ALLIES (FOR NOW)

"Under the Rhode Island New State Statute, we now establish The Pro Hero System. From now on, individuals can have authorization to use their Quirks and professionally work as heroes while they uphold the law. This day, we introduce to you the first eight ex-Vigilantes to get their Pro Hero license. We humbly ask for your support as we march into this new age. People of America, please know that the ex-Vigilantes, now Pro Heroes, are working together with the government to eradicate all super-powered evil doers for the sake of public safety. We have decided that it is best to coordinate as there are bigger problems to face than one another." - Excerpt from the transcript of President Jacob's speech on the implementation of the Pro-Hero System

Miu Busujima

Panting like an asthmatic little child, Sora, my precious older twin, leans against a tree to rest for a bit. We've only been sprinting full speed for no more than a minute, but I know more than anyone that to her that was like running an entire marathon; quite deadly if you ask me.

She bends down to caress her covered knees, the backpack she was wearing on her front dropping to the ground, settling between her boots dirty from days of trekking in the woods.

"We can start flying now, you know?" I whispered as I kneel in front of her. Without a word, I reached out to loosen her knee braces in hopes of relieving the pain I'm sure she's feeling, but Sora stops me. She stands upright, picks up the bag, and forces herself to walk forward, almost limping. My heart clenches in pity and guilt, but I try to ignore it.

"I am fine," she says, obviously not fine.

"Keep lying to yourself," I replied, marching behind her.

This gains me a glare so cold I could have gotten hypothermia, but since I'm her sweet, little, baby twin sister, I'm immune. Seeing that her silent threats are not working, Sora faces forward again. "Fine. I am not, but that does not mean we may fly. The enemies might see us. We have to move quietly while they are distracted."

"Yeah, distracted with killing the people we saved!" I fired back at her. "Can you hear yourself right now? The Sora before would've never left them."

"You already said it. Before. Meaning, in the past," she said in her usual flat tone and kept moving forward. Didn't even face me. Didn't even flinch.

Why did you become like this, Sora?- You actually know the answer don't you?- I do, but- If you do then just obey. There's no point in arguing.- But what if-

My intelligent conversation with myself got cut short when suddenly the ground shook, stopping us in our tracks. "What the- Earthquake?" I exclaimed, my voice an octave higher than usual.

Sora instantly reached out for my hand and I took it. I don't know if she's trying to reassure me or if she needs my assurance. Either or, I felt her tense hand relax when I squeezed it.

After just a second, the ground stopped shaking. I glanced at Sora and in her shifty eyes, I knew that it wasn't just an earthquake. So, I closed my eyes, focusing on vibrating membranes in my larynx. The high frequency sound it produced spreads out my surroundings helping me see what my eyes can't reach but my ears could perfectly hear. It's just this simple thing we call echolocation.

Trees, rocks, insects scuttling toward us, shrubs, a fallen log, tiny birds flying to escape, a clearing- Oh. My. God.

My eyes shoot open. "Sora, I'm going ba-"

Before I could finish my sentence, Sora already dropped her bag and flapped her wings to fly back. This girl. I knew you couldn't help it.

My lips stretched into a smile as I followed her into the sky.

Using our echolocation, we followed Deku and Dynamight as they ran away from the large guy.

These heroes sure do run fast even without meta abilities, I thought, challenge and competitiveness rising in me. I have to reach them. Now! As fast as I can.

I rode the wind, my hair frantically flapping around my face. In mere seconds, we found them running through the trees towards a- Oh no!

Being high up, I could see everything. Enemies are closing in on the heroes in all directions and straight up ahead, there's a cliff waiting for them; A mesmerizing cliff with a very inviting hundred feet drop to beautiful jagged rocks and an exciting gory death.

Me: They'll be cornered. We must pick them up. But trees too thick. Can't land.

Sora: Catch them at cliff. Tell them: jump.

Me: Will they listen?

Sora: They have no choice.

Mind you, this is not some weird telepathic connection between twins nor is telepathy an extra meta ability of ours. What my sister and I are actually doing is a way of communication we came up with when we started using our meta abilities to help people, or as other people call it; Vigilantism (sigh).

Basically, we're just pulsating the sounds we produce from our larynx in Morse code which my sister found in her usual trips to the library. This way, no one can hear us (unless they can hear at the frequency we're using, which is high) and we can communicate without opening our pretty little lips (very useful in covert missions and gossiping.)

When Deku and Dynamight finally reached the cliff, I was nearly dozing off. Just joking, we arrived about 5.2 seconds before them.

I was just about to shout at them, but my voice got caught in my throat with the appearance of Somi the Pink-Toxic-Farter-Deku-Kisser plus three more enemies; Small Hood, Tall Hood, and Average Hood.

Should I attack the three instead? One of them could be the hole-portal-thing maker.

No time to think! The large one is almost here! Miu, shout!

"Jump!" I said as I started flying downwards, toward the two. Beside me, matching my speed, the only one who could, is Sora.

Why aren't they moving?

