Wolfie: I still do not own anything related to Night at the Museum. Kind of wish I did though cause then I would've made at least a 4th movie, but sadly they they ended with three. Another sad thing is we will never get to see Robin Williams as Teddy Roosevelt ever again, may he rest in peace. Nevertheless I shall continue to work with what I've got and maybe come up with something to filling for the 4th movie we will never get. Now this chapter may end up being even shorter than the last one and I apologize for that because I just don't want to cram two things into one chapter unless I have to. Now please read and review this.

Bold italic= speaking in Egyptian

Italic= speaking in Hunnish

Underlined= letters/text messages

Bold= someone on the other end of a phone call

Certain words in bold= talking in a deeper voice or putting more emphasis on those words

As always there will be a section at the bottom of the chapter for any and all pronunciations if they are necessary and if I can find them. If not then there will be a message in that section stating that there are no pronunciations needed for this chapter.

Chapter 8: Getting fired?

A few hours later as the museum was just starting to open up for the day Nicky and two boys who looked to be on their way to school entered the museum. Nicky had come here to cash in on his dad's promise to show him around the museum and had brought two of his friends with him. After all he thought that if his dad was going to give them a tour then maybe his dad was going to show them some cool stuff that might not be on display. Hence why he wanted to come now despite the fact that if they did get a tour it would cause them to be late for their morning classes.

"No one comes here anymore. Besides, I took this tour in second grade, Daley." One boy said clearly not interested in taking a museum tour.

"I'm telling you, my dad's gonna hook us up." Nicky replied as he looked around to see if he could spot his dad.

"Mr. Daley." Dr. McPhee called out as he walked over to Larry who stopped when he was about to run into the clearly unhappy doctor.

"Yeah?" Larry asked curiously as he looked at his upset boss.

"Foam." Dr. McPhee stated as he pointed the Neanderthal exhibit, clearly not noticing one Neanderthal is missing.

"Yes, I know." Larry confirmed that he did know about the foam.

"In the Neanderthal display." Dr. McPhee uttered in disbelief at the dirty exhibit.

"I know, I know. There was an incident last night with the fire extinguisher. I was literally just on my way to go clean it up." Larry explained giving Dr. McPhee the best excuse that he could come up with on such short notice.

"OK, don't bother. You're fired." Dr. McPhee announced before turning and walking away from Larry.

"I don't think we're getting a tour today." One boy observed as he glanced over to at Nicky who was looking at his dad with a crushed look on his face.

"Your dad just got canned, dude." The other boy from before stated bluntly as they both turned and left.

"Excuse me. Mr. McPhee." Larry suddenly called out as he followed after Dr. McPhee, having not noticed Nicky who looked at him once more before leaving as well. "Excuse me, Mr. McPhee. Can I talk to you about this, please? Sir?" He asked as he caught up with the retreating doctor.

"What?" Dr. McPhee snapped as he turned his head slightly in order to look at Larry out of his peripheral vision.

"I know I screwed up, but I think I finally understand how to do this job." Larry said as he followed Dr. McPhee into the little hallway/sitting room the held the doorway to his office.

"You obviously don't. That's the point." Dr. McPhee said though that really made no sense at all.

"Well, no, I didn't. but now I do. Really, Mr. McPhee, if you just give me." Larry started to give an argument as to why he shouldn't be fired.

"Doctor." Dr. McPhee corrected in response to the fact that Larry kept calling him Mr. McPhee instead of Dr. McPhee as he was now looking at Larry.

"Dr. McPhee, just... Can you please give me one more night?" Larry asked as he now finally cared about this job much more than he did last night.

"One more night." Dr. McPhee finally agreed as he held up on finger to show he meant only one night.

"OK, thank you." Larry said relieved that Dr. McPhee was giving him another chance to do this job right.

"And if anything is at tiniest... after your shift, whew." Dr. McPhee said as he imitates an explosion, once again not making any sense to anyone but himself. "Because..." He continued before trailing off as he was shaking his head causing Larry to shake his head as well.

"Got it." Larry said because at this point it just seemed better for him to agree with what Dr. McPhee was saying.

"OK?" Dr. McPhee asked because to him saying got it was not enough to confirm that Larry understood what he was telling him.

"OK." Larry said hopefully giving Dr. McPhee enough confirmation that he understood.

"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice..." Dr. McPhee spoke as he trailed off, getting the saying completely wrong.

"Shame on me." Larry supplied Dr. McPhee with an answer since the doctor seemed to be struggling to finish the saying.

"Huh?" Dr. McPhee asked in question as he didn't know what Larry meant by that.

