"Holy shit, Lu. You're a demon."
"I think we all already knew that," Luffy said, walking into the Whitebeard lobby. There was a huge TV screen on the wall that had been playing the sports festival. "But again, the only ones with a match for me were people who won't die from me." He sighed. "Our friends are kind of scared of us now. They looked freaked out."
Luffy looked down sadly. "If they reacted like that to me fighting hand to hand, how would they react to knowing the truth? Nobody will know, I won't say a thing, but still." Sabo wrapped his arm around his shoulders. "I wish… nevermind, it doesn't matter."
He walked to the elevator and said he was going to take a shower and change clothes. He had to put his outfit in the wash, since it was drenched in sweat and had some stains from wiping off Todoroki's blood. He took off his shirt in the mirror to see a new marking on him. A black stripe up his back that barely branched to his shoulders, connecting to his wings.
He had no idea where it came from, since he hadn't had a new mark show up in a very long time. He poked it and sighed. Another weird thing about his demon body. He showered, the wing tarps on so they didn't get soaked and hard to dry out.
After staring at the mark long and hard and finding no other new marks, Luffy dressed and collapsed onto his bed to take a nap. He woke up with a group message with two texts from his friends.
Zoro's picture made Luffy's eyes go wide. Am I the only one? And it was a photo of the black stripe going up his back, just like Luffy's. Sanji typed, Nope, and had a photo of the same mark on his back. Luffy bit his lip.
I got one, too. I'm sorry.
Zoro texted back, The fuck you sorry for? It looks awesome. Maybe I'll grow wings and a tail, too. Be fuckin awesome.
No it wouldn't be!
Just kidding, jeez.
Luffy smiled a watery smile, holding his creature stuffed animal close. He had the best friends, but he was afraid of what their friendship with him would turn into. What if they turned into demons, too? What if he was contagious? It had been almost a decade of them being friends, but very slowly, new marks were coming.
They wore tight shirts as well now. Neither complained, and thought the shirts made them look cool. Do you guys really not care about the weird stuff from being my friend?
He waited for a bit and Sanji replied first. I don't. I'm so happy being your guy's best friend. And I think the changes are pretty cool as long as they cause no damage. I don't hurt anywhere. I feel great. Not sore anymore after a quick nap.
Same here. Luffy was the best thing that happened to me, and then when the blonde idiot joined us as best friends, it was great. Luffy, don't hate yourself, okay? Weird things happen, but it's a fine trade off for being with you guys.
Luffy had tears going down his face, clamping his lips shut tightly. He smiled a watery smile, feeling blessed. Blessed with a loving family and wonderful friends. Why him? He should be a freak, ostracized. But he was the opposite, loved by so many. He didn't feel bad or evil, but he wasn't human and never had or would be.
But still, he had more than many people had. More than lots of humans. Luffy sent back a smiley face, even though it wasn't anywhere near conveying how happy they made him feel. Thank you.
No need to thank us. I mean, being with you made us pretty much invincible, right? I'm fine with some marks we can pass off as tattoos in a couple years, Sanji sent. Luffy took a photo of his back and then put sleep clothes on, hurrying downstairs to look for his brothers or family. He saw Ace and Sabo about to leave, so he went to Marco.
"Marco. We have new markings," he said simply. Marco raised his eyebrows, and Luffy showed him the photos of all three of their new marks. His mouth opened a little bit. "They aren't upset about it, but what will happen next?"
The phoenix said he wasn't sure, but they couldn't do anything but wait to see what happened in the future. He ruffled Luffy's hair. "You got good friends, Luffy. A good pack." Luffy looked at his phone and smiled, agreeing wholeheartedly.
-x-
The next day, the trio walked into class, and everyone went silent. They had no bruises anywhere, and looked perfectly fine. Zoro groaned, "C'mon, it was a consensual fight. Stop blowing it out of proportion. It's not like we'll just suddenly decide to beat the pulp out of everyone."
Luffy was looking truly hurt and put his head down on the desk. Sanji let out a heavy sigh.
"Whatever, go ahead and freak out about us," Zoro said sourly. Luffy looked down. Nami said, "We're sorry. It was just a shock to see you all so brutal."
"It shouldn't be. We were literally heard by most of you about how hard we were gonna go on each other, complaining about the fights not being fun. And here you're acting like we're monsters. Luffy has horns but he's not a monster and neither are the two of us." When people looked ashamed but some still looked hesitant, Zoro had enough to push from his desk, storming outside. Luffy and Sanji followed.
