Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of the thief and the girl who walked on fire. Enjoy the 1500-word chapter. I don't own RWBY, Monty Oum and Rooster Teeth do.
Cinder woke up at 11:50. She looked over to see Cye's Faunus ears flicker, he had heard her.
"Do you want to go over the plan?" Cye said as his blueish orbs narrowed. "We're leaving in 10 minutes… And if anything changes? I just want to point out that we WILL have to improvise." Cye said as he hummed and pulled his scarf over his face.
"Sneak into the mines, find one of the older airships and leave Solitas." Cinder said while tapping her fingers together.
"That's the basics." Cye said as he stood up and opened the door to go outside. "And not hurt any of the guards if possible, see if anything is wrong there or stay quiet." Cye said as he hummed and shook his head.
Cye left with Cinder following. The Dust mines didn't have much security. Jacques had been scaling back the security for profit… Something Cye knew Nicholas wouldn't do, nor would he pretty much enslave the Faunus.
"Why do you act like these people are innocent?" Cinder questioned which was greeted by a hum.
"Because not all of them are racist, elitist thugs on Jacque's payroll." Cye stated in response as the duo walked across Mantle. "And because we're not monsters. We are leaving Solitas for good, Cin. You're never going to see them again." Cye added as he cracked his knuckles.
"Cin?" Cinder questioned which was greeted by a raised eyebrow from Cye.
"What, I can call you something other than Cinder?" Cye asked with a hum. "You know this trip is going to be a while when we leave…. And if they catch us? We aren't going our names if they catch us." Cye stated while he shook his head with amusement.
"Cin…." Cinder said as Cye nodded and hummed. "And what do we do if we find someone who can kill us? I doubt all of their security is just people." Cinder asked while Cye nodded as he shook his head to the side.
"Then we run if we can." Cye stated as they reached a hill to look at the mine. "Keep your sword ready, but remember… It's ONLY a last resort. I'm not going to use my semblance until I have to… And I doubt your aura can stand up to a drawn-out fight if needed?" Cye asked which got a nod from Cinder.
"Then we sneak in… And there's 4 guards outside." Cye said as he shook his head. "2 more than when we checked… Hmmm." Cye muttered before he pulled his hand to his cloak.
"Do you want me to do something?" Cinder asked while Cye shook his head. "Then what do I do?" Cinder asked as Cye turned to look at her.
"Stick to the shadows and hitch a ride on those trucks." Cye said while gesturing to the trucks behind them. "I have my semblance. Remember, Jacques doesn't have them check the underside of the trucks. Meet inside the tunnel, ok?" Cye asked as Cinder nodded.
Both knew for a fact that Jacques didn't hire dozens of regular guards. That required paying them and Jacques only cared about his bottom pocket. He trusted automated security like the AK-130s there made by less… Skilled scientists then the head of Solita's researchers.
"Don't run off…" Cinder said, her voice a hush as Cye nodded and smiled at her.
"I won't, partners remember?" Cye questioned as he hummed before pulling up his scarf. "Sneak in, even if you don't want to? The more attention we have? The more security we have to fight through." Cye said before he activated his semblance.
Cinder watched Cye slowly vanish as his body faded out, she poked him as Cye hummed.
"It keeps me invisible, but it slowly drains my aura." Cye said as he turned to Cinder and hummed. "C'mon." Cye said before he slid down the hill.
While Cye was indeed invisible, Cinder could still see the footprints he left in the snow. Cye slowly crouched and moved past the row of guards. He was surprised why they had no scanners or such.
Then again? The guards probably just interrogated everyone who came in. Cye knew things were going to be different under Jacques when Nicolas gave up his company.
"Huh, what was that?" One of the guards asked as he swept his rifle across the area. "Hmm…" The guard said as Cye continued to pass by them.
Cye grabbed a nearby rock as Cinder neared the trucks. He tossed it to the side, the guards turned to see the noise in question. Cye watched the white suit, snowflake clad soldiers who moved from their posts towards it.
"If these were Nichola's guys? They'd never fall for something this… Stupid." Cye said while crouching as he clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth.
Cye watched Cinder grab onto the truck before slowly grabbing onto the lower part. Cye could only wonder if Cinder was going to be able to handle this work without hurting someone.
'Please don't make this a fight, Cin.' Cye thought to himself as he sighed and shook his head.
"I should have gotten us some way to talk… No, shouldn't overcomplicate things." Cye stated to himself as he sighed.
The cavernous opening was a good place for Cye to deactivate his semblance. He didn't want to strain it or it would break his aura… And if it got worse? It could cause him to pass out sooner rather than later.
"Ugh, this is going to be a long night." Cye muttered as he crossed his arms. He knew very well that the plan hinged on the fact that they snuck in.
To start a fight now? It meant starting the death throes of their idea. The only good idea they had and the only one that he knew could work.
Cye hummed as he waited for Cinder to sneak inside. He cracked his knuckles and thought about of things outside of Solitas. He thought of Mistral, of all the enjoyment he would have in the forests away from here.
All he had to do was escape, if this was just him? Maybe he could…
NO. He wouldn't abandon his friend, Cye wouldn't act that heartless. He wasn't a monster, not a Grimm… Not someone who threw his allies under the bus like one of the Atlesian elite… No, that described Jacques from what he heard.
"Cye?" Cye heard as he turned to look at Cinder before blinking.
"C'mon, we need to continue to get to the underground hanger sooner." Cye stated as he hummed and brushed off his snow-covered scarf. "This is going to be hard. There should be more guards in the pathways." Cye added while he turned to the tunnel behind him.
Cye knew the security would probably be more automated. There was probably was what Jacques wanted, it cost far less Lien and it also allowed safety standards to be lowered when it came down to it.
Cye clicked his fingers for a moment as he thought about what would happen. The sooner he and Cinder escaped? The sooner they could enjoy the fields of Mistral. The forests of the kingdom were looking all the greener when it came down to it.
Cye could only hum and keep his sword ready for the next fight that occurred. Cinder looked down at the sword that Cye was currently holding as he let out a hum.
"If we have to fight? Then we fight, just like I said." Cye said as he kept his hand on his sheath. "But just remember I also said we don't fight unless we have to." Cye pointed out before sighing mentally.
This was going to be a long night when it ended? Hopefully he'd be able to get through it without much of a fight… If any.
He doubted that considering how bad this was poised to turn out like. Something terrible would occur before the night was over.
"Cin, keep behind me and stick to the shadows." Cye said while he blinked. "It's going to be a bit before we get to the hanger." Cye said while keeping a hand on his weapon in case he needed to fight.
Cinder said nothing at the moment, trying to decide on what her next move would be.
Both teens knew this journey to freedom had only just begun… And neither wanted something bad to happen.
