"I have to disclose something." Olivia said as she sat down in the chair across from her chief, her hands immediately fidgeting in her lap. "Two things actually."

"I'm listening."

Baby first, or Amanda first? Right now it felt a lot like she was picking her poison.

Disclosing the pregnancy was necessary for a number of reasons, and she knew it was the right thing to do. She also knew that it would place her behind a desk for months, which after her close call during the stake out didn't feel entirely dreadful. Disclosing her relationship with Amanda was solely based on a sense of obligation. As captain, she didn't have the luxury of sneaking around anymore. Things could so easily blow up in her face if she tried to hide this.

And it hadn't hurt that Amanda was surprisingly eager to just get it out in the open. "I'm too old for this shit" she had said after coming home from a dinner with Fin, Kat and Carisi. The secret and subtle handholding under the table had felt a bit too juvenile for both of them.

"If you're too old for this, what does that make me?"

"Also too old for this shit." The blonde smiled as she closed the distance between them, finally getting that kiss she had been thinking about all night.

So here she was, feeling like she was fourteen again and back in the principal's office. Except this time, she hadn't been caught smoking on school grounds.

"I'm pregnant."

"Olivia, that's wonderful! Congratulations." Chief Garland threw is arms out with a big grin on his face.

The captain eyed him a little suspiciously for a few seconds before her lips curled into a smile. "You already knew, didn't you?"

He looked like he was contemplating a denial at first but quickly let it go. "Well, I do have a wife who's been pregnant, I might've noticed some... things."

"I should've told you earlier, but... it was a lot to process."

"No need to explain. How are you feeling? If you don't mind me asking?"

"Ok, for the most part. Still dealing with some nausea, but other than that I'm as healthy as can be at twenty-three weeks."

"Good, that's really good." He said as he leaned back in his chair. "And the other thing?"

Olivia swallowed before clearing her throat. Turned out, the pregnancy was the easy part. "I have to disclose a relationship."

"With the father?"

She let out a sudden and nervous laugh. Still, at twenty-three weeks, she had no idea how to explain that part to anyone. There was always the risk of Noah letting it slip, so she couldn't keep it a secret forever. But for now, she didn't have it in her to go into those kinds of details with her chief. Also, it wasn't really any of his business.

"Not exactly. It's Amanda. Detective Rollins." The captain watched as a smile spread across his face. "You knew that, too?"

"I had a hunch." Garland said with a shrug. "Well, nothing much changes. No special treatment, and if there's ever need for any disciplinary action, she'll go through me and not you."

"Of course." The brunette nodded.

"I'm happy for you. Truly."

And in the middle of all the craziness and unexpected twist and turns, so was Olivia. If she was being honest with herself she hadn't been this happy in years, maybe since she adopted Noah five years ago. And even then, she had felt so vulnerable because she was doing it alone.

She was just about to leave his office when he stopped her. "And captain? It goes without saying that you're now officially on desk duty for the next few months. I don't want any discussions."

"Understood, chief."

The next morning, Amanda felt her tired eyes light up when she watched Olivia walk into the squad room.

The captain had finally retired the oversized shirts she had been wearing for weeks now, and exchanged it for a white T-shirt under her blazer, the bump that Amanda loved so much now clearly visible.

"My office, please." Olivia ordered, looking from Fin to Kat, before her eyes landed on the blonde.

When they were all gathered in her office she eyed the detective for a short moment and when she was met with a quick but reassuring smile, she felt herself breathe just a little easier.

"Kat and Amanda already know, and I told Garland yesterday, so Fin, surprise." She made it sound so formal but even Olivia couldn't hide the smile on her face as she pointed to her stomach.

"Congrats, cap, but… I kinda already knew."

"You too?" Olivia sounded mildly disappointed as she sat down behind her desk.

"I've been a detective since Kat was in diapers, captain. No offense, Tamin." He snickered as he nodded towards the officer who rolled her eyes at him.

"Right, ok. Well, there's more..." The captain played with her glasses for a few seconds before she turned to Amanda.

"What?" Fin asked.

"Amanda and I..." She started before she cleared her throat, looking from one set of eyes to another. "We're together."

"Huh?"

"They're a couple, Fin." Kat whispered as if she was telling him a secret that even Olivia and Amanda weren't supposed to know about.

"Oh... Oh! Well, ok. Didn't see that one coming."

"You didn't?" The officer looked at him with a smirk on her face.

"You did?"

"You might be a seasoned detective, Fin, but I'm bi. I knew when I joined the squad."

"Uh, we've only been together a few weeks."

"Ok, Rollins." Kat scoffed.

"What? It's the truth." The blonde detective frowned a little as she folded her arms.

"Sure."

Amanda and Olivia stared at each other, both looking a little bewildered for a moment before they silently agreed that maybe the young officer had a point.