Aizawa walked past them, asking where they were going. Zoro kept walking and didn't respond. "Everyone is staring at us, about the fights. Zoro needs a breather. We'll be back in a few minutes," Luffy explained. Aizawa looked ready to protest before he saw Luffy's lower lip wobble as he turned away. "Alright. Don't take too long, today is important."
Three minutes later and all three of them were on the roof, laying on their backs. Zoro had his eyes closed as he was taking deep, calming breaths. Sanji said, "Flipping out isn't gonna help, Zoro. But I understand how you feel."
"I know," Zoro said calmly. "I'm not mad about myself. They can be scared of me, I don't give a fuck. But I know Luffy is insecure enough already. He doesn't need our friends looking at him like he's a monster." Luffy's eyes widened, and he looked down at his green haired friend.
"You guys really don't regret being my friends? At all?"
Sanji sighed. "How many times do we have to say it?" Luffy apologized. "No, I don't mean to be impatient or anything. But we've stuck around for ten years. I think you'd have weirded us out enough by now to leave if we didn't want to stay," he said with a grin.
Luffy smiled a light smile. "You're my pack. I want other friends, but I don't need them. We don't need them. I won't let them ruin my mood," he said in a firm voice. The other two nodded, and Luffy flew them back down and into the hallway, where they walked back into class with stoic faces and sat down. Zoro picked up the chair he'd knocked over when he left in anger.
"Now that everyone is gathered, today we're doing something new. Code names. You're picking hero names for yourself. This is related to the pro-hero draft picks I told you about the other day. The scouting of pros. The drafts begin in earnest in the second and third years after students have gained experience and can become immediate assets to the pros. In other words, for them to extend offer to first years like you shows that they're interested in your future potential." Apparently if the enthusiasm trickled away by graduation, they're pretty much cancelled.
He showed them a diagram of how many offers each of them got. Luffy had the most, with Zoro, Sanji and Todoroki the next three. Bakugo was one after that and the rest had very little offers. "At least pro-heroes aren't afraid we'll snap and attack them," Zoro said, seemingly unable to help himself. Some in the class winced and looked down at their desks.
Aizawa pretended that little outburst didn't happen, and continued to explain about pro-hero internships. They would all be taking place in one even if they got zero offers. But after getting experience fighting villains, they still needed more training on how pros work first hand. Which was why they were getting their hero names, though they were temporary at the moment. For that, Midnight came in. Luffy's head was resting on his arms, Zoro was leaning back in his seat so far he looked like he was looking down at anyone who turned around, and Sanji had his cheek resting on his hand and looking out the window.
The three of them were barely paying attention but still knew they had to come up with names and took the whiteboards and pens. Todoroki turned to Luffy, surprising him, and said, "Thanks for not going easy on me. It would have been more embarrassing to win a match where the opponent was barely trying."
The others were listening and some looked repentant. "I'm glad you're not scared of me," Luffy joked.
"You didn't actually do any damage besides the arm. Even without Recovery Girl to heal them, she said none of the cuts were deep enough to scar and it was a clean break. So, no hard feelings," Todoroki said. Luffy smiled and returned that he had no hard feelings.
Luffy looked down at his whiteboard, having no idea what to call himself. He didn't want to call attention to his looks, so it wouldn't have anything having to do with his appearance. But he didn't have any nicknames other than "Lu" and that was from his big brothers. He had no idea. And he couldn't do anything about his wings, since Hawks already owned that name.
So, he just wrote his first name. He looked to the side and saw Zoro just had his name, too. Sanji had something longer than his own name. When students started presenting their boards, Luffy honestly paid no attention, too focused on his own feelings. His attempts to not care about everyone's thoughts about him. It was hard.
Maybe he'd been spoiled, having friends when he wasn't one of them. But he had Zoro and Sanji. Was that enough, though? He knew that everyone else would not accept what he was, would not be unafraid of his full demon form. So he couldn't let them know the truth at all. But still. They should know he was at least odd by now. How he seemed to have a mix of quirks.
When it was his turn, he went to the front of the class and showed his first name briefly before sitting back down. Zoro followed, though he had a much worse attitude with the way he was looking at everyone. Sanji was up next, and his was "Blackleg Sanji". Since he always wore black pants when it wasn't a school uniform. His costume had black pants.
