Denial, Betrayal, Death
Inuyasha's group arrived at Kaede's village where Kikyo formally introduced her sister to Naruto. At one afternoon, Kikyo wandered around and noticed her lord standing near a lake.
"My lord, is something bothering you?" Kikyo asked, concerned for him.
"I have witnessed a terrible vision, Kikyo. It was repeated to me in exacting and precise detail twice. It is done this way because whoever sent this to me made this clear it will happen." Naruto answered then turned to look at her. "Inuyasha will go out as he usually does and discover that another village was attacked. He repelled the invaders -demons- by himself and instead of gratitude, the villagers spit on his aid and promptly threw him out. It gets worse as Naraku -disguised as a simple villagers- inflamed the populace's hate for Inuyasha by telling everyone that it was Inuyasha who attacked the village. They will crucify him and he will die shortly after."
Kikyo's eyes grew wide at this and felt worried. "I have seen this vision too, my Lord. Is there anything we can do to stop it?"
Naruto's next words were curt and disheartening. "We can't. Not even I, for all my influence and power, can stop Inuyasha's pending death. All we can do is to make sure it ends quickly and give him a proper burial."
He walked to Kikyo and ordered her. "You are to go to Inuyasha and tell him this. He trusts you so feel free to not leave anything out. As for the others, we'll tell them at a campfire..."
Kikyo sighed and answered. "As you wish, my Lord."
(With Inuyasha)
He was staying in the hut provided for his group by Kaede when Kikyo entered. She said quietly. "Inuyasha? I'd like to talk to you, in private."
Kagome narrowed her eyes in suspicion. "Whatever you tell him, you can tell to me."
Kikyo shook her head. "What I'm about to say to Inuyasha is to him and him alone." Before Kagome could protest, Kikyo added. "My Lord Naruto insists I bring this to Inuyasha."
They walked to a tree and Inuyasha asked. "So what is it you want to tell me?"
To Kikyo, she barely kept her stutter out as she said. "My lord and I have witnessed a vision. In it, you will be betrayed by the very people you've protected. Naraku will inflame the prejudice of the humans on you and you will die at a crucifix."
Inuyasha was stunned and held Kikyo by the shoulders. "This vision of yours?! It isn't real, isn't it!? Tell me, it isn't real!"
Kikyo shook her head. "It IS real. It was shown twice and whoever has sent it to my Lord has made it clear that it will happen."
Inuyasha slammed Kikyo into the bark of the tree and shouted. "No! No! No! I can't believe you! I don't believe you! I didn't come this far just to be die like that! What about my companions!?"
Kikyo merely looked at Inuyasha's feet as she quietly answered. "I do not know. Perhaps Lord Naruto will tell us at a campfire tonight."
Inuyasha let out a cry of pain as he was told by Kikyo of his impending execution. He repeatedly slammed Kikyo into the tree without thinking then he looked at her, tears in his eyes.
"I need time to come to terms with this...I need to go!" Inuyasha sputtered out and ran away to a nearby lake.
Kikyo looked at the figure of Inuyasha slowly disappearing as he ran to the lake. "I'm so sorry, Inuyasha."
She walked back to her lord with regret...
Inuyasha and his group joined Naruto and Kikyo at a campfire. They noticed a basket of bread and a cup of wine.
Naruto intoned. "Let this be our dinner tonight before tragedy strikes. My bread, made with my own human hands and unleavened. Wine, pure and sweet. Taken with the greatest of care not to add any chemicals to it."
He grabbed his basket of bread, took one, and passed it to Kikyo who took one who passed it to Inuyasha who also took one then to Kagome then to Sango then to Shippo then to Miroku who finally took the last and gave it to Naruto.
Next Naruto took a sip from the cup then passed it to Kikyo who dipped it then to Inuyasha then to Kagome, to Sango, to Shippo then finally to Miroku who finished it before returning it to Naruto.
"Now that we finished, I will tell you what will happen: Inuyasha here will be betrayed and he WILL be crucified and die. All of you will abandon him out of fear while I and Kikyo will stand by and watch."
Inuyasha paled at Naruto who was sounding like as if the god was signing his death sentence. Kagome shouted in defiance. "No, my Lord! Even if the rest of the group will abandon Inuyasha! I will never abandon him! Never!"
Kikyo looked at Naruto who nodded without looking at her. She told her reincarnation. "Kagome, before the rooster crows you will deny you even know Inuyasha. Not once but three times."
Kagome couldn't say anything but she hoped in her heart that would be true.
Inuyasha and his group didn't get an ounce of sleep the following night later.
The events did happen as Naruto had foretold. Inuyasha and his friends had saved a nearby village from demons. Instead of gratitude, the villagers promptly banished them and threw them out. Even worse, a villager (Naraku) has spread rumors that it was Inuyasha who massacred that village. Before the group knew it, an armed mob of villagers -led by Kaede to Kikyo's horror- demanded Inuyasha to be turned in to them.
