8:00 am
"Good morning sunshine!"
Patton awoke with a start, finding that Remy was waving a cup of steaming coffee in his face. He shuddered at the potential spill of hot liquid all over the bed, and in particular, burning his face. At that thought, Patton quickly jumped out of bed.
"Hello... I'm sorry, I don't remember what your name is?"
"It's Remy. And you are?"
"Patton. It's nice to meet you, my soulmate's roommate!"
Remy chuckled as he went out of the bedroom and into the kitchen, where the smell of burnt toast hung in the air.
"I'm not actually his roommate," Remy said as he gingerly picked out the blackened squares from the poor toaster, "I'm just one of his friends in replacement of his roommate who moved out last week."
"Huh," Patton murmured. "I feel like I heard that story before."
As Patton sat down at the table, he wondered if it was déjà vu, considering that everything feels familiar to him.
Remy magestically twirled with a plate of toast in his hand, serving Patton with a jar of Crofters in addition.
"I don't know about you, but your soulmate really loves this brand of jam. Hopefully you do too, so you nerds can share that passion."
Patton's eyes lit up at the taste of the jam, then nodded excitedly in agreement. After swallowing, Patton asked, "so what is my soulmate's name?"
"Oh, it's Logan."
Patton's toast clattered onto the plate.
9:00am
Logan had forgotten the noise Roman alone could make, and now there was Virgil as a catalyst.
He woke with a start at the sound of a crash in the kitchen, followed by shouts regarding 'carelessness' and 'cookies'.
Mumbling his discontent, Logan fumbled for the cat-themed alarm clock next to his head.
"9 am?!" Logan whispered in disbelief. Usually he would be up by 7 am! It must be Patton's body who is accustomed to this later schedule.
Patton... his soulmate. Logan blinked at the thought, just as he did while lying awake last night. It was even more unbelievable to find that he and Roman have soulmates who were also roommates. Not to mention that he and Patton were, just like Roman and Virgil, polar opposites.
Logan sighed, wondering how Patton would find Remy's caretaking treatment this morning.
He got up, swept the crinkles out of Patton's pyjamas before exiting the bedroom. Instantly, the noise volume doubled.
"LOOK WHAT YOU'VE DONE, THE JAR IS SHATTERED."
"I DIDN'T KNOW IT COULD SHATTER, IT DIDN'T BREAK YESTERDAY."
"HOW COULD YOU- IT'S GLASS ROMAN."
"REALLY THICK GLASS THOUGH."
"Good morning all, could you refrain from shouting? I'd imagine that it's not pleasant for the neighbours."
"Oh, morning Lo," Roman cheerily waved back to Logan, "It's pretty funny to hear Patton speak so formally, right Virge?"
Virgil glared at Roman some more before turning to Logan with a heavy sigh.
"Logan, could you help clean up this mess? In particular, Roman's bloody feet?"
"Since when did you get british- Oh. I'm actually bleeding."
Virgil eye-rolled as he grabbed the broom and dust-pan from the storage cupboard. The glass clinked as he swept the remnants of the jar swiftly.
Logan took the antiseptic and the bandages from the top shelf of the same storage cupboard to treat Roman on the couch. Roman fumed on the couch, not in pain for his poor feet, but for the poor cookies that lay wasted on the floor.
Virgil shook his head as he swept up the cookie crumbs with the rest of the glass.
10:00 am
"So Logan's my soulmate," Patton pondered aloud.
'Yep! Do you like the match?'
'I mean, I guess! I quite liked Logan when I 'met' him over the phone last week, you know, when Roman and Virgil also first met..."
"Oh yeah, that was hilarious. You know, I've never met a more unenergised Roman before that Switchover."
"Well, I've never met a more energised Virgil either. It was strange, but nice to see, considering Virgil rarely smiles... But that was in the past, Roman forces him to scowl and laugh a lot more these days."
"I can imagine," Remy chuckled, "And similarly, it's rather refreshing to see Logan much more upbeat and emotionally-expressive, even though it's actually you in his body."