He said nothing and sat down as well. Luffy and Zoro weren't the only ones going with just their first names. Todoroki and Iida were doing that, too. Everyone else had at least some idea if not already decided on what their name would be. Luffy didn't pay attention, unable to focus. He started getting a headache before he heard, Stupid fuckers. Luffy's all sad now, I want to kill them all.
His eyes widened and he looked to Zoro. He touched his shoulder, but Zoro did look any different. Luffy couldn't hear his voice anymore. He heard Sanji's next, saying Should make him something to feel better, but what can I make that Thatch-san can't?
Luffy was hearing their thoughts. Zoro, Sanji? Their heads jerked up and stared at him. All of their eyes were wide, staring at their desks. Can you hear me?
Yeah.
Yes.
Luffy let out a broken sigh that was a silent laugh in disbelief.
Hope I grow wings, Zoro's voice said simply.
We'll figure this out later. Just, try to turn it off? Hearing our thoughts all the time would be annoying.
Okay.
And Luffy didn't hear their thoughts anymore. What was going on? Were the new marks and this some sort of upgrade in their bond? It was so strange, but Luffy wasn't very upset with it. He thought it was cool, and Zoro and Sanji were both wearing light smiles, too. They weren't upset. He was happy that they weren't upset, they seemed to truly be ready for anything weird. It looked like Zoro enjoyed the weird developments. But Luffy did wonder, if he could contact any demons, if they would even know what to do. Would they ever have bonded with humans before?
It was a mystery Luffy knew would never be solved. After everyone made their names, they were told briefly about the internships, that they'd last a week and that they would pick from the list of offers they'd gotten.
When they got their lists of offers, Luffy searched for the "H"s and found it! He got an invite from Hawks! "Yes, I got it. Hawks scouted me," Luffy told his friends excitedly.
"Didn't Marco not want you meeting him?" Zoro asked.
"Mmhmm, but I really want to meet the only other winged person I know of. Did you two get him?" Sanji and Zoro shook their heads. "Did you get any top pro-hero offers?" he asked. Apparently they both got offers from Endeavor. Luffy laughed. "I'm not surprised I didn't get an offer from him. I'm definitely going for Hawks, though."
"We got scouted for Whitebeard, but that's probably personal. They don't take in interns unless they 'adopt' them, right?" Sanji asked. Luffy nodded. He noticed people eavesdropping and then the students apologized to them, for how they were acting.
Do they mean it or do they just feel guilty they made us upset? Zoro's voice asked.
I don't know. Well, we'll be on guard if they're lying. For now let's accept their apologies, Sanji's voice said.
"We forgive you. Just… we would never hurt one of you. Maybe Bakugo if he's being violent again, but we're not uncontrollable monsters. We didn't fight like that other than with each other because we knew we could handle it," Luffy said.
Zoro asked, "Were you all honestly afraid of us?"
Nami replied, "I think shocked and unsettled, not afraid. At least for me and Usopp. I don't know about the others, but I've known you guys for a long time, and was just shocked to see you fight like that. I don't see anything wrong with you guys as people. Just crazy battle guys. I mean, you enjoyed it, right?" They nodded. "Then that's all that should matter."
The others confessed they felt weak and insignificant compared to how good they were at their quirks and fighting. Sanji said, "If you felt that way, it shouldn't have turned into fearing us, it should have turned into dedication to better yourselves."
They froze, thinking before, as a consensus, they said they were sorry and weren't scared of them. Luffy nodded, though he was questioning if they were honest or just felt guilty. Nami was being honest, Luffy could tell after so long. Todoroki seemed to have no problem with what happened. So nobody else should. Things with them, hopefully, would get better, while Luffy was sure he and his best friends would only get weirder.
Zoro seemed excited and Sanji seemed like he'd just go with the flow. So, things were okay.
-x-
Since Luffy didn't need to take the train, he flew away from the meeting spot with the class, carrying his briefcase with the costume in it. They weren't allowed to wear them on the streets, but would when they got to their hero agency intern. Zoro and Sanji were with Todoroki, going to Endeavor's. Luffy was the only one scouted by Hawks. He was excited, but also nervous. Marco never told him why he wasn't allowed to see him.
Hopefully Marco wouldn't be too angry. He flew there, knowing where to go from the gps on his wrist that he gotten from Ace. He easily found the agency and landed in front of its doors. He hurried inside, looking for Hawks. He was nervous, his heart beating rapidly. Hawks would be easy to see, and he did find him.
His wings weren't as big as Marco's but were bigger than Luffy's in his humanoid form. Hawks turned around before Luffy said anything, and looked him up and down before grinning. Luffy wondered and a little bit worried about that look.