Not wanting to risk his friends getting hurt, Inuyasha surrendered. As foretold, Miroku, Sango and Shippo ran away...
Kagome followed Inuyasha until they arrived at Kaede's village.
"You're Kikyo's reincarnation! That's why you're with that half demon!" One villager called out to Kagome.
Kagome instantly and defensively said. "No...I don't know him.."
"You're the one who often travels this demon! You are always going here for him!" Another- a female- shouted at her.
Kagome was starting to get irritated as she shouted. "No! No! I don't know him!"
"Yeah, you do! You are with a group that has a monk, a kid and a demon slayer! He was a part of that group!" A male villager said to her.
Kagome's temper went loose and shouted. "No! No! No! I don't know him! I REALLY do not know him! I swear!" She shouted insults and curses at nearby villagers then...
Cock-a-doodle-do!
The rooster's crow at dawn filled the air. Kagome looked at Inuyasha who was being escorted by armed villagers and saw his betrayed look of his face. It was only then that the horrifying revelation had happened...
She denied Inuyasha...three times...before the rooster crowed at dawn...
She did as was foretold and felt a terrible chill in her gut. She fell down to her knees and wept...after that she left the village, unable to face Inuyasha for betraying his trust.
As for Kaede, she intoned the bound Inuyasha that he is a servant of Naraku and sentenced him to death immediately via crucifixion. The villagers made Inuyasha carry a big cross and he barely made it to the top of a hill before he was nailed to it.
At the bottom of it, Kikyo and Naruto appeared within the crowd...
Naruto knew all too well that a cross would kill someone slowly no matter what little they can whilst nailed there. To put it simply, the person has to shift their weight while on the cross. Afterwards, he will suffocate and die...
Kikyo looked at Inuyasha's whimpers and choked cried and whispered to herself and to her lord. "No one should ever have to suffer such pain..."
She took out her bow and carefully nocked her arrow on it. She stood steady aim at Inuyasha's chest and fired...
It struck him straight in the heart causing him to bleed out, shortening his suffering.
With what little life he had, Inuyasha saw Naruto and Kikyo as they freed him from the cross. "Kikyo...please..I'm so sorry...please show me mercy..."
Kikyo softly replied. "I have." She closed Inuyasha's eyes, knowing that he died not soon after she said it.
Naruto secretly took Tenseiga and intoned. "May your father, Inutashio, receive you with open arms and find you a true home...requiescat in pace..."
Kikyo carried Inuyasha's body while Naruto led the way. The sun was starting to rise so nobody bothered them. They traveled a long way till they found the tomb of the great demon lord, Inutashio, Inuyasha's father.
Naruto and Kikyo prepared a grave for Inuyasha, no magics involved and buried Inuyasha with reverence. Naruto summoned a tombstone from ordinary stones and carved out Inuyasha's name and everything.
Naruto pulled out Tenseiga from his cloak and stabbed the earth of the covered up grave. He summoned four foxes to deliver the message to attend Inuyasha's funeral...
One day later, Sango arrived...kneeling with her sword out and wishing that he would be alive so that they can spar fight together.
The day after, Miroku and Shippo arrived to pay their respects to Inuyasha saying their newfound respect for the demon for surviving his childhood like he did.
However, Kagome failed to arrive for some reason. Naruto sent ten more messages via fox summons, each demanding an explanation and urging her to attend the funeral with the last message saying that the deadline for this saving grace would be in five days.
The deadline hit and Kagome was nowhere to be seen...
The time Kagome came back was a day and a half AFTER the funeral.
Turns out Kagome had tests back at the modern world and was lagging behind due to her depression following her denial and that was two days ago. The three days following that were wasted in pointless crying at her modern world and completely forgetting and missing the Fox summons Naruto had sent.
When she did arrive back to Inuyasha's grave (the location already being marked by a letter in the first message), she saw Sango, Miroku and Shippo paying their respects to Inuyasha and then leaving slowly. The only ones remaining are Naruto and Kikyo.
And their expressions were less than pleasant.
Naruto glared at Kagome with anger and disgust. He spat at her. "I gave you five days to attend Kagome and you didn't come. You should have stayed in your boring little world." And with that, he stormed off in fury.
Kagome flinched, he could not have hurt her more than he could've struck her. Then she looked at Kikyo who looked at her with a cold look. "My lord has passed judgment on you. While we both understand that you have duties back at your world, you should have been here and it's unforgivable that you weren't. This was Inuyasha we are talking here and he would've wanted you to come and you failed."
Kagome tried to say in her defense but it was weak. "You pointed out that I would deny Inuyasha..."
Kikyo wasn't impressed by it and countered. "It's true I said that and it did come to pass but I didn't say that you wouldn't attend his funeral." She sighed and continued. "Out of my former love for Inuyasha, I will help you for as long as my lord allows. If by some miracle Inuyasha is alive, beg him for forgiveness for I will not speak the words for you."
And with that, Kikyo left to follow Naruto, leaving Kagome to stand by Inuyasha's grace, wracked with guilt.