"Yeah..." Patton frowned, "Does he not usually act like... me?"
"Well, he does express his joy in a different manner. Preferably in formal language," Remy snorted.
"Honestly it's endearing to me," Patton smiled, "being soft-spoken with clarity like that, I do appreciate it."
"You do you boo, I always love the noisy ones."
"Sure you do," laughed Patton.
11:00 am
"Say... infinitesimal."
"I dislike you greatly."
Virgil wiped the beads of tears from the corner of his eye as he silently died of laughter, the camera shaking in his hands.
Roman similarly dissolved on the table, wheezing at the disgruntlement present on Patton's face.
"Oh man... I could've never imagined how funny Logan and Patton's fusion could be!"
"Thank the universe for this 24-hour-long blessing!"
"You two are having way too much fun at my expense," Logan muttered, "time to switch it up."
To Virgil's astonishment, he found Logan facing the camera down upon him with a slightly evil look that Patton would never accomplish.
"Virgil, Roman, let's record the result of your first week together as soulmates."
Roman sat up wearily, reminded of the nightmare of lab journaling with Logan.
"Lo...please...not now..."
"Actually, this might be good for reflection," Virgil smirked, "Let's begin by listing all the things Roman has destroyed or stolen from me and Patton's peaceful abode..."
Roman quickly waved his hands in denial whilst Virgil began a loud rendition of his list. Logan found himself giggling at the recorded sight before him, with the amusing harmonising Roman was doing alongside Virgil's yelling.
12:00 pm
A default ringtone rang aloud from Logan's room.
Remy danced to the beat for a few seconds before picking up the phone, "Hello~ Remy speaking!"
"Remy! It's Ro here, and I do believe that Patton currently resides Logan's body?"
"He sure does, and Logan's on your side now, right?"
"Yeah- Hey, Logan! Virgil! Come talk to Remy and Pat!"
Remy plopped back on the couch, aligning himself so that both Patton and him could see the screen.
On said screen, a blurry visual of red and purple could be seen rolling around on the floor before Patton- no, Logan picked up the phone.
"They're fighting over the right to hold the phone," Logan sighed, which sounded very strange in Patton's voice.
Another crash could be heard off-screen, causing Logan to additionally mutter, "Children."
"Hey Lo, I heard that!" Roman barged into the centre of the screen, having grabbed the phone off Logan.
Virgil slipped into the space behind Roman, balancing his head ontop of Roman's in a way that guaranteed a headache from the pressure point under Virgil's chin.
Roman visibly grumbled while Logan rolled Patton's eyes - another strange act to see Patton perform.
Patton watched with intrigue as he observed his soulmate's behaviour in his own body, back at home. Rigid, perhaps nervous. He offered Logan a soft smile of reassurance.
With more subtlety, Logan observed his own body being illuminated with visible happiness and the joy radiating from his soulmate's soul. 'A strange affair', Logan thought, 'But not necessarily unenjoyable.'
"Padre, so good to see you! How're you feeling?"
"Hiya Ro! And Virge! And.. Logan," Patton chuckled nervously, "I'm alright actually, how are you guys?"
Virgil butted his head closer, earning a yelp of pain from Roman as he said, "Roman broke the cookie jar and now our entire stock is gone, including the strongest jar on the shelf."
Roman gasped, "Way to tattle tale!"
Virgil stuck out his tongue in response. Logan passively watched the banter from the side.
Patton and Remy giggled as the drama unfolded before their eyes, just like an episode of The Office.
"Anyway... it seems as if nothing else has happened," Virgil commented upon the calm-looking Logan and Remy.
"On the contrary, Patton and I have bonded so much this morning! By the way, Logan, we kinda ate through another jar of Crofters. Sorry!"
Logan made Patton's eye twitch in annoyance, but in reality, he was secretly relieved that Patton equally enjoyed Crofters.
Patton grinned as he saw through Logan's annoyance to the happiness underneath, since you'd be accustomed to the way your face twists in response to certain emotions. With Patton, the muscles to smile were always working. And they shifted up too easily at the note of Logan's relief.