"Luffy, it's nice to finally meet you after Marco's been hiding you for ten years. Let's go on a flight and then I'll sign the contract for your internship. C'mon, chicklet, go get dressed," he said, pushing Luffy to the changing room. He seemed… really excited. And the nickname was a bit odd. But he got changed, and Hawks was grinning, and said they should go on a flight now.
Luffy put his visor on and they both flew off. "So, now I know why Marco was hiding you," he said with a fly grin. "What are you?" Luffy stopped and landed on a roof. "Oh, c'mon. You've lived with the Whitebeard's for ten years, I don't expect you to be some monster. They fuckin' adore you. I'm just curious. If you don't want to tell me that's fine. But if I tell anybody else, I know I'll have some very angry Whitebeard's on my case."
The demon nodded, feeling a bit more reassured by his words. They flew off again. "I don't know what I am. We just call me a demon since I look like it." Hawks was grinning and asked where he came from. "I don't know that either. Some guy with a drugged quirk supposedly brought me here. I was just a baby in a stroller, and Marco took me home and then they raised me there," he explained honestly.
"That's so cool. Damn, I'm so curious. What kinds of things can you do?"
Luffy sensed no ill intent from Hawks. And he was a close friend to Marco, so he obviously wasn't a terrible, slimy person. So Luffy explained his telekinesis, his healing, and his full form. Hawks lead him to a national park after hearing about Luffy's full demon form. He was surprised when they landed and the pro-hero requested seeing full form Luffy.
He honestly felt he could trust Hawks. Maybe it was a big mistake, but he really felt it wouldn't be. He walked into the trees and told Hawks to look away while he undressed to not rip his clothes.
He shifted into his huge form and said, "Okay," in the deep growl he had in this form. He towered over Hawks, who whistled. He grinned and said, "That's very cool. Man, you could really do some damage that way. Do you ever use it?"
Luffy walked deeper, smelling people nearby and Hawks followed. Luffy almost knocked some trees down, but was able to shimmy between trunks. "No. There's no reason to. I used to automatically turn into it while sleeping. It was how Marco confirmed for sure that I wasn't a human baby," he explained. Marco was gonna be mad at him, he knew already.
"Man, that's fascinating. Well, now that I got to know you a bit, time for work!" he announced and hurried to bring Luffy's clothes back to him. "I can't wait to teach someone else with wings!" he said excitedly. He didn't really act his age, but that was fine. Luffy changed behind a tree after transforming back to normal.
They flew back to his agency, him asking Luffy about his friends. "Well… did you see the last two fights, at the sports festival, with my two friends?"
"Yeah. You guys were brutal," Hawks replied.
"We only fought like that because they can regenerate, too. So none of us were actually hurt by fighting so hard." He seemed surprised with this, asking how that was. "The more time I spend with them, the more they start having traits like mine. We all have tattoo-like marks on our backs. They… say they're fine with it, and I think they're telling the truth. I trust them."
"So… being a demon is contagious?" Hawks summed up curiously. Luffy said they were still figuring that out. "Well, it's lucky they can regenerate, though. That's gotta be pretty handy." Luffy nodded, liking Hawks already.
When they got back to the agency, the winged hero took him inside and signed and stamped the contract. "Good to be working with you, Luffy. Make sure Marco knows my reaction. Hope you don't get in too much trouble," he said with an entertained grin.
Luffy said, "Don't remind me." Hawks put him to work immediately, taking him on patrol where he was surprised that Luffy could actually keep up with how fast he flew, and how fast his work was. From one problem to another in record time. Luffy wished Zoro and Sanji could do this, too. It'd be fun to fly with them.
Then he heard Zoro's voice in his head. Holy shit, no fuckin way, oh my god…
What? What's wrong? Luffy's voice asked in worry.
I had a feather just fall out of my shirt.
No way. No, you're lying- shit, I have one too!
Luffy was in shock and slightly horrified, okay, very horrified. But he was on autopilot as he worked until Hawks took him aside. "What happened? Your demeanor completely changed," he said in worry. Luffy bit his lip.
"I - I can hear my friends in my head. We can talk like that. They both said feathers fell out of their shirts," Luffy said, eyes wide and panicking.
"Oh, damn."
-x-
After work, Luffy flew to Zoro's house and banged on the door, him opening it looking bewildered. "Turn around, show me," Luffy commanded.
