Author's Note: I am really torturing the Hardys (sorry)!

CHAPTER EIGHT: Their my dad's enemies

Frank's jaw dropped as thoughts swam through his head. Joe not his brother? That was impossible. Insane. Did Dad get hit on the head or something? His head hurt just thinking about it. He stepped backwards trying to process it.

"I'm so sorry, Frank,"

"You didn't tell Joe?" Frank said passively.

"I knew it would ruin-"

"But you SHOULD have told him anyway! Family doesn't mean it has to be by blood it could just mean a bond." Frank shouted as a tear slid down his face making Fenton cringe. "You HID Joe's own heritage! I can't BELIEVE you!" Frank turned on his heel and stared at the ground, his heart aching.

How could have this happened? I thought we were honest to each other. We're a family. Our family is known for that.

"Keep going, Joe," Caine shoved Joe forward. His clever evil plan was coming together so well. Him and his goons had taken the kid to a business building with a sign that had: Cain Detective Agency. He really was a detective but he had gotten rid of the 'e' so Hardy wouldn't figure it out. The plan worked really well. Hardy was a doofus.

"Am I really Shaun Stevenson?"

"Yes," Caine replied to the boy who looked distraught. "You'll be okay. After I get money from your real father and hurt Fenton as much as I want then I'll let you go." Evan chuckled evilly and nudged the boy who had stopped in his tracks.

"Get in there," He opened a door and shoved him into the office. "I'll be right there. So stay put."

Frank remembered all those times that Joe and him had gotten into trouble and tight situations. They were big magnets for trouble. Mostly Joe was but who cared? Joe was his brother and he didn't care.

FLASHBACK
"What do you want to watch?" Eleven year old Joe asked with sparkling blue eyes. Frank shrugged still reading his science book.

"It's Friday! Please watch something with me?"

"Fine," Frank sat down his book and looked at the movies that Joe held in his hands. "Hmmm... That one."

"YES!" Joe pumped his fist into the air and grinned. Frank shook his head and smiled. "I knew you were gonna choose that one."

"Boys, can I see what you picked to watch?" Mom asked as she walked inside the living room. Joe handed her the movie and pleaded with his ocean colored eyes. "This seems like a good movie."

"Tom and Huck is about two boys making trouble, Laura," Aunt Gertrude said shaking her head in disapproval.

"But it's about friendship, Trudy," Mom insisted. "I'm sure the boys are grown up enough to know the difference between right and wrong."

"Well, okay, I guess."

"I watched it in the theatres, okay? So calm down, Trudy. I'm going to go out with Fenton for awhile so please check on the boys while we're gone." Aunt Gertrude nodded and walked away. Frank and Joe exchanged a grin and high fived.

"This time your sparkling blue eyes didn't work, Joe!" Frank smiled and suddenly he felt a pillow hit his face.

END FLASHBACK

Frank smiled a little at the memory. Hopefully Joe was okay wherever he was...hopefully... He then remembered seeing the words "Cain" in Bayport.

I'm coming for you, Joe.

Joe was miserable as he paced in the office. There was no possible weapons, not even a pencil. There was just a simple wooden desk and a chair. He groaned as he ran his hand through his hair. Why did he believe that man? He couldn't be a Stevenson...could he? Deep down he knew it was true. His instincts were correct. He wasn't a Hardy through blood but he still felt like a Hardy. He leaned against the desk and reached for his phone but remembered it was gone, down the drain just like the rest of his normal life.

The door opened and Caine walked inside with a cruel, villainous grin on his face. Joe wanted so much to knock it off his face. He had let down his guard again. He had been kidnapped how many times? Three, all in the same couple of hours. Caine motioned with his gun to get out of the office. Joe got up from the desk and entered the hallway.

"You know, Joe, I have a very great plan." Joe rolled his eyes, feeling a little like his old self again. Rebellious against his captors.

"Yeah, right."

"I'm serious," The two continued to walk the long hallway until Caine opened a door on the right that had a sign, "CONFERENCE ROOM" on the door. "Go on," Joe swallowed, not knowing what was going on. He stepped inside, it was bright. There was a long table with people in the chairs that surrounded it.

"This is Joseph Hardy, boys," Joe froze as he recognized the men who was sneering at him. He stepped backward but Caine shoved the gun in his back.

"Do you know who these men are, Joseph?" Caine asked as he shut the conference room door.

"...I...uh...um...I..."

Frank slammed on the gas pedal and he nearly passed the Cain building. He slammed on the brakes and swerved to an parking slot. Fortunately no one was on the streets or on the sidewalks. He heaved a sigh and got out of the car. He sprinted to the entrance. The OPEN sign glowed. He grinned, Joe had to be here. He was about to reach for the handle but it opened quickly. A bulky man looked at him, sizing him up.

"Who are you?" The guy grunted.

"I'm looking for Caine,"

"Oh?" Frank nodded. "He's in a business meeting."

"But it's important. He's working for me." Frank bluffed. The guy started to close the door on him but Frank put his foot in the door from closing. "I really HAVE to see him."

"That's impossible, kid,"

"I don't care!" Frank pushed the guy back who quickly got angry. The Hardy pushed again, extremely hard so that the guy hit the wall and slumped over. He began to run down the hallways, looking for his brother.

"Come on, kid, you do, don't you?" Caine asked waving the gun around. Joe blinked, shocked.

"Their my dad's enemies." Joe swallowed a lump down his throat.

"But he's not your dad, kid." One of the men said who's face was not brightened by the fake light. Joe felt lightheaded. Why-how could he know their family secrets? "I'm Nate Caine." Joe had heard of him.

"You're dead." Joe said.

"And I'm going to sell you, kid, to your so-called father's enemies at the highest price." Joe whirled around to look at Caine who was smirking at him.

"Then they'll give the ransom price to your real father. And basically all the enemies of Fenton Hardy have their revenge. Everybody wins. Well, except for Xavier and you." Caine explained. Joe felt like he was going to be sick.

"Your sick, Caine," Joe spat.

"Let's start...hmm...ten thousand?"

Frank opened the first door to a small office. No one. He looked back out the hallway. There was a lot of doors. He sighed and kept looking in each one until he heard voices talking.

"Sold!" Evan Caine said. "Thank you for your business, brother." Brother? Frank suddenly remembered about hearing another Caine...Nate Caine...Oh no... Frank gulped and heard footsteps coming to the door as he eavesdropped. He ran into a cleaning closet, the door slightly open. The conference door opened as men in black suits walked out in a line. Lastly, the two Caines stepped out, motioning for Joe to come out.

"Come on, Joseph, we don't have a day." Nate said sighing, tugging on a rope. Joe staggered forward, rope around his wrists and another rope connecting to it. Frank held back an horrified gasp. "I can't wait to punch him, bro."

"I know, Nate. Revenge is sweet, isn't it?" Frank's relaxed hands folded into fists.

"Uh huh," The insane brothers high fived.
