were wrong." Answered. Ay.
"But $100 says you did permanent damage. As shinobi, we shouldn't underestimate people but there's no way they can go toe-to-toe with Hidden Cloud." Said Kakashi.
"I agree. But it's getting late and we all need our sleep." Said Gaara.
The kages left without a word.
Three weeks later
The last three weeks were eventful, to say the least. Weiss, Ren, and Itachi were constantly on the move and even made a name for themselves. Wiess: The Frozen Queen, Ren: Kakashi's Grim Reaper, and Itachi: Ozpin's Grim Reaper.
They all had some sort of calling card. For Weiss, the target was stabbed in the heart and then frozen in a block of ice. Everyone knew Kakashi's Grim Reaper killed someone when the building exploded soon after and the bodies were later identified. They say Itachi's was the worst. His victims always had a look of utter terror on their faces and not a scratch on them. When the doctors did a brain scan, they found that the target's brain was liquified.
Because of their hard work, Vacuo was down to its last town as their capital had fallen long ago but they refused to surrender. Team Butcher, as they were called by their fellow students, got reassigned to the frontlines to finish off the last town in Vacuo. Their goal was to take advantage of the chaos and kill as many as they could. It wouldn't matter if they got caught because stealth is no longer an option once ninjutsu starts flying.
It was less of a base and more of a camp. There were a lot of tents and the walls were made of wood instead of stone or metal. But it was still well defended and there were a lot of traps, most of them lethal. Everyone hated this war. The students, especially. They were fine at the moment but they didn't know what to do with themselves after the fact and when the smoke cleared. Coping mechanisms vary, some healthier than others, but everyone had at least one.
Team Butcher slumped down on their table in the mess hall. The tables could sit 10 on each bench but only the shinobi were willing to sit with them. Even their former teammates avoided them. That being said, they made a lot of friends among the shinobi. They respected Team Butcher for their bravery and skill. Granted, they didn't like how the kages had their assassins but that's neither here nor there.
An ANBU in a Turtle mask came to them. "Team Butcher?"
"Yes?" Asked Ren.
"The kages have requested your presence."
"What for?" Asked Weiss.
Turtle's answer shocked them. "The assassination of 10,000 men."
"I see. We'll be there." Said Itachi as he took them to the briefing room.
A few minutes later
"Ah, yes. Thank you for coming." Said Kakashi in a fake happy voice.
Wiess was already grumpy and Kakashi just sent her over the edge. "Cut the crap, Kakashi. If you wanted to see us that badly, you would have come yourself, not send your favorite errand boy."
"Fair enough, but we'll deal with that later." Said Gaara as he prepared to break the news to them. "Our spies report that approximately 10,000 people will be attacking our location in just under five hours. Normally, that wouldn't be an issue but they're using the townspeople as troops as well. Your next mission is 100% optional. Hell, we don't expect even Itachi to return. We would like you to hear us out and then decide for yourselves." Finished Gaara.
Weiss had a petrified look on her face. All the assassination had gotten to her. She wasn't going insane but anymore and she might kill herself. So against her better judgment, she didn't walk out of the room. "Continue."
The Raikage stood up and looked them in the eyes. "Your mission is to make sure they either don't get here or kill as many as possible before they get here."
Wiess didn't hesitate. "I'm sorry but I'll have to pass. I've gone on many missions like this but I don't think I can handle this one."
"I see. In that case, you will be given to a Yamanaka psychiatrist so he or she can help you cope with the war. Your plane is ready when you are and you will be staying in Hidden Cloud until we can find a place to put you and your people. You're dismissed." Said Kakashi.
"Thank you." Kakashi nodded. "And last but not least, the grim reapers. We all know you'll accept but do you really want to do this alone?"
They didn't say anything at first but Itachi had an idea. "What if you got involved?"
"Care to elaborate?" Said Onoki.
"What if you five meat them while Ren and I perform hit-and-run tactics? And should that not work out, we use chemical weapons. We will win this but it won't be easy." Said Itachi.
"I like where this is going." Kakashi thought for a moment. "However, I think I have a solution to our problem, or at least...a large part of it." The other kages narrowed their eyes. Kakashi with an idea/solution is never a good thing. "Shortly after we got into chemical weaponry, the Hidden Leaf started developing a superweapon. The details are classified but what I will say is that it is a bomb and it weighs 3,000 pounds."
"That's quite the weapon. How many do you have?" Asked Ay.
"Normally I shouldn't answer that but we only made two and one of them was a prototype that we detonated to kill the Wyvern at Mt. Glen. I told you that one of shinobi used a suicide jutsu and while that was technically the truth, it wasn't the whole truth." The other kages didn't say anything but everyone knew they felt annoyed.
"I choose to ignore that. Lie Ren, Itachi Uchiha…your new mission is to fly a fighter escort for our bombers with the Uchiha clan. If we win here, then, Atlas will soon fall. Reports say that they'll be overrun by Grimm within a month."
"We accept." Said Ren.
"We knew you would. I would leave now if I were you." Finished Kakashi.
They nodded and left
I know it's super short and the next one might be short as well but the quality won't change, I promise.
Chapter 9 trailer
"HOW DARE YOU!?"
"BASTARD!"
"MURDERER!"
They immediately began looking through the ash, blood, sand, bodies, and discarded weapons for something...anything…that survived the blast.
"Can anyone hear us?!" They ran helplessly through hell as they looked for survivors. "Hyuuga! Is anyone still alive!?"
They waited for what seemed like an eternity as the Hyuuga used his bloodline to look for any survivors.
"Well...anything?!"
"..."