"So, how does it feel now that everything's out in the open?" Amanda asked as she joined Olivia on the couch and handed her a cup of tea. "Careful, it's hot."

"Good, I think. I mean, I guess I'm mostly relieved. I just..."

"Worry that people will start treating you differently?" The blonde asked while placing a blanket over their tangled legs.

"Mhm."

"I get it. I felt the same way with both pregnancies."

"Did we?"

"What?

"Treat you differently?"

"A little. But in the end, I didn't mind it, well, not all of it."

They shared a short smile, thinking back to how overprotective Olivia had been at times, and how Carisi wouldn't let her be alone with any of the perps they brought in for interrogation.

"And you? No regrets about telling people about us?" The brunette asked before carefully blowing on her tea.

"Not at all. I'm happy." She sounded honest enough, but there was something sad in her eyes that was impossible to ignore.

"But?"

"But... There's still my mom."

"She doesn't know that you're... Wait, I just realized we've never talked about this. What are you?"

"I have no idea. You're the only one." The detective chuckled, because she had never imagined having this kind of conversation at her age.

"The only woman?"

"Mhm."

"Huh… Well… If, when, you decide to tell her, I'm here. No matter what."

They looked at each other for a moment, and even with the heartfelt smile on her face, Amanda noticed something in Olivia's brown eyes she had seen before. That look she sometimes got when she was holding something back.

"Where did your mind go just now?"

She waited patiently and wondered if she would get the usual "nothing" or "I'm fine".

"You, bringing up your mom, just… made me think."

"And?"

"It made me think of grandparents. And I suddenly remembered being so jealous of kids my age who would go spend the weekend or afternoons with theirs. I was desperate for that kind of... normalcy, you know? Maybe that's why I wanted things to work out with Sheila. To give Noah something I never had."

"I get that."

"What about you? Did you have any grandparents growing up?"

"My dad never talked about his parents, and I never met them, my guess is they were as fucked up as he is. My grandpa on my mother's side died when I was just a toddler, but my grandma was honestly the one person that kept me going when I was a kid. She's the reason I became a cop."

"Tell me about her."

"Grandma Willow." Amanda said with a wistful smile on her face. "She was as southern as they come with the way she talked, and the way she cooked. But, she definitely stood out politically in an otherwise red neighborhood. She was the only one with Obama signs in her yard before the election in 2008, she even asked me to paint her wheelchair blue before Election Day. She would've loved you."

"Sounds like I would've loved her. When did she pass away?"

"Early in 2011."

"So not long before you moved to New York?"

"Mhm. Not a coincidence. Losing her, what happened with Patton…"

"You needed to get away."

"I used to go to her house after school and sit in her kitchen, watch her cook and listen to her stories. And she was such a great singer. It was the only place where I felt like I could relax."

"What about Kim, was she close to her, too?"

"Nah, Kim didn't like her. Which is weird because Kim usually likes everyone, she's too trusting. You know how she can be. I think mama got in her head, you know? She hated that I spent so much time there, thought grandma had a bad influence on me." Amanda blinked away the tears that had suddenly gathered in her eyes. "She told me to move in with her, several times. She knew what was going on at home. But even with everything, my dad... I felt like I needed to stay, if only to look after Kim. She was just a kid, you know?"

"So were you." Olivia said as she reached out and squeezed Amanda's shoulder lovingly.

"I guess." The detective shrugged with a sad smile on her face.

"Listen, your kids might not have a grandma Willow, but they have you, and they'll have me, and the squad. Always."

"I know."

Olivia smiled as she leaned in to kiss her. It was innocent at first but it didn't take long before things got heated and her hands were tangled in blonde locks. That first time a few weeks ago had definitely ignited a drive she had initially thought was lost to her forever. "Hormones." Amanda had snickered after a quickie in the shower one morning. But the captain was convinced that it had less to do with hormones and more to do with a certain blonde and the things she did to her body.

"God… Why haven't we done this for years?"

The captain opened her mouth to say something about being stupid, but the phone that suddenly vibrated against the table interrupted her.

"Ignore it." Amanda mumbled against her lips.

"You know I can't."

Olivia turned around and reached for her phone. She stared at the screen when she didn't recognize the number. "Benson."

Amanda watched as Olivia moved to get up from the couch and started to pace back and forth. She mouthed a "what?" towards the brunette but got no response. For two excruciatingly long minutes there was just a lot of "mhm" and "yes" and "I can do that."

"What? Tell me." The detective said with worry in her voice when Olivia finally hung up the phone. "Did something happen?"

"That was Patty." She sounded like someone had just knocked the wind out of her.

"Patty who?"

"Tucker's wife."

A/N: Things just got awkward real quick, huh?