"Fool me... shame on me." Larry tried to explain before just giving up and agreed that it was shame on him.

"You fool me first, yeah." Dr. McPhee said since that seemed correct to him.

"Got it." Larry said as he was just waiting for Dr. McPhee to be done now.

"Take it or leave it." Dr. McPhee stated with a small shrug since these were his conditions towards not firing Larry.

"OK. Thank you." Larry said as he backed out of the doorway and left.

Later that day after getting an extremely cryptic phone call from Erica about needing to come over Larry headed towards the all to familiar apartment. Knocking on the dark brownish red door it opened to reveal the face of his ex-wife whom opened the door all of the way. Just judging by the look on her face he could just tell that something was wrong which caused him major concern. Was Nicky sick or hurt and he wouldn't be able to come stay with him or was there something going on with Erica that she doesn't want to affect Nicky. Now she maybe his ex-wife but that doesn't mean he can't still care about her every now and then, sure he can't care for her in the husband sort of way but he can still care about her in the concerned friend type of way.

"Hey." Larry and Erica greeted at the same time as they looked at one another.

"What's wrong?" Larry asked curiously since it's not everyday that he gets a random call from his ex-wife.

"Maybe you should ask Nicky." Erica said as she motioned with her head for Larry to go to their sons room.

Doing as Erica said Larry came inside the apartment and walked down a short hallway to the open door of his sons bedroom as he looked inside. Sitting on the wooden bench block that was build into the window sill was Nicky who didn't quite notice him yet. The ten year old was sitting hunched over reading a book that was on his lap, seeming to be upset about something. This caused Larry to be even more concerned as he wondered what had happened that had caused his son to seem so sad.

"Hey, buddy. What's going on?" Larry asked as came into the room, stopping infront of the door with one hand on the door frame.

"You got fired." Nicky said not even looking up from his book as he says that.

"What are you talking about? I didn't get fired." Larry reassured as he walked over to his son.

"I came to the museum this morning. I saw your boss yelling at you." Nicky explained as he finally looked up from his book just in time to see his dad sit next to him.

"Why didn't you tell me?" Larry questioned feeling bad that his son felt like he needed to not talk to him when he's upset. "No, everything's fine. I just... We just had a little misunderstanding." He explained hoping to reassure Nicky that he didn't loose his job.

"Why?" Nicky asked because what could've possibly happened to make his dad have a misunderstanding with his boss?

"It's hard to explain. It's... I mean, you wouldn't bel..." Larry stumbled over his words trying to find a good explanation or excuse to give Nicky before getting an idea. "You know what? Let me show you." He suddenly suggested which caused his soon to look at him in confusion.

"Show me what?" Nicky pressed for an answer since he was curious about what his dad wanted to show him.

"Come to work with me tonight." Larry said with a smile knowing that his son would love the real reason behind why he almost got fired.

"Larry, can, um... Can I talk to you for a second?" Erica asked from the doorway causing Larry to leave the room and go to a place in the apartment where Nicky is out of earshot.

"Am I in trouble?" Larry asked because Erica told him to talk to Nicky yet here she is pulling him away like he said something wrong.

"Larry, what are you doing?" Erica asked with a small sigh not even answering Larry's own question.

"I just want to show him what I do, that's all." Larry said as he saw no harm in taking Nicky with him to work for one night.

"I love that. I love that you want to share that with him, but I gotta tell you, I don't think Nicky has any room in his heart for anymore disappointment." Erica said because seeing Nicky be so sad and disappointed when he came home honestly broke her heart.

"He won't be disappointed." Larry reassured with a smile because he knew Nicky would be excited, he could feel it in his gut.

With that Erica let Larry go back to Nicky who was waiting to see if he was actually getting to go with his dad to work tonight or not. When he was told by his dad to get his coat and shoes on that was enough to confirm that he was going to get to go to work with his dad. Putting his book down Nicky retrieved his coat and shoes, saying bye to his mom as him and his dad left once he put his shoes and coat on. It didn't take long till they were walking up the steps to the museum with Larry explaining to Nicky that he would have to wait down in the security office till everyone left for the day. Nicky agreed of course since he knew that his dad still has to do his job first before they can even begin to hang out and talk about his job as a night guard.

End of chapter

Wolfie: Again I am sorry that this chapter is so short and I know I gave this excuse before but I just want to make sure that my chapter's aren't full of clutter or long paragraphs. Cause I did get some feed back on my book His Daughter?! that said that they skipped over all of the paragraphs I had done because they didn't like straining their eyes to read it all. So yeah I took that to heart and like to think that I have improved when it comes to how I write fan-fiction. Anyways pleased read and review this.