"There's nothing there, I checked. I don't know what happened," Zoro said, but turned around and lifted his shirt. It looked completely fine. The marks hadn't changed at all and there was no sign of a wing sprouting out. Luffy asked if it hurt at all. "Not at all. I just freaked out, finding a feather after the whole telepathy thing." but then he grinned. "Man! If I could fly, that would be amazing!"
Luffy was baffled. "You honestly want this to keep happening? What if you grow horns and a tail, too? It would be more than abnormal! Everyone would know something is up," he said.
Zoro replied, "Well, what happens happens, right? Personally, I wouldn't mind looking like you. I don't know about Sanji. Wings would attract ladies, probably. Don't know about the horns and tail. He was with me when we both noticed, and he was pretty calm about it."
Luffy sat down on the couch, and put his head in his hands. Zoro sat next to him, putting his arm around Luffy's shoulders. "It'll work out, Luffy. Don't worry so much," Zoro said kindly. The voice he only reserved for Luffy, not even with Sanji. Sometimes they both treated Luffy like he was made of glass. And other times they thought he's the strongest person ever.
Sanji? Is there anything new for you?
No. I've checked, nothing different about my back. But I'm keeping an eye on it. Man, things sure are interesting being your friend. Haha.
Yeah. I guess so. You're not bothered with it? Zoro thinks it would be cool.
What happens will happen. Besides, flying would be pretty cool in my opinion. We're not gonna ditch you anytime soon.
Luffy smiled and thanked them both. He sighed. "I wish I knew more about what's happening. I wish I could have somebody to ask, but I'm glad I'm surrounded by friends and family. He closed his eyes and then opened them. "I just wish I could see into that world. Even if it's only a little."
Suddenly there was a loud sound that echoed throughout Zoro's house, sounding like a zipper, and both Luffy and Zoro jerked up to see a big portal like thing above them. Luffy was shocked, and dared to touch it. But it was solid. A window, not a door. They both sat up and looked at it, seeing what looked like an ocean.
It had the sunset, only there were two suns setting in the sky. There were huge creatures flowing through the air as if they were swimming in the water. Somebody walked past. A person like Luffy was. It was a woman. She had curling horns, unlike Luffy's, and more leathery wings. There were black markings around her arms, down to the biceps.
Luffy tapped on the window, but they couldn't be seen. "Is this the world you came from?" Luffy said he'd assume so. "Wow," Zoro sighed, and laid back down on the carpet to look up. "You're amazing." Luffy grinned and laughed, saying amazing was better than weird. "You're weird, too, but in an interesting way."
"Gee, thanks," Luffy replied, feeling lighthearted. "Maybe someday I could visit the other world. Turn this window into a door." He saw Zoro's face fall flat. "Don't worry, I wouldn't leave this world for that one. Everyone I love is here. Maybe, I could just go and ask some questions. Maybe you could come see, too," Luffy sighed. "Don't worry," he repeated.
He looked away from the window, and asked what Zoro's mom thought of everything. "She kind of avoids the topic since I'm snappy about it. I just don't want to risk telling anyone. Letting anything slip."
Luffy laughed awkwardly and told him he'd told Hawks pretty much everything. "What?" he asked darkly. Luffy told him that Hawks knew the moment he saw him that he wasn't a human. And then said he wouldn't say a thing. He said Marco was Hawks' friend, so he couldn't be a bad person. "Marco has been keeping you from meeting him for years."
"I- I know, but he's his friend! Marco would never be friends and work with a bad person," Luffy said defensively, questioning his actions with Zoro's opinions making sense. "There's nothing I can about it now, though."
Zoro sighed and said that was true. But that he would be in so much trouble with Marco. Luffy said he knew that and was prepared. After that conversation cut off, they returned to looking at the window. Luffy said he wanted to look somewhere else.
He put his hands up and imagined it as google earth and being able to swivel the view. It worked and they saw a different part of the area. There were tons of demons that looked like Luffy. He wasn't abnormal in that world. He saw little babies that looked like the photos taken of him as a baby. They were all so cute, even with the horns. Well, they weren't sharp. Short and rounded.
Luffy eventually left when it was dinner time and the window disappeared. "Tell me if anything weird happens again," Luffy said sternly. Zoro said he would, on his way to the kitchen. "Good luck with your internship tomorrow."
They hadn't talked about Zoro's time, which Luffy felt bad about. "I'll talk to you and Sanji later. We never talked about your internships," Luffy said before closing the door, not waiting for an answer before flying straight home.
