Finally, the next day, the squad had enough information to indict both Kevin and Mary. Mary would go to Family court, but Kevin was going to be tried as an adult due to the nature of his crime.
"I want to bring Ava Morgenstern in to prep her. I also want to call in Auggie Matthews, Lucas Aaron Minkus and KC Minkus," Carisi informed the SVU squad.
"They know the most about what happened," Olivia agreed.
"Agreed. Do you think Mary would testify against her brother for a plea deal?"
"I don't know. That girl is the most obnoxious self-centered person I have ever met,but I'm not sure offering her a deal would make her go against her own brother in court," Amanda replied.
"She ratted out her older brother in jail," Fin pointed out.
Amanda nodded.
"True."
"Wait…" Olivia said. "Did you say Lucas Aaron?"
"Uh, yeah," Carisi answered the Captain. "Why?"
"Noah is friends with a boy a couple of years younger than him that goes by Aaron," Olivia answered. "I didn't connect that it was the same kid."
"Wow. What are the odds that in the entire city of New York Noah goes to school with someone connected to one of our cases?" Amanda commented.
"So what's gonna happen with Mary?" Kat asked.
"Denise Brockmorton is her lawyer. We're going to family court. Kevin will be tried as an adult," Carisi explained.
"Good. He needs to pay," Fin firmly stated.
"He does. I hope Mary gets consequences that are appropriate for her part in this. She still has time to learn and get help before something worse happens," Olivia added.
The others nodded in agreement and Kat said, "I'll make the calls."
"Thanks, Kat," Carisi replied before heading back to his office.
After he was gone, Olivia turned to Kat.
"Amanda and I will make the calls, Kat. I need you and Fin to head to Attica and talk to Charlie. Do what you have to do to make him break."
"On it, Liv," Fin replied.
He and Kat grabbed their stuff and headed out.
Once they arrived, they spoke with the head warden who sent a guard to bring Charlie to them.
" Who are you? What do you want?" demanded the man rudely when he saw his visitors.
"I'm Sergeant Tutuola. This is Detective Tamin. We're from the Manhattan Special Victims Unit of the NYPD. We have a few questions for you about your brother and sister."
"I don't have a brother or sister," Charlie lies.
"Well, that's interesting because a kid named Kevin raped a twelve-year-old girl and a girl named Mary was his accomplice. We found out that they share your DNA," Kat informed him. "And your mother says you have a few sisters on her side."
Charlie Rolled his eyes. "That's impossible. You've never talked to me before. You couldn't possibly have my DNA to match with my siblings."
"Oh, so you admit they are your siblings," Fin jumped in.
Charlie suddenly realized his mistake and clammed up.
Kat stepped forward and got in the young man's face. "See, Charlie, you're in the lock-up, so your DNA is in our files."
Charlie's eyes widened nervously for a split second before he put on a poker face.
"That doesn't matter though. Ya know why? Cause your little sister ratted you out," Fin told him.
Charlie smirked. "Now I know you're bluffing. That little brat worships me. She would never dare to turn on me."
"Ya sure about that?" Kat slyly inquired.
"I'd bet money on it," Charlie responded snidely.
"Well then you'd lose. We just spoke with Mary before we came here and she told us the rape was your idea. You told her that was the only way to get revenge," Fin retorted.
"She's lying!" denied Charlie.
"She's got no reason to make that up," Fin pointed out.
"Well, I'm not taking the blame for this. They didn't have to listen to me! It was their choice.
"We're going to talk to the warden and recommend you lose all visitation privileges.
"What?! You've got no right to do that!" Charlie protested loudly.
"Actually, we do," Kat shot back before she and Fin called for the guard. As soon as the door was open, the two of them walked out of the prison as Charlie screamed threats at them.
A few minutes later, as he brooded in his cell, Charlie grew angrier and angrier until he shot up and slammed a fist into the wall.
"That little bitch! She'll pay for this! I'll get to her somehow and she'll be sorry she squealed!"
Meanwhile at Noah's school, the lower elementary kids were outside for recess.
"Hey, Noah! Wanna play tetherball with me?" A voice requested. Noah turned around and smiled.
"Sure, Aaron." The two boys ran over to the game which was luckily free.
They chatted as they batted the ball back and forth.
"Hey, Noah, your mom's a cop isn't she?" Aaron asked.
"Yeah. She's the captain of her whole unit," Noah replied proudly.
"Is her name Captain Benson?" Aaron inquired.
Noah's eyes widened as he gave the ball a hard whack. Aaron caught it easily and sent it sailing back to his friend.
"How do you know my mom?" The older boy demanded.
"I don't, but I heard my mom talking to my friend Auggie's mom about her. My friend Ava got hurt. I don't really understand what happened, but I think your mom was at the hospital talking to her with a blonde lady cop.
"That was my Aunt Amanda," Noah told him.
Aaron nodded. "Anyway, she talked to Ava and later, she talked to my mom. My mom said I gotta go to court and tell them what I saw before Ava got hurt. I gotta tell them that Kevin was mean to me and I saw him push Ava off the playground stuff."
Suddenly a realization hit Noah "Her name's not Mary is it?"
"Yeah, that's her. Why?"
"I think she was picking on Ava in the park the other day. I didn't know who she was then, but then I got my yearbook out that night and her picture was in it near Auggie's and Ava's," Noah replied. After a pause, he continued; "When Ava saw me at the park, she totally freaked. I didn't understand at the time but when I saw Auggie's picture, I figured it out."
Aaron held the ball still for a moment and looked at his friend. "Well, you do kinda look like Auggie, but younger." With that said, Aaron batted the ball towards Noah and the boys continued their game. They finished after a few minutes and walked back towards the building together.
On the way, Noah asked, "By the way, what does your mom do?"
"She sings at Topanga's my dad. He married my mom last year. My first daddy died when I was born."
"Oh. That's sad," Noah said softly.
"I didn't get to meet him," Aaron said, "but my mom said he really loved me, just like my new dad does."
"So what's Topanga's?" Noah questioned.
"It's a bakery and restaurant. Auggie's mom owns it. I can get all the chocolate donuts I want for free," Aaron informed him. "Well...if my mom's not watching."
"Cool! I wanna go there!" Noah stated.
"Maybe your mom could bring you sometime. I get to play drums with my parents sometimes, but I also love to sing."
"Me too!" Noah admitted enthusiastically.
"I'm in a band with Auggie called L.A. Survivors," Aaron told him.
"You're from L.A.?" Noah asked.
"No, I'm from Texas," he informed his older friend. "My first name's Lucas and Auggie has a disease and I was thrown out of a truck by a jerk. I could've died. That's why I have hearing aids."
"Oh, I get it," Noah said.
Just then, the bell rang.
"Bye, Noah," Aaron said as he ran to join his class.
"See ya later, Aaron," Noah called back before heading in the other direction.
A couple of days later (February 18th), the squad was preparing for Mary's trial in family court, which would be held the next day. The witnesses would include Auggie and Ava. While Olivia was in her office waiting to help prep the two adolescents, she received a phone call.
"Benson," she answered. She listened to the person on the other end, as frustration built up inside her.
After hanging up, she joined her detectives in the squad room.
"Liv, what's wrong?" Amanda asked, seeing the look on her captain's face.
Olivia let out a frustrated huff.
"That was Denise. Mary disappeared."