"Jump! Now!" I tried again.

The two frozen heroes look up. Then, Tall Hood- or was it Average Hood? Anyway, one of them shouts, "Wormhole!"

Small Hood, I assume to be Wormhole, points a small hand at us, then, a hole appears.

Trying to catch us, eh? You're not in luck. No one can catch us.

Sora and I turned in opposite directions to dodge the hole and continued towards our goal; the two heroes. More holes appeared, but that won't stop us. We squeezed through gaps, maneuvering through it all in ease. Kind of like a reverse Whac-A-Mole.

"What are you suicidal heroes doing? Jump! Now!" Someone shouts from beside me. Wait. Was that Sora? Did she seriously just shout? Sora? Shout? Those two words don't exactly belong in the same sentence for me. Unless she cared. She cared!

Apparently, her shout was effective, though. Deku instantly jumps off the cliff. Oof- Time to play catch-the-falling-man again.

I dove for him and catched him in my arms, just like last time. The only difference is this time, his eyes were open. Emerald green eyes that looked up at me, sparkling like priceless jewels.

"T- Thanks, Miu," he said, a little breathless. From the fall!

My heart clenched, and not from pity or guilt this time. What is it then?

"No problem!" I said, also breathless. From carrying a heavy man! Yes, yes.

Heavy with muscle that I could feel tensing and shifting in my arms.

Sometimes, I really hate these conversations I have with myself. And that's what I decided to blame my reddening face on. Anger at myself, yes.

Never have I been more thankful for the mask that's covering half my face. Or else Deku would've-

"That's taking trust fall to another level, I guess," he said with that cute silly smile. His face is becoming red now, too. Don't tell me he's-

And I didn't really get to tell whatever he was because at that moment an uprooted tree dropped down on us. I dodged and, damn, was it twice the effort.

Wait! Back up! A tree? A whole bloody tree?!

My eyes bulged out of their sockets after realizing what actually just whizzed by me.

"Did someone just throw a fuc- freaking tree at us?!" I screamed at Deku. Oh, his poor ears.

"Must be Gigantomachia. I don't know if they have anyone else as strong, so it must be him," he replies at a more reasonable volume.

"Giganto-what now?"

"The large one. I'll explain later. For now, let's escape."

I had no reason to refuse, so I flew along the cliff wall, hiding from the enemies' eyes. But that didn't stop them from throwing trees and now huge rocks too at us.

Worried about my sister, and surprisingly, Dynamight as well, I looked around for them and found them a few feet below me.

I hate to admit it, but damn am I glad that I got the compliant, green-haired passenger. Sora, on the other hand, got stuck with a grumpy, struggling, blonde gremlin who's obviously not comfortable with the idea of being carried like a bride.

Now that I think about it, we didn't really discuss which man to go for, did we? Interesting…

"If you do not stop moving, I will drop you," Sora states, back to her usual tone, which was impressive considering the fact that, like me, she's carrying someone twice her size while making her way through a rain of trees and rocks.

"Go ahead, Sor- Bangs! I don't care! I don't need saving!" Ooh, my sister's poor ears.

"As much as I would like to comply, I can not because, as a matter of fact, you do need saving."

"I don't-"

"Kacchan! Stop it! We need to go!" Deku shouts at him, then faces me again. "Miu, I have a plan."

"A plan to fly as fast as we can away from the enemies? Yep, I've got that already."

"No, something better- Ah!" I almost dropped him. Dodging these trees and rocks while carrying him is seriously taking a toll on me, and He seems guiltily aware of it. "I- I'm sorry-"

"No, I'm sorry. It's just- my arms are burning." The strain in my voice is evident now as I heave Deku up again, securing my hold on him.

"Again, I have a plan. It came from this idea that-"

"No need to explain. What's the plan?"

"Fly up. As high as you can."

"Up? Towards, you know, the five people who want to kill us?"

"Higher than that if possible."

I stared at him, trying to figure out if he's joking or something. He stared back, completely serious.

"Ugh! Fine. But, we'll be dodging more attacks there. Possibly holes in addition to trees and rocks," I pointed out at him.

"Yes," he replies, no hesitation at all.

"It won't be easy with you in my arms."

"I know. I'm sorry. But-"

"Ssh." I cut him off before he could say anything else.

I already know what to do. Why am I hesitating?

"I'm gonna ask you to do something for me."

He nods and says, "Anything!"

I gulped down all the fear, pressure, and whatever it is that's clenching at my chest, then ordered him something that I've ordered other people I've rescued multiple times; something that, for some reason, I'm hesitating to say to him.

"Put your arms and legs around me."

"I- I'm sorry- What?"

"Cling to me so you don't fall."

**~A/N [05/15/2021]~** Three cheers for Miu's first POV chapter! (cheers, cheers, cheers) What can you say? I hope I was able to set distinct tones and attitudes for the four main characters well. Moving forward, I'd just switch from these four's POVs and sometimes add a third person perspective as well. Happy reading! XX