When he got back, he found Marco standing in front of him with his arms crossed. "Hawks called me." Luffy started to sweat. "He told me that you told him everything." Luffy looked down and said he felt he could trust Hawks with the truth. "He is trustworthy, but that doesn't change the fact that you did something you know I wouldn't want you to do. And you told him before us about Zoro and Sanji."
Luffy winced. "I forgot to tell you all. It was so stressful. And I showed you the marks. But… I'm afraid their bodies will change more. Both of them had a feather appear out of their backs. They weren't black, but feathers, still."
Marco's face softened a little bit. "Are they upset by this?" Luffy shook his head. Neither of them seemed upset. Luffy wondered if he was turning them into demons, too. "Well, if that happens then we'll all deal with it then. But you're still in trouble. I know I'm not your parent, but you're grounded. You only get to go out for school and internship for the next week."
Luffy nodded, accepting the punishment. But it was kind of mean to deprive him of flying. But that was the punishment since he knew Luffy's favorite activity was going on long flights. He could deal with not flying for two weeks. It was an easy punishment.
He went upstairs and put his backpack down before heading back to the kitchen to eat. "Little rebel," Thatch said when he walked in. Luffy didn't look proud, but didn't regret it. Hawks seemed like a cool guy, and learning to be a hero while flying was helpful. Though it wouldn't work very well with Zoro and Sanji if they couldn't keep up with him.
Maybe they could work at the same agency for a bit and then become pro-heroes and make their own agency! Well, they'd work together no matter what. While Thatch cooked dinner while also baking cookies for the children in their care that day to eat afterwards, Luffy told Thatch about the window to his world.
Thatch dropped his spatula in shock and swore, washing it in the sink. "Want to see?" Luffy asked. Thatch nodded, but said after he was done with dinner. But he was really excited to see, and impatient. Though he didn't rush his cooking. He made every meal as perfect as he could. And usually they were. Unless the meal included shark meat.
During dinner at the huge tables, Luffy showed the window above them. They all looked up to see the creatures swimming around in the air or the people who looked like Luffy. The room was quiet in awe and interest. But when it started to hurt their necks, looking up, Luffy got rid of it.
"I want to see if it can be turned into a door and not just a window." When everyone who heard grew uneasy and looked upset, he told them the same thing he'd told Zoro. That it would be a temporary visit. He wasn't going to leave everybody behind. But at least if things went wrong, he could have some place to hide.
Like, wrong wrong. As in his life or freedom was in danger. After dinner, he went upstairs, and formed the window again. He pressed his fingers against it hard, trying to see if he could break through. He punched it, but nothing happened.
He wondered how he did that. Was this only for seeing into that world? Or could he have a window everywhere? Was this a new power? He tried to open a window to the hallway of Sanji's house, knowing better than to peek in his room like a creep. He pressed his fingers against it again. But he could make a window everywhere! Well, so far, two places. Very, very different places.
He decided to try something, and brought out his claws, ripping them down the window. It made a screeching noise before he stopped. Big the two sides around the long line he'd scratched turned wavy, as if they were curtains. He cautiously stepped through it, and dropped down onto the carpet of his blonde friend's house.
He knocked on Sanji's door. "Come in," he said, probably expecting his mom. He opened it and said, "Yo."
"What the- when did you come in?" Sanji asked in surprise.
Luffy said, "Just now. New power. Wanna go bother Zoro?" Sanji looked questioning, and Luffy opened up a window to Zoro's house. It was solid, like the previous, until he ripped his claws down the middle. He grinned and motioned for Sanji to come with him.
The blonde smiled and they both went inside the portal. They popped out in Zoro's house, and knocked on his bedroom door. He was just as confused as Sanji had been. "Looks like I can make doors. And not to my home world," Luffy said with an excited voice. "Let's go somewhere."
Zoro said, "How about you back to your home? You're grounded right?"
"Oh shit! Oh, I'll see you later, then," Luffy said. He created a portal for Sanji and shoved him back into his room before Luffy jumped back to his place. Nobody noticed he'd gone! He made the portal to his home world, and took a deep breath before he ripped his claws down it, but nothing happened other than that horrible sound of dragging metal. He punched it again, but nothing happened.
It looked like, for now at least, it was only in this world. He did wonder what the distance range was. He imagined opening a window to the golden gate bridge in America, and saw it. But when he tried to scratch it into curtains, that didn't work. So, it had a distance limit. Well, he couldn't have everything go perfectly. But it was pretty cool!
